Apologies for the x-posting that meant there's no thread link in the last thread Blush.
I'll start this one and hope people find it.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
roofio87 · 26/11/2013 10:46

oh I'd be up for a Manchester meet. post xmas would be better for me, december is going to be busy and expensive!!!

flyer baby has first vaccinations at 8 weeks. here it is the 5 in 1 diptheria, tetanus, whooping cough, polio and hib b. the pneumococcal (to do with meningitis) and rotavirus. has ur hv not mentioned them?

roofio87 · 26/11/2013 10:47

bcg is only given to babies who are likely to come Into contact with someone who has tb.

legallyblond · 26/11/2013 10:53

Flyer - first jabs are at 8 weeks (9 at latest) and here you need to book in at your GP surgery. It's in the red book when all the diff jabs are right up to teenager and it seems they expect the parent to keep track and book in. Hmm Not so easy!

Thanks for the nap advice Jelly. They don't have a mob

Pink - the twins are 11 weeks today. Tbh, I am really happy with their overall day/night pattern. They think nighttime begins at 7/8pm and are fully asleep by 9ish. They wake twice for feeds in the night but they are half asleep, feed for ten mins and immediately settle back into their cot (provided I've kept them upright for another ten mins) and don't wake up until 7 (basically when DD wakes then cos the light goes on etc). Much much more alert in the day. I think I'll theme them up to the cot for a nap a day if convenient, but I don't plan on letting them cry.....

legallyblond · 26/11/2013 10:54

Also - they still share a cot, sleeping side by side...

OrangeBlossom2 · 26/11/2013 11:01

Love the image of the twins sharing a cot,I bet they look so cute (when asleep at least).

You only. Need bcg in high risk areas like inner city london or if you are likely to visit family in high risk areas eg if have family in Africa. Not just short holidays. Health visitor said I don't need it.

xuntitledx · 26/11/2013 11:29

flyer - we got the BCG appointment sent directly to us and he had it at 2 weeks.

Haven't received anything for 6 week checks or any other vaccinations yet. Not sure if I have to book in for these or if it will be done for me!

Flyer747 · 26/11/2013 11:34

Having issues with A latching on my right breast the nipple seems to have gone small and she keeps losing her latch any ideas what I can do?

OrangeBlossom2 · 26/11/2013 11:44

Flyer, this happens to me too, dry off nipple and her face of milk/nipple cream/saliva, pinch and squeeze nipple to draw out, pump to make the breast less engorged, get the milk flowing and draw out the nipple which all make easier to latch on to, try the other side and come back to it later, is nipple small because you are too warm? Hold A upright and see if she needs to burp/poo/vomit and that's why she is not latching, shape breast to fit into mouth easier.

OrangeBlossom2 · 26/11/2013 11:46

I am going to make handprint Christmas ornaments

here

Flyer747 · 26/11/2013 11:47

Thanks orange I keep just shoving her on the other breast as it's just easier. I will try those tips, failing that I shall go and stand outside in the cold with my boobs out! I could pump to help draw the nipple out.

Soupqueen · 26/11/2013 11:49

Checking in, thanks for new thread.

I'm a dufus. Just back from 6 week check and forgot to ask any of the questions I had. Every single one!

I'm not really looking forward to Christmas at all. I usually love it but can't see where I'm going to find the time or energy to buy gifts, put up a tree etc. oddly, I had way more time when working in a really demanding job.

OrangeBlossom2 · 26/11/2013 11:52

Oh no soup, can you make another appointment if you are concerned? I write down questions now as I always get flustered and feel rushed.
Online shopping is the way forward!

claphammama · 26/11/2013 11:55

Checking in

xuntitledx · 26/11/2013 12:15

Second online shopping - I've managed to do all of our shopping whilst breastfeeding.

Flyer747 · 26/11/2013 12:35

Currently going through 2 outfits a day due to nappy leaking poo either out the sides or up the back. Using pampers size 2 are they too big? She's 10lb10 and I thought the size 1 were too tight round her chubby thighs, I dressed her in a lovely Ralph Lauren dress and leggings earlier on to have the leggings covered in bright yellow poo. I check the frills and they are all pulled out.

Slippysnow · 26/11/2013 12:43

Checking in.

I posted this on bf page but if anyone here can answer it would be great :)
I've read about pumping at numerous stages during the day and topping up a the milk storage pot across the day.

  • so what do you do with the pump? I can't imagine people would sterilise it after each use, I realise people pump at work and surely you wouldn't have the facilities to do this. Also where do you store your pump when it's not in use.

I also have an ebm question. Can you keep the milk for a day or two in the fridge before freezing it or do you have to freeze ASAP after expressing.

Do people's personal experiences go against guidelines.

Thanks!

BowlFullofJelly · 26/11/2013 12:49

Flyer I always go for the biggest nappies possible, I get far more leakage with smaller ones. Dd is 11 3 and has been in size 3 pampers for a few weeks. I tend to move up to the bigger size as soon as they hit the minimum weight.

Slippy I always wash and sterilse after expressing each time, and also freeze asap after pumping, and throw away milk if its been in the fridge more than 24 hours. But its mainly just coz I am funny about milk in general.

OrangeBlossom2 · 26/11/2013 12:50

Slippy I keep the pump in the fridge if I remember then don't have sterilise it. I figured that if milk is ok in the fridge for a week then that is ok for most of the day.
Over night I just add to it a couple of times and leave it on my bedside table but use that milk first thing in the morning.
We used to sterilise between every use when DH was on paternity leave but don't now.

Flyer maybe the nappies are actually too small and she needs size 3? We have started to have more explosions in size 1 and think it is time to move up.

Haylebop12 · 26/11/2013 12:52

pink I'm not far from Birmingham. About half an hour. I thought Manchester would include lots more mummies and its a short train ride away. After Xmas sounds good :-)

Flyer, at last weigh in (7 weeks) Isaac was 10lb 11. We are using size 3 but tbh he doesn't poop 24/7 anymore so I can catch it quick when he does.

GTbaby · 26/11/2013 12:52

Thanks for BCG clean up tips. #1 didn't scab so had no idea. He was unsettled all night, it was prob hurting. But now it's popped so hopefully the pressure has eased.

Weljel of Manchester meet.

Trying to get lo sleeping in cot during day. As I'm rubbish at transferring him at night. Just tiered and sleep takes over.

Soupqueen · 26/11/2013 12:52

I can't really help, slippy, but glad you asked as I was wondering the same. One thing though, my pump (Lansinoh) just require washed in hot soapy water between uses and the midwife at the breastfeeding clinic also said its not necessary to sterilise them.

I didn't have any major questions for the dr, not enough to justify an appointment, I'll more likely use the collective wisdom of mumsnet instead!

roxvox · 26/11/2013 12:54

rachel no problem - I am glad it helped someone because it didn't work for us!

bowlfull I am stupidly excited about Christmas. I need to remember that it will be a day like any other for A really, and she'll still want to feed regularly and have poosplosions etc! I've bought her a couple of bits (a Lamaze horsey and some Lamaze wrist/ankle rattles that are meant to help them to co-ordinate). Family members want to buy her stuff but we have so many 3-6 month clothes from birth gifts that I have requested no clothes (knowing full well that we will still get loads because the grannies can't help themselves!) ... But I have asked them to buy stuff for when she's a few months older. Ie a Jumperoo, a Bumbo, munchkin weaning nets, full sleeve bibs, teething stuff etc.

flyer weirdly my left boob is the one that I think produces the most milk. And I think that was the problem last night. I think she wanted to comfort suck really, but the letdown on my left boob is often quite forceful (particularly when it's as full as it was last night!) so she really didn't want to feed off of it. She eventually did take some from it which released the pressure, and then I used that one for the 5am feed and she was fine with it. Still pulled off during the letdown and sprayed milk everywhere, but then latched on again once it was done.

flyer when the flat nipple thing happens to me, I let A get it a bit wet and then blow on it to make it stick out some more. Then I flatten my boob a bit so it is easier for her to get her mouth over, and even once she's latched I will hold it there for a bit until she's properly settled into feeding. Seems to help!

legally I wish we could see some piccies of your two!

slippy I am yet to express and store any milk, but I did ask the HV these questions the other day. She said that ebm is fine out in the open for a couple of hours (although NHS guidelines say up to 6 hours), then in the fridge for up to 4 days, then freezer for up to 3 months.

I think my mission to soften my stools (can't believe I am writing this) is working. I am following each meal (since yesterday this is) with 5 dried prunes. Throughout the day I am drinking water until I feel like I could choke on it, and eating regular handfuls of dried apricots. Plus Fybogel twice a day, as well as my usual diet (which I think is pretty healthy and contains quite a lot of fibre as it is). I've been to the loo this morning (in case you wanted to know) and, whilst still painful, it was certainly a fair bit easier to go.

I am currently making a Truprint calendar filled with pictures of A for my mum for Christmas (only grandchild so she's a bit obsessed). They are half price at the minute so am getting a decent sized personalised calendar for £9 which I think is pretty reasonable!

Haylebop12 · 26/11/2013 12:54

slippy i will store milk in fridge for 48 hours. I don't generally pump more then needed so don't freeze but would aim to freeze within 24 hours. I sterilise after every second use, other then that just use hot soapy water.

Shootingstarsandcomets · 26/11/2013 13:20

I'd like to do a Manchester meet up. Although have failed to get to the Manchester markets today........
We shall try again next week.
We could do coffee/early lunch maybe? Spinningfields area has loads of places to eat. I went to one called Artisan in the summer and it was nice.

PseudoBadger · 26/11/2013 13:24

For leaks - also make sure that the outer frills are out, but that the inner 'membrane' is in....
