Oh Oi I saw in Tesco the other day that they have some fab Mr Tumble jigsaw things where you have to dress Mr Tumble up in different outfits, made me think of Boi

ChipAndSpud · 13/11/2013 14:11

Last year I made Nigella's clementine cake for DS, I think I'll do the same again this year as I'm not much of a baker and this recipe works! I would like to make some icing to decorate it, but I've never made icing before...sure I'll find a video on YouTube though!

QueenofClean · 13/11/2013 14:16

I've got Xmas tunes chart music on and have GF & DF brownies in the oven and have got a new cupcake recipe going in afterwards - practicing in time for xmas :)

Got to make cakes for CIN day at school on Friday too. So will be making some CIN themed cuppies too.

Very peaceful and productive day here without the girls around lol

Aethelfleda · 13/11/2013 14:47

Chip, if you want to do home icing check out a big Sainsbury's , they sell both ready-to-roll icing , and the ultimate in laziness pre-rolled icing sheets (they are round).
And then put your own decorations on top. They also sell Dr Oetzer assorted coloured icing, only a pound or two and it's just like play-doh!

oi I will second the for DH BUT I am hoping you checked out the ingredients with your GP to ensure it's not toxic for him? Decongestants and paracetamol you have to be very careful with regarding dose. A quick internet search for phenylephrine brings up this so it is used in The UsA for kids over six, but not recommended under that. You need to make sure this can't happen again even if DH is tired/half awake: maybe have a seperate shelf for Boi's medicines so they can't get mixed up?
Anyway hope he's ok now and do seek proper medical advice from your GP if you need to check the amounts, your dr would much rather you checked.

Oh no for the leaks hinky and hop! Why do we have a thread-wide leak? (My sink leaked last week but touch wood is now fixed....)

Washing machine coming Soon!!! ( just as well as am sick of handwashing already!) I confess I cheated and dipped into savings, thank goodness we still have a bit left. Always hate using them though, cos I can't see us building them back up for a while. Such is life!

HopAlongOnItsOnlyChristmas · 13/11/2013 15:07

After ripping down the ceiling, DH could not find a leak... I'm just... I can't deal with this today. He's putting the ceiling back up and I'm just going to stick my fingers in my ears and pretend it isn't happening.

I'm putting together 9 display boards for a project launch we're having at the end of the month. That is a lot of printing, cutting, laminating, cutting again and sticking. The scissors are hurting my fingers. Seriously, I thought I was meant to be a grown up!

thekatsatonthematt · 13/11/2013 23:09

Hop is I was anywhere near you I'd have been at your side in split second. I LOVE stuff like that and only ever complete work related stuff, I have half completed craft projects everywhere

We have the plumber coming again tomorrow. Not for a leak, for radiators that won't heat up Confused

hinkyhonk · 14/11/2013 07:21

We've now got more leaks and damp patches but plumber not due until tomorrow. Hopefully he can fit us in today at vast expense otherwise no hearing until tomorrow and I've got a conference (that I've organised) to go to so I can't even nag them all day double argh

hinkyhonk · 14/11/2013 07:22

Kat have you tried bleeding the radiators?

Figgygal · 14/11/2013 07:40

Hinky that sounds really crap we had a mad panic the other day our bathroom ceiling was dripping water right under the water tank......major freak out from DH up in loft no sign of anything turned out the shower head had a hole and was shooting a single spray of water right up into the ceiling Grin.

QueenofClean · 14/11/2013 07:56

Sorry to hear some of you are having nightmare house ishoos. Hopefully they'll get sorted soon.

DH said he'll try and get me Robbie Williams tickets for his Swing your next yr Grin

Made some yummy GF & DF Chocolate brownies and made some mince pie cuppys just need to ice with brandy buttercream.

Still need to make CIN cuppys which I'll do this afternoon.

Faerieinatoadstool · 14/11/2013 09:00

I saw a recipe for mince pie palmiers (?) that I might try for xmas and do something like a spiced apple cake instead of xmas pud.
Don't know what ds's birthday cake is going to be though but I've got a month to try out some ideas if anyone has any?

HopAlongOnItsOnlyChristmas · 14/11/2013 16:06

Holy bejezuz it is so cold at work. I can barely feel my hands.

'posed to be sunny tomorrow so taking DS to the park with some friends and their minions to throw bread at the ducks and investigate the ice rink.

Why are their so many leaky houses on this thread? DH put plaster board up and I remembered why I don't let him do decorating. It's got to remain uncovered until the 6 inches of filler her put up too has dried. Then wallpaper and paint. Fucking joy. I'm choosing not to look at it.

NorthernChinchilla · 14/11/2013 17:30

Oooh, ooh, us too, one of the bedroom radiators still isn't working, and should have a plumber coming round, again, soon. Rest of the house is fairly snug though.

I know what you mean about the skinny fit toddler stuff figgy, it's crazy! Some of DS's trousers were apparently slim fit, and we could barely stuff his chubbtastic thighs down them. If the tops are too small they get overhang and look ridiculous... We'll be moving into size 3-4 very shortly for this reason, he fills his 2-3 stuff completely.

Ta for the advice hinky, you're bob on. I hadn't got a clue but our solicitor remembered it, and so I was sent incognito to call the council- he got there first though Grin. As it stands, we've heard the bloke at the top of the chain (there's only four of us) has had his survey done and mortgage confirmed on the back of it on Monday, so we're actually ready to go Shock.
I called the EA to brief them to hurry along the vendors' solicitors- ie stop bloody lying, and get an indemnity in place- and for the EA to speak to the vendors themselves to get them to give us a report on what work was undertaken. Hopefully we can get this sorted relatively quickly and can actually get some dates in the diary.

Naturally, DP starts his new job on the 9th, we have DS' birthday on the 12th, and let's not mention my work, but we will MOVE!

Why did the ceiling have to come down hop, dare I ask...? But I'd be feeling murderous too. And bloody Agas eat money, is there any way it can be replaced, and/or the trees can be sorted after Xmas?

Have worked at home today as I had dentist's this morning, so am off to get my little nutcase darling from nursery Smile

hinkyhonk · 14/11/2013 18:23

Trees are actually potentially dangerous so something needs to be done with something but some can be left for a bit. Aga is going is the new year as it's eating oil but that means new kitchen too I hope but budget shrinking with every new issue. My ceiling still intact but we've got plumbers coming tomorrow so not too sure how long we'll last before holes start appearing argh!

Poor you hop - did you say you found the source of the leak at least. Ours is buggered gah!

mopsytop · 14/11/2013 19:15

Yeah our hot water was buggered for weeks (lucky we've an electric shower). Finally had it fixed but there's now a big hole in our newly (well, over the summer) plastered and painted sitting room wall. Gah.

HopAlongOnItsOnlyChristmas · 14/11/2013 19:37

Nope. No leak could be found. Have come home to findDH has cleaned and tidied the whole house, so all is forgiven. Owning a bloody house is shit. No one told me being a grown up would be like this.

HopAlongOnItsOnlyChristmas · 14/11/2013 19:38

Oh, reason ceiling had to conet down ia because we could find the leak by going through the floor upstairs. Now we know why. Not a bloody clue where the damp patch came from.

mopsytop · 14/11/2013 19:46

Yeah you're so right about house ownership hop! So much hassle and so bloody expensive if something goes wrong.

hinkyhonk · 14/11/2013 21:13

Oh lord the leak is now massive and pouring through the ceiling shit it

SevenOnwardsAndUpwards · 14/11/2013 21:27

Renting is just throwing money away though, at least with owning you have something to show for it. We pay around £650 per month mortgage for our 4 bedroom with separate dining room and what was a garage, though it was pretty rank when we bought it, average 3 bed rental round here is £600-£700pcm.

oi is your MIL normally controlling in any way? Don't think you've mentioned her doing anything like this before.

Skinny pjs are good, for my skinny DCs anyway. DS was lanky, if I bought ones the right length the bottoms used to fall down, next snuggle fit were the only ones he could wear. Thankfully he's now a bit more in proportion so I can buy asda or tesco for quarter of the price!

SevenOnwardsAndUpwards · 14/11/2013 21:29

X-post hinky that's bad news. Can I offer a virtual to help?

mopsytop · 14/11/2013 21:29

True seven ... unless you bought in Ireland in the years before the crash. So many people in massive massive negative equity paying enormous mortgages with no possibility of ever selling.

mopsytop · 14/11/2013 21:30

Oh dear hinky :(

QueenofClean · 14/11/2013 22:12

Hinky :( hope the leak stops soon.

Seven I wish our mortgage was what you pay we pay very near to £900 a month for our 2 bed + loft room end of terrace house. Average rent for 3 bed is 825 pcm.

Enjoyed watching CIN rocks tonight.

Time for sleep now tho.

hinkyhonk · 14/11/2013 22:40

Turned off all water and drained heating system. Pouring water finally stopped. Plumber going to be painfully expensive...
