As I so frivolously finished the last thread, I thought I'd better start a new one. Go!

Hi glorious,

I've been where you are with the sleep deprivation and totally sympathise with you. My LO was waking several times a night and was a milk monster. I'm afraid I decided enough was enough and I tried controlled crying. First night he cried when I put him down for 10 mins then silence. He woke during the night and the worst he cried was for 25 mins but I did go in to reassure him I was there. I'm not going to lie, it isn't easy but he soon learned that if he wakes in the night, he can get back to sleep without me or milk and being able to get sleep for both of us made me much happier and him. I know others can experience it much worse but I just wanted to share my experience of it in case it helps you. It took about a week for him to really improve but we saw a big difference even after the first night.

X

Bluewater works. Free coffee and cake in the John Lewis cafe if you have a loyalty card (once a month).

Cake for everyone suffering sleep deprivation this morning.

glorious · 17/01/2014 09:30

Thanks for the info newbie and I'm so glad it worked for you. I don't think CC is for me (though absolutely not against anyone else doing it Smile ) but I have been doing gradual retreat which is why she now settles well at bedtime. It just hasn't helped the rest of the night. I think I'm going to try the Dr Jay Gordon night weaning. I don't really want to as I'm happy for her to feed once or twice for 15 mins or so but she seems to be an all or nothing girl Hmm

Last night was awful again so I'll take the Cake thanks! She's now so tired she's napping on my back again already.

pascha that sounds good. I must get a card. Whenabouts? For starters I could do 22nd, 24th, 28th, 7th. Anyone else want to join us?

Pascha · 17/01/2014 10:42

I could theoretically do 24th or 7th feb. Need to confirm childcare for DS1 first.

glorious · 17/01/2014 16:08

Doesn't he like shopping? Wink ok well I'll keep those free and let me know. We can arrange via pm so if anyone else wants to come then speak now! I have a couple of wraps people can try (third one is about to get chopped up and made into another carrier with buckles for the childminder run. Not obsessed at all...)

Pascha · 17/01/2014 16:15

You've never been shopping with a 3-year old have you Glorious Smile?

glorious · 17/01/2014 19:47

I have actually. There was an escalator. It didn't go well! Grin

mrsbug · 17/01/2014 19:52

Glorious sorry you are having a hard time. Is there anyone else who can help you out - do you have family locally?

Sleep a bit rubbish here too - dd seems to be waking less in the night and waking early in the morning instead - today she was up and full of beans at 5am Shock

Today's nursery session was much better. The nursery managed to get her to nap and said she had a lovely time. I picked her up at 4pm, mostly because I missed her Blush

mrsbug · 17/01/2014 20:05

By the way, has anyone washed Ewan (the sheep, of course!) Ours says surface clean only but I'm tempted to take the battery pack out and stick him in the washing machine as he's looking very grubby. I also think his head might be about to fall off Shock

AppleCrumples · 17/01/2014 20:57

mrsbug i don't have a ewan but generally stick most things in the machine Blush I ussually put things i'mnot sure of in a pillow case on a delicate wash.

glorious sorry things are tough, do you ever take time out for yourself?

Wish i lived further south now pascha and glorious Grin

Ivy has discovered puzzles...not in a genius way though she just likes to make a huge pile of puzzle pieces! All mixed up Hmm

She has finalky moved into dd1 room. Wish me luck!

BuntyCollocks · 17/01/2014 20:59

Oh, I'm jealous of your meet, pascha and glorious - and of being able to go to bluewater. I love it.

Argh, my left boob is agony. Deep hurty pain throughout the day, toe curling agony when she's feeding. No cuts or anything.

Help?? I'm currently pumping it in case it needs a bit of extra emptying. It feels hot and throbby. Feeling v sorry for self.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

LetThereBeCupcakes · 18/01/2014 06:47

*bunty" sounds like mastitis I'm afraid. Get some antibiotics pronto.

I also stick most things in the washing machine. For reference, it doesn't do iPods any good!

glorious · 18/01/2014 11:47

mrsbug no family locally andapples very rarely, I suspect that's part of the problem. But then neither does DH, he works very long hours. His pills seem to be kicking in though and he's much more like himself which is really cheering me up too. For the first two weeks in February E will be with the childminder 4 days but I won't have started work so that'll be a good break. DH and I have a posh lunch planned Smile

I agree, if you feel rough it sounds like mastitis. Do you have a temperature? Definitely get it checked out.

CreepyCrawly · 18/01/2014 19:07

Happy birthday Molly!

I've just put my own birthday girl to bed so now for a celebratory curry and film.

Hope you're feeling better bunty, and you too glorious. A little break does wonders :)

Birdies · 18/01/2014 20:39

Happy birthday mini creepy! Was it anyone else's birthday today and whose is next?

Hope you are feeling better glorious and bunty.

Envy of the meet ups.

X is now doing lots of steps, very exciting! Not much on the language front at all though so hoping it's just because she's focussing on the walking.

Birdies · 18/01/2014 20:39

Oops happy birthday to Molly too!

Pascha · 18/01/2014 22:35

Happy birthday little girls! Hope you got lots of Cake and mummies got Wine

I ordered Dans next size car seat today. Got him weighed yesterday to make sure he's heavy enough and he's exactly 10kg. My tiny boy is growing big! He tok a couple of sideways shuffles by himself earlier without realising. Not long now I don't think.

Bunty definitely sounds like mastitis, hope you get it sorted.

On phone so can't see the list so sorry if I've missed anyone.

glorious · 19/01/2014 01:56

Belated happy birthday to Molly and Nancy for yesterday.

E woke at 10 and fed for 40 minutes and then at 12 and is still going Sad I took her off at 120 and she went ballistic for 10 minutes until I let her back on. No night weaning here then, I just can't hack it. But why is she suddenly wanting to feed literally all night (rather than bobbing on and off every hour or two?). I thought we were making progress as when she first started to self settle she was doing 15 mins every 3 hours for a couple of nights which was relatively speaking brilliant.

happyhow · 19/01/2014 05:31

Haven't been on in AGES but have dipped in and out over the last few months! Have just tried to catch up with the thread a little...

Happy Birthday to all the little ones! Where has a year gone? B was 1 last Sat which still seems strange.

Luckily we've had no problems with nursery but he's been going since August so don't know if being younger helped him settle easier. He's had a few cries post Christmas when I've dropped him off but think that's more because he had me for 2.5wks constantly. Seems fine again now.

Sleep wise, he's been sleeping through since Nov; just suddenly seemed to click for him. I did a little bit of controlled crying and would eventually go and see him/feed if necessary but it's almost like he grew out of it. Usually put him down by around 7pm (usually awake and is asleep within 10 mins or less) and we'll get til 7.30am or later. Usually have to wake him to go to nursery but he gets his breakfast there so not too much of a rush in the mornings. Sorry for all those still having problems - sleep deprivation is horrible and you'd like to think it would be over by now!

B can crawl backwards for 3 or 4 shuffles then pushes himself into a seating position then does it all over again! Has the idea of walking but not strong enough to keep himself up. He's beginning to get a bit frustrated with the lack of movement though and gets annoyed sitting in high chairs etc for long periods and wants to be held while standing etc or allowed to play on floor. Talking wise, we have mummum, dada, yeah, no and lots of babbling. He's also developed an incredibly dirty laugh!!!

Currently wide awake owing to slightly tipsy husband coming in at 3.45am and waking me up. Not been sleeping well anyway as found out on Weds I've had a MMC but they won't do anything until they've rescanned this Weds as it was measuring borderline for a heartbeat developing in the next few days despite being physically impossible for dates. Angry Angry and frustrated at having to wait all week but understand the reasons behind it. Just want it over with so we can move on and try again. Grrrr! Sorry, that turned into a bit of a rant, especially when I've not been on for so long!

Great that some of you are managing to meet up and chat in real life Smile

mrsbug · 19/01/2014 07:16

Great to hear from you happy, but so sorry to hear about your mmc.

I have been awake with dd since 5.30am. On the plus side dp has now got up with her and is making us all breakfast while I lie in bed.

mrsbug · 19/01/2014 07:21

Glorious sympathy on the lack of sleep. We seem to have swapped night wakings for early mornings. I tried withholding boob this morning and dd went ballistic, hysterical screaming which would have woken the neighbours even if I had the stomach for it myself.

mrsbug · 19/01/2014 07:22

Oh and belated birthday wishes to molly and Nancy.

Lora1982 · 19/01/2014 08:03

happy birthday girls

Sad for you happy

im losing my evenings again. I'll write our timings see if anyone can help!

awake between half 7 & 8
nap around ten for about an hour
naps in the afternoon for an hour between half 2 & 5
woont go sleep til half 8 & 9

Pascha · 19/01/2014 08:57

Happy birthday to Felix today Cake. Have a good day Fourlegs

Nice to see you Happyhow

Birdies · 19/01/2014 09:39

Sorry to hear that happy :(

lora do you mean he sometimes doesn't wake from his nap until 5pm? If so then that would be why doesn't sleep til later. Not that I'm an expert, but for X to go to sleep at 730pm she needs to have woken from her last nap by 330pm (so 4 hours awake). But every minute she sleeps past 3pm comes off her night time sleep, so the ideal is awake by 3pm.
