As I so frivolously finished the last thread, I thought I'd better start a new one. Go!

cupcakes Shock at your dad! Good luck for tomorrow, enjoy your tea in peace. I'm sure nursery will be just fine.

Very cute about the ball apples .

Yay for meetups! I don't mind collating a list of where people are if that'd help - people could pm if wanting to avoid being outed. Then we could try to work out a sensible location, which will probably take several months anyway Grin

Lora1982 · 10/11/2013 21:44

Im quite proud of dexters ball antics he qite happily pushes it to me back n forth. He also has started pitting the balls in the top of the vtech tree mums got I think I helped him with the chucking for the dog cos everytime he touched one id say 'chuck it for the Oofins'in the hope he didnt try and eat it so now he drops it so itll roll for the dog

newbie6 · 10/11/2013 22:02

Hi everyone,

Well we ended up at out of hours doctor again with DS for same thing as last weekend! Vomiting and temperature, what is going on?? He seems better today thank goodness but I'm a wreck! He had his first day in nursery on ?Friday but he was only there for about 3hrs and I went to get him. They told me he had cried but they had managed to settle him but when I went to collect him he burst into tears and just looked so unhappy, it broke my heart and he got sick on the Saturday.....nightmare! Please tell me this is all normal!!

X

lollipoppi · 11/11/2013 08:43

Hi all, hope you had a good weekend

Ds1 and DD didn't wake up until 8am today Shock considering they've both been getting up at 5.30am for weeks I feel like I've slept for a week!

I am defo up for a meet up!! That would be great!

Cupcakes good luck on your first day back at work today!

lollipoppi · 11/11/2013 08:44

Newbie hope your DS is better soon, there's so much going round at te moment

BuntyCollocks · 11/11/2013 11:53

Aw newbie how awful :( it is normal, when they first start nursery they pick up everything. What a shame he was upset - again, normal.

cupcakes good luck today!

Dd still has this horrendous mucusy cough so going to go back to doc today. We've had two excellent nights since starting gaviscon (wed was 10-6, last night was 7:30 - 3:30 - shame she was then up until 5:30 Hmm ) so I think it is helping. It's just a bugger to get it into her as she hates it. Going to ask about Zantac as apparently that's only once or twice a day.

Pascha · 11/11/2013 12:00

Poor DS, Newbie and poor you. I know what permanent illness feels like, we haven't had a whole good week since DS1 started preschool in september. OK today though, touch wood.

Bunty* I hope you are starting to turn a corner with this - 7.30-3.30 is brilliant. Definitely push for the ranitidine, its better than gaviscon.

Off to pick up DS1 now. Have just fed Dan his lunch- poached fish, mash and veg. Very boring but it was all I could think of to do quickly.

I need some inspiration I think - what do you all cook?

Meringue33 · 11/11/2013 12:22

We will need to stick pins to a map! I'll PM you Glorious but suspect it will take us years rather than months to sort out :)

Sorry to hear that Newbie. We have an early settling in session tomorrow, I am so nervous at the whole process. Think I am going to sob my heart out when I leave him for the first full day.

Pascha, I've been working through the BLW cookbook, even tho it really annoys me because it doesn't give you a time needed for the recipes. I also use the Hamlyn book of 200 slow cooker recipes, which is awesome, and just substitute baby stock. The meat dishes come out really tender so easy for LO to eat.

lollipoppi · 11/11/2013 12:34

Pascha if you think that's boring, Darcie is currently scoffing and egg mayo sandwich Shock can't get more boring than that, but by the looks of it she is enjoying it Grin
Anyone else's LO tell you they've finished lunch by chucking the remaining food on the floor Hmm

Glorious il pm you, I rekon by the time we organise it the kids will be at school and it will just be is lot Wink

glorious · 11/11/2013 12:59

Ooh meringue you've reminded me I want a slow cooker for Christmas, thanks.

You're probably right lolli that it'll take forever. That's probably a good thing as with lots of us back at work/going soon I reckon we've got enough on our plates!

pascha we're having tuna pasta bake. She has lots of fish as she loves it.

I've just booked us a posh lunch out for the week before I go back to work in February when she'll be with the childminder Smile

Pascha · 11/11/2013 13:03

Oh yes Lolli, all over the floor. Then he leans sideways to see it and giggles Hmm

Posh lunch? Lucky you Envy

Birdies · 11/11/2013 13:40

I'm having a stress - can someone reasurre me or is this a bit odd? I daren't post on the child behaviour thing in case someone says something scary. Hoping im just being an idiot.

X is doing well I think - she crawls well, she kneels up, she sometimes pulls herself up and she has a few different babble sounds. But she does this weird thing where she wobbles about every now and then - she sits there and wobbles her bottom and shoulders and head and looks a bit deranged. And now she's poking her tongue out a lot. I can snap her out of it if I get her attention. I haven't ever seen another baby doing that though. Should I be worried?

BuntyCollocks · 11/11/2013 13:51

Thanks, pascha. I am queen of boring for meals Blush I make a big pot of homemade soup on a Sunday and dd and I eat it for lunches. I also have some cheese so she can have a cheese sandwich.

Dinner is usually pasta of some description, although we have made forays into sausages last week. I'm generally doing finger foods which aren't too messy as she is at the
Don't dare try and feed me stage. Lots of fun with soup, it has to be said.

I'm a horrendously fussy eater, and because I cook for just she and I during the week, it's what I'll eat.

birdies don't panic! Ds and dd, although ds mostly, both went through a phase of sitting and shaking their head. It's cause it feels nice/funny. The wriggling on her bum, I've read, could be because it feels nice on her lady bits. Little girls are apparently well known for (ahem) humping stuff. Wriggling like that may feel the same.

C likes to stick her tongue out and look simple, generally when I'm extolling her genius virtues. Honestly, I am the worlds biggest worrier and I wouldn't be worried.

Birdies · 11/11/2013 13:59

Phew thanks bunty. I just rang my mum too as was getting myself worked up and she said she thinks she's just experimenting with different movements. Haha re the lady bits, although surely they're too little to even know they've got any?! Does the humping start around 10 months then? I never knew that!

I think its cos my older DD isn't walking so i can't compare the two of them and the things X does are so different to what I'm used to.

Off to feed her to sleep in a bit will be back with meal ideas. Although I just do the odd big batch cook, nothing overly exciting.

Meringue33 · 11/11/2013 16:27

Birdies has she just started the wobbling?

LO has just in the last couple of days started shaking his head and hands in a way that's quite alarming. I've had to hold off Googling "symptoms of Parkinson's/ MS/ CP" as I know I'd scare myself! I am telling myself it is just another random movement he has just learned to do.

Meanwhile I've managed to drop the shopping with a dozen eggs in it Hmm.

LetThereBeCupcakes · 11/11/2013 19:05

We use a lot of recipes from www.babyledweaning.com/ - watch out though as the quantities are American. I didn't realise American pints are different to UK pints Confused

When I picked up DS from his first day of nursery he was sitting in a highchair sobbing. Proper tears, hiccups, the works. I arrived whilst they were still serving lunch so I was going to wait to go in (saw them through the door) but then I saw he was crying so went straight in to get him. They said he'd been fine until the other 2 babies had started crying which had set him off, but the other 2 babies weren't crying. Not sure what to think, really. Breaks my heart to think of him unhappy but can't afford to not work. Is this sort of thing normal for early days at nursery?

Angielka · 11/11/2013 21:20

birdies Molly does the head shaking like a deranged animal thing, and it was only when I saw her doing it for the first time that I remembered DD1 did it too. She also does a bit of rocking forward and back when she's sitting up, almost jumping from sitting if you see what I mean usually accompanied by grunts when she bounces. They're all normal and we're all normal for thinking it's totally weird Grin.

Sorry about the eggs meringue did you manage to save any for a quick emergency omelette?

I'm up for a meet-up although I'm the awkward out-of-towner whichever place you choose Hmm.

I'm very boring for food too, but since DD1's alarming allergy incident at nursery, I've stopped her having school dinners and have taken on the task of preparing her lunches to take in. I've got a couple of lunchbox recipe books and am planning to do stuff that suits her lunchbox as well as Molly's and my lunch... we'll see how that goes.

Angielka · 11/11/2013 21:22

Oh and cupcakes meant to say, DD1 went through a long phase of crying when I showed up at nursery, and she was very senstivie at the beginning, crying when others cried. She still doesn't like it now she's 3, but in nursery she soon settled down and got into the routine. The beginning is so hard, but they take it in their stride. Good luck!

It's my birthday tomorrow - a quiet day in with Molly not even pretending to do the housework is in order, followed by romantic meal out with DH. Can't wait Grin Grin Grin

Birdies · 11/11/2013 21:48

meringue no she's been doing it for a while. She added a new move today though - nods her head really far forward then really far back, meaning her whole little body jiggles back and forth. So she's got the sideways jiggle and the forward and back going on. Plus the tongue thing. She does it more when she's tired. It sounds a bit different to the head shaking people have mentioned. But trying to just go with the experimenting with movement theory.

angiel thanks, sounds a bit more like X with the rocking. Although X is like a bowl of jelly jiggling about. I forgot to add the grunting, although she saves that for when she's eating! I'm probably not conjuring up a great image of her, she's a dainty little thing really!

cupcakes did you see newbies post about nursery - sounds like you're going through the same thing. I haven't sent mine yet but I have heard that it can take a while for them to settle in.

Food-wise I do a nice cottage pie which they both like, a chicken, potato and broccoli thing and a fish thing. Hmm, that's about it. Oh dear, maybe it need to expand my repertoire a bit. Ella's kitchen features a lot but X isn't that keen.

Happy birthday for tomorrow angiel!

Lora1982 · 11/11/2013 22:25

Dexter does a violent head shake when we say nononono no. He also does the rocking front n back side to side shoulders mainly when he's dancing

HHappy birthday for tomoz angielka!

Poundstretcher are selling wooden activity cubes for 8.99 off to get one saturday

glorious · 12/11/2013 05:50

Happy birthday angielka ! Thanks

We have the tongue thing birdies , I tell her she's not a puppy Hmm She went through a phase of shaking her head too

Have I been up since 1 or did I doze? Confused E keeps waking up 10 mins after falling asleep.

Birdies · 12/11/2013 07:54

With the tongue thing, do yours stick end of tongue behind bottom teeth and then kind of stick the middle bit out? Actually I just tried it and it's quite fun!

Seem to be sleep regressing here. I not only stay up for the dream feed at 1030pm but she also decides 330am would be a nice time to wake up too. I then can't sleep for over an hour and at 6am she's awake for the day. I keep thinking I should move to bottles and try and get her to self settle.

glorious did you get any sleep?

Forgot to say thanks for the train set ideas. Whoever recommended the Hapoyland one, I love the look of that and saw it in John Lewis for £20. But the next day it was up to £32. I think the £20 was a pricing mistake, wish I'd bought it at the time. Oh well.

Anyone else's older DCs like In the night garden? DD1 would happily watch it all day if I let her. I'm going to look for some toys to do with it today to get for Christmas. Not sure what to get though.

Birdies · 12/11/2013 07:56

Ps lora does he only do that when there's music on then?! That would be very cute if they're actually dancing!

Lora1982 · 12/11/2013 09:23

He does it to the tv theme tunes, my singing, toysand when hes in bed waiting to get up.

He's doing that thing where you flick your lip with fingers to make a sound change. I think she must be just experimenting with what she can do birdiies

Pascha · 12/11/2013 10:25

Birdies DS1 has just rediscovered ITNG aged 3 after about 18 months of being completely bored by it. Now he's found a whole new level of understanding (as much as it can be understood, anyway). Daniel just stares in wonder at it, giggling all the way.

I'm booking tickets for the live show next year when the dates come out. I wanted to this summer but he couldn't really give a monkeys about it then.

Dan doesn't really do all that much yet. He copies me when I tilt my head to the side and sometimes tries opening and closing his hand in a proto-wave. Very little babbling, mostly still just squeals, giggles and shrieks. DS1 was the same, no real chatter til well over a year.
