Anyone sitting yet ? I can't figure out how they learn to sit, oscar rolls and pushes right up so most of his front is off the ground but how do they learn to sit ?

Report
MrsBri · 01/11/2013 16:52

We have no rolling here at all. Absolutely no interest in it. Apart from when Amy gets too excited about her feet and rolls while playing with them!

She tries to do kind of sit ups when lying down, which I think will lead to her sitting. I assume. She can sit when put there at the moment.

We keep having lots of attempts to crawl. Just not too much success.

Teething is an ongoing nightmare too. We now have ibuprofen but try to use painkillers sparingly. It's definitely been worse the last few days though. :-/ Come on teeth!

curly - try holding oscar in the sitting position for a bit every day, there'll be a point when you can let go and he'll stay up!

DD is rolling but not sitting. She is trying to pull herself into a crawling position though. I'm rather worried, I'm hoping I get until at least 6, hopefully 7 months before she crawls, I don't have the energy to sort out all DS's toys that aren't baby friendly and stick them in his room...

we have sitting with a little support...absolutely no rolling or attempts to roll! I've been trying to give him tummy time. He no longer cries on his front but invariably throws up (regardless of when he fed) Confused

Happy weekends to all! Hooray for Friday evening and maybe a cheeky Wine

The little bugger has rolled over from his back to his front THREE times now, and every bloody time nobody has seen him do it! It's like he's watching us and making sure he has some privacy :o Since his feet are the current toy du jour I wonder if he's rolling while grabbing them? Will report back if I ever witness it!

For sitting, I sit on the floor with my legs out in front of me, and plonk M in between so he's sitting with his legs apart, and his arms in front of him so his hands are resting on the floor like a tripod. He's definitely getting better! Also, he sits in the highchair during meals if he's awake, and it's the Ikea one where they have to sit up themselves, I think that's helping too.

Shhhhhhh we're letting her settle herself tonight. No crying but its taking her longer to dropoff than one of us feeding her to sleep. Ive been reading the No Cry Sleep book someone on here recommended and was frustrated that nearly everything they recommended we were already doing. Perhaps it doesnt need a major change though. Maybe it is just the little things we do that are causing the multiple wake ups.

I particularly like the advice to give her a cuddly every time she goes to sleep - including nap times in the pram. Shes currently clutching Bunwab to her in a vice like grip. Too cute!

Report
Mrs81 · 02/11/2013 07:28

How did it go Sunny? Hopefully the self-settling thing becomes easier and quicker.

I've been reading it too. Similar to you, I think we need to only make subtle changes. We started bedtime routine 30mins earlier last night and it was so much easier. There was time for a story after his bath as he wasn't over tired and the feed (to sleep) and putting down only took 35mins instead of the usual 60+mins. Hurrah Grin

Report
SunnyL · 02/11/2013 07:50

She went to bed 30mins earlier too and went down in her cot wide awake but went to sleep all by herself. Techmically she had only 2 wake ups last night which isa vast improvement. Thing is we cant tell if its her coming to the end of the sleep regression or if its the little changes we're making.

Anyway feeling good today so no moaning from me for a change.

Previously I would be excited on a Saturday about going out with the girls but no today I am extremely excited as dh is going to cope with dd1 tonight (she has had croup and a nasty cold for weeks) and so tonight hopefully it will only be 2 wake ups to feed dd2 instead of the 7 times I have being getting up on average for the past 2 weeks!! I think the fact that I nearly passed out yesterday may have reminded dh that I'm not wonder woman!

Dd Is currently in her crib babbling away to her cuski as she has been awake since 6 and desperately needs a nap. She had about 10 mins nap yesterday as we had the dsds here and every time she settled they managed to wake her = very over tired baby girl today.

Tried a bit if mushed up banana this morning, think she loved hating it! Fantastic face pulling but loved it.

Not sure this nap is going to happen...DP popped out for 10 mins half hour ago, wish I had his time keeping skills!!!

I never want to come home.

throws lots of sunshine at England & Scotland

Report
SunnyL · 03/11/2013 07:06

Oh Oli I'd accept that sunshine if Icould.

Another brilliant night here with just 2 wakings. Does the regression thing really end that quickly?

Report
Mrs81 · 03/11/2013 07:55

Sunshine sounds brilliant. Lucky you Oli Smile Its blowing a gale outside this now here!

Sleep has magically improved here too Sunny. He was asleep at 7pm last night, and other than a refluxing stint at 10ish (when I also fed him) there was just one other wakening!

The early bedtime seems to make a big difference, the only downside is that DH will barely see DS awake during the week...

Hey I've not wrote a lot on here lately but been reading it every day I can't believe how big our babies are getting I love seeing the photos on the Facebook page :)
I give up on sleep :( the bedtime routine is fine he loves his bath cuddles feed and then will settle himself to sleep but he wakes so often...last night every hour a half...he didn't feed every time sometimes a cuddle and he was straight back asleep. Do you think he could be cold? I have a gro egg and it said the room was warm enough and he was in his sleeping bag but his little hands were very cold :(

On a completely different subject who has a Sophie the giraffe and what do they think of it?

Report
hedgehogy · 03/11/2013 10:42

Sleep regression ended very quickly here, so there is hope (googling at the time wasn't a great idea!).

Arlandria, I've read that it's normal for their hands to be cold, but it might be worth putting mittens on to see if it helps.

We have Sophie the Giraffe and DD loves it!

Glad the weaning is going well.

DD has her bath at 8.30, has a feed and falls asleep around 10 minutes after the start of the feed. She sleeps through till around 6am now without needing a feed. She sometimes stirs but gets herself back to sleep (if it sounds like she's waking properly, we turn on the dream sheep and she goes back to sleep). That's the only time she'll self-settle; she'll never go to sleep during the day by herself (even if we go out for a walk). Because she doesn't feed for long after her bath before she falls asleep, I make sure she has a good feed beforehand - I think that keeps her going through the night.

A surprisingly reasonable amount of sleep last night, down by 8 woke after about 30 mins then back asleep, I went to bed at 9.30 (rock and roll !) and he woke three time until 8 am and then actually fell back to sleep for another 30 mins and he has had a couple of snoozes since !
We have been to the park in the sling today and had a go on the swings which he seemed to enjoy Grin.

We were away last night and Amy slept amazingly well.

5.45-9.00, 10.30-3.00 and 4.30-8.30. I almost stole the hotel's cot it was so good. :-)

Next time I want a good nights sleep I shall book somewhere! Having said that we're back to our three weaklings a night, which I can cope with. Dd even fell back to sleep this morning which meant a big of extra sleep. Smile

We've been having a big of a go with bickiepegs the last few days, she seems quite happy gumming one for a little while. The dog also enjoys them Sad he takes about 0.5 seconds to finish one!

AlohaMama · 05/11/2013 05:43

We have a roller, yay. Though I suppose that means I can't just leave her on the bed anymore. She also slept from 6:30 till 5am today so also good. I have high hopes that when we move and she goes into her own room she might start consistently sleeping though. I guess well see.

Drum roll please.................

Guess how many times the baby woke last night. Go on,guess.

Bloody once! Wooooooooo cue the parade music. I think this sleep regression is finally coming to an end thank the lord.

Oh and well done offspring of Aloha!

Report
MrsBri · 05/11/2013 08:03

Well done baby Aloha! Still no rolling here.

Amy hasn't eaten since 11 last night. She did wake twice, but no food. Surely if she's night weaning she may also start to sleep through?!

She'll probably wake loads tonight now!

She now has a cuddly toy in bed with her. But she beats him up more than cuddles him at the moment. Poor Morgan the Mouse. :-)

Sunny, what an achievement for you. Let's hope it continues!

Is anyone else putting weight on ? Sad I lost what I gained and more quite quickly but over the last month it has started to pile on. I am eating less and exercising about the same not enough. I am hoping the lack of sleep is causing my metabolism to be rubbish. Other than trying to walk more not sure what to do.

Report
DontmindifIdo · 05/11/2013 18:26

My weight loss has plateaued, I'm walking more and hoping that helps. My aim is pre-dd weight by Christmas then stuff my face over the festive period and have to start again so im on track. Curly, do you think you are accidentally eating more? When I'm sleep deprived I crave sugar and white carbs. It's taken effort to make myself go for protein based breakfasts rather than bread/pastry ones, last time round after having ds I gained a lot of weight at around 6months.

I have swapped to all wholemeal due to other problems and have cut biscuits right down. today I had ready brek, jacket with tuna sweetcorn low fat mayo and cheese, scampi and oven chips for tea and three squares of choc. This is worse than recently though. usually only have soup with toast for lunch and no choc.
