I broke the old thread! Step this way, step this way.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFASKJHSKJADHKAJSHD @&#&@&

I am going crazy. DS2 has one cold after another (I think he's had about 5 cold-free days since October). Doesn't want to sleep in the evening, even if we dose him up with Calpol. He basically cries uncontrollably, even if we're cuddling him, but then if we get him up he's the all-singing all-dancing baby. Wakes up every 1-2 hours in the night and/or spends times awake and rolling around making noise because he can't sleep (either cold or teething related I think).

The irony is that he's able to self-settle (unlike DS1 at that age), but only if it's a full moon and the planets are aligned correctly he's not got a cold & isn't teething which is NEVER.

DD is obsessed with the labels on toys too!

I think our car seat goes up to around 12-15 months (Maxi Cosi Pebble) so DD won't be out of that for a while but we've already bought the next one (Pearl) as it was on sale.

Still no teeth here; I thought the bottom ones would be through by now as we've been able to see them below the gum for a while.

Poor baby, rrreow Sad .

Sunbeam18 · 13/01/2014 12:59

That is tough, rrrreow. We never have 'a good night' either. Except last night when he slept from midnight till 845am straight!!!! This never ever ever happens, and am hoping the large dinner he had can take credit (as that's something we can repeat). The difference to my energy levels is astounding. I've even put hot rollers in my hair this morning!

curlyclaz13 · 13/01/2014 13:10

Rrreow I hope things improve soon, we still have very regular wake ups overnight weaning seems to have made it worse if anything and now it seems a tooth is almost here too. Just been screamed at all through lunch so I might have to start doing three meals a day, seems too much too soon aa I only introduced breakfast a week or so ago.

MrsBri · 13/01/2014 19:32

Our weaning is still patchy, to say the least. Ah well, we will get there eventually!

Amy has the teensiest edge of a tooth poking through finally. We're hoping the rest comes quickly as she's been really grumpy these last few days. :-/

hedgehogy · 13/01/2014 19:52

Weaning still patchy here too. DD is having breakfast and dinner but it's still hard timing them for when she's not tired and not too hungry or too full. She's eating a bit more now but still prefers milk.

RueDeWakening · 13/01/2014 23:46

Not even contemplating forward facing car seats yet, I think it's safest for them to stay rear facing for as long as possible - though we won't do extended, since we have no ££ and already have the next stage seat from DS1!

M currently looks like a vampire, he has 2 bottom teeth in the middle, but the two he now has at the top are the next ones out :o very amusing he looks! Although I discovered another tooth starting to poke through in one corner at the bottom, I'm sick of teething already so GAH.

And all children in the house are poorly at the mo, though DS1 is worst - he's been running a temp for the last couple of days and is really miserable unless he's neck deep in ibuprofen and calpol, in which case he's as bouncy as normal. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they're all better soon, I'm shattered.

Sarah2506 · 14/01/2014 17:11

Reassurance please. Polly doesn't move at all. She is quite happy to sit but will not tolerate any tummy time beyond a minute or so. She doesn't roll, or make any effort to move around. I know she can roll but she chooses not to. I know I'm suffering from first time mum itis where you want them to start moving and then hate it when they do. However all her little friends roll, shuffle or in some way move, and she doesn't. Do your DCs move? Polly is now 7.5 months.

Mrs81 · 14/01/2014 18:38

DS doesn't move either; he's never rolled in either direction. He'll stomach (haha) 2-3 mins of tummy time, and until few weeks ago it always made him sick.

I sort of expect him to suddenly commando crawl or something, having decided rolling isn't interesting enough.

I found laying him on my lap on his front, or on a cushion, with his legs on something lower (sofa/floor) was a good start with tummy time. It helps prop him up a bit and makes it easier on his arms. (hope that makes sense!!)

I think it's fairly normal that they don't move yet...Smile

SunnyL · 14/01/2014 18:40

Is it frowned upon to tie your child's feet down at night? Or possibly just a big piece of Velcro? She wakes up sooooo excited to be alive and then spends at least an hour shrieking with joy and thrashing around in her cot. Feeding her, cuddling her and rocking her makes not one iota of difference. The only thing works is for me to hold her legs down and press on her chest saying 'shhh shhh shhh' over and over and over and over again.

pinkbear82 · 14/01/2014 19:30

Sarah, Violet has only in the last few days taken to rolling to get to places. We knew she could roll, but she really wasn't fussed about it. She will also now be on her tummy legs going everywhere and her arms now support her (they would give way and she'd just be a leg waving heap on the floor). But again, this has only really been noticeable the last few days.
I was worried I wasn't offering enough tummy time, so just distracted her a bit more with toys and she seemed to be a bit happier.

You wait, suddenly it'll all click in and you'll have the remotes and everything else vanishing due to mobile baby! I know our cat is not pleased with this new found rolling!

pinkapples · 14/01/2014 20:00

Sunny I've read that's a normal tactic for babies who can't keep still Grin so don't worry

Two teeth here and all smiles with it Grin

Car seat arrived today although yes I agree she'll be staying rear facing for the minute she's a bit little for forward facing yet

Skin is getting worse really need referral now hopefully it will come through soon

AlohaMama · 14/01/2014 21:21

Don't worry at all Sarah - movement is one of these massively variable things. On the flip side, Evie loves rolling so much that changing her nappy is a nightmare. I have to try to pin her down so I can do it up.

Please ladies, how do I stop her tweaking my nipples. Seriously. Feeding currently consists of her pulling off every few seconds to grab my nipple between her thumb and finger and pinching it. Every time I let go of her hand she does it again. Between that and being continuously distracted by every little sound or movement (which are frequent with ds running around) this feeding malarky is getting to be quite hard work. I'm wondering whether to space out her feeds a bit more or drop one. Maybe if she's actually hungry she'll be more focused.

curlyclaz13 · 14/01/2014 21:28

I have a very rolly baby and like aloha nappy changes are a nightmare ! I need a baby jail to contain him as he has also started commando crawling. I would be happy with a still one !
aloha have you tried a fiddle necklace ? I have a gummigems one that he fiddles with and can chew on while teething.

SunnyL · 15/01/2014 04:00

Its 4am. I am awake but the child is not. I should be celebrating by being asleep. Ho hum.

Re baby movements. Until a couple of weeks ago I had a baby slug who didn't move much. She did lots of rolling at 3 months then got bored and gave up. Since starting nursery though those other dastardly babies have been teaching her new tricks. I think it might not be long before we get crawling now. She can lift her butt up or her head up but hasn't worked out both together. She did manage to go backwards last night though. Going to be a nightmare when she does move though as I have an open plan house so everything will need baby proofing.

MrsBri · 15/01/2014 05:40

I've been awake since 3, thanks to a teething Amy waking then. She's been back to sleep for a couple of hours, I'm just lying here. :-/

Amy can roll but doesn't. She has an attempt at crawling, but doesn't get her bum high enough to be successful. It's more the commando crawl of Oscar!

She did rotate 360 degrees on Sunday, after initially going backwards. Not sure what the aim was, but it's movement, so whatever!

She's happiest sitting playing, on her tummy doing 'free fall' position, standing up with support or on her back with her feet in her mouth!

WRT tummy time, she hated it til her lactose intolerance was diagnosed / treated. Now she seems to like it. Her arms are really strong. :-)

We are back at the dietician on Monday. The lactose test caused tummy ache, constipation and green poo. I'm guessing she's still intolerant! We didn't give her much either, thankfully. It feels cruel doing it, but it's the only way we will know if she's grown out of it.

Can't wait to see how heavy / tall she is as we are almost onto 9-12 month clothes. At not quite 7 months. Think she'll be taller than me, and I'm rather tall!

MadameJ · 15/01/2014 08:46

We have a complete fidgit bum, rolls the entire length of our front room and commando crawls, my first dd was just not interested in moving or anything other than boob so it's very different this time round!

She is also doing some very interesting movements whilst bf'ing, as I type I currently have a foot up my nose!! The twiddling hasn't started yet but I remember how irritating it was from dd1, I was so pleased when dd1 was old enough to understand that if she twiddled "mummy milk" stopped.

hedgehogy · 15/01/2014 10:09

Sarah, DD is the same age and exactly the same. Hates tummy time (usually cries after a few minutes although she has a lot of strength despite not doing much of it) and makes no attempt to roll no matter how much I try to tempt her with toys etc. She has never rolled, she's gone onto her side a couple of times but that's it. She can sit well unsupported now though and tries to move from a sitting position (i.e. she will lean over to reach things even if it means ending up on her tummy). She can rotate on her back and loves putting her feet in her mouth.

No idea about nipple twiddling but I ended up with a nipple blister from DD chewing at the end of a feed! Hurts and I'm really hoping it doesn't lead to mastitis. She gets very distracted now; I can't wear patterns as when I do she spends more time looking at them than feeding.

I think DD is going to be vey tall; my husband is 6'6" and she takes after him in most ways so far! She's still following the 91st percentile line though we won't get her weighed for a few months now.

MrsBri · 15/01/2014 10:15

Hedgehogy, Amy had gone up to 96th centile for height in November, maintaining 91st for weight.

The HV won't measure, but the hospital do at every appointment. One benefit of a referral!

I'm not taking her to be weighed by the HV now. I can tell she's fine.

Do people think your DD is much older than she is?

hedgehogy · 15/01/2014 10:22

They haven't measured length/ height here so that is a benefit of a hospital referral. My husband says that he wasn't extremely tall as a child though; he just kept growing when everyone else stopped!

Yes, people do think she's older; I think that's natural because of her size. I'm already worrying about having to prove her age for free transport, child prices etc!

MrsBri · 15/01/2014 11:06

My mum used to constantly get asked why I wasn't at school. When I was 3! I think we will be fielding the same queries.

Amy was parroting sounds I was making last night. Think it's time to stop swearing!

hedgehogy · 15/01/2014 11:34

Haha!

SunnyL · 15/01/2014 13:26

We beat you. Lil is on the 99th percentile for height and the 25th for weight. My husband is also a skinny beanpole tho. Lucky girl getting his body shape rather than my short round shape!

Mrs81 · 15/01/2014 17:16

Hee, Sunny, there's an image. DS is just below the 9th centile for height and weight - but nearing the 50th for his head. We made a lollipop Grin

hedgehogy · 15/01/2014 17:57

DD's head was on the 99th percentile at birth (no idea what it is now)! I'm hoping that plus her weight gives me extra grounds for another ELCS next time (previous section was because she was breech). Especially as the first is usually the smallest.
