Oh no madame, I hope she gets a good nights sleep and starts to feel better soon.

Mrs81 · 28/12/2013 10:20

How is DD1 doing Madame?

We've had a pretty relaxed Christmas. DS has some jolly new toys that he's already paying attention to. The weather's been wild but today the sun is shining and the wind is NOT blowing...hooray Smile

Most exciting of all, ds has developed a new morning nap habit of 90mins, rather than 30mins (which he'd been doing for months). I've not done anything different but it is amazing to have a proper break in the day!

SunnyL · 28/12/2013 16:46

Merry belated Christmas. I'm back from the land of no wifi aka the inlaws.

Christmas was fine. I'm struggling a bit with my SIL so wasn't looking forward to it but it ended up being ok. It's never the same though going to inlaws. We did mark II Christmas with my family yesterday which was good.

We have one lucky little girl given the stash if clothes and toys she has accumulated. She fell out with the wooden trolley we bought her today though. She head butted it when I was a little too trusting of her new sitting abilities.

MadameJ · 28/12/2013 19:12

Dd1 is still really unwell and now dd2 has a mild case if it so I had another all nighter last night :-(

MrsBri · 29/12/2013 08:21

Madame, how did last night go? I hope your DDs are improving.

We didn't have too bad a night once the ibuprofen had kicked in for teething. I wish they'd hurry up and come through as poor Amy is really struggling with it. :-(

Sunny, Amy's sitting is hit and miss. She starts well then either throws herself onto the floor or bends herself in half trying to reach her toys!

It's lovely to see how the lactose free milk has helped her. She's such a calm and contented baby now. I've had a few comments when we are out about how peaceful she is, which is nice! Definitely has her dad's personality. :-)

SunnyL · 29/12/2013 09:12

Sorry Madam that was a bit crass of me posting without reading the ones above. How's things?

Well normally we have the sunny baby. She's definately the smiliest of her friends. Until today that is. Apparently she is a contender for Scotland's Grumpiest Baby today. Her cough has developed into a cold which may in fact be man flu judging by the grumbling that is going with it. The great news is I've just realised that now she is 6 months I can up the calpol dosage!

MrsBri teeth are good but they flipping hurt. Remember not to let them chew your finger once they come in. I was forgetful at first and sticking a finger in her gob used to be a good way to quieten her down when we were somewhere quiet. It's not very quiet though when you're shouting 'ow ow you bugger let go'.

MadameJ · 29/12/2013 10:01

Last night wasn't as bad we all got a little sleep but dd1 has just ate some breakfast and started coughing which then meant she was sick again. Dd2 seems to handle illness better but I'm glad dh is home at the moment!

Sarah2506 · 29/12/2013 10:50

So is anyone else thinking they'd like things to go back to normal now? We've done Christmas. New year is obviously a non event with a small child and DH is under my feet. I miss getting out and about but it's too cold!

Thanks for the congrats on my promotion. I'm still in shock that they have given me it while on maternity leave. Scary though as it means going back to a whole new job, likely heading an immigration team, which I know absolutely nothing about. The extra money only amounts to a couple of hundred a month so not entirely worth the stress and hassle but obviously better than a kick in the teeth.

As soon as we are into 2014 the countdown of returning to work begins!

All otherwise good here. Some mammoth sleep efforts of 13 hours straight which is amazing. Teeth still non existent and still bothering her but I've kind of given up expecting them now!

DontmindifIdo · 29/12/2013 11:02

Madame - DD has chicken pox too Sad - the doctor said as she's over 6 months it shouldn't be too bad but she still might get it gain later as she's under 1. DS has already had it so he's ok.

Poor wee thing. She has been off her food and sicky but at least I got a couple of tablespoons full of porridge down her today.

Sarah2506 · 29/12/2013 12:21

You know you aren't winning the battle with the morning nap when upstairs turns their stereo on really loud....

Sorry to hear that the chicken pox is plaguing Christmas btw. Sounds rotten. We are going to pay for Polly to be vaccinated as soon as she's one. Routine elsewhere in the world just not done here for cost reasons. You've reminded me why I'd like to spare her the misery if at all possible...

MadameJ · 29/12/2013 13:50

It didnt actually develop into chickenpox here (that was the initial thought) just a really nasty virus. Sorry to hear other lo's are poorly :-(

RueDeWakening · 29/12/2013 21:46

Evening all. Sarah - yes, absolutely! Christmas is officially over now, the inlaws went home this afternoon - we've had visitors for over a week now, and I'm tired, the kids are all out of routine, tired, grumpy, etc etc. And there's heaps of rubbish all over the house, grr.

Bah humbug!

Hope the babies are all better/teethed rather than teething etc asap - MadameJ hope you get some sleep soon!

Sunny - I reckon M could give your LO a run for her money :o if he's awake, he's (normally) grinning/laughing/smiling, and has just started laughing properly which is lovely.

M has cut 2 more teeth in the last 3 days, he now has a grand total of 4, 2 middle bottom ones and 2 either side of them at the top - the top middle ones are on the way too

MadameJ · 30/12/2013 09:02

Off to the gp again today this time with dd2, she has the same thing dd1 has but her chest sounds really wheezy :-(

curlyclaz13 · 30/12/2013 10:28

We still have no teeth but oscar is feeding like a new born over night and was crying in pain at 11pm. He is quite grumpy this morning as well. Any chance this could be it ? We have had red cheeks and others signs for at least two months. Lots of ear pulling in the last couple of days.

Mrs81 · 30/12/2013 11:58

Oh that's rubbish Madame. Poor you and DDs. I hope things improve soon.

Fingers crossed for teeth Curly! Mind you, we've had newborn style feeding overnight recently too and bottom 2 teeth are already through. I think DS is trying to drop a daytime nap - but doesn't always succeed. That + weaning + teething = bugger all routine or predictability. I'm just riding it out for now but might need to hook up to a caffeine drip soon!

Am off out with the pram to stomp around the shops. Fresh air will do us both some good Smile

RueDeWakening · 30/12/2013 13:27

curly ear pulling can be signs of teething, but also can be signs of ear infections, so if he's snotty etc as well then might be worth getting checked out not that they usually bother doing anything about it if it is an ear infection.

I didn't get to sleep till gone 2am last night, and M was up again for the day at 6am. Thankfully I dozed off again about 7.30 and DH left me to it while he wrangled all 3 kids - I woke up at 10.45 Shock and feel much better for it!

Getting so I need fresh air too, Mrs81 - I've only left the house once since Xmas Eve, though that was for the whole day and we've had people coming and going for the rest of the time. Going slightly stir crazy now though :o

Mrs81 · 30/12/2013 15:07

Outside was worthwhile, even if it is pissing down and town was full ALL the people.

Can I pick your collective brains? DS will only nap in his pram (once rocked to sleep he doesn't need the motion to stay asleep). I managed one cot nap by fluke a few weeks ago. Does it matter? Should I try and teach him to nap in the cot? Will he eventually just get it (wishful thinking)? It has always ended in tears so far...

MadameJ · 30/12/2013 15:32

Dd2 has bronchiolitis but her oxygen levels weren't too low so have avoided hospital so far. Gotta take her back later today to test oxygen levels again. Thankfully dd1 seems much better today and hasn't stopped eating :-)

MadameJ · 30/12/2013 15:42

Mrs81, dd1 napped in her pram until she was about 2.6 and then she quite happily swapped to her bed as I needed the pushchair for dd2 (she has her naps in there now).
It worked for us!

SunnyL · 30/12/2013 17:20

Oh dear we've joined the sick baby camp. She's had a cough for a few days but last night developed into full on man flu. Poor girl couldn't sleep on her back after about 1.30am so slept in my arms (of course this means I didn't sleep). Her temp rocketed up to 39.5 at lunch time but some calpol and a bottle have brought it down again.

Thankfully DH isn't working tonight so I'll have some moral support if she can't be put down again. I know we're not meant to use pillows with babies but she is so clogged up she doesn't want to lie flat - would it be safe to use for a night a solid-ish foam pillow under her upper body?

RueDeWakening · 30/12/2013 17:52

Sunny, you can use pillows but not for the baby to lie on - try lifting the mattress and putting the pillow under that, so the whole lot is at an angle. You can also put solid books or similar under the top feet on the cot, to angle that up.

Also if she's rolling then maybe try sleeping her on her front, it helps the snot all dribble out but is grim as when it comes to doing the washing :o be prepared for baby and bedding to be covered by morning!

MadameJ · 30/12/2013 18:25

Oh sunny it's so crap isn't it?? I'm sure I will be about during the night if you fancy a chat!!

SunnyL · 30/12/2013 18:57

Excellent idea about the pillow under the mattress. DH just did it and it looks great. She slept well this afternoon in her pram when I had it tipped up like that so hopefully she should sleep a bit better.

A friends daughter had a temp and flu like this a few months ago and she had a febrile fit. My friend is an A&E registrar so has seen plenty nasty things but she said seeing her baby fit it was the scariest moment for her. The advice they gave her was to call 999 if she hadn't stopped fitting after 5 minutes. Her response was the same as mine 'fuck that for a game of soldiers. I'm calling 999 the minute it happens'.

Anyway they told her the reason for her fit wasn't how high the baby's temp had got but the speed at which it rose. So I'm watching Lily like a hawk after that scare.

SunnyL · 31/12/2013 10:39

Well it's amazing what a good nights sleep can do. Lily has woken up far more like her sunny self. Still coughing and snorting but a far more cheerful girl than yesterday.

Hoping the other sick babies are on the mend for Hogmanay celebrations tonight.

pinkbear82 · 31/12/2013 16:54

Ah sending get well wishes to all that need it.

Dd is cutting her first tooth, can see it but not quite through yet. Makes them very grouchy doesn't it?! After struggling all day to get anything done as she refused to nap she has just fallen asleep on the sofa. Means a later bed time no doubt but never mind! A bit of peace and quiet right now is quite nice.

Hope everyone has a fab 2014, enjoy what ever you are doing. We are in and probably, if other nights are anything to go by once dd is asleep, settled and snoring way before midnight!
