I broke the old thread! Step this way, step this way.

No we've not weaned here yet either, I think maybe next week or week after, but no rush. I'm not sure I'm ready to be honest.

hedgehogy · 15/11/2013 20:43

We haven't started weaning yet either - we're waiting till 6 months (in just over a couple of weeks). I'm ebf and I've gone through so much to get to this point that I'm determined to carry on till 6 months (well, I'm hopefully going to carry on till a year along with solids). DD is still happy with just milk and has stayed on the 91st percentile line. Length isn't measured here either. She's going to be tall though as my husband is very tall and she takes after him. I'll have to look at that gadget as we won't be using jars etc.

forgetmenots · 15/11/2013 20:56

Still haven't started here either (he's 23 weeks) - he's a big boy and happy with just his bottles for now. Thanks for the tip on that gadget!

pinkapples · 16/11/2013 09:08

We're not using jars either home cooked all the way Grin

At the moment she's having a morning bottle of 7oz then fruit/rusk at her next feed somewhere between 10-12 with a bottle then she has mashed veg at the afternoon feed maybe between 2-4pm with a bottle then a bedtime bottle of 7oz

Not sure really but it seems to be working an she loves mango! As I found ou yesterday Grin

Hawkmoth · 16/11/2013 10:10

I gave my DD1 a jar once. It ALL came back up. It would have been nice to have a bit of convenience...

My top weaning food was soup pasta, or baby pasta from an Italian deli. Stellini, Orzo etc. I'd stir through either grated cheese or tomato sauce (make with onions, garlic, tinned tomatoes, blend and freeze in tiny portions). Both my two thrived on that and it's an excellent excuse to visit the deli (which does the best vanilla slices ever because they are as big as my head and top sandwiches).

RueDeWakening · 16/11/2013 19:36

Happy half-birthday to M, he's 6 months old today Shock how did that happen?!

curlyclaz13 · 17/11/2013 02:12

Oscar just slept 8-1.45 Shock I fed him for 5 minutes and he's asleep again but I am sure he will wake every hour now then be wide awake at stupid o'clock to balance it out. I actually came to bed at 9.30 so had a reasonable. sleep myself.

hedgehogy · 17/11/2013 07:02

I've been looking at the pouch filler gadget and it looks great. The version by fill n squeeze looks good too (and looks like it might take up less room in the kitchen?). We'd only use pouches when out and about though, so I'm trying to work out if it's worth the investment.

DontmindifIdo · 17/11/2013 10:26

I didn't use pouches much for DS, but they are useful when you are travelling or if you don't plan to be out over a meal time. That said, this time round I'm going to go down the BLW route more so hopefully buying food when on the go will be easier.

DD refused to have her 10pm bottle last night, only drank about 60 mls of it, so was up at 5:30am. We're going ot PIL for lunch and so food, sleep times are all over the place, I had hoped she'd sleep through lunch, guess it's going to be a baby juggling day again.

BTW - is anyone else finding nicknames are really sticking now? DD was going ot only be Eloise, but DH started calling her Ellie, DS is too and now I find I'm hardly saying Eloise but Ellie. I didn't want a cutsy name for DD, but I've ended up with one. I think I'm going to have to make a point of saying Eloise more and see if I can retrain DS back into saying her full name...

MrsBri · 17/11/2013 10:42

We call Amy chicken because when we first got her home she made a really convincing chicken sound! Still does on occasion.

We have to keep remembering to call her Amy so she doesn't think she's called chicken!

She always needs an overnight bottle too. She's such a hungry baby! The longest spell without food us about 6 hours to date. Maybe once weaning is established she will sleep more. I hope.

curlyclaz13 · 17/11/2013 12:15

Oscar's nn is popsicle but also Osk or Oscar pop. I specifically wanted a name that could be shortened and wasn't sure how we would do it with Oscar as people suggested Ozzie that I hate.

Sarah2506 · 17/11/2013 12:54

Polly Bean. Pickle. Pickly Bean. Polly Baby. Never just Polly:-)

pinkapples · 17/11/2013 14:37

We favour whatever name in the moment Grin at the minute it's squidge

SunnyL · 17/11/2013 14:50

Considering Lily is only 4 letters she has a myriad of nicknames. Lil, Lil PiL, Lily the Pink, Poppet, Pest, toots, silly billy lily.

Changing the subject slightly. I wanted to ask those of you who have experience of nurseries. At the moment Lil sleeps really well during the day but it's after I've walked her about in the pram. It doesn't work if I just put her in her cot, or pram. She needs motion to go to sleep.

So how will this work when she goes to nursery? We've got 2 months and before I go back to work. Clearly they have other babies to look after so I can't imagine them taking her out for a walk when she's tired.

Do I need to train her to just go to sleep in the pram without walking?

If so how do I do it?

hedgehogy · 17/11/2013 16:29

No nickname here and I hope it stays that way - I only like the full version of the name (Isabelle).

DontmindifIdo · 17/11/2013 16:54

Sunny - I don;t think the nursery would walk her, but they might rock her to sleep. It took DS a few weeks to get used to sleeping ar nursery, but he managed it.

pinkbear82 · 17/11/2013 18:13

Dd tends to get her first and middle name used together, and my best friends dh called her spud when she was about a week old and that's really stuck, between us and them.

Currently have a snotty, coughy, unhappy little girl who isn't sleeping great.resulting in an autopilot mum and not much getting done. Hoping tomorrow holds a better day and sleep is soon favoured again.

Sarah2506 · 17/11/2013 19:51

Sigh. Not a great couple days. Lost the house for good, got a speeding ticket, child inconsolable in swimming pool and had to be taken out. Oh and on a walk she pooed through her tights, leggings, carrier and my jumper. That was lovely. oli please send details of that resort in Morocco:-)

pinkapples · 17/11/2013 21:30

Pink Theiah sounds the same all bunged up and grotty so bedtime
Is a nightmare I've stuck her in cot with monitor on as there's nothing else I can do

I manage a nursery and went back to work with Theiah at 11 weeks sunny it is hard to say about individual nurseries but in mine we would do what you do for your little one for a couple of weeks to get them used to nursery first then slowly and with lots of communication with you start to adjust her sleepin habits first I imagine to sleeping in a pram with rocking indoors then sleeping in pram no rocking then the transition to a cot my little one still needs rocking to sleep then putting in cot but I imagine after Christmas she'll make the move to being put in cot and let to crack on good luck xx

Mrs81 · 17/11/2013 22:27

Sarah, what a rubbish couple of days. Lots of sympathy Brew Do you have your eye on any other houses?

We've had a fairly knackering weekend. DS is still having a least one mega-puke per day. Until recently his sick resembled curdled milk but now, even if 1-2hrs post feed it still looks "fresh" (but smells sour like proper sick). V odd. We're trying not to worry but it's so hard....

Olimoss · 18/11/2013 07:16

Oh Sarah that's really sucky, poor you.... the hotel was the Sofitel Mogador Essaouira - might I recommend one of the Prestige Villas?!?!

All fine here, we weekended in Norfolk which was nice, poor J gets dragged around everywhere but he seems to be, as a result, fairly happy with most people, places and situations....the teeth I think continue to bug him, poor chap. Anyone else's baby have sort of rough cheeks when the teething is having a surge? I've been using Neal's Yard Baby Balm on it, seems to help.

pinkbear82 · 18/11/2013 08:05

Oh Sarah hugs re the house. I truly hope this means there is something better yet to be found. Although I imagine right now nothing ever will feel better or as good. Fingers crossed for you.

Pink, dd also sounds as tho she has a sore throat, very croaky cry. She's warm to touch but no temp. She just screams/cries/croaks randomly without rhyme or reason.

After having been restless for the last 3 hours she has just fallen asleep in the middle of my bed starfish pose. I of course should be getting up, but am v tempted to steal some more sleep, may result in less drastic results at the hairdressers later.....mind I decided the other day to go from blonde (which i have always been) to brunette the other day. So maybe a drastic cut to match will be ok!

Hawkmoth · 18/11/2013 08:31

Sorry about the house Sarah. We had a terrible week last week with mortgages, the stress really is incredible.

Re nicknames, I don't think the baby gets called her real name at all. Everyone calls her Bobbie, unless they call her Bobsy, or Spud.

Olimoss · 18/11/2013 09:26

Nicknames, I forgot! Joe is mostly Joebot. Or, predictably, Joe-Joe. Or JB. Or J. Or, embarrassingly, The Bot or Botbot. Or Baby Joe (as christened by a mate's 7yr old, seems to have stuck. Hell love that when we are still calling him it aged 18).

Actually he's probably mostly called Bimbo (Italian for baby)' or 'piccolino bimbo Joe'.... More piccolo than piccolino these days, to be fair.

pinkbear82 · 18/11/2013 10:20

Oli - re the baby Joe..... My friend has Baby Jack, namely because a mutual friend has a cat called jack..... The cat got christened 'fat jack' and Baby Jack, well, Baby jack! He is now 5 and is still often referred to as Baby Jack, although we do all try not to do it so much. Fat Jack however, I think may stick forever, especially as they have a little boy now who believes the cat is just 'fat' and never adds cat!

Wondering if tonight I try dd in her cot, she seems to like to spread out, and her crib doesn't allow that. She can when in with us, but wonder if we all then disturb each other. She's napping in her cot now, and although coughing from time to time is settling back afterwards. Maybe she just likes having space to sprawl out.
