I broke the old thread! Step this way, step this way.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I'm hoping to get a sheet of foods to avoid / useful ones to use for calcium intake etc.

I'll let you know what's said either way.

Our HV was going to refer us to the community dietician if the hospital didn't arrange it. Could yours do that?

Mrs81 · 14/11/2013 17:13

Might be worth a shot. I'll ask our gp at next review; hvs are an invisible voice at the moment Hmm

DS is now just below 9th (born on 50th) so I want to feel as confident as possible with weaning choices etc, if that makes sense...

cyclecamper · 14/11/2013 19:01

My dr's surgery have a dietitian, so I saw her. She suggested weaning then (5 months), but I wanted to wait a bit so started a week before he was 6 months. He is very happy with solids, especially anything with sweet potato in it. I have just got an infantino pouch filler so I can make my own pouches which is brill!

Stepson was supposed to let the washing machine man in but didn't bother going downstairs so I have another day with no machine. I burst into tears when I saw the note through the door saying there was no answer.

pinkapples · 14/11/2013 19:59

Mrs bri what milk is amy on now? Theiah's switched to a soya milk and we've had a go at fruity porridge (no diagnosis of dairy/lactose intolerant) and she came out with her rash (that with the soya milk and cream has all but disappeared) so were at the doctors on Monday for a check and see what to do next

Cold is no better Hmm

Good news tho she was 5 months yesterday and we have moved her to sleeping upstairs without us Grin she feeds downstairs with dh when he gets in from work then she goes up to bed (still in our room) dh reads her a story and then we come down Grin day 2 and she's up there now we've got the monitors on GrinGrin

cyclecamper · 14/11/2013 20:05

pinkapples the baby porridges all seem to be non vegetarian which is why I've stuck with baby rice which is veggie. They mostly have whey which is dairy and often not veggie.

pinkbear82 · 14/11/2013 20:15

I typed a big post this morning moaning about lack of sleep and dp being useless luckily ladies it vanished. And i have spent the day with my mum who has made everything better :) i loves my mum.

Tried some baby rice today, wasn't all spat back so see that as a fairly good start! Think maybe some banana in it to sweeten it a bit might help. Tastes pretty meh to be fair.

hope all the colds are drying up and little ones are feeling better.

dd supposed to be having jabs tomorrow but she's fighting something and I'm not sure having them is going to help. She hasn't a temperature so i think they'd say it was fine. What would you all do?

SunnyL · 14/11/2013 20:53

Pink we had jabs yesterday despite her cold. Hasn't seemed to bother her at all.

Saying that we had a fairly unusual crying fit this afternoon with her jamming her hands in her mouth. Topped her up with bonjela, calpol and boob. A winning combination apparently Smile

MrsBri · 14/11/2013 21:18

Pink, we are on SMA lactose free milk. We get it on prescription, but it's about £6 a tin if you buy it.

Amy is thriving on it and is maintaining her 91st centile weight and is up to 96th centile height! We're both tall so I suppose it's not a surprise. 67cm seems quite tall though. :-)

We mentioned to the consultant that we'd already given Amy banana and she didn't bat an eyelid. Clearly they aren't too concerned about 4 month weaning. She recommended baby rice made with the LF milk.

Bearing in mind we haven't built any routine for Amy, she seems to be finding one herself. Or a pattern, I suppose as her timings vary daily.

When she goes sleep in the early evening it's now in her cot bed in her room. She seems to sleep far better up there.

If she wakes at about 8 ish we feed her downstairs, but give her her final feed upstairs in her room sitting on the nursing chair.

She's doing really well at getting into a regular pattern. Bloody miracle considering how relaxed we've been about it all!

pinkapples · 14/11/2013 22:19

Were on the cow and gate infasoy at the moment but the doctor said if it was working they would give us a prescription so well see on Monday little one is still asleep since we put her down at 7.55 so happy days well see what time she decides to wake us tonight night all xx

pinkapples · 15/11/2013 05:27

Is that the wysoy mrsbri?
For those of you weaning when are you giving your little ones food?

MrsBri · 15/11/2013 08:00

No, it's just called lactose free. Some babies are allergic to soya so I think that's why it's avoided. Ours comes in a dinky half tin. Our recycling has increased somewhat!

Olimoss · 15/11/2013 09:34

Pink - J has porridge and then banana at 7am, with 120ml bottle afterwards, then at around 530pm he has savoury with a rusk to follow, then a big 220ml bottle at 7pm before he goes down.

I suppose we will slowly increase amounts? Am just going on instinct and what he's happy to take in; the amount of porridge has increased twofold over the last month, for example, and he's up to half a mashed banana instead of a quarter. That type of thing.

He's 6 months at end of this month and has been locked i to 50th height/75th weight centile since birth. Has long legs but doesn't seem to be a massive chubber, just a nice thigh crease and a terrible case of cankles.....he's def into 3-6 month clothes with a couple 6-9 months shirts that he wears.

cyclecamper · 15/11/2013 10:18

I'm giving baby rice and buttered toast at 7 am, pureed veg at about 12 noon and about 4-4.30pm. It all depends on where we are and if he's sleeping. He copes better if it isn't too late - 5pm was a bit of a disaster!

cyclecamper · 15/11/2013 10:19

He's six months and a week and only just in 3-6 clothes which are pretty baggy! He's on 0.4th centile, corrected!

Sarah2506 · 15/11/2013 13:39

So am I the only one who is far too lazy hasn't started weaning yet?? We are 5 months 1 week. She's maintained her 50th percentile line throughout. I have no idea how long, they don't measure that here!

I keep thinking I must start but then I think it will wait another few days and will be such a change that I shouldn't rush. What do you think, no need to start before six months?

Polly has a terrible cold. Snot everywhere! Gave her calpol yesterday but such a mess haven't today. Do you just ride it out or medicate??

Mrs81 · 15/11/2013 14:04

Fear not, Sarah, I'm holding out too. Partly because weaning gives me the hebejeebies (not a good reason), partly because DS can barely keep milk down this week (a better reason).

I'm hoping to introduce baby porridge around 24wk mark and build up to baby-led/finger foods from there.

MadameJ · 15/11/2013 14:05

We haven't started yet (20 weeks) im in no rush!! Little lady still seems satisfied with boob and is 19lb 2oz and 67cms long so clearly it's good stuff :-)
I'm not sure I'm ready for the extra mess!

curlyclaz13 · 15/11/2013 14:23

no food here at 5 months, Oscar is on 9th centile weight and 50th length. I am holding out until as close to 6 months and he is sitting if possible.

cyclecamper · 15/11/2013 14:25

I only started a week before he was 6 months. Unless there is a medical reason, the closer to 6 months, the easier it is.

Hawkmoth · 15/11/2013 14:29

Hello.

We're not weaning yet, but DD is increasingly miserable at every mealtime, staring and chomping with very sad eyes.

There appears to be a tiny bit of tooth poking through, which is alarming, yet pleasing because we didn't really notice "teething" as such, just a few extra night feeds.

rrreow · 15/11/2013 15:47

Not weaning yet here either. Although we might start putting a few things on the highchair tray as DS2 seems really keen. I met a friend for lunch today and we went to a burger place and Z was nicking chips off my plate and trying to gum them. I wish I could keep him on milk for the rest of his life, I can't face stinky poos from two children at the same time. Envy [boak]

SunnyL · 15/11/2013 18:46

We're not weaning either but then she only turned 5months on Tuesday. It's all you lot that couldn't wait until June to have your babies that are making me think about weaning. If you'd kept to your expected due dates ladies Grin

We went to Next today with a £50 voucher to get some clothes for the next size up. Blooming eck you can do some damage with £50! DH wouldn't let me get her a funky Christmas jumper though. He seemed to think it would be like her Halloween outfits and she'd only end up wearing them in bed. Boooo to him.

cyclecamper · 15/11/2013 18:55

Sorry SunnyL!

I totally recommend the infantino pouch filler gadget. Because you don't dip the spoon in, you can give it again later. I'm keen that baby c likes my food rather than stuff from jars and the pouches make it easier.

curlyclaz13 · 15/11/2013 19:30

Oscar may have nibbled the mexican menu Blush there is a bit missing now.
