Evening all!

Very busy here today! E weighed, have been told to cut to two bottles as he is still apparently growing too quickly. I disagreed and said I will drop the 3rd when he drops the 3rd/takes it down to 3oz or less regularly. He took ages to settle tonight. I do hope he gets used to his new room, he never ever cries proper tears but has every night since being in there, it makes me feel very guilty. Perhaps I should sleep on a blow up mattress in there with him for a bit?

I've not heard the chimney sweep rule pr Confused

Lol Detective hope you get your shag soon - the very thought of such added restriction puts me off having another!

sounds like some lovely days were had!

I think you can POAS whenever you like apple :)

pass glad you're safe! Sounds like a nightmare though!

detective congrats on your niece!

chasing your non date date sounds very exciting! Am so pleased you're so positive!

stunt e only pulled himself up for the first time a few days ago and now he's always trying to do doing it. I do wish he didn't end up falling over so often, i am constantly inches away from him to stop him from falling these days. I am not sure if i'm supposed to but I don't want him to really hurt himself. Good luck with the move btw, not long!!

pass I think i'd try it, and I am sure P will soon tell you if it's right. If it isn't enough milk/calories she will wake and have unsettled nights/need feeding i'd think? She is doing really well with solids by the sounds of it and 20oz is enough, 17oz iirc is the minimum for them until 1 and that includes dairy in the diet so it sounds like she is still having enough.

Can't remember what else I meant to say. Maybe e has been a whingebag today, and keeps falling over despite my efforts to stop him from falling over, and he has earned himself a nice carpet burn on his forehead, and i'm meant to take him for his photos tomorrow. Lush! He faceplanted the carpet. Poor sausage!

Sophiathesnowfairy · 20/08/2013 21:01

pass go for it. O has been on three for a while now. I don't count oz any more and am starting to think more towards a balanced diet. If you can use milk in cooking then she gets extra that way. Xx

Sophiathesnowfairy · 20/08/2013 21:02

Ooo. Midwives on bbc2.

ChasingDaisy · 20/08/2013 21:04

pikz I was excited to see a guy from MK on there, but he's annoying me already Sad Don't Tell the Bride on now Grin

MsJupiterJones · 20/08/2013 21:04

So glad you had a lovely day VQ and J got a chance to practice his skills. He is going to be running rings around your girls in no time Smile

Kyz I meant to say thanks for the reassurance about sleeping. We had a rough day of nap resistance and total grumpiness. Maybe we'll finally get a tooth through.

Chasing L loves to play peekaboo too! He thinks it's hilarious and peeps round the muslin when he's meant to be hiding.

PetiteRaleuse · 20/08/2013 21:06
Cake

good night quiche. Glad there were some good days had. pidj when you mentioned the ferry yesterday I had no idea where you were talkimg about. Had forgotten about the IOW, (sorry luis ) and was thinking about Scottish islands and getting quite confuddled.

Thanks go to stunt for her help in analysing my blood results. Nice to know I don't have to lay off the precious butter. I never quite get used to receiving lab results at home. There are French websites dedicated to explaining all the usuals. I remember once when I lived in a place with no internet, back in the dark days, having a sleepless night over something which had been asterisked as being important and having to wait til I got to work to find out it was, in fact, nothing much.

PetiteRaleuse · 20/08/2013 21:09

Shame your car issues weren't tomorrow pass you could have unleashed sweary fucking Wednesday on the unsuspecting world outside the quiche.

Pikz · 20/08/2013 21:25

Need a all in one waterproof for nursery any recommendations?

Passmethecrisps · 20/08/2013 21:31

I could have done Pr. I was trapped in a village with no cafe or apparent toilet facilities. I did find a toilet but only after I had fantasies of peeing in my cup.

Thanks for your thoughts chaps. My sensible head says the CM is right. P did have a very unsettled night last night but she clearly has teeth coming. What is the worst that can happen? I always thought/hoped that being at the CM would help p shuffle along to weaning. I am hanging onto milk like a security blanket because it is measurable. Enough. Enough enough. Time to let it all go

Passmethecrisps · 20/08/2013 21:32

Missed the fucking bake off. Fuck. Thank fuck for the iPlayer!

Kyz · 20/08/2013 21:48

pass I am very guilty of the same, it's odd and tricky, this transition to foodage!

In bed. Do I go to sleep or blow the dust off my kindle and read something for a bit?

Elizadoesdolittle · 20/08/2013 22:13

Am back in dark corner of hotel room but both girls are sleeping peacefully now so will take advantage of that and have an early night myself. Wasn't too bad sharing a bed with DD1 apart from the fact she is such a bloody fidget.

Had a great day at longleat safari park. E loved watching the monkeys and squealed when one sat on our car bonnet and then climbed on the roof.

I've been putting her in the sling quite a bit more lately and she seems to really like it now. Gives her prime opportunity to be nosey. I'm afraid it's not a wrap around sling like most of you seem to have but she seems comfy and I do t have her in it for hrs at a time.

Her top 2 teeth are poking through so that's 6 teeth she has now. I only noticed when I changed her nappy today and she threw her head back. She hasn't complained at all, bless her.

pass I think you should follow the CM lead on this one. I know E is a completely different kettle of fish but if I obsessed with how much milk she had I would be freaking out on a very regular basis. If P seems ready to drop a bottle I say go for it.

TheDetective · 20/08/2013 22:15

I have just watched Midwives. Makes me want to get back to work, but terrifies me in equal measures. Waaaaah!

I feel a very different person to the one I did when I left to have O. I wonder what I will be like when I go back? Having O really opened up my eyes to some things.

I loved loved loved LOVED taking O out in the sling today. So happy I have one now! Gutted I didn't just bite the bullet and get one sooner. So yep, O can still escape if he wants (!) but he was quite happy in it for over an hour, til he was ready for a nap. I took him out, put him in the pushchair and he slept there. He didn't seem able to sleep in the sling. Once he was awake and fed, I put him back in the sling. Did it on my own, in a cafe, with no mirror! Got some funny looks, but oh well! Also, I think I mentioned before people in my town don't wear slings! Well, I've never seen anyone! I got a lot of funny looks, whispers and staring! One woman commented how lovely it was and asked me questions which was nice Grin.

Also. Slings and dresses don't do well unless you are wearing leggings under them Grin.

I really need to pull my finger out and get a lightweight buggy now. I want a Maclaren Quest. When I tried them out, the Quest was so much lighter and easier to manage. So I want that! Then I can use a buggy to cart the crap along, and still have it with me if I need it, without it being too cumbersome.

Couple of questions for those with slings - when sitting down, how does it work? I had O on my front, so sitting on the bus was okay, aside from the fact that O could put his feet down and stand up, making it a right PITA! But on your back? How do you sit? Do you? I can't imagine getting a bus with him on my back!

Why did my legs ache but nowhere else?

And what do you do about carrying all the shite that babies need? Well, specifically refluxy babies. I need at least 2 spare changes, wipes, nappies, gaviscon, bottle, food, bib, muslin cloth when I go out. Unless it is for an hour or something, in which case I can manage with less. Do you use a rucksack? Please say no, I don't like them!.

How do you go the toilet? What do you do with the baby? Leave them on you Confused. There is nowhere to put them down, unless you take a buggy too - which I will be, but was hoping to not always need one!

Sorry, that is a lot of sling related questioning Blush. Perhaps I need to overthink this less!

What I loved the most was when I go out, I never feel like I am spending time with O. Just that he is with me. Today I felt like I spent all that time with him, and it was lovely!

PurplePidjin · 20/08/2013 22:23

IoW was fab, would you like some pics?

I have beaten the shit out of my sparring partner and am feeling much better. Will arrange transfer of more savings tomorrow, we've run through 3.5k in 8 months Sad but TC and wages go in this week so should tide us over. I've also got an application form to do to register with a babysitting agency, and a band to get off the ground, and dp's got some promising ones to look into. It will get better. It must.

ChasingDaisy · 20/08/2013 22:25

Det that is a lovely sentiment about actually spending time with O when out. I felt the same so tried to carry him around as much as possible when we were out today. Obviously a sling is more practical!

Passmethecrisps · 20/08/2013 22:31

Yes pp!!

YellowWellies · 20/08/2013 22:37

Det I feel like that with the ergo -the days he's in it are the days his language goes up a notch and I feel like we really know each other and are in sync. I suppose spending hours with them literally right under your chin babbling clawing at you will do that. I go to the loo with him still on me. I'm going to tell him this when he's a stroppy teenager. In front of his pals.

Pass I'd go with the childminder - feeding other folks kids is her specialty trust her experience if you are unsure either way? But don't go against your gut as you are P's Mum and know her best. Lots of reflux babies do end up massively preferring solids to milk.

ValiumQueen · 20/08/2013 22:52

Fucking app. I think we have a soy problem. Posted long description and it sodding disappeared. Skin rash, discomfort, snot, vomit, hysterics. The end to a perfect day.

DD2 seems to have grown up overnight. I hope it continues and includes less desire to bolt.

Only 2 years of two in full time child care then only two more with just J.

TheDetective · 20/08/2013 23:16

Sorry VQ :( We got a (slightly delayed) reaction to soy too. I have found he can have traces of soy (in bread) but not soya as yoghurt etc.

I know you have given J soya before, is this the first reaction?

Chasing I had to carry O a lot when out, but it was a struggle. So much easier with the sling!

YW You just reminded me of something DS1 said tonight!! O was naked, sat playing with his bits when DS1 pipes up, 'Why is he doing that'. I just said that's little boys for you... and he replied 'boys? I thought only men played with them'. Well fucking hell, I didn't know where to put my face!!

YellowWellies · 20/08/2013 23:17

Oh crap VQ still once you know what the issue is it's easier to resolve. No real tips as you know what you're doing just label check and be careful with cereals and bread (soy is in more than milk is) (Tesco wholemeal is your friend) and ready prepared stuff. Personally I missed soy less. It tends to resolve at a younger age than dairy too. If you want some wot no dairy yogurts shout, I bought a case (they're UHT so last forever) and Jonas has decided they're shit Envy he's right but how does he know what he's missing!!?

YellowWellies · 20/08/2013 23:19

Det that's interesting on the soy traces - now Jonas can handle me eating soy occasionally I wonder about trying him on trace soy. Please let Mummy buy Warburton's toasty wee chap Smile

Bryzoan · 21/08/2013 04:18

G is fine with soy traces but in agony with soy yoghurts / custard too. So worth a try yw. Vq - sorry your life just got harder again. Wishing I could send you a break.

Det - I use a backpack (sorry) and wear g when I go to the loo. I actually find that another advantage of carrying when out by myself as with a buggy I'm not happy leaving him outside the cubicle and a buggy often doesn't fit in. The backpack does make me a bit of a wide load front to back. My top tip is get one with side bottle pockets so you can reach water and raisins for him without having to take the pack off. I have not done any back carries yet.

Pr - pharmacist aside, doc trip sounds useful. Hope things are looking a little better? Hang in there.

Meeting my boss today to discuss rtw in nov. Have been to and fro-ing alot as have the offer of 2 days pw on good money, with a job reshaped for my 'best bits'... Which I know makes me v v lucky. But we could (just) afford for me to stay off, and with dd's additional needs our lives get hectic and it makes me even more want to put the kids first. Childcare wise I am thinking maybe of doing 3 v short days rather than 2 longer ones so g has less time at nursery in a block and I can pick dd up from preschool? I know it is nothing compared to what many of the rest of you do but I'm wobbling. Would prefer to be with the kids but am nervous about letting go of financial independence. Dh is a vvvdh but I think my perception of the reltnship might change not all in a good way if I am totally financially dependent. Hated going back to work after dd1 though (3 full days) and really resent the time I missed with her. Thoughts on a postcard?

Excited about Saturday for you chasing. He sounds lovely. Only 3 and a tiny bit sleeps to go!

Pennie - conceived at blackgang chine?? WTF? Where scratch that not sure I need to know. What a claim to fame!

StuntNun · 21/08/2013 06:38

Oh no VQ, what food was the culprit? I wouldn't even know where to start looking for soy. Is it listed in the allergy information on packaging?

J had a terrible night. He's still periodically screaming in pain. Calpol seems to help a bit but I just have to wait for the pain to pass, he can be quite inconsolable the poor little mite. I'm sure I haven't had any egg in the past few days so I'm wondering if he has another intolerance as well. The skin below his mouth and in his neck is fire engine red and very dry so it looks like a reaction to something. I suppose it was pure chance that we found out about the egg intolerance. He has had formula, yoghurt and cow's milk with no ill effects so at least dairy isn't the culprit. I'm on quite a restricted diet at the moment with low carbing (no processed food, no bread, etc.) so I'm mainly eating meat, dairy, vegetables and berries - not many sources of allergens there. I am probably getting gluten and soy so I could try eliminating these completely as well.

We're heading back home today. DH has had a week's sleep peace so hopefully he'll be a little more relaxed. I left the house in a completely immaculate state (because we had the survey the day we left) so it'll be interesting to see what I'm going back to. I suspect he may have been working in the loft while I was away, it would be great to see some improvement there. DS1 and DS2 are back at school Thursday week so I'll have to start packing then. I'm scared wibble. Last time we moved was awful and we have two extra children and a shitload more stuff now.

We stayed at my parents' last night, they will give us a lift home after lunch. O just loves being with them, she is so happy. She has tooth nr 3 and nr 4 as of today.

det any nice guys you know in Hungary? Pretty pls?

izzy I'm in love with your little one, he is just mega cute.
bry 3 short days sounds good, I would much prefer it than 2 long ones.

det probably gross but I took O with me to the toilet when in sling.

StuntNun · 21/08/2013 06:56

According to this page common allergies are to:
Cow's milk
Eggs
Soybeans
Peanuts
Treenuts
Wheat
Fish and shellfish

Common intolerances are to:
Dairy
Additives such as MSG
Strawberries
Citrus fruits
Tomatoes
Red wine

J eats yoghurt daily but his symptoms come and go so I think that's probably safe enough. I might try excluding the rest of these no not the wine don't make me give up the wine for a couple of weeks and see if there's any improvement.
