New thread for us ladies. :-)

Yeah, I've just started to wear more exercise-friendly clothing as well so I can build up a sweat. 4mph is slow for me, pre-pg / op and without a pram. With all of those factors combined it feels quite fast! And poor Amy doesn't appreciate me going much faster.

I used to do 2 hours on the cross trainer with only a 5 minute break after an hour, so I'm hoping my stamina returns soon!

An email I just received said c section ladies should leave it 12 weeks before exercising. I can't wait that long to start losing weight!

Any hills your way? I don't think blanket generalisations about exercise and sections are helpful! You know your body and what's right for you. If you were unfit before then now would not be the time to start a new hardcore routine but if you start back on what you used to do slowly then that should be fine I would think. I ran two miles yesterday. Biggest problem now is my knees. Loads of extra weight on them has mashed them completely, running very painful. Do wish I hadn't packed on 20kgs! Need to get right back down before we even think of a second baby!

SunnyL · 18/08/2013 18:26

MrsBri I started that C25k last week and I'm quite enjoying it. I'm definately not a runner - I've never enjoyed it. However there arent many forms of exercise I can do with a baby in tow but on a smooth path I can run with the pram. It starts off nice and easy and it's giving me confidence that I'll keep it up.

Other than that it's weight watchers for me. They gave me a gold star this morning

MrsBri · 18/08/2013 18:32

My knees are screwed too. They've always been bad, but they've been better the last couple of years after I lost 2 stone. Now the weight and knee issues are back. :-/

We're going to try for another next June, so it really needs to bog off way before then!

Not many hills here. We're coastal and quite flat.

Sunny, I use My Fitness Pal to count calories. I'm not sure about running as my knees probably won't be too happy, sadly.

It's all very annoying really. And patience isn't a virtue of mine.

Ladies, repeat after me: "9 months on, 9 months off!"

Seriously, let's let these war wounds heal before we try to get our pre-baby skinny jeans on! Mrsbri, my advice would be buy a pair of jeans a size bigger than your prebaby ones, just give yourself time. I think walking is the best plan now, no trashing recovering bodies.

Personally I've got 3.5kgs to go. My aim is Christmas. I think that's a realistic timeframe.

DontmindifIdo · 18/08/2013 19:10

Oh and mrsbri, hadn't clocked before you're in southport! Is it raining? As a child, my nana would drive us to southport in the school holidays (far classier than Blackpool, which was for common sorts), she didn't believe weather forecasts so normally we'd be sat in the car looking at the beach in the rain eating our sarnies before being driven back again...

curlyclaz13 · 18/08/2013 20:15

I was lucky that I didn't put much weight on and now a a bit lighter than pre pregnancy but I needed to loose weight before. My diet is atrocious, I eat far too many cakes and biscuits for ease but I have bought some healthy cereal and will try to not buy or make as much crap. I need to exercise more but am lazy, I need my bum kicking.

MrsBri · 18/08/2013 20:27

God, 3.5kg is nothing. I've got way more than that to go, but Christmas is my target too. I lost 12kg in 3.5 months the other year, so I know I can do it.

And I think I'm about 2 sizes bigger what with the weight on my thighs and my weird shape now. I can't face buying jeans that big :-/

I was nice and slender before. It's a real mental blow now, as even at my heaviest I wasn't this heavy and I've never looked like this. I'm struggling with it.

And no, no rain here right now. Yesterday was hideouts though! You'd have come on a day like yesterday, no doubt, Dontmind. :-)

OP posts:
MrsBri · 18/08/2013 20:35

Hideous, not hideouts.

AmIGoingMad · 18/08/2013 20:59

I think that losing the weight is a little easier second time around for what it's worth. It has been for me. Last time I needed to but the bigger jeans to see me through but this time I tried my old jeans in to see if I'd need to again but was fine to wear them instead! I think its because the only time I manage to sit down at moment is when I'm feeding dd- I seem to be running around like a crazy person the rest of the time!

AmIGoingMad · 18/08/2013 21:02

Oh and I'm also finding it really difficult to accept the lack of one on one time with DS.

Speaking of one on one time... I'm such an idiot. Got tipsy last night and we dtd for first

AmIGoingMad · 18/08/2013 21:05

Time in months. Then realised I hadn't started taking my pill again yet and we didn't use a condom! Such a fool. Cue shitloads of panicking and a trip to chemist for morning after pill and now stressing and praying that it bloody works. I'm so stupid and have never been so reckless before. My timing is impeccable. To top it all off, I had to be served in pharmacy by a past pupil. What a bloody day!Confused

DontmindifIdo · 18/08/2013 21:18

oh AmIGoingMad - I'm sure it'll be fine. Scary, but unlikely.

Sarah2506 · 18/08/2013 21:29

Oh AmI that's bad but all things considered its unlikely to turn into anything. Is it wrong that the former pupil aspect makes it slightly amusing?!

Wish I only had 3.5kg to lose! Double it and then some! Exactly how many calories does breastfeeding burn a day? Presumably less as she feeds less as time goes on? I'm not eating particularly with weight loss in mind so assume it must be the BFing that helps. I only lose a pound a week so not exactly excessive!

MrsBri · 18/08/2013 21:38

Ooh, AmI. Oops! And I'm sure it'll be fine. And I agree with Sarah re the humour aspect!

And it's apparently 500 calories per day, Sarah.

I'm aiming for 2lbs per week, which means I'm allowed 1200 calories per day, net. It can be a bit grim!

OP posts:
Sarah2506 · 18/08/2013 22:20

I'd find that pretty impossible! Could you consider the five two thing everyone else seems to

Sarah2506 · 18/08/2013 22:20

Should say everyone else seems to be doing!

DontmindifIdo · 19/08/2013 02:21

Sarah, it's between 200-600 calories a day. For the first 6 months it gradually increases, then drops off once they are weaned.

All my extra weight is on my tummy - not a good look. Hmm

MrsBri · 19/08/2013 04:16

I think I'd f

OP posts:
pinkapples · 19/08/2013 04:30

Awww mrsbri I am also struggling I wasn't exactly twiggy before but everything seems bigger now and a lot more wobbly... Not cool I'm up 2 dress sizes too but hoping to lose by Christmas so fingers crossed now the christening is done (everything went well and Theiah was a little star) I can start to eat right x

MrsBri · 19/08/2013 04:32

Oops...I think I'd find that worse as the fasting days you're only allowed 600-700 calories. I'm not sure how sustainable that is. And any less than 1000 net and your body actually goes into starvation mode. I think the weight loss on that diet may be harder to keep off.

If you do enough exercise in a day you actually get to eat relatively normally (for us); it's just that I have to pay more attention to portion size of pasta / rice / potatoes etc. My snacks are usually fruit too.

After yesterday's half hour walk and 15 mins on the cross trainer I consumed about 1050 net calories and ate a full dinner which is the meal I don't cut too drastically else I wouldn't sleep!

If I had scales I could say if it's working, but I don't. I assume it will be though.

My tummy is round, but it's not fat, it's how my muscles have split and formed. I'm hoping as I exercise that these tone up and go back together else there's no hope!

Tummy fat shouldn't be too hard to lose if you're careful, Dontmind. I really recommend My Fitness Pal for calorie control.

We just tried a food mugging on Amy. Now she can 'talk' she wakes us up by talking to herself about being hungry! We got her up, fed her and changed her in 18 minutes before putting her back in bed. We just had to get her up to wind her, but it's all been much calmer and quicker than normal. We didn't put any lights on in the rooms we were in either.

5.5 hours' sleep, give or take, prior to feed. See how we go now :-)

Back to sleep for me.

Hi everyone
Sorry not been on for few days not had an easy week.
Ds has decided he no longer wants to be breast fed (AmI as you saw on other thread). He is just point blank refusing to even try latching on.
Taking bottle no problem thankfully so now having to try get my head around formula, bottles, sterilising etc way quicker than planned. Formula terrifies me as I have no idea what I'm doing with it. In exchange for all this extra work I also have incredibly painful breasts. I have been trying to express but just don't have enough time in the day to so it enough, and I'm starting to get very little out so not sure how I go about letting them dry up without causing mastitis or blocked duct.
If I'm not breastfeeding I'll now need to start watching what I eat. But at least dh can look after him while I do some exercise! Got a wedding in October so that's some motivation, and on the plus side I don't need to wear a nursing friendly top/dress. I'm absolutely gutted though, as I was really enjoy breastfeeding and hoped to do it longer. I hadn't budgeted for milk either so better start cutting back on treats now.
Sorry for epic post!

Sarah2506 · 19/08/2013 08:12

Ah yes I see its about 25 calories per ounce, and they can get through 25 ounces a day. That's a gym session everyday.

I don't think I would hack the five two thing. It's crazy isn't it. Loosing weight is the easiest thing ever in theory , move more, eat less. Hardest thing in reality! My friend was a perfect size ten and only wore tailored fitted stuff beforehand. She's never got back in her wardrobe. My clothes are mainly forgiving jersey dresses so I can get back in those with the stretch.

Magical sleeping baby has just slept seven till eight waking only at five. I however woke at two and didn't really get back to sleep before feeding her, and certainly didn't after just cos she grunts in her sleep. The noise is awful!

SunnyL · 19/08/2013 08:39

Arg. My lovely sleeper disappeared last night. She wokea 2, 4, 6 and 8. Not sure why - we were out and about lots yesterday so maybe she didnt get enoigh to eat?

On the weight thing as i say i'm doing weight watchers and it really works for me so long as i'm honest. We had our NCT reunion bbq yesterday so stuffed my face so will need to behave for the next few days. The amount you can eat when breast feeding and still lose weight is astonishing though. I did buy bigger jeans after the birth but i'm now holding them up with a belt.

MadameJ · 19/08/2013 09:11

Ah littlemiss thats awful I hope you feel better about it soon!

Well my sleeping baby sleeps wonderfully when we have being out all day and she has poor naps but boy is she grumpy beforehand!!
