Any clue on why Theiah has started screaming the last couple of days? She is still drinking most of her bottles and sleeping fine but every now and again has a screaming fit and I have to rock her to sleep. It's like she's fighting sleep she calms after about 10 mins but no clue y??

curlyclaz13 · 05/10/2013 22:01

No idea pinkapples but Oscar does the same, fell asleep after a feed while out then woke when we tried to put his coat on and screamed like we were torturing him Blush he has done it a few times for no obvious reason. I guess they are just finding their voices ?

curlyclaz13 · 06/10/2013 11:10

I love weekends, OH is dealing with a 5 day poo while I fuss the cat, drink coffee & laugh at the running commentary. Oscar seems to be saving them up Grin

Mrs81 · 06/10/2013 17:33

I'm slightly in awe of all these babies who go days without a poo. We're still on 4-6/day here! Anything over 12hrs results in full deep-clean operations.

RueDeWakening · 06/10/2013 18:10

I swear it shouldn't be possible for a small boy to produce such vast quantities of sick! Last nights feed at midnight ish, resulted in me having to change everything on me including bra, and towel down. M needed new babygro and sleeping bag, and needed a wipe down too as he was so soggy.

Thing is, I'm sure more came out than went in. How is that even possible?! Answers on a postcard...

Mrs81 · 06/10/2013 18:52

Mmmm. Bra puke. Nice Confused
No answer re the puke factory though. It often puzzles me...

rrreow · 06/10/2013 22:24

Me and Z needed a change of clothes too yesterday when he threw up a whole feed. Who knew 4 minutes was that much liquid. He occasionally coughs after a feed, triggers his gag reflex and out comes the whole feed. I also get puke in my cleavage a LOT whenever he's in the sling.

We've got an Antilop highchair as well, except right now DS1 is still using it and we don't have chairs that are suitable for a booster seat. So we need to sort out our chair situation so that Z can sit in the high chair (I do hope DS1 will be willing to give it up.. Hmm). We'll be waiting till 6 months to introduce solids, going BLW route as I'm too lazy for anything else and I cook dinner for all of us every night anyway. But do want him to be sitting in the highchair well before then just so he feels part of the family meal (he's getting more and more grumpy at not being with us for mealtimes, so ends up sitting on DH's lap often unless he's asleep).

curlyclaz13 · 06/10/2013 22:56

At what point can they go in a high chair ? Osk sits on OH's lap nearly every dinner time unless I have to feed him so I think he would like to sit with us.

Olimoss · 07/10/2013 09:47

Joe's been in a high chair last couple days when we have been out - wedged in with a bit of muslin. He loved it!

pinkbear82 · 07/10/2013 10:08

We were very lucky and my gran brought Violet a stokke (sp?) trip trap high chair, with the newborn seat attachment as well, so she has been able to sit at the table with us from early on. She also likes to sit in it while I'm in the kitchen doing bits and bobs too. Think by Christmas she'll be able to go into the proper high hair part of it.

No full on rolls here be lots of attempts to sit up. Looks like she's doing sit ups a lot of the time.

And we are still a million poos a day, I'd not know what to do if that changed!

Got to go sort the front room, left the dogs unattended while dressing dd and returned to find it looks like a snow scene with cushion stuffing everywhere. bloody older dog is just as bad as the puppyConfused someone remind me they grow out of this phase......

Sarah2506 · 07/10/2013 12:37

Help me help me help me. We have a wedding at the weekend. I have nothing to wear. I need BF access. My nursing dresses are completely skanky. I'm too fat for my previous wardrobe. I need something decent with boob access. Where where where does this elusive dress live?!

rrreow · 07/10/2013 15:15

Not a dress Sarah, a smart skirt, black vest top and a nice wraparound top or button down top. And it has non-wedding re-wear potential as well.

I don't know what to do with Z's sleep. Once the newborn phase wore off we had 1-2 night feeds. Around the 3 month mark this slowly crept up to a consistent 3, and this past week we've had 4 wakings/feeds a couple of times. He has a cold so that might contribute to it, and I know this is the whole 4 month sleep regression, but how do I encourage him to take up better habits again? I read sleep regression usually lasts 3-4 weeks, but it seems to be getting worse, not better.

I remember with DS1 this happened too and it slowly spiralled out of control until at about 6-8mo he was waking EVERY HOUR for comfort feeds to get himself back to sleep. I desperately want to avoid that situation but I am not sure how! At this point Z is definitely taking a proper feed during those wakings (and he doesn't want to feed more during the day, I give him plenty of opportunities but he just doesn't take the boob for very long). HELP?!!!

SunnyL · 07/10/2013 15:25

Owwwwwww. Now I know why babies are called little nippers. Least it's not my nipple this time though.

Sarah I went to a wedding 4 weeks after. I wore an empire line nursing dress I made. I've also made wrap dresses for nursing in. Both are v good. I did look at buying dresses but the nice ones were upwards of £80 quid and my inner tight wad refused to pay that for a dress I can only wear when breast feeding.

I'm off out tonight to a Royal Reception at Holyrood Palace with Princess Anne. I feel I am well prepared by having been awake since 3am, finding all my posh frocks bar one are dirty and too big and finally have forgotten to buy tights. Bet I'll look fabulous!

Sarah2506 · 07/10/2013 16:42

Sunny could you make me a dress please? By Saturday? Thanks ever so much:-)

curlyclaz13 · 07/10/2013 16:52

oooh get you and your Royal friends Sunny ! hope you have a great time !

RueDeWakening · 07/10/2013 19:31

Rrreow - how do you feel about dummies? Might be worth a try, it sounds like he's comfort sucking.

AlohaMama · 07/10/2013 20:04

Have fun Sunny, sounds very fancy!!

rrreow, that does not sound like fun. I have been using a dummy for that exact purpose. I realised dd was waking at 2am from habit and not need, and gave her the dummy and she went back to sleep pretty quick. After a few nights she stopped waking at 2am. Hope you find something to help as waking up 4 times a night does not sound like fun, and if they've been going longer between night feeds before it does sound like it might be habit rather than hunger.

Anyone else finding these little babies have a ridiculously strong grip? Am now remembering why I spent time when ds was young with my hair tied back. Trying to pry open those little fingers when they're grabbing on to your hair is nearly impossible. Also trying to get her undressed as she just holds on tight to her sleeves.

Looking forward to going out tomorrow night for dinner with dh. First time in ages. Now dd is consistent with her bedtime and I know she doesn't need to feed in the evenings it just makes it a whole lot easier to ask the grandparents to baby sit. Can't wait!

Olimoss · 07/10/2013 21:01

You know those poonamis which break the sacred nappy seal? I'm calling those Number 3s.

MrsBri · 07/10/2013 21:39

Enjoy your meal, Aloha. Sounds lovely :-)

Sarah, I hope you find a dress to wear. How's the flat sale / house purchase going?

Amy tested her swim nappy to destruction today. It was a 15 wipe effort. Nice.

She's much calmer on the new milk. It's fantastic for all of us. This morning we all stayed in bed until gone 10 after a 7.00am feed. It was lovely. :-)

OP posts:
Sarah2506 · 07/10/2013 22:15

We moved the pickle into her big girl bed last night. She's too big for the babybay, too small for the big girl cot bed in the spare room and the travel cot isn't really great long term. So we moved the cot bed into our room. Predictably we had a burst seem nappy this morning as well to christen the bed!

Her sleep has been a bit erratic. Extra waking a lot. Generally it does pass and she goes back to sleep but I do feed her if it continues. Which is so much more hassle when she's not next to me in bed.

On the 15 wipe effort I cannot recommend cheeky wipes enough. Reusable baby wipes. Don't add much to washing and I reckon have paid for themselves several times over so far.

I do like the top skirt combo idea. Just don't know where to start!

SunnyL · 08/10/2013 08:09

Sarah are you of the curvy persuasion? If so Pepperberry have some niceish wrap dresses. I bought a cheap vest in Asda and cut nipple slits in it to make a cheap nursing dress recently. £1.50 for a vest!

My Royal knees up was fun. I forgot to curtsey but was introduced to Princess Anne for a 30 second chat. Although it seems no one warned the Palace of my dairy free diet as all the canapes had cheese.

hedgehogy · 08/10/2013 10:58

Sarah, I went to a wedding recently. I didn't buy a special dress in the end as I couldn't justify the cost for something I wouldn't wear again; I wore a dress I already owned, with a neckline that is straight across and just above my chest. I could pull the dress down under my boobs - I used a wrap/shawl type thing to cover up.

DD seems to be going through the 4 month regression too. She's gone from sleeping through the night to waking up at around 3 or 4am. Sigh. She doesn't seem particularly hungry, I think she just wants comforting. She won't take a dummy. If I were to do this again I'd definitely invest in a bed nest type thing as I won't co-sleep in our bed (my friends did and I can see why, but I don't want to risk it).

Aloha, I'm having the same problems with strong grip. It's tough trying to get my hair out of her fingers, and dressing her too. Enjoy your meal.

So the swim nappies do work then, mrsbri?! It's always a worry - we've invested in a happy nappy for extra protection but she hasn't gone during swimming so far! Excellent about the new milk.

rrreow · 08/10/2013 11:12

So good to hear about the milk MrsBri. I bet that makes it a lot easier to enjoy Amy.

OMG LIE INS TILL 10?!!! I don't think we'll have any of those until the babies are teenagers. Grin

I also second the recommendation for Cheeky Wipes. SO much easier to clean up a pooey bum with. They really come into their own once you start weaning and encounter this thing called 'weetabix poo'. Disposable wipes just move the poo around.

I tried a dummy on Z last night, but he wouldn't take it Sad we kind of had 2 wakeups, but that was because the 1st one was before I'd fallen asleep (12am), then 5am and 7am, so I guess technically it was still 3.

Then this morning I fed him around 9.30am and he threw up his whole feed. It was scary because I'd been feeding him lying down in the bed and it was SO much milk and I really worried he was choking. It went all over his face, in his eyes. I was a bit shaken but he was fine right after, didn't even cry. Lots of laundry to do now though! Thankfully I had one of those bedwetting mats under the bedsheet, so the mattress didn't get soaked.

Mrs81 · 08/10/2013 11:51

Rrreow - full return-to-sender pukes are quite shocking aren't they? When DS has one he also barely bats an eyelid (but I do!!)

Mrsbri - so glad the new milk is going down well. Is the ranitadine helping too?

We use reuseable wipes too (unless out and about) and they're fab. Ikea sells packs of face cloths for pennies - we use them and a bowl of water. Job done Smile

MrsBri · 08/10/2013 14:17

Hedgehogy, I don't think the swim nappy alone would have been enough. We have to 'double bag' with a neoprene over nappy. It was this which held it in, I think!

And yes, rrreow, we are all more relaxed and Amy is far more playful too. Feeding had become such a dreaded, tense affair that everybody detested. It's so much better now :-)

Mrs, I think the renatidine is helping. It didn't on its own, but in combination it all seems to be going ok!

And that must have been scary after Z's feed. I'm glad everything was ok. Babies do take things in their stride. I slipped on the slope in the pool yesterday and dunked Amy in without warning. She didn't care though. I was the only one panicking!
