That sounds great Aloha ! hope you get some help with your tidying Grin

hedgehogy · 03/10/2013 09:22

Mrs81 and Curly, I was very stressed as we had an event to attend. Unbelievably, it arrived an hour before we had to leave - thank goodness! It was massive, but luckily she was sat upright at the time, so it was contained (a good job as she had her outfit on!).

I know paracetamol and ibuprofen are ok while breastfeeding (as I took them after my c-section), but I'm not sure about specific cold remedies, mrs81. I hope you feel better soon.

kittencuddles · 03/10/2013 09:42

Hi ladies, I know it's a bit late but can I join? My DD was due in May but born in June so I was originally on the May thread, floated off it and never found my way here.

MrsBri · 03/10/2013 10:10

Grrrr...lost a long message earlier.

Sorry for all those with disturbed sleep still and yay for babies getting to grips with sleep now.

Long story short now. We ended up in A&E yesterday due to Amy's blood curdling scream bottle refusals, concerned about why she was screaming and the potential for dehydration.

Upshot is that the reflux meds have been changed to renatidine (sp). And if no improvement in 24-48 hours we change to lactose free formula. She doesn't have the typical symptoms, but DH's siblings all has intolerance so the doctor thinks it's possible.

The doctor was awesome and lovely. :-)

We did well for sleep yesterday. Feeds at 10, 2 and then 7. I can cope with that! It'll be better when she's not battling too.

Oh, and welcome kitten!

Paracetamol works wonders (thankfully) as I'm seriously considering a name change to Mrs Snot.

Mrsbri - we're on ranitadine here too. Hope you have some joy with it; its miserable listening to their cries. If you weren't given any, the chemist sells tiny syringes (1ml) which are good for scooshing it in.

MrsBri · 03/10/2013 12:03

We we given a free syringe at a baby show at the weekend if it doesn't have one. It's being delivered this afternoon. I have my fingers crossed.

How quickly did you see results?

I'm glad the paracetamol is working!

curlyclaz13 · 03/10/2013 12:26

MrsBri that sounds scary hope the medicine works asap.

Mrs81 · 03/10/2013 13:20

Within a few days I think. He's been on it for c2 months and is on max dose now. It reduced the screaming, but not the puking (dairy/soya free has helped that a bit though). We're back to see GP next week and she's prob going to change him on to omeprazole.

In the meantime ds has only gained 2oz in two weeks and has slipped further down charts (despite less puking). Please can someone knock some sense into me and remind me that ebf is fine etc etc???

hedgehogy · 03/10/2013 14:16

Oh gosh, I hope Amy improves soon, mrsbri.

Ebf is definitely fine, mrs81. How old is your ds and did the HV offer any advice (were they concerned?)? DD is 4 months now, ebf and still following the 91st percentile line. She is quite sick some mornings but then she also went through a growth spurt with lots of feeding a couple of weeks ago which may have balanced it out. She did lose weight in the early days so I know how worrying it is.

Hello kitten.

Mrs81 · 03/10/2013 14:23

He's 16w today. He was on 50th at birth, now bang on 9th. HV said "that's not great is it" (errr, no) and that was that. The gp is bloody brilliant thankfully and very paeds focused so I think they're taking their lead from her. But its hard to stay clear-minded about it sometimes...

Mrs81 · 03/10/2013 14:23

ps- hello kitten Smile

Littlemissexpecting · 03/10/2013 17:29

Welcome Kitten Smile

pinkapples · 03/10/2013 20:19

Welcome kitten

Theiah is 16 weeks today!

At what point do we think we will stop saying weeks and convert it to months?

RueDeWakening · 03/10/2013 20:59

Welcome kitten!

M is (I think) 20 weeks old, but he's definitely 5 months old week after next! So I've already converted, basically, pink :o

AlohaMama · 03/10/2013 21:51

Ooooh I think months. Mainly cos I can't remember how many weeks bad mummy

Welcome kitten!

Just to say...the evenings I love the best are those that involve 2 hours of trying to get your toddler to stay in bed, and the utter helpless feeling when no amount of reward/bribery/punishment achieves that aim. In contrast, the 4 month old is in her basket sleeping like a dream.

Olimoss · 04/10/2013 00:58

Aloha - I've stopped remembering weeks too. J turned 4 months on 29th Sept so I'm counting months from hereon in!

Mrs Bri - J also had Ranitidine as part of his medication regime post-surgery, etc, and it def helps. I still carry a few syringes of it around in case he gets reflux. Hope it helps....

We've all sorts of rolling from back to side going on here, flood-like levels of drool, seriously heavy duty hand-munching and a fairly never-ending supply of smiles so things mostly good. He's totally mental for his twice-daiy tasters of fruit/veg and spent ten mins the other day munging on a wedge of apple. He made nary a dent in it with his toothless gums but seemed very happy.

Two massive shit-blowouts have been less fun. I had to cut his singlet off him as it was so loaded up with crapmi daren't try get it off over his head. Not classy.

Right we are up for a jaunt through Darlinghurst for a coffee and then into Sydney ... Hope all aces in Engerland....

curlyclaz13 · 04/10/2013 07:38

lovely poo story oli ! can you not pull his vest down if that happens again ? I know the vests I have for oscar have an overlap at the neck so they can be pulled down after such incidents.

MrsBri · 04/10/2013 12:19

Hmmm...the ranitidine smells horrible and she clearly hates it as she spits it out (she swallows the sugary lactulose and Calpol just fine). Any administration tips?

We've just had a 3 day poonami. God knows how horrendous an 8 day one is as this had volume and smelt awful.

We made a judgment call today and gave her the lactose free formula as we don't believe acid reflux causes the digestive discomfort she's been suffering. She took 5oz without refusal / screaming so we are hoping that lasts.

I now have a face down monkey asleep on me.

And YY to pulling the vest down rather than up when it's full of poo!

OP posts:
Mrs81 · 04/10/2013 12:46

Its wiffy isn't it. I almost added a ps about that! Sproglet pulled big faces (and spat most of it out) initially too.

What dosage are you doing? We were started on 0.33ml (x3) which is such a silly amount. I quietly aimed above at 0.4ml on the basis that it didn't all go down. Also, aiming for the side of the mouth and towards the back and squirting slowly all helped here. Now he takes 1ml at a time, rarely dribbles it out again and often smiles at me whilst I squirt Hmm

Mrs81 · 04/10/2013 12:50

And that's fab that the new formula went down well Mrsbri.

MrsBri · 04/10/2013 13:08

We are on 0.5 ml. Hopefully she will get used to it soon too!

And we've just got some wraparound vests in the sale from M&S. But the others pull down perfectly well enough, thank god.

OP posts:
hedgehogy · 04/10/2013 13:19

I'm glad you've got a good GP mrs81, and I hope they can help.

I probably wouldn't be bf if it wasn't for the amazing midwives here who were incredibly supportive and helpful; good healthcare staff make such a difference.

I'm saying her age in months now DD is 4 months. I'm still remembering the weeks though.

3 day poos are horrendous here too so I was dreading its arrival! It wasn't too much worse; as well as being upright at the time she's also in size 4 nappies now which hold more. It could have been so much worse! Though I miss the days of a little amount in every nappy - much less worry then.

Great news about the new formula.

hedgehogy · 04/10/2013 13:21

Why aren't nappies elasticated around the waistband? The only time we have a disaster is when DD is lying down and it comes out of the top of the nappy.

rrreow · 04/10/2013 14:05

2 part reusable nappies Bomb proof when it comes to poo Grin Although obviously what you save in washing poo stained clothing you add in washing nappies Hmm

We have a creaky/squeaky door which sounds like a baby/child wailing in pain. It catches me out every time, must remember to oil it soon.
