Welcome back Kristy and congrats to you too

On holiday in Somerset at the moment, and had a day out today over lady g's way at Noah's ark zoo farm. We had such a brilliant day, there was loads to do there and as it was term time it wasn't busy either Grin

Now exhausted but looking forward to the start of strictly!

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 27/09/2013 20:41

Congratulations! !

LadyGoodman · 27/09/2013 20:46

Faffin welcome to the west country how was Noah's ark? Dh refuses to go as its run by creationists who he says have no place in a conservation/educational setting.

Congrats xiao love the name

Faffin · 27/09/2013 20:54

I'm a staunch atheist and could have done without the random biblical references and quotations which were on posters etc. in a couple of places Confused, but other than that it was brilliant. Loads of play areas indoors and outdoors, trampolines, a welly splash area which DS was magnetically drawn to, tractor ride, good talks - we went to meercat feeding (with live crickets and meal worms for the DC's to throw in), and feeding baby goats with milk from a bottle. Good sized enclosures and animals well looked after. Wait a while longer and the elephants will have arrived too!

SevenOnwardsAndUpwards · 27/09/2013 21:36

Congratulations xiao what a great name, welcome to the thread Baby Giles :)

Congratulations xiao -lovely news and hope you are all your family are doing well.

congrats to kir5ty too - hope you are feeling ok.

Just been enjoying a dose of Strictly - pretty good for the first week I thought.

We ve had a pretty good week - DS is a bit tired and grumpy after school (yr 1 is a big step up from Reception in terms of work and expectations but he is doing really well) and after a grumpy monday and tues Freya appears to have become a temporary delight! Lots of talking, laughing and decent nights - helped by virtually dropping the day time sleep.

I am currently reading Raising your spirited child! I bought it to help with Freya and she ticks an awful lot of the description boxes and made me realise DS ticks a fair few too. It is good - helping me to look at her traits in a positive manner and trying to find strategies that suit her.eg - I have always tried and failed to ignore her tantrums but actually the books points out that with a spirited child that is not the best method as they can and will cry for an hour or more if their needs are not met so I am trying to learn new strategies.

Any exciting weekend plans anyone?

NorthernChinchilla · 27/09/2013 22:50

Ooooh, pictures, pictures! Welcome Giles, you're already a very lucky little boy, and I hope that all was calm and wonderful for Mr & Mrs Xiao throughout the birth. Keep up the paracetemol and ibuprofen for the next week or so and you'll be fine Smile

And welcome back Kri5ty, and congratulations to you too- this is a rather eventful Friday!

(For our part DP got his letter confirming his interview for the promotion, and 'our' house has been marked up as sold on Rightmove, so we can move onto the size 0.2 pompoms Grin)

aethel, what's happened? Am not on FB, so don't know what's befallen you/the DCs?!

Am having a wonderful weekend- after two weeks of having to work a full Saturday, and a week away from home, the family and I are doing naff all, barring I'll make some soup. Joy

mopsytop · 27/09/2013 23:59

Oooohhhhh massive congrats xiao... yay! Hope you're doing well and not too tired!

Welcome back kri5ty

ChipAndSpud · 28/09/2013 06:47

Eek! Congratulations Xiao what great news! Flowers

Welcome back Kri5ty and congratulations to you too!

Gosh everyone is pregnant :) my two 'mum' friends in real life are pregnant too, one is 14 weeks and the other is 38 weeks, can't wait to have cuddles with their newborns :)

I've lost my last P plate on the car now, the front one flew off in the wind on week one as I was driving at 40mph, and I had to take the back one off last night! I went to Tesco to do a food shop, came out and some (I presume) teenage chav had written "prick" on my P plate :( I suppose it does look bad on an Audi but it's not my car and I'm far from 17 years old so there's no need to be jealous! Still, I think I'm ready to drive without P plates now!

PerilousStiletto · 28/09/2013 07:43

Ssssh! The Boi is still in bed. I can hear him stirring, but 7:30!!!! This is unheard of! And he went to bed at 7:20!!!!
Xiao - how was DH? Hope he was calm and happy and could enjoy the birth. (As much as you can "enjoy" a cs.)
We have nothing planned this weekend. Apart from tidying the garden and doing a mountain of ironing. - ooh strictly - it was good wasn't it? Grin
I'm in reality heaven. We even watched X factor USA last night. I know I should be ashamed.

Boi was playing with his teddies! This is major progress. When he wakes, he cries for "Ammy", he has never played contentedly. I had to go and disturb him. I wanted breakfast. Smile
DH is working today.

Welcome to the world little Giles. Smile

I too loved Strictly. The standard was pretty high last night. Can't wait to see if the theme tune still has the same mesmerising effect on ds. Last year he would literally stop whatever he was doing and gaze adoringly at the sequins. And then revert back to whatever he was doing when Brucie appeared. OMG just realised I used to have a pause button Wink

The larger nappies appear to have done the trick (either that or he pooped and peed so well on thursday he was simply empty yesterday)

We're only getting up now, but last night was the worst I can remember. DS went to bed reasonably happily at about 7.30. Woke at 11ish. Dh went to him as normal, changed his nappy, gave him a cuddle, calmed him down etc. But when he left the room a tantrum commenced.

Anyone else had this? Full on tantrum, throwing himself aroumd his cot, sticking his arms up then ducking out of the way when you try to pick him up.

I tried being calm, telling him it was time to sleep, offering the simple choice of a cuddle in the chair or lyinig down in bed.

I ended up sat on the floor sobbing myself. Which stopped him momentarily. But then he started screaming again. I was with him until

  1. Then we had to swap as dd wanted a feed.

No idea how long dh was with him, but he woke again at 5. dh bought him in with us (we are going to need a king sized bed!) and he was still screaming. Sad dh kept saying he was going to put him back in his cot but not actually doing it so I said we needed to just disengage which did work I guess, but took forever and no doubt woke all the neighbours.

I'm not even sure what I'm asking really. Just tell me this is going to get better? I never for one second thought the 21mo would be more disruptive than the 7wo Confused

Kri5ty · 28/09/2013 11:18

Congrats, and what a lovely name!!

I'm so confused now, as to who is who lol
(i need your fb photos lol)

THE crappiest day in work today- the general public are thick!

PerilousStiletto · 28/09/2013 12:20

Kat - "anyone else had this?" You ask. Like yeah! Boi has had the cot tantrum thing going on for a while!
I think it's a rite of passage and lasts until they're 18. ConfusedActually, I'm hoping we're over this now. We had some rough nights over the last month. I think he's found the habit of sleeping again now. We're all much happier!

While out today I heard a lady calling after a little boy of about 7 called........giles!! How strange I don't think I've ever heard it with a child before.

Kristy I saw ur fb post about no hot drinks that really was a blazing example of customer stupidity Grin

Kri5ty · 28/09/2013 13:32

Kat- you're doing well, i would still be sobbing now!

Right i need a catch up from name changes (my own fault for being AWOL for so long!)
