What does your DH do?

LadyGoodman · 24/09/2013 19:56

Peril hes a Self employed Financial Paraplanner but hates it wants out of industry but can't afford pay cut it would mean to start again. Due to things outside of his control he's gone from earning £2-3k a month to scraping £1k together if he goes back to work he's got steady wage but then a commute, DS will have to go CM an extra day and longer days so it's all a balance. Thank god for my promotion in April or we'd be sunk by now.

Aethelfleda · 24/09/2013 21:07

Ps octo, we have a cheap ipad game called Where's my Water. It's Disney (shudder) but is themed around a croc with bathcap trying to have a bath. You dig holes to get croc his water. Has a nice earworm jaunty tune. I'm also told Tozzle is a good one for tinies.

I feel for your DH lady, the world of self-employment is complicated and with less safetynet. Hope things improve soon...

And queenie, you'd better be off that dodgy ankle....no cleaning the cooker on the sly!

QueenofClean · 24/09/2013 21:27

Figgy..hope DH is okay and you keep things on an even keel to stay above water.

Oi sounds like a good holiday.

iPad games are mainly Elmo's abcs & Elmo's 123's. Jack and the beanstalk and Pooh's birthday.

Aethel I had to hobble walk to school this morning for school run as DH went back to work. My foot hurts and is still massive. Hard to be off your feet when you have a toddler running around. However, she is at nursery in morning so will be peaceful will also drive to school as got appt with GP first thing and won't be able to hobble walk that far.

Should I be off my foot permanently till swelling goes down? Or should I try and walk around weight bearing as much as possible?

My bean was a superstar tonight singing at The Spinnaker Tower in Gunwharf Quays so proud of her x

mopsytop · 24/09/2013 21:33

Thanks for gin aethel. Bloody need it. Just off to bed for another 6am start (got home at 19.40... these long days plus M1 commute are a killer). Sorry haven't had time to catch up or post properly...

NorthernChinchilla · 24/09/2013 21:44

That's really shit for you, sorry LadyG. If his skills are in demand, then looking locally will only reduce, not wipe out his options- I'm sure he'll find something. If you were in the Highlands it might be an issue, but not round where you are. Delighted to hear he's got another appointment with a proper specialist, and hope that he can get a clear diagnosis and treatment.
I know you ruled out asking your family for money, but would you do it for a bit of short-term help?

That's a difficult one Peril; whilst there's nothing wrong with a discreet perve (ahem!) and we've all done it, I know a colleague said to me she knew her first marriage was over when she was thinking about another bloke all the time, even though she would never even begin to act on it. Tricky one.

We're still in negotiations for the house, have upped the offer slightly and hope to hear back tomorrow. The same EA is doing the sales for both our vendor and the people they're buying from, so should cut down on a bit of the crap. Encouragingly they called us to update us.
Even better, Mrs Vendor (as it were) was in the EAs yesterday and apparently commented about how DS looked like he was really settled in the place already, which I take as a good sign Smile

Any news from Xiao, I get worried when it goes quiet!

NorthernChinchilla · 24/09/2013 21:45

Sympathies mopsy, I know how you feel, bed for me too in 15. It's just so sex, drugs n rock 'n' roll at the moment isn't it....?

QueenofClean · 25/09/2013 06:56

Northern FX about the house.

Mopsy hope your feeling better today,

My foot this morning doesn't hurt so much so going to try walking on it as normal today and see if that is alright.

Got docs this morning about asking for hysterectomy. Wish me luck.

thekatsatonthematt · 25/09/2013 08:17

Just to say Xiou pm'd me yesterday (I finally got my finger out and posted her the nappies!) at about 10ish. She has her preop today. Must be so strange to know what day the baby will arrive!

OctopusWrangler · 25/09/2013 09:25

Luck for you today Queenie

Hoping the prep goes smoothly Xiao

:)

QueenofClean · 25/09/2013 09:41

Well back from docs. He agrees hysterectomy is the best thing for me however, I need to do step 3 before he can refer me and that is have a mirena coil fitted for 6 months to see if that helps me, but as hormone based he agreed is not a good thing but I have to have it so the gynae's can see I have tried everything and they can't really refuse me then. So booked in for 9 Oct. Also found out my GP is retiring in January :( He knows everything about me so will be difficult talking to another doc who knows nothing about me or my medical history.

Anyway, I can walk on my foot a lot better today.

Going to enjoy the couple of hrs peace until Sky finishes nursery at 1.

Xiaoxiong · 25/09/2013 14:51

All well here, just finished my pre-op morning at the hospital today and all on track for Friday. I did have a bit of a worry about whether to accept the pre-term steroid injections to help the baby's lungs - this is the kind of thing I always always talk through with DH first but I didn't know I was going to have to decide and he was teaching so couldn't get hold of him.

Thanks to the magic of wifi I managed to download the guidelines from NICE and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and read the info on my iPhone while I was waiting for the consultant - so then I felt much more informed and in control! What did people do before iPhones and the like Grin

BUT then I had to have a really bloody painful steroid jab right in my bum and another one tomorrow, so maybe ignorance is bliss after all Hmm

On Friday I can't eat or drink anything (even water) after 6am and I have to remove all jewellery, nail polish, fine fine, but also I have to arrive having had a FULL brazilian. This point was emphasised first by the midwife and student and then again by the registrar. Given that I have not been able to see or reach down there for a good six months that will be...interesting Grin

Sorry no namechecks as on my phone but will catch up on the thread this afternoon while folding fluffy little newborn nappies received from our most generous kat, hope everyone's doing ok and queen's foot isn't broken x

PerilousStiletto · 25/09/2013 16:11

Full Brazilian - ha ha ha ha ha! Good luck!
Sorry - that's not v sympathetic, is it? I just remember my good intentions about being v tidy downstairs going to pot. And not being able to see - and barely reach! - down there at the end.
I use the Venus trimmer strimmer thingy. It gets v v v close, and is safer than a blade... Enlist DH for extra romance. Ahem!Shock

Hiya all. Wow xiao that reminds me of the urban myth story of a punk who dyed her ladygarden green and had a tattoo nearby reading "keep off the grass". When she needed her appendix out the surgeon read the tattoo, operated, then wrote next to it in surgical marker "sorry love, I had to trim the lawn"....

DDs are rapt watching The Sarah Jane Adventures. My kids are great :)

LadyGoodman · 25/09/2013 19:42

Full brazilian for a C section? I don't get it?? Why

Dh gone to see a friend tonight DS in bed so ready for crap US tv catch up yay me time!!

Hello. Super tired again and minim bawling her face off but no idea why Sad poor bean. Mr.Mopsy cuddling her. I'm about to hit the sack and pray she isn't up all night. I'm getting more and more exhausted. This is bad as I start lecturing next week ... need to be on the ball. Drove yest and today but getting train tomo as so tired.

In other news, minim sat on her potty and did a wee this evening! I couldn't believe it as I've made zero steps twds potty training apart from buying a potty and leaving it in her room ... I guess she's watching the other kids at nursery. She said wee wee too. She was so thrilled with herself, it was v cute. I can't believe I'm posting this. I swore before having her I would do boring potty related posts. I mean, seriously, who could possibly care except for me! Sorry all. Blush

xiao ooooh nearly there woot

Oi glad your holibobs were fun!

aethel hope work is going well and colleagues are nice. Are you in one place or different places?

figgy seriously me and TV sounds like heaven. Or just bed actually. This transition to full time work plus commute is really so much harder than I was expecting and I was expecting it to be hard. But you're going through a tough time right now. I hope sth turns up job wise for your husband.

Queen hope foot continues to improve.

Northern any house news? Has it progressed today?

Sorry to everyone I haven't responded to. Hope all well.

Wine Wine Wine Wine Wine Biscuit Biscuit Biscuit Biscuit Biscuit

That's what I'd like. Instead bed..Fingers crossed minim goes back down.

mopsytop · 25/09/2013 21:41

I mean I WOULDN'T do boring potty related posts..sorry Blush

OctopusWrangler · 25/09/2013 21:56

Senior school tour one of four complete. My feet hurt and my arms are falling off. This is what happens when you forget that schools have stairs and don't take a sling or a carrier! She wasn't impressed either which makes it all the more irritating. Also gutting to see I was one of only two single parents slogging around with too many kids and not enough limbs. Great ego dump:(

Onwards though. Next week we'll take the connecta and hope for better organisation.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 26/09/2013 10:04

Right!

Good luck tomorrow Xiao Bit baffled as to why you would need to have a brazillian?

Octo think of the workout though! Sorry she didn't like it, better luck at next one.

Mopsy fingers crossed for more sleep and for potty usage.

Sorry things are so grim at the minute LadyG hope things start looking up for you soon. You've had more than your share of bad luck recently.

Queen rest your foot please. Put down the duster and watch crap TV.

Yeay for lovely holibobs and not throttling DH Oi The pictures are lovely, can't get over how grown up bOi looks now. I keep getting notifications about the yummy mummies nights but I keep forgetting. Must meet up soon and let the boys cause chaos somewhere.

We also have potty usage here. He's very good at saying when he's about to do a poo or a wee, and comes over to be changed after a poo (usually), but hasn't got the concept of going to do it on the potty yet. I'm too lazy to start potty training this early. He uses the toilet (big one, not the potty) before the bath each night - he loves doing it and you can see him straining to have a wee even if he doesn't need one. Trying not to encourage this as can't be good for him bladder?

We've got teefs coming through and he is not happy about it. HOWEVER he has clicked that saying 'hurt' while pointing at his teeth normally means I give him anbesol or calpol sometimes, and now I think he's milking it. Not sure what to do as don't want him to be in pain, but also don't want to be giving him calpol every day? Last night he was really upset and chewing his fingers and saying 'teeeeef! hurt! mouf! hurt!' so I gave him some calpol and then he started wailing for 'moooore calpol mooooore!' Little drug addict.

I keep finding these things I need to remember when he's big - he can't say helicopter; he says 'hot-a-cup-a-tea' and all things in the sky are 'hairplane!' He has a dozen or more words for food, and is putting together little sentences (usually start with 'want that...') I'm having a hard time with him being nearly two. It doesn't seem possible and sometimes he looks like this proper little boy with mad hair and a cheeky grim and a permanently grubby face and other times (like when I co-sleep cause I can't be arsed re-settling him and I really like it) he looks like a little baby again, in his sleeping bag though he snores and drools on me WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?!

Xiaoxiong · 26/09/2013 20:19

Just put DS to sleep - last night with just him as my baby! Such mixed emotions and he wanted a big cuddle as he fell asleep with his arms round my neck. I must admit I had a little weep into his ear as he whispered "nice mama, luff you mama" SadBlush

I think the Brazilian is about keeping everything nice and clean around the scar for them as they apparently cut out the entire old scar and make a new one. And shaving down below maybe keeps it all clean for the catheter, lochia, etc etc?

Faffin · 26/09/2013 20:36

I can't imagine what it feels like knowing when baby will arrive Xiao. Best of luck for c-day (and for trying to wax Shock). I look forward to hearing all about the new little bundle. Try and have a good night's sleep if that's at all possible

NorthernChinchilla · 26/09/2013 20:42

Aww, I know what you mean Hop. It's just lovely when they're asleep, and all so soft and baby like with the little pout and chubby cheeks...and then awake they're biting the furniture and winging spoons across the kitchen. We do the same with the co-sleeping- we've still got the double bed in his room so if he doesn't settle immediately then in we go. Get more sleep as well!

And so true about the Calpol, it's a bit Hmm the way they beg for it...

I am so sorry it's so tough at the moment mopsy, and there's really no solution other than time to become acclimatised. Getting the train's a good idea though, if it's not too expensive, as you can either doze or just zone out, and it's less stressful than the car in that way. Will Mr M be able to guarentee you at least two nights a week where you get a full night, and then vice versa? That amount is just manageable I find.

And full brazilian Shock? What are they on with? Yeah, cos the thing you really want to be dealing a week after surgery is itchy re-growth, not to mention the in-growing pube hairs a fortnight later...and all with a newborn! 'scuse the crudeness, but really.... It's great being able to plan the birth though, one of the best things about the planned c-section I found.

House purchase is apparently agreed...got told yesterday, and got the mortgage bods and solicitors on the case already. Person at the top of the chain wants an 8 week max turnaround, and if he'd not just lost out on a property, it would be 4 weeks.

But a micro-yay! that we may be sorting out...

Aethelfleda · 26/09/2013 21:06

Good luck tomorrow xiao!

This has been a really strange week, work starting up, DS in nursery, and now DD2 has been keeping me busy (see my FB for details as I don't like cross-posting). she's all OK now but boy is it busy having three! octo I sympathise greatly with the three-kids-at-meeting scenario, I often have to take multiple children along to places due to lack of alternative childcare. Kudos for going anyway...
