*child benefit and income support.

PurplePidjin · 09/08/2013 21:11

PR if i were working it would be in childcare as it's the easiest to get employed in (my experience is LD) but i can't afford to. 7 years experience working with people with SN and challenging behaviour and all I'm worth is minimum wage. No one can afford to hire trained, experienced staff but surely society can't afford for our children to be raised by barely literate teenagers aka a large proportion of the nursery staff I've met? Lovely, kind, friendly... But also clueless and giggly and ignorant Sad

Bitter? Moi?

Passmethecrisps · 09/08/2013 21:14

PP your situation makes me rage. I have lost count of the number of lovely (sometimes) but clueless young ladies who proclaim to have a desire to work in child care. I let rip at a girl a few years ago who was plenty bright but wildly lazy and massively disaffected. She eventually admitted that she had categorically no interest in the care of other people's babies but thought it would be easy.

ChasingDaisy · 09/08/2013 21:14

YW that is awesome karma Grin The thing is, I know that at the start he will be a 'good' boyfriend, fancy dates and the like. His true colours won't show for a good few months. Plus, for some reason I think I would feel a bit weird about him bringing another girl into his family. I know I dislike my ex in-laws but it would hurt a bit I think. But I am definitely getting there.

ChasingDaisy · 09/08/2013 21:16

pass and pp indeed, child care seems to be the career of choice for erm, how should I say...chavvy young mums, around these parts.

PurplePidjin · 09/08/2013 21:16

Oh, and if i didn't work I'd be on £130pw maternity allowance from 29 weeks pg. As i work, i got 90% of my £98 per month for the time i was off.

But, i was unfit for work and kicked off JSA at 29 weeks pg. So I've had no income since last September. Nice reward for keeping my job, hey?

PurplePidjin · 09/08/2013 21:17

Don't get me started on TAs in schools Angry

Passmethecrisps · 09/08/2013 21:17

That makes sense chasing. As the mother of O you are part of that family for better or for worse so someone else in there is bound to rub. Thankfully for you you know what a bunch of utter cunts they are.

I can see you having lots of fun in the coming months. Lots of low level flirting just to bump your confidence. A wee flirt is like having the sun on your face.

Evilwater · 09/08/2013 21:19

I just want to say thank you quiche, for making my day so much much better.
Thank you.

Evil

Passmethecrisps · 09/08/2013 21:20

Err, like I did pp

Ehm. I did think of your the other day actually. But I am a but scared to suggest anything because you have had 'helpful suggestions' until they are vomming out your nostrils.

. . . . . . Ignore the following . . . . .
OU teaching?

ChasingDaisy · 09/08/2013 21:20

Perhaps that was a bit judgey pants. But I see a lot of young girls with no qualifications who have kids and want to go into child care. I think they reckon that as they have a child of their own it will be easy. But that isn't going to help our children be educated properly. One reason that I am glad O is going to be raised primarily by me and my family is that we all have a good grasp of basic grammar. XP's grammar is terrible and I would hate O to pick up on it and start speaking that way too Blush It is one thing I am a bit snobby about.

Passmethecrisps · 09/08/2013 21:21

How did we do that evil? I am glad you feel better though.

How is N tonight?

You work long hours by the way. What is it you do again?

Passmethecrisps · 09/08/2013 21:27

chasing it is not snobby to want your child to have a good understanding of basic things.

I come from an extended family who believe that education beyond primary is largely unnecessary and generally just for 'snobs'. One particular relative, when called in to primary school to talk about her child's terrible behaviour told the head teacher that she "needed a fuckin guid shaggin"

Never make apologies for wanting your child to be educated.

And you have a point about the nature of many child care workers. It is only through reading the full record of children when they come to me that I have any understanding of how challenging and intense the job of nursery teacher is. The girl I am talking about thought that it was all "playing in the wet sand"

Kyz · 09/08/2013 21:33

pp they look awesome! I may have to invest in some, I found pouches really convenient, this would be brill i reckon!

Your situation is really unfair :( It makes me really mad :(

I have everything crossed eliza that it goes well on Monday :) It sounds promising, if she eats well :) Would she perhaps drink juice? You've probably tried her on it already but on very hot days i've diluted apple/orange/pear juice for e to encourage him.

Aw evil bless you :) How did the quiche manage such things? :)

I am trying so fucking very fucking hard not to eat any ice cream. I am really craving ANYTHING with sugar in. Today I have had a mugshot for lunch and a pasta bake for tea. Not the healthiest, granted, but I have not eaten anything rubbish for almost 48 hours i think. AND i drank a pint of juice. Thats me for a fortnight now, i am going back to coffee and pepsi max now.

Evilwater · 09/08/2013 21:33

pass I work on the stem cell unit as a HCA. Pretty cool, at times. From what was posted on face book, about the misplaced empathy. I was getting by upset about it, and also angry at the GPs again.

I spoke to P, who said N is getting better. Which has also made me happier.

Right bed!
Evil

PetiteRaleuse · 09/08/2013 21:34

pidj to work in nurseries here you have to have passed a two year childcare post A Level qualification, and it is not minimum wage. Childminders otoh need a three week training course and a childproofed house. Some are excellent but I had a bad experience. France isn't very SN friendly. I honestly have never come into contact with an advanced SN person here. I have NO idea what happens to them. I guess they go into full time specialised day care and then adult day care :( I was talking about it with DH the other day. We watched Mr Tumble and later on Magic Hands on cBeebies and he was astounded. Other than the odd news bulletin with signers here there is no imdication on French TV that handicapped people exist. I know of one person who had a dyslexic child and she had to fight, REALLY fight to ensure she was kept in regular school. My ex neighbour has a slightly mentally slow child - I wouldn't have ever noticed- and she has been put into a specific school, 20 km away. And don't get me started on autism. Here shrinks blame it on a lack of maternal bonding!!!!!

So France is good for childcare in some ways, unless you have special needs.

BUT those who have psychology or other skills to deal with SN are valued as are regular child carers.

Turned into a bit of a rant.

Oh, I have more. DD1 is 2.4 and doesn't speak much sense . Our paed is in Lux and says she doesn't worry about speech til 3 going on 4. Next door but one have a boy the same age, who understands perfectly but who just says a few words. His paed is in France and he is already in speech therapy. At not even 30 months.

And in this one post are all my main gripes about France. In a wal nut shell.

PurplePidjin · 09/08/2013 21:34

Pass i work 4 hours a week term time at a job I'm devoted to. It's more of a hobby, I'm just lucky enough to get paid.

OU teaching? Hmm, doubt they'd want a thicko like me. But i might have a nosy just to depress myself further

Our children are growing up TOWIE due to lack of intelligence in the staff paid to raise them. Women will never be equal when their role models as tiny infants are more interested in Big Bother (sic) and hair extensions than anything in wider society. Nail painting is a normal activity in nurseries - what does that teach children about the value of personality and freedom of speech and thought?

PetiteRaleuse · 09/08/2013 21:36

pidj I was trying to say your skills would be valued here as SN workers are few and far between. No mainstream schools have more than one, if that.

PurplePidjin · 09/08/2013 21:40

Don't forget we spent the first 6 months of the year on SSP, the tax credits didn't come through till May, my work forgot to pay me after ML (so jan-june) and dp is now doing 16 hours a week at £8 an hour. And damn near killing himself to do that much.

Bed time. Crying.

TheDetective · 09/08/2013 21:40

Ello mofo's!

PR I found him hanging about on a video of some boy talking to the camera about the visit. I wouldn't have known it was him, if it wasn't for 'the hair'. Couldn't mistake his barnet bobbing about!

VQ You know my opinion on the TC fuckers. They will have it wrong. Again. Keep plugging away. :(

Lily fucking red tape. Fucking stupid backwards laws. Fucking government. Fuck fuck and fuck.

Why did they dispute a valid card btw? Idiots.

Pennie Well done M! It's a lovely moment isn't it? But one I can definitely wait for. I need less activity in my life right now. Not more Grin.

All this food talk is killing me! I am very hungry today. I am on my period. I assume this is why. I don't have anything in that I could really have though. I need to be good. Waaaaah!

You know I mentioned about a letter this morning for an appt for O? Well, DP was out at the time. He came in 15 minutes later and I told him about the letter. He cut me off to say 'oh that was what your post was on about wasn't it?'. I was like, huh? What post.

Turns out the bastard is logged in as me on his phone, and has the threads I am on page on. Fuck OFF!

Passmethecrisps · 09/08/2013 21:42

Nail painting? Nail painting. Let me tell you something. If p came home from anywhere with her nails painted I would be pretty fucked off. Child's party at 5 years old. Maybe. Nursery? Fuck right off.

And pp and cannot for a minute see why you are not qualified. I have a chum who does this and while hard work it sounds ideal for working from home

PurplePidjin · 09/08/2013 21:44

Nor do schools here, PR. Inclusion means sn kids are left disrupting ms classes while teachers with about 1 day's training to cover the entirety of sn mutter darkly about naughty kids and smacks. TAs are invariably Head of the pta types who want a naice little job to fit in with the kiddies so the hubby doesn't nag them about getting back into the real world

Have been turned down for many many many TA jobs. Everything else in the field is shifts. I damned near killed myself doing shifts, i want office hours like normal people!

Passmethecrisps · 09/08/2013 21:45

Dear mr det,

Hello duder. You are not a bad sort obviously and largely you make our lovely det happy. Come and join us properly a la luis. We almost never bite.

PurplePidjin · 09/08/2013 21:47
