Here we go again

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

That's what we did until her sleep went wrong lora so I was trying something else but I guess it's not working. She is sleepy by 615 though.

Pascha · 07/08/2013 12:53

Oh Glorious Sad. How are her daytime naps? I've heard that the better they sleep during the day, the better they get at night.

Wish I didn't get full boobs anymore Lora, mine are uncomfortably full a lot of the time still and I can hit targets from 5 feet at least with my milk. I've just had to order a cupsize bigger nursing bras. I'm sure with DS1 I was back in normal bras by 9 months.

Poor you glorious. Firstly yes it will get better, and secondly sleep deprivation is shit and the only way I can manage it myself is to drink lots of water and stay as busy as possible (going out and things). And remember it does always get better eventually. Just allow yourself to be zombiefied in the meantime.

Most babies this age apparently need to sleep for half an hour about 90 minutes after waking, then a lunchtime longer nap. I feed X back to sleep after 30 minutes of the lunchtime one as she always wakes, but then she stays asleep up to 2 hours. Then she has a half hour around 5pm and asleep by 8pm. She wakes 2 times in the night so I haven't 100% cracked the sleep thing yet, but the first two naps of the day are really important. They need about 3 hours a day in total.

X also wakes very early each morning. I leave her until she's tired exactly 45 mins later and then feed her back to sleep. I just count that as a nighttime waking.

None of this may help you, but just in case!

glorious · 07/08/2013 14:26

Thanks pascha and birdies .

I've been working really hard on the daytime naps but she's so reluctant. That's why I end up walking for hours on end because it's the only way she'll reliably fall asleep in the day / stay asleep longer than 40 mins.

birdies that's roughly what I'm aiming at and I ignore her at 530 until she cries and treat it as night until 7 (no talking or eye contact). Doesn't seem to help.

I do really appreciate the suggestions, I just don't seem to be able to convince DD to follow them!

glorious · 07/08/2013 14:27

Oh and the sympathy is great Smile Thanks

Tugstonia · 07/08/2013 15:50

Glorious your dd sounds exactly like mine. Yours was born on 31st Jan wasn't she? Mine was born 30th Jan so maybe it's a 'wonder' week thing? I'm hoping so because then it means an end is in sight! I really sympathise Flowers Brew Wine

glorious · 07/08/2013 16:07

Maybe that's it tugs. And they were both overdue weren't they. I really hope so as up until about 3.5 months she slept well considering.

Brew Thanks Wine to you too, especially if I'm right in thinking you're working some of the time too? No wonder you're not feeling as positive as you might.

glorious · 07/08/2013 16:07

p.s. well remembered on the date!

Tugstonia · 07/08/2013 17:04

Thanks glorious. Yes dd was 12 days overdue. Not sure what that means in terms of wonder weeks but there's got to be some kind of special growing going on! She seems to have got really long in the last few days and at last weigh in was nearly 20lbs... She definitely doesn't need all the night feeds but like you I just can't face the shh pat at 3am. This morning I was up 2-4am trying to settle her and ended up feeding her anyway in desperation. I'm working very sporadically at the mo so at least I can have the odd daytime nap. When are you going back to work (if you are)?

Birdies · 07/08/2013 17:25

22.5 - 26.5 weeks old based on due date is a big wonder week. Does that apply to your babies?

Birdies · 07/08/2013 17:26

If so, here's the signs!

Cries more, more often or longer;
Asks for more attention;
Sleeps less or worse and eats less;
Has mood-swings;
Is not pleased with many things.

Birdies · 07/08/2013 17:27

Sounds like me actually, except I eat more not less haha!

Birdies · 07/08/2013 17:29

28.5-30.5 is a 'fussy period'. That applies to X at the mo. it says.....

Fussy and irritable behaviour as around 29 or 30 weeks is not a telltale sign of another leap. Your baby has simply discovered that his mommy can walk away and leave him behind. Funny as it may sound, this is progress. It is a new skill. He is learning about distances.

glorious · 07/08/2013 17:40

2-4 Sad tugs . I remember now, we were due date buddies. Glad the work isn't too full on.

Tee hee birdies me too. She's 27 weeks tomorrow so 29 on Friday by official EDD (less by mine). And this has been pretty much continuous since about 13/14 weeks so either she didn't really recover from the last one and is being slow on this one or there's more going on. I'd love to think that was it though.

glorious · 07/08/2013 17:41

Cross post. Well perhaps it's the fussy period. She definitely notices when I leave which is quite recent.

LetThereBeCupcakes · 07/08/2013 18:24

Hi everybody, I was on the original ante-natal thread but got a bit lost along the way. I have been reading posts and trying to keep up though.

We have pretty awful sleep, too - naps are awful and usually involve a lot of screaming from DS, which breaks my heart as he is so obviously tired but just doesn't seem able to drop off. He wakes frequently in the night for feeds too, although he goes bak to sleep really easily. I wonder if the night feeds are because he's so distracted in the day he doesn't feed enough - does this seem likely?

I'm trying to up his solids a bit as he enjoys his food - it's just his milk feeds that he loses interest in.

Having said that, he's asleep in his cot right now. I should do something useful, but the dogs have cuddled up on my feet and I don't have the heart to move them!

Angielka · 07/08/2013 18:38

Oh sorry to hear about all the awful sleep. It's so difficult!!

I was all hopeful last night because Molly went down at 7 and I didn't hear anything until 10.30pm. Then it was a complete nightmare until 1.30am and the next longest part of sleep was 2.30-5am. Why can't they just switch off and recharge their batteries and leave us in peace?!! Confused

Anyway, sending you all lots of good luck vibes for tonight. In the blink of an eye they'll all be five, heading off to school and sleeping through the night. It just all feels so permanent when you're going through a shitty patch. Keep smiling ladies Flowers.

AppleCrumples · 07/08/2013 20:06

Hi all wow its busy on here today!

Sorry about all the shit sleep i think everyone needs Brew Brew Brew

Re wonder weeks Ivy is 31.1 but 27.1 from due date so does that mean she is in a wonder week? That would explain her current whingyness :)

angie you're right it goes so fast! Was at a 5th birthday today and i remember when most of the dcs there were little babies, its really flown!

lettherebe Ivy is like this, totally distracted so feeds are all over the place. Shes doing really well with solids but seems to be catching uo with milk feeds at night.

tugs we had Shock at rhyme time yesterday when a mum with a 9mo asked how old Ivy is and i told her 7mo. Ivy is bigger and almost getting going whikst hers was crawling so she thought they were the same age!

She keeps hurling herself at things she wants and virtually assaulted me for my chicken nuggets earlier Grin

Hormonalhell · 07/08/2013 21:20

3.00 has 6oz
Naps about 4.30ish for half hour
Dinner 5.00 other half of jars
Bath 6.30
7oz bottle n bed about 7.30
Phew Grin

Birdies · 07/08/2013 21:26

apples no you've got one coming up haha! Sorry, not funny really. Its only the fussy period next at 28.5 weeks. Maybe due date was out a bit? Or wonder weeks a load of twaddle?

Hi cupcakes! Have you tried feeding him in a quiet dark room in the day? I find X is really distracted if there is anything else going on in the room and doesn't feed as much. Although if he is getting more solids then could be hunger in the night? If he takes a cup or a bottle you can try water in the night for one of the feeds if you haven't already.

I know this isn't remotely exciting for anyone else but I felt a peg today - her first little peg! I could eat it Grin Although I'm worried about getting bitten when feeding now - is that likely?

Pascha · 07/08/2013 21:31

Dan ate 6 filled ravioli and an entire banana for tea, then complained as there was no more Shock Gannet. DS1 at this age was very prissy and would eat an inch of banana and a grape.

Hello to Cupcakes, Cejay and everyone else who's popped for an update. Nice to see you all again. I think 6ish months is a great time for a catch up.

Just realised I have stopped counting in weeks. He's 7 months yesterday, whatever that is.

Thanks hormonal :) You are very organised!

Birdies · 07/08/2013 21:47

pascha was that bought ravioli and if so which one? Please don't tell me you made it!!

Lostbobbles · 07/08/2013 21:47

Hello All

Just catching up with all the updates

Hormonal good to hear from you, we were EDD buddies Smile

Been busy trying to get DD1 party organised, but seem to be faffing and achieving nothing. To top it off bloody cake maker has let me down as well so trying to find another, which is not easy at late notice, some are booked until the end of the year Shock think I need to learn to bake . I did fit in lovely manicure and pedicure today though so all is not lost Wink

As for DD2 well little monkey is already crawling all over and now pulling herself up to standing using the sofa Shock. Oh and still wakes numerous times throughout the night Angry

AppleCrumples · 07/08/2013 21:47

birdies nooo don't say that! She is hard work at the mo. Clingy, up crying early in the morning and just generally fussy! Actually thinking about it she was fine when dp took older dcs out last week so maybe its an attention issue? Due date was prob spot on as i know when i conceived...oh well..

pascha i think thats 30 weeks. I only know as my feeding app counts the weeks for me!
