daisy i'd have to ring the hospital as vq says, you must be beside yourself :(

vq I agree a strawberry bum might be quite pleasant smelling, but I wouldn't be silly enough to squirt liquid calpol up there, I worried enough taking temp rectally because of damaging anything. I have taken the temperature of many an animal and still I get worried I might hurt them or something. I don't do it for fun, I might add!

Mums husbands daughter is due her 3rd baby any day now. I'd like to get her a gift.

She has 2 boys, 4 and just turned 2.

So, what would make your life easier if you had 2 boisterous boys, and a newborn? I have thought of Ewan, a swaddle... not sure what else! I want to spend about £30.

Talking to her today, they don't have a lot of 'nice to haves'. Well, they don't have any. They have the basics. I will get a small item of clothing as well, as they don't have much of that either.

I'm going to pass the bumbo and jumperoo on to her too, which will come back to us once finished with. :) First time I've been able to share my baby things with people! Feels nice to help someone else. :)

But what would be useful for her now? I would like to get her a sling, as I would think that would be very useful. But I'm not entirely sure that is her kind of thing. Perhaps I could suggest it to her, and she could look and chose one and I buy it? Not sure. Help!

Yes vq you're absolutely right to point that out. Definitely no squirting of liquid calpol anywhere other than in the mouth.

I read a thread the other day by someone who'd just moved to Germany who'd given her baby a suppository orally I have no idea how they thought That could go into a baby's mouth but apparently no harm done other than the baby could have a tummy upset. T'other way round would be a different story.

detective I would in your situation, as you're already lending things for the baby, get a gift each for the older two. They're at an age where a new arrival will be confusing and they'll ferl left out.

I have laughed at the up the bum stuff . Having spent much of p's early weeks with my vaselined finger up her arse helping her poo I would have no issue stuffing something up there. Carefully and something appropriate obviously.

P's new noise is my favourite one so far. She says "blah blah blah" sticking her tongue right out. So it is more like blaaaaaaah blaaaah. Very funny. She also likes to high pitch screech. So loud she surprises even herself.

Nappy changes are a challenge here. I always give her something to hold and distract her with it. Still usually ends in hysterics though because I have to hold her still. I have had to fasten a nappy on a quickly crawling away baby before.

What other chat was there?

I would suggest a sling Det as i think one would be really useful in that kind of situation, with the other boys to look after. See what she says :) I bet it is nice having someone to share things with :)

Rather than buy something for the baby iyswim. When LO was born I kept telling people we didn't need anything for the baby but to spoil DD1. No-one listened, so we spoiled her but got lots of less useful stuff for LO.

det I would avoid sling buying. Very personal and I think it is better if the sling wearer fits it. I think a gift for the others is a lovely idea. We got a good friend of ours a grobag when she had her baby. Having used proper grobags and other bags I think grobags are much better. Or a swaddle.

P can wave but she is still a but reluctant and unsure of the purpose. No clapping. I shall do some LO-5ing as per VQ's advice. Being a fo shizzle gangsta I should be good at that.

Nappy changes are a nightmare here too pass , even more so if there is an unexpected cacastrophe and I have to change her clothes during the day without DH there to pin her down help.

Also LO loves screaming. DD1 joins in. They get loud. I worry about neighbours dropping round to see what the noise is, or worse, calling the police.

PR The older two are coming to stay with my mum when the baby arrives. We will be going out with them, so I will probably buy them something while we are out anyway.

Yes det and it is massively thoughtful. I remember getting massively ungratefully ragey about the amount of money people spent on, well, tat. We were given 4 snowsuits and 5 or 6 jackets all for 0-3. The snowsuits are still in their wrappers bar 1 and the jackets were all worn once. We also got little ornaments and stuff - just not our thing. It would have been great if people had asked what we needed or waited a month or so then got something.

Oh. Bloody poo nappies. My girl sure does love stuffing both hands in there and then rubbing the contents all over her tummy. All the while I am fighting with the fucking wipe packet!

If she picks her own sling though, if she is into them, then she'll know what it is she's getting? A grobag is an idea too though as they're really useful :) I need new ones, you've just reminded me pass as E is at the end of the his 6-18 month ones. Bloody beanpole.

I am always fighting with a wipes packet too pass, e doesn't do the content rubbing thing but gets his heels in it, or if i hold his feet/legs he twists and turns and is crawling off in nanoseconds.

Also, I wondered about the strap thing, the straps on the cabriofix kinda need to go up and over m's shoulders. Does thatmake sense? She is taller than the straps basically. Is it time to move up?

They've only just emailed offering me sn interview for a full time position more locally!!! I am delighted!
