Detective the stuff from that website is fab. I have ordered more for the present cupboard. All my girls friends will be getting One Direction pjs come their birthday. My girls are getting matching sets for Christmas. J has a Thomas bag for nursery and a hungry caterpillar bag for holidays so he did ok too. They have sold out of a lot of stuff.

ValiumQueen · 31/07/2013 13:19

J choked on a blueberry today when daddy was looking after him and i was getting dressed. Everyone panicked and they are all traumatised. Vomit everywhere. J is still not happy as his meds came back too. Poor wee boy.

Lily311 · 31/07/2013 13:22

The health visitor just came, it's compulsory to visit kids once a month under the age of one. So some weird things: O should have vitamin d every day even. she gets sun every day, plenty of it actually. Not allowed to eat (and I kid you not): beans, lentils, egg white, chicken thighs though breast is allowed, no use of milk in cooking, no strawberries, raspberries, kiwi, mushroom. That's the rule here, told her I was glad she was British so the rules don't apply. I mean wtf? Chicken breast is ok but no thighs? Strange, strange country.

I don't even want to talk about weight gain and loss, just makes me feel miserable. But well done det, you are doing well.

Poor bee Sad

Poor J Sad

P was a champion superstar at the CM. she managed a 30 minute nap which I am pleased with. The rest of the time she played and smiled and giggled. Apparently one of the other children said she would like to take p home. She had lunch when she came home and down for a nap. Perfect.

I am now watching breaking bad and waiting for my mushroom soup to cook.

ValiumQueen · 31/07/2013 13:29

Well done P! And how was mummy for those two hours? J starts on Monday so I am wondering how I will do. Just taster sessions mon and fri, then full days mon and fri until I am back to work.

YellowWellies · 31/07/2013 13:30

Wah VQ I'm really confused as to what size their oesophagus is - and what sized food would choke them. I'm scared of giving sweet corn, blueberries, unmashed peas etc for choking reasons but what about bigger stuff like grapes? Big hug to you, DH and DS Sad scary biscuits Sad Sad Sad I am now Shock Shock Shock Shock about blueberries.

On a tangent but a thought from the haggis meet, those struggling with food refusal or other stressful mealtimes - do you reckon they need to be on a higher dose of omeperazole? If we give less than 2mg / kg per day food is a battle - at 2 you can pretty much shovel anything in / he'll try any finger food. I know it's not ideal to have to medicate the wee dudes but my view is is best to approach it aggressively now to avoid food aversions ie associating eating with a sore throat - in the future. Worth a shot?

Passmethecrisps · 31/07/2013 13:44

I agree YW. P is still a bit meh sometimes but on higher meds she can eat a fair amount without seeming uncomfortable. So if she doesn't eat it it is because she doesn't fancy it rather than being in pain.

I have been giving P blueberries but she shoots them straight back out of her mouth anyway. I sometimes smoosh them a little bit before she gets one. Pretty scary.

I was fine, thanks VQ. I lay and read a book for a while. P was a wee but funny about taking her milk but that will be practice. I gave her it when I arrived to collect her so CM got a good look at P's preferred position and so on. P seemed very happy and was sitting in my arms smiling and giggling at the CM right up until we left.

Ace.

YW the low-carb diet would probably be quite easy for you given your current diet. The biggest problem would be not being able to have butter but you could substitute coconut oil, olive oil or lard. There's some Mumsnet info here and a Mumsnet questions thread. I'm amazed that I can eat lovely food, not be hungry at all, and still lose weight. If you look at the current Bootcamp thread then you'll see quite a few people have joined recently.

The low carb diet combines very well with intermittent fasting because you don't get the same hunger pangs. The recommendation is very strongly to establish low carb eating before introducing fasting as your body takes up to six weeks to adapt. Also you'll probably find that you lose weight very quickly at first then you can introduce fasting when your weight loss slows or plateaus. It's not necessary to be as strict as 5:2 though, some people skip one meal a day or occasionally see how long they can go before they get hungry.

Poor J VQ, I hope you're all feeling a bit less wobbly about it now. It's such a scary thing to happen.

I don't think it's the oesophagus rather it's how likely things are to stick. I cut fruit with a skin (blueberries, grapes) into two or four pieces but give raspberries and small strawberries whole. Big strawberries get diced and given with a spoon which is verrry popular. Smile

Forgot to say MM my PIL are twunts of the highest order as well. I don't seek them out any more and I passively try to avoid contact with them BUT at the end of the day they are DH's parents so I just have to suck it up when I have to spend time with them. I do stand up for myself though so I can see it coming to a row at some point. They were very against me doing an OU degree so if there are any snide comments about that now it's finished then I will almost certainly explode.

After talking to DH it seems J was not choking, merely gagging. DH overreacted as he was worried J would choke. He does not feed him often and I had tried to explain and he had said he knew what he was doing. He had given J a good wallop whilst upside down so no wonder the poor boy brought everything up. It really upset DH. The blueberries had been specially selected as they were tiny. I think at this age their gullet is about the width of a finger so grapes and blackberries are just the right size to get lodged and as they are hard they are potentially dangerous. I remember a small baby choked on a hot dog sausage and died, and another on a marshmallow as they are very sticky and swell.

ValiumQueen · 31/07/2013 14:27

MM I do not think an ultimatum will hurt. He is in the dog house as it is so needs keeping in line.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 31/07/2013 14:58

Reality has hit today.

I am leaving my place of work for 17 years next Friday.

I am moving across the sea.

Kyz · 31/07/2013 15:01

Afternoon. Gee it's one of those days. Eric is awake early from his long nap. He never does this. I am leaving him in the hope he goes back to sleep cos he will never manage to get to 7pm from now and he's been unsettled mardy arse all day so far

I love Lego. Not looking forward to the endless tidying it up though!

mm I would've assumed a no to a verbal invite means I don't have to worry about inviting them via written invitation, how odd!

Aww pr that's sweet re: the bees. Sorry one died :(

Sounds like a good sleep there det!! You're doing fab with the weight loss too :)

lily some of those things are really odd!

Eek vq sounds very scary :( I can see why your dh would've thought choking as gagging looks awful IMO, I hate it. yw e manages really well with peas and sweetcorn and similar. I agree that it is the likelihood of things sticking, or getting lodged. On my first aid course the lady said that it is about the width of a straw, but it's things that are grape/blueberry sized that might get lodged in. Oddly I never worried about peas or sweetcorn, I assumed he would just cough them back up. Chunks of cheese scare me. As does untoasted bread.

Fuck sake. Fucking wankering cunting twatting hillbilly farmer bastard fuckers across the road have some fuck off truck thing roaring and waking e up. Fuck sake. Very tempted to go and stick a spud up the exhaust. Cunts.

pass well done to p!

ValiumQueen · 31/07/2013 15:29

Kyz is right.

A young child's trachea is the size of a straw. Fuck me. I knew they were tiddly, but not that tiddly.

Thank you Kyz.

ValiumQueen · 31/07/2013 15:31

I am getting really excited about Christmas already. I have started my shopping and have a list already.

ValiumQueen · 31/07/2013 15:32

Sophia MM was 4 when you started working there. It is a long time. You are bound to feel strange.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 31/07/2013 15:53

Lol vq. I am happy, but just a bit scared. Emotional, but not sad.

fruitpastilles · 31/07/2013 16:12

vq me and dp were talking about Christmas today, only about how S is going to destroy the tree though. He said shall we not put one up this year....... Errrrm I don't think so!

ValiumQueen · 31/07/2013 16:15

We put the Christmas tree in the play pen, or just have the little one on a high table.

fruitpastilles · 31/07/2013 16:21

I think we might need to get a smaller tree, ours is 7ft, it touches the ceiling and takes up the whole corner of the room, either that or S will definitely have learnt the meaning of no come January haha.

PetiteRaleuse · 31/07/2013 17:46
