Including our friends from late May & early July!

Thought time for a postnatal thread.

So. I'm craving a nightly glass of wine already, week
5 of motherhood. Anyone else?!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MrsBri · 04/08/2013 20:15

Good luck with the jabs, pink. It's our 6 week check up tomorrow.

Amy has now been put to bed on night 2 of the routine. Shame she keeps falling asleep during the feed so isn't actually soothing herself. She can do that during the day though, so hopefully could do it at night!

MrsBri · 04/08/2013 20:44

Christ...that didn't go so well. She's a bit bunged up and pooing really hurts her, so she keeps screaming as she's trying to eject it :-(

Glad we're at the GP tomorrow to see what she suggests.

AmIGoingMad · 04/08/2013 20:51

Good luck with the jabs Pinkbear! As far as I remember DS didn't need calpol after all of his injection appts but did after some. I'd say see how she goes but have some at the ready. And your thermometer too so you can check her temp if you think she's getting a bit warm after them and let that guide you.

Mrsbri sounds promising to me that you have a routine already! I'm about a week and a half behind you and hope that we manage one at that point too. It's just working it alongside DSs routine that's throwing us and making us want to put it off.

Aloha I can only suggest lots of tummy time on you at the moment. Any other solutions you come up with please share!

Those who already have other dc- quick question about carseats. DS is 2.6 but big and tall for his age and weighing about 18kg. He's too big fit our maxi cosi axiss (which has been amazing) now and hubby has just ordered a britax adventure for him. I'm concerned tho as it jean using the regular car seatbelt instead of having the 5 point harness. Have any of you switched to one like this this early? Do the dcs end up opening seatbelt much?!

AmIGoingMad · 04/08/2013 20:54

X post mrsbri- sorry that Amy's struggling. I've also been trying to add an extra 10ml or so of water with each feed which seems to keep Elodie regular?

pinkapples · 04/08/2013 21:00

Are any babies in their own rooms yet if so how old are they?

Sarah2506 · 04/08/2013 21:50

Back from weekend away. Was brilliant. She slept 7-7 both nights with just one feed at 3ish! How did she know we were on holiday?! Managed some walking as well. Almost felt normal! I have learnt that you should NEVER go away without access to a washing machine. We used it twice in two days. If we hadn't we would have written off two sleepsuits, vests and sleeping bags. PooNami. Out the leg hole and filled up her whole leg area with poo. We've booked a week in the Lakes next month which I have now cancelled as the cottage didn't have a washing machine! Have found another one that does so all good.

We are used to going longhaul twice a year but no more. Firstly we just don't have the money. People who say you don't have to pay for them under two miss that it will be no fun travelling with baby on lap! And nightmare when too big for bassinets and crawling etc. I reckon we will be back on it when we are done paying 12K a year for nursery..

MrsBri · 04/08/2013 22:03

Sarah, the cottage we booked for next year has a washing machine. I refused to get one without and it sounds like it was a good idea! Especially as a school friend is coming with us and will have a baby too.

AmI, we are doing that with Amy's bottles too. The Gaviscon really seems to have bunged her up good and proper though. I'll ask the GP if I can use lactulose tomorrow, I think.

Yesterday she was fine in our room without us, so I'm hoping the routine will be fine. I couldn't leave her up there tonight in pain though, poor mite. She's calmed down now, thank god, but we definitely need to sort the wind / poo issue out.

AlohaMama · 05/08/2013 00:36

AmI - she gets lots of time in the carrier so not leaning on anything plus time being held, I think it's just that she sleeps quite a bit. she's sleeping in a seat right now, which means she's leaning on the back of her head which may help (it's one side which is getting flattened).

For car seats - we still have ds (similar size to your ds) in his Britax boulevard which he's had since birth. It's American and I can't really see an equivalent one in the UK as it's suitable from birth to 70lb (32 kg). I would not trust my ds in just a seatbelt. His favourite thing is doing up and undoing clips and clasps. He can already undo part of his harness, but once it's done up can't quite undo the bottom part. Then again, with your seat would your ds actually be able to even reach the seatbelt where it clips in? Maybe you should just wait and see whether he could reach it or not.

pinkapples - we're keeping dd with us till 5/6 months but purely for logistical reasons. ds went in his own room at 3 months.

some impressive poo-ing there Sarah!!

arlandria666 · 05/08/2013 02:02

hi pink when Elliott had his jabs I was glad I had calpol I did give it him when I got home and 5 hours later as when it wore off he was red hot and screaming nothing would soothe him not even feeding and normally my boobs solve everything but he was crying during feeding it was truly heart breaking Sad after the second dose and feed he slept solid for 4.5 hours which is unheard of for him and woke up a different baby!! I know all babies are different but I had never heard him cry like that and was so glad I had it. Good luck be brave I nearly cried when she gave him his lol!!

Mutley77 · 05/08/2013 03:31

Re flat head, ds got it from sleeping with head on one side. We tried cranial osteopathy which helped stretch his neck muscles, also one of those pillows (although I was conscious of the sids risk)

Sleeping still bad here aahhh! Dd now got a cold which doesn't help but I have switched her formula and seem to be getting less wind, tummy pain, sickness so once the cold gers better fingers crossed!

She has first injections tomorrow....

We haven't let our kids stop our holidays as we need them more now! We don't tend to do long haul but a five hour flight is no trouble with a baby on your lap ime, esp if you have a partner to help. Holidays are different though as we go for an easy option with as much activity available for kids as possible. We've also found going with friends or family to be a good option to lighten the childcare load and provide everyone with company, esp if no access to babysitters to get out in the eve (when kids too old to go out and sleep in pram!)

AmIGoingMad · 05/08/2013 06:30

Thanks for that aloha- good idea! I'll wait til it arrives and we can try it out in car. If he can reach it then I'm going to have to demand we get a different one but maybe it won't be an issue.

Good luck for the bubs with injections today

And u hope the gp has a cure for Amy's tummy mrsbri.

Thanks for the tip re washing machine Sarah. Glad that you enjoyed and survived poo gate!

pinkbear82 · 05/08/2013 11:25

Thanks for the tips ladies! Fingers crossed it'll be ok.

Mrsbri I've noticed with Violet since having the gaviscon her poo is almost like play dough consistency rather than runny like it was before - is Amy the same?

How do u lot with more than one dc do it. I swear I have aged 90 years this morning - and the baby doesn't scream as loudly as the 8yr old Confused roll on DP finishing work!

Sarah2506 · 05/08/2013 11:43

Where are you staying mrsbri? We've booked here www.grovecottages.com/index.php

It is not a holiday if you have to sit in a launderette for hours!

MrsBri · 05/08/2013 13:40

Pink, yes, her poo is harder and she is passing less. Though she's having a minor poonami moment this morning, so hopefully some of our intervention tactics are working through now! I'll mention it to the GP as she's clearly in pain when it's solid poo.

Sarah, we are staying here: www.cottages4you.co.uk/cottages/lake-view-b5943

And no, I'm not keen on spending time sitting watching washing go round and round!

MrsBri · 05/08/2013 13:43

Which cottage are you in, Sarah? It looks lovely :-)

Oh, went to the dentist today, making the most of it being free. Despite it being 6 years since I last went, and me being 36, I still don't have / need fillings :-) Very pleased indeed!

pinkbear82 · 05/08/2013 13:54

Same here mrsbri - a few less poos but to be honestnshevwas pooing for devon the amount she was going so a few less isn't a major worry. But you certainly can now see when she's going now.
Good news on the dentist front too!

Who knew ww3 would be over m&m's (brought by their grandparents, yeah thanks) and having to wait at the doctors. Which I'd like to point out isn't until 3.15 - ww3 happened at 9.30.

Whoops just had a sneezing fit while feeding Violet - she looks less than impressed!!!

SunnyL · 05/08/2013 15:49

How are those of you with dogs coping? Mine is being very clingy at the moment and is off her food. She went for a little break to my inlaws which is great for her as they have her sister and the pair of them get up to lots of mischief. However since she's come back she's slumped a bit again and is spending a lot of her time shouting 'me too me too me too' in doggy language at me. She's getting as many walks as she was before, as many toys thrown and if anything she is getting more cuddles but she is still out of sorts. Any tips on what I can do to make her feel better?

curlyclaz13 · 05/08/2013 16:44

How much do your babies sleep during the day ? if I'm lucky oscar sleeps around 2-3 hours usually around midday, then awake until 8/9 until we go to bed. I thought they slept more ! I'm knackered and people say to sleep when he does, ha ha no chance.

MrsBri · 05/08/2013 17:25

Just back from the 6 week check up and we both passed :-)

I've been told to wait another month before getting back on the cross trainer due to the c section. Bit annoying as I think I need the help losing the weight. :-/ Looks like walking and calorie control only for now. Must get out and about more!

Pink, we were prescribed lactulose for Amy to help with the solid poo issue, which is good. And I got steroids and moisturiser for the eczema on my hands.

Curly, Amy sleeps for quite a bit, though it does seem to be a bit less these days. And I certainly don't nap during the day either!

rrreow · 05/08/2013 17:28

Z usually sleeps two stretches of 2 hours in the day. Usually one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Then the rest of the time he's either awake or does catnaps. He's not like DS1 at all who pretty much slept & fed in the first 3 months. It's much harder to get things done.

He's been doing a 5 hour stretch overnight (usually 12-5am), then another 3-4hr stretch till 8 or 9am. We co-sleep so I don't spend much time in the night resettling him. Just boob/burp/nappy & back to sleep.

I'm really behind with the thread!! DH took DS1 camping (together with a friend with another 2yo, brave men!) so I had a lovely weekend to myself with Z. Took full advantage of the good weather and didn't spend any time on mumsnet! Hope everyone is well and coping.

Sarah2506 · 05/08/2013 17:48

mrsbri your cottage looks good too! Bit more in the thick of it than us, we wanted away from everything. We are in Grove Corner. On the cross trainer thing I just started exercise when I felt ready. You know your body better than the GP. I just did a little, then a little more and so on. An arbitrary number of weeks doesn't mean you are necessarily good to go. If you feel ok in yourself why not try five mins? I have no pain in the scar, but I do get bad back ache, I guess from over compensating.

pinkbear82 · 05/08/2013 18:02

Bit jealous of all the getting away - would love to have something to look forward too.

Violets too nosey for her own good and won't sleep if she feels she'll miss out on something. But she does settle very well at night so I probably shouldn't complain.

Jabs all done, did have proper tears :( and she was a bit unsettled after. Have managed to convince her a sleep is better than watching her step sisters on the wii!

Sunny our dog is such an oaf I don't think he's really noticed. My mums dog is more aware and very protective. Our dog is happy being a clutz so no real advice I'm afraid.

SunnyL · 05/08/2013 20:01

Curly baby's don't sleep during the day - don't be silly! Ok I can get mine to sleep only if she is in a car seat or a pram and being walked or driven somewhere. However I do have a baby who sleeps quite well at night though so I really can't complain.

Just discovered baby lying on her mat surrounded by dog toys. Clearly pooch has decided baby is big enough to entertain a game of fetch!

curlyclaz13 · 05/08/2013 20:20

mine thinks sleep is for wimps I reckon. He has slept for an hour this evening. overnight he wakes every two hours to feed and this morning he was up and raring to go about six.
