Including our friends from late May & early July!

Thought time for a postnatal thread.

So. I'm craving a nightly glass of wine already, week
5 of motherhood. Anyone else?!

Oh and yes to the heat rash too, it's taken over her neck and arms Sad but nothing we can do we're just bathing 3/4 times a day to keep cool

Steffanoid · 02/08/2013 09:29

our hv has said there's no limit on the swimming, just said go for it and have fun. it's a 'subtropical paradise' so think it's defo warm enough

ami sorry am on phone so I miss loads, my belly hung over anyway, with my scar I've been lying on my back and holding mg tummy to air it and I've found a hand towel is very helpful, hold your tummy up, put towel there and let belly go, helps tummy stay dry Smile

curlyclaz13 · 02/08/2013 13:11

Back from doctors, I do have a prolapse 'probably from the back passage' as she put it Sad but she said it wasn't impressive ! and to keep doing pelvic floor exercises and go back at 12 weeks.

Mutley77 · 02/08/2013 13:31

Ah, I am jealous of you all going away for weekends. We used to go away a lot when DD1 was teeny tiny and, apart from the packing, really enjoyed it as they are genuinely so portable at this age.

Now with an 8 yo and 4yo as well it just seems much more trouble!! Although on their own they are very easy too, just can't have them asleep in a pram wherever and whenever you fancy.....

I think we waited until 8 weeks for swimming with DD1 and DS - after their first imms - but I'm sure the advice changes all the time..

I took DD for her six week check (a bit late) with a Paediatrician today and all was fine but she did a wee all over him which was v embarassing!!

hedgehogy · 02/08/2013 14:25

They don't even bother with 6 week checks for mothers here. Babies get a check at 8wks, at the same time as their immunisations.

Sorry I can't help, AmI (I've discussed sections on here previously, I've just had a name change), as although I still have a bit of a belly, I don't have overhang. Steff's advice sounds good.

learnermummy · 02/08/2013 16:46

Doesn't sound pleasant curly Hmm hope you're not too uncomfortable.

Know what you mean about the older ones mutley, that's why our weekend away is at the grandparents!!

MrsBri · 02/08/2013 18:13

Hope everyone has lovely weekends away :-)

Rather jealous. Though not of a car journey in this heat. Phew!!

AmI, sorry I didn't reply. I have a round belly but no overhang so I don't have the same issue. I just need to stop looking pregnant! :-/

Sunny, my friend's husband is a policeman and he was assaulted by a drug addict a few months ago, so I know how you feel because of her experience. It's awful, isn't it?

Amy is 11lb 13oz now, at 5 weeks, 6 days. So not doing too bad.

She's also a little constipated as her poo was a bit solid today. She's had a little water, but I'm not sure what else to do to assist her. Any tips?

SunnyL · 02/08/2013 18:28

Holy moly you guys are goooood at putting on weight in these little babies. I was all chuffed with our 10lb10 weigh in but you lot are putting me to shame especially since some of you were struggling to get weight on the little ones in the early days. Well done!

We've got a lovely warm day up in Scotland with a really good wind so no overheating here. Tourist season is in full swing so our village is full of tourists searching for the holy grail who all seem to love cooing over babies. We learnt the phrase for sock today in Italian and Spanish as we went for a walk and she kept losing her socks and people would run after us with the offending article.

Nothing much else to report here except we're not going away for the weekend. We just sent off our passport application form though so beginning to think about a foreign holiday in late September. Can't decide between a beach break or a city break - anyone else thinking about going away?

MrsBri · 02/08/2013 18:36

And ouch, curly. Fx the pelvic floor exercises help.

MrsBri · 02/08/2013 18:44

Sunny, we are only booking a trip to the Lakes next spring. Nothing abroad, sadly.

I'm sure the word for sock is useful in many languages!

learnermummy · 02/08/2013 18:47

Am actually looking forward to the air con in the car MrsBri! The house is still stifling!

Littlemissexpecting · 02/08/2013 20:50

Sunny the cool breeze is lovely here we went for a walk on the beach and it was lovely and refreshing.
We managed to avoid all the festival going ons but going into Edinburgh tomorrow so may have to take the sling as expect it to be too crowded for pram.
Major colic issues here every evening now for past week. Very tiring when your trying to cook dinner etc.
impressed with all the weight gains. Ds was 9lb at 5 weeks going to get weighed again next week. Think it's normal for breast fed babies to put weight on slower.

Sunbeam18 · 02/08/2013 20:54

Littlemiss - are you in Edinburgh on hols? That's where I live; well, South Queensferry (10 miles out). Gorgeous evening here - I braved Edinburgh on the bus with the pram today. It was v busy and took half an hour to get along Princes St in gridlock traffic. The festival is great, but the traffic isn't x

curlyclaz13 · 02/08/2013 21:57

Today's achievement was going by train to my work for an hour to see everyone then OH picked us up and we went to see Oscar' s great Nan, she has dementia and is in a home but was excited to see him, shame oscar wanted feeding and screamed the place down ! then of to grandparents to meet more family and dinner but not long home so he is grizzly. best part of the trip was getting the train re-platformed as the lift was out of order !

pinkapples · 02/08/2013 22:10

We plan to go abroad every year with little one as I come from a military family so have seen the world I'd like the same for her Grin not tho year tho next year I think somewhere warm and beachy not to far on the plane maybe Spain, Greece Portugal way not sure tho

MrsBri · 02/08/2013 22:33

We will go abroad when Amy / number 2 are older, I think, but I had loads of awesome holidays in the UK as a child and want to show our children this country too.

Steffanoid · 02/08/2013 22:42

weve been advised to make a stew of fennel seeds I think a teaspoon ful in a pint of hot water stew for 24 hours then strain and refrigerate come to prepare half and half of the mix with cooled boiled water and feed the baby wont take much of it but it's supposed to be good for constipation and wind. it was our hv that gave us the recipe, hth

AmIGoingMad · 02/08/2013 23:53

Mrsbri have you tried cycling her legs when she's laying on her back? Might help get things moving.

Curly that sounds like a pain- hope the pelvic floors help. Must make myself do them more than occasionally.

Thanks for the ideas on my annoying belly! Very frustrating- it's not that puffy all over its just the bleedin' overhang. I wasn't expecting it either as never had anything like it before. Any ideas of mild exercises for it?

Lovely to hear of everyone's travel plans! I'm happy for you but a bit jealous too if I'm honest! No plans here at the moment but hopefully if we don't manage a hol this yr, we'll have a nice one next yr!

MrsBri · 03/08/2013 00:17

Thanks for the suggestions on the constipation. We will give it a go, poor thing.

The water we gave her earlier appears to have had the desired effect, but it seemed to really hurt her. The poor mite was clinging onto my arm and staring imploringly up into my eyes while whimpering. Makes me feel like a crap mum :-(

We've just booked a cottage for 4 nights in the Lakes next March. Hopefully it'll be dry if nothing else!

AlohaMama · 03/08/2013 01:34

I think we're going to start thinking about a holiday next Easter, maybe Portugal? We'll be missing the sun by then I should think!

pinkapples · 03/08/2013 03:33

Totally agree too about the UK holidays as hubby had lots of caravan/camping as a kid

We're taking her to Blackpool illuminations in October which were all looking forward tooGrin

AlohaMama · 03/08/2013 04:01

Catching up a bit. Sorry to hear about your issues curly, sounds uncomfortable to say the least.

I am looking forward to uk hols too. Camping in the new forest is top of the list. I lo e center parcs but think it would be not much fun with a newborn - who would hold her while I go down all the slides??

Just back from our 8 week check. 11 lb here so all good. All vaccinated up so ready to be exposed to all the germs on the flight back.

Steffanoid · 03/08/2013 07:17

its typical isn't it, all week and morning Ethan has been practicing his gummy smiles, as soon as his grandparents are within 10 feet he scowls! oh well at least he does them for us and my mum even if it is while he poops Grin

SunnyL · 03/08/2013 07:37

Wow. Just wow. Little girl slept from 9.30 to 7.30 with only 1 feed at 4. I feel pretty amazing. These are the kind of stories they should tell people during week 1&2 - give them hope that it will get better.

Totally agree with you all re UK hols. We're off to the Lakes in oct and Blair Athol also in Oct. I'm more looking forward to UK hols when i can put her in a bike seat and rucksack. She's a little too small at the moment to do some of our favoured activities.

V impressed with you ladies braving the festival. I doubt i'm going to bother with it this year. I suppose if i do go it should be preview week this week so a teeny bit quieter?! My village has so many tourists in it thanks to Tom Hanks i cant really face the city centre.

learnermummy · 03/08/2013 07:58

Yes had the same thoughts about centre parcs Aloha, I'd be left holding baby while the rest of them had fun on slides!

Think we'll do something in October half term, either somewhere warm or a centre parcs. Feel guilty boys aren't getting a proper holiday this summer because of Anna.
