Including our friends from late May & early July!

Thought time for a postnatal thread.

So. I'm craving a nightly glass of wine already, week
5 of motherhood. Anyone else?!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
curlyclaz13 · 01/08/2013 13:41

we're off for our 6 week check in a bit. not sure if I am brave enough to ask them to check my bits for a prolapse, I know I need to but am not feeling brave today. hot day is making for a hungry baby, popped to town and had to find somewhere to feed him as he was having a melt down ! cue mammoth feed while I am on my own in a cafe.

Sarah2506 · 01/08/2013 14:06

I am off the opinion that 90% of the average cafe takings is women on maternity leave who don't actually want to buy anything, they just want somewhere to feed their babies:-)

curlyclaz13 · 01/08/2013 15:46

Back from check, Oscar is fine weighs 9lb 10 and following the 9th centile for weight. I am going in tomorrow to see if my insides are outside and to find out about the coil as the pill is out due to bf.

pinkapples · 01/08/2013 15:48

Not sure where my message is Hmm

pinkapples · 01/08/2013 15:58

Nevermind ill type again Hmm

Anyhoo went to the hospital and after an 1.5hr wait achieved nothing

Basically although it looks raw and there is a hole it appears to be healing from the inside out so another appointment in 6 weeks to check it out as the body takes 12 weeks to heal so when it's done all it can do basically they'll fix it to look like normal if its not like it should be

Bit of a nightmare as obviously I'd like to be healed already but it might do it on its own so fingers crossed Grin

curlyclaz13 · 01/08/2013 16:17

pinkapples, I hope things heal soon, I guess not needing stitches is a good thing.

helensmelen · 01/08/2013 17:25

hi,

New to mumsnet but anyone got any advice on getting baby to settle between night feeds? finally got him sleeping in cot but it takes me hours to get him back to sleep after a feed (which at the mo are about every 2-3hrs) and half the time I just end up falling asleep feeding lying down and he sleeps in the bed after 2am feed. he is breastfed and 7 weeks (tho he was 2 weeks late) and I am knackered. thanks in advance x

Sunbeam18 · 01/08/2013 18:09

Hi Helen, that's the million dollar question! My wee boy is just over 5 weeks and he tends to fall asleep on me after night feeds. However, the challenge is moving him from me into the Moses basket as his eyes ping open the minute I put him down in it. I need to let him fall into a deep sleep on me (for at least 20 mins) before trying to move him. I'm also keeping him in the bed after the 5am/6am feed as it seems easier and results in more sleep for everyone. We also just got a dummy in the hope that that would help settle him as he wants to keep sucking for comfort after he has finished feeding. He doesn't seem mad keen on it though! X

helensmelen · 01/08/2013 18:39

thanks for the reply Wink my little boy is exactly the same! can't tell you how many times I woke up with him still on my chest but I'm terrified he'll fall off or off the bed (when he sleeps in it), our bed is really high! plus its really uncomfortable to sleep twisted around him, our bed is only just a double and he is quite big (12.6 at 6 weeks). we tried a dummy too but he only takes it until he realises it's not a nipple then gets very annoyed! same here with putting him down, nice to hear we're all in the same boat. will have to just keep him on me tonight for 20 mins and see if that works. he feeds for like an hour sometimes too then is up ready to play about 6am! and I thought I'd been tired before...

curlyclaz13 · 01/08/2013 19:21

hi helen, my 7 wo is the same, trying a dummy but not sure its working so don't have any suggestions but you are not alone and if you find the solution let us know !

Steffanoid · 01/08/2013 19:40

have you tried different shaped dummies? there are ones that point up rather than the typical cherry dummy that may help? we have a pointy up one and sometimes use it to help Ethan get back off, also really not helpful but ive heard that some co sleepers put their mattress on the floor and even when taking bars off cots incase hubs falls

learnermummy · 01/08/2013 21:16

Hope it all heals soon for you pinkapples, try to take it easy and limit number of stair trips you make.

Hi Helen, we mainly co sleep here, but in a king size bed, mainly because I get much more sleep that way! Have you room for a bed side cot?

Anna had her clicky hip hospital appt today and thankfully all is now fine. They also weighed her and at 5 weeks she's now 10 pounds 9 from 7 14 born, so feeling proud, the sore nipples are worth it!

Hope everyone's ok and not too hot tonight.

pinkapples · 01/08/2013 21:46

Glad Anna's hips are ok Learner and yes I intend to do as little as possible looking forward to a trip to see my grandparents in Manchester this weekend as they haven't seen Theiah since she was 3 days old and its a 1st meeting for most of the rest of the family too

SunnyL · 01/08/2013 22:34

DH has gone out for his first night out since bubs arrived tonight so I'm being naughty and having a couple of glasses of wine on the sofa with the dog. Bubs won't wake until 3am and she gets a bottle then so realistically won't feed until 6am from me by which wine could be out of my system. I'm also quite chuffed as I have finished making the dress I'm going to wear for Lil's christening which has been stupidly complicated.

Welcome Helen. I have no pearls of wisdom re sleeping at night. However if you have any tips as to how to get a baby to sleep during the day time without being in constant momentum feel free to share! Still it's giving me good exercise trying to make Lil sleep during the daytime!

AmIGoingMad · 01/08/2013 22:38

Pinkapples I hope everything heals well for you and soon.

Sunny- sorry to hear about your DH. It must be awful and like you say he definitely shouldn't have to put up with that! I also agree that motherhood definitely makes you view lots of things differently too. I'm a much more nervous driver since DS, dread to think what I'll be like when I can drive again this time around.

Learner good to hear that the clicks hips appt went went!

Helen- same here! She's great at going a few hours between feeds but isn't a massive fan of being in Moses basket between them. I also can't see her being in the Moses basket much longer- she's getting far too tall for it- where have the last four weeks gone?!

C section ladies- yet another question from me sorry! Do you have much 'overhang'? It's difficult to get air circulating down there with mine! Have just had to put some sudo cream on as the middle bit of scar is red and angry and sticky and I can only think that's down to the bloody overhang! Grrr!

AmIGoingMad · 01/08/2013 22:38

Sorry- should probably have given a tmi warning before that last bit!

AmIGoingMad · 01/08/2013 22:39

Oo enjoy your wine sunny! And well done on the dress!Smile

pinkapples · 02/08/2013 07:20

As I mentioned I'm going away this weekend with Theiah Grin just wondered how many sleep suits vests clothes in general to take for little lady as I don't want to take to little but I also don't want to overpack any clues

learnermummy · 02/08/2013 07:38

Good question pinkapples, we're going away too. Anna still sleeping in just a vest so think ill take 4/5 of those and then 6/7 day time outfits. And loads of nappies!

pinkapples · 02/08/2013 08:05

Where r off learner anywhere nice? We're going north so not sure in weather may look up forecast but its meant to be nice was thinking 2 sleepsuits just in case probably 5 vests if its hot she won't wear them in the day and then like you a mix of outfits for all weathers this baby lark is hard! Not forgetting the stuff she needs for a bath and her bottles oh... And then there's her mother to sort out! Grin

Steffanoid · 02/08/2013 08:31

what kind of north pink? we're in south Cheshire and off to Cumbria center parcs, we've got white clouds a bit of blue sky it is supposed to rain but im staying hopeful.

it seems like holiday weekend/week for us, we've got a spacesuit for every night, 7 vests and am outfit for every day with about 5 spares, have 7 muslins, a pack of swim nappies, 3 packs of wipes a box of nappies. I'm anal can you tell haha!

have a nice time guys!

AmIGoingMad · 02/08/2013 08:35

Have lovely weekends away ladies! They sound great!Smile

I'd be packing like you stef- I always think its better to have too much than not enough.

Anyone manage to have a think on the post c section tummy question yet?

Sarah2506 · 02/08/2013 08:43

We are also away this weekend. I've packed five sleep suits, five vests, two dress pant combos, cardigan, two sleeping bags, as many muslins as I can find. The good thing is that tiny clothes take up little room so kind of doesn't matter if we overpack!

learnermummy · 02/08/2013 09:06

Only down to my parents in Essex pink, but taking tent to pitch in her garden so boys and daddy can have s camping adventure while Anna and I sleep inside!

I love centre parcs steffanioid, have fun! At what stage are babies allowed to swim?

Anyone else's little one suffering heat rash? Anna has little spots all over face. Guess there's not a lot we can do for it.

pinkapples · 02/08/2013 09:10

We're off to Manchester where my grandparents are Grin

Think I've overpacked but like you said the clothes are tiny Smile

Can't answer the section questions sorry having some vaginal delivery issues as we all know Sad but hope you get an answer soon

the swimming is 6 weeks but it has to be in a heated pool as there little bodies get cold quickly were starting sessions at 12 weeks with a heated bodysuit and neoprene nappy to boot GrinGrin

Hope you all have fun on your weekends isn't it funny we all are going off on the same weekends
