Including our friends from late May & early July!

Thought time for a postnatal thread.

So. I'm craving a nightly glass of wine already, week
5 of motherhood. Anyone else?!

Sunbeam in visiting some friends in Fife. Dh and I are looking at a holiday for October, hopefully uk depending on weather.
Tmi alert I think I may have anal fissure Hmm

MrsBri · 03/08/2013 09:19

Sunny, Amy slept 20.45 til 07.45 with a feed at about 2! It's amazing, isn't it?

We just need to learn to sleep when she does and not faff about! We're going to attempt to start a routine at bedtime tomorrow night, I think. 6 weeks seems about right to have a go!

And learner, that sounds painful. Will you go to the GP next week?

Sarah, I think you love the Lakes as much as us. It's awesome to be only 90 minutes away. And most of that is getting to / through Preston!

We get one night in a hotel for our anniversary from the chain we had our reception at. I'm hoping we can go to any of their hotels and not just to the one where the reception was held, as we will go to Penrith if we can. Only 2 and a bit months and it's a year married. Can't believe how fast it's gone!

MrsBri · 03/08/2013 09:19

Sorry, Littlemiss, not learner. Phone typing fail. :-/

MrsBri · 03/08/2013 09:20

And Sarah hasn't been on here either. More sleep / memory required! :-(

SunnyL · 03/08/2013 09:51

MrsBri we started the routine thing about 6 weeks and it is really working for us. We bath her around 8ish and she is going to sleep earlier and earlier each evening after her bath. Gradually I imagine we'll move her bath time earlier. Up until 5 weeks I could barely get her to sleep earlier than 11.30pm.

I agree I should probably go to bed earlier but it is such a novelty to have baby in bed and me with free hands that I have to admit I've been staying up really late doing all the stuff I want to do during the day time.

learnermummy · 03/08/2013 12:33

Arghh screaming baby most of the way and then emergency stop to deal with exploding nappy situation! Glad not much further to travel now! At least boys engrossed in DVD! Had forgotten the joys of travelling with a baby! Hope everyone else doing better than us!

Sunbeam18 · 03/08/2013 14:30

Tell me your secrets, Sunny and MrsBri! Have been pretty much up since 3am with unsettled baby. How on earth did you get them to sleep for that long??

MrsBri · 03/08/2013 15:08

Honestly? Not a clue! I was amazed she did it to be honest!

But, she'd been grumpy and unsettled all day, so was probably just catching up!

MrsBri · 03/08/2013 20:18

We've just put baby to bed upstairs. God, it's weird not having her down here! :-/

She went sleep while eating, which wasn't helpful, but I still read two stories to her anyway, as they are part of the routine we are creating.

Has anyone got a video monitor they can recommend?

curlyclaz13 · 03/08/2013 20:25

Oscar has been awake since 12, I hope this means lots of sleep tonight but I doubt it !
MrsBri no idea on monitors we need one as I keep him down with us until we go to bed as we can't hear him unless he is distraught.

MrsBri · 03/08/2013 20:41

We have kept Amy downstairs too, until tonight. We have a sound monitor, but I think I need video for my own peace of mind.

Curly, Amy hasn't slept much today at all thanks to having constipation-related grumpiness. I'm not sure whether this will mean she sleeps well tonight! Best of luck with Oscar.

curlyclaz13 · 03/08/2013 21:47

still awake, have fed him about 1000000 times since five and he's still wriggling around like a loon ! he also did a fart/poo so loud I actually jumped Grin

MrsBri · 04/08/2013 03:20

Well, we certainly haven't had the same sleep pattern tonight.

Amy woke coughing about an hour or so ago, but went back to sleep, but is now eating. I'm glad we decided on an early night as otherwise I'd be utterly exhausted! As it is I'm just extremely tired so far.

Mutley77 · 04/08/2013 03:33

Our nights are absolutely horrendous. Dd aged 8 weeks tomorrow and can't seem to see any pattern. Wants feeding between 2.5 and 3 hourly and often still awake in between.... Is getting to stage where I really can't cope. Shouted really loudly at ds this morning and hurt my throat :( feel dreadful and wish we could just get to settled nights with one waking for feed.

Littlemissexpecting · 04/08/2013 04:50

We still have no night time routine. I try to get him into his cot around 9/10 pm but he was late last night. Slept 11-4 which is a good night for us. Normally manages 3-4 hours but have had a little more occasionally.
Only issue is he now normally wakes every 1-2 hours until 9am. With an alert couple of hours at 5!! Not sure how I can get him to sleep longer after his first sleep. It's not nappy, has a good feed, not too warm/cold etc.

Littlemissexpecting · 04/08/2013 04:53

Mutley I can't even imagine doing all these night feeds then having to function normally for another dc.
But as everyone keeps telling me, it's just a phase!!

AmIGoingMad · 04/08/2013 07:25

Mutley that sounds really tough- I hope it improves soon.

Things are ok here in that we're lucky and little miss tends to go about 3-4 hours in the night. Late afternoon/evening she turns into a total milk monster

AmIGoingMad · 04/08/2013 07:26

Wriggly baby posted that!will try again later!

AlohaMama · 04/08/2013 08:42

Littlemiss we have a good long first sleep at night, usually 9-3.30/4.00 but then hourly after that till 7 or 8. If input her back in moses basket then she'll be very restless but if I let her sleep on me after 4 then she'll go for longer. Not that helpful really.

OK question, does anyone know how to get baby to sleep with their head on one side. I was very pleased evie was avoiding flat head syndrome as she sleeps with head on side rather than flat until the doctor pointed out that she favours one side, so the other side is getting flat. I try to turn her head the other way but she turns it back. Does anyone know ways to encourage them to lay a certain way? Also when does the head stop being so malleable? Is there a critical time when head shape can be affected?

Littlemissexpecting · 04/08/2013 08:51

Aloha not sure on changing head side I'm afraid. Could you practice some tummy time during the day so she can get used to moving her head position?

learnermummy · 04/08/2013 12:13

There was a pillow I bought once Aloha, called a love nest pillow I think, that was supposed to help avoid flat head. Might be worth a try?

pinkbear82 · 04/08/2013 14:27

I think learner is right I'm sure I've seen a pillow type thing made to avoid flat head. Amazon, mother are or kiddiecare, possibly as have spent a lot of time on those sites!

i already too my hat off to those of you with other dc but i now do so even more. I have the dsc here. A week left to survive. Not sure I'll manage to be honest. They are hard work, one tantrum throwing 6 year old and the 8 year old who never does anything wrong and knows the answer to everything and is 100% right. To be honest and i hate saying it, I've worked with kids of varying age and ability over the years but these two are really testing.

violet's first lot of jabs tomorrow - how have others been who have had them? Do i need to do the calpol thing or.just see how it goes.

AlohaMama · 04/08/2013 17:49

Hmm I'll have to look for that pillow, thanks for the suggestion.

Good luck with the jabs pinkbear. We had ours on Friday and it was fine. Momentary crying after two of them though not for the other two and she seemed fine yesterday, no worse than usual. I think you just have to wait and see if she seems more fussy than usual. I've always found removing the plasters afterwards is the worse part of it!

Hawkmoth · 04/08/2013 18:02

I've never not given calpol after injections so it's not scientific! DD was really odd. Each time the lump at injection site got bigger and redder, we did not have fun. Hoping the baby will be better when the time comes.

Currently she's sleeping at night in two blocks around four hours, with about an hour inbetween for a feed. On the face of it, this is a good thing. The downside is that this doesn't start til 2am give or take an hour. Up to then it's just light dozing on me or DH. I've noticed she's having more awake time in the day so things are improving, just slowly.

pinkbear82 · 04/08/2013 18:19

Yeah I wasn't sure about the whole calpol thing. Don't want to start giving things unnecessarily. Hopefully she'll be ok, she wasn't a big cryer of needles when she was in hospital so hopefully she'll be the same tomorrow.
I'll let dp take the plasters off!!
