Hi ladies,

Hope you don't mind the crash, I just wanted to ask you opinion.

DS was born on the 11th November 5 and a bit weeks early and I'm doing the typical first time mum thing and worrying about his progress, actually what I should say is that everyone else keeps commenting on things hes not doing which is now making me worry.

Can you please put my mind at rest and tell me that its fine for him not to be sitting up yet, he lies on his back and pulls his head up as far as he can with his feet, we haven't ssen him rool over yet but know he must have because of how we have found him. Everything else seems fine he has slept through now for 2-3 months, has 2 bottom teeth and chatters away like mad, he eats 3 meals a day and has 4 bottles and loves to stand up.

My Mum has had 7 kids and keeps telling me he will develop at his own rate and just enjoy him, but everyone else especially the MIL goes on about him not sitting up, I now try to avoid when she calls from America becuase it gets to me so much.

Please put my mind at rest, and sorry for going on so long.

Rodeo · 08/06/2006 19:04

Hi Flutter - I remember you joined us when the babies were all teeny til your Dec ladies caught you up :) It's George isn't it? No I wouldn't worry, trust your mother - they're usually right!Feel free to crash again, had a quick lurk on the Dec ladies thread yesterday but it was a bit quiet :)
Right, will catch up more later, need to put the children to bed

Rodeo · 08/06/2006 19:08

And if he was nearly 6 weeks early then he'll naturally be slower compared to other 7 month olds, more like 6 months? And Jess wasn't sitting unsupported at 6 months, she's only just mastered it and she'll be 8 months on Sat (although she still gets a face full of carpet if I'm not careful!)

BEKsmum · 08/06/2006 19:34

Evening girls

Tex & Londonder fantastic to see you both today and what beuatiful girls Rosie and Elizabeth are, Thomas thought all his christmass had come at once today and didn't know who to flirt with first.
Think Rosie won in the end though as he did the hesitant arm round the shoulders trick, all he needed was a slapped face from an indignant lady! I've posted pictures on Y.

Tex the magic set has gone down a storm and Ben has learnt a few tricks to show daddy already, I'm hooked too - thanks again [Grin]

Bob sorry you couldn't make it and that O is so poorly, it's probably the virus that was doing the rounds a couple of weeks ago, unfortunately it lasts quite a while, however, O will recover from it quicker than you will I'm afraid. If you fancy a chat just give me a buzz.

Chacha, lol at you and the paddling pool, I must admit I'd thought a few times Envy blinking heck and we've got a water ban Grin

Flutterbee, agree with what Rodeo said I'd treat his age as closer to 5.5 / 6mths than 7mths as 6 weeks makes a hell of a difference. Thomas wasn't sitting up at that point either and is now only just stable and he's 3rd oldest on here. So don't let anyone freak you out, he'll get there in his own time & next time your mil phones LIE Grin

Tessa great dinner suggestions, I might just steal those for tomorrow, as I'm going out with a friend to see Grumpy Old Women at the theatre and need to do tea for her and my lot before I go out.

GG fantastic car story, must have been a scary but thoroughly exhilerating experience. Meant to say your dh must have been gutted about the Ferrari experience, did you use it instead or did you cancel it till he can do it himself?

Thanks for the opinions on the HV and Thomas's lack of speech, I'm glad you all thought the same, think you're right about them just wanting to give you something to worry about.
Can't really knock my HV though as she is normally very good and becasue when she asked how I was doing personally yesterday and I gave a flastish reply, she left me a long rambling message on my answerphone today, saying sorry we didn't get a chance to discuss it further and to call her if I need her, which I thought was nice of her really.

Right off to post those pcitures now, glad to hear everyone is having a great time in this lovely unbearable weather. Speak to you all later Beks

GarfieldsGirl · 08/06/2006 20:28

Evening girls Smile

Ooops, my backs a bit red, with a white patch in the middle where my hair goes! Oh dear!

BoB - everythings going really well thanks. DP's not going out loads, being very sensible, i.e. 1 night a week, which TBH, I need him out as much as he needs to get out! When mates are phoning at lunch he's saying 'no' and inviting them round here for coffee. He's been spending a lot more time with Owen too. Hopefully it'll last, and isn't just a thing to prove he's not an alcoholic.

TM - have you tried \link{http://www.socatots.com/uk/main.htm\socatots}? They don't do phase 1 here, which is same age as Gymbabes, so as soon as Seans on his feet I'll be going there too.

ChaCha - snacks I tend to give are things like Rusk and Bonio biscuits (Cow&Gate I think, but they look like Bonio's, so don't worry I'm not giving him dog biccies!), I also give him something of what I'm having like a bit of sandwich, cheese, yoghurt etc. Lots of other things, but I can't remember what right now.

flutterbe - yes I agree with Rodeo and BEKs - don't let MIL wind you up! She was early so will do some things 'slower', but saying that, ds1, Owe didn't roll over 'til 37wks, and he was on time, so they all differ.

BEKs - Had to just ditch the F day, was too short notice for anyone else to do, and the t&c's of the day were it could only be cancelled under 'exceptional circumstances'. Laying unconscious in a hospital bed with leg hanging off wasn't exceptional enough for them Angry so left for solicitor to deal with. Don't get anyhting from BuyAGift. Sounds like you had a god afternoon with Tex and Londoner.

Right DPs back from his fag, so Bill time, see ya!!

Tex111 · 08/06/2006 20:59

Beks, great pic! Rosie looks so grown up, I actually choked up when I saw it. Blush Thanks for not posting the one where I look like I'm picking my nose! So good to see you guys today. Must do it more often. Tobes had a brilliant time and totally crashed when we got home. So worn out from chasing those squirrels. Smile

BoB, how are you doing? I'll send you an email. Maybe we can get together tomorrow morning if O is feeling better.

Sorry this is so short. Off to do some painting. I must reek of turpentine these days!

Hi to everyone!

BEKsmum · 08/06/2006 21:01

Girls just back to say that there are 6 new pictures on the y site, but they are in my album, only the one of Thomas getting fresh is shown as new for some reason!

GG Angry about the t&c's - that's disgusting.
By the way are we related? the things you put, are exactly like I'm about to put, but you get there first Grin We call the Cow & Gate biscuits dog biscuits too and some woman looked at me with pure disgust in the park the other day when Ben said mum can I have dog biscuit and I passed him one of those Grin

Chacha, finger foods we use are crusts of bread & toast, rusks, C&G biscuits and Heinz do a great one called Biscotti, melts in the mouth, oven chips, apple, banana (very messy - yuck),melon etc. Thomas has also tried this week a dummy dipped in lager shandy and a poppadum, but don't think I should recommend those to you somehow Grin

Right i'm off, speak to you all tomorrow. Beks

browniechick · 08/06/2006 21:20

Hi All, sorry for not posting for a couple of days - things have been hectic, and Thomas has still been a bit rough this week.
Am now happy to report he appears to be almost back to normal Grin He went to nursery fine today, and ate all his dinner (savoury!) for the first time since last Friday!!! He also ate a savoury tea - so am very proud of him! He is also having normal poos (sorry tmi!!) again, can't believe I was so excited to see a little turd in his nappy!!!Blush Anyway - pleased to report he is definitely much, much better - thanks for all your hugs, kisses and wishes Smile

Bob - sorry to hear little O (and you) are now suffering Sad hope you are both feeling better soon.

Very envious of a) your meet up (really must get to meet at least some of you soon! andb) all you guys not at work, who can play in the paddling pool and go for nice walks in the park whilst I am sat at work!!!! Oh well, enjoy it!!

Can't believe how hot it is - it was 27 degrees in Ts room last night Shock he slept in just his nappy and his 1.0 tog sleeping bag. Same tonight - but I have a fan on in his room too - it has dropped to 25 degrees, but it is so hot!

Oh and Flutter - I agree with everyone else - your little one will do things at his own pace, and alwyas bear in mind he is 6 weeks behind other Nov babies - cos he wasn't supposed to be here that early (he just couldn't wait to meet you!! Smile)

Hello to all I have not mentioned by name! It's not because I don't care Wink

Brownie & Thomas

Enthusia · 09/06/2006 06:30

Hi all

ChaCha, Sam loves his finger food and we have tried heaps now, his favourites are toast, pitta bread, 'Goodies' carrot sticks and sweetcorn rings, cheese, dried apple rings and the 'Heinz' biscotti.

Had a lovely picnic in the park yesterday and am really enjoying the glorious weather. Was an evil mummy and kept on tickling Sam's nose with blades of grass cos I loved the reaction. Don't think he did though!

Sam loves Gymbabes GG, and I must admit I like the songs at the beginning and end. Can't wait til he can crawl and get a little more out of it though.

Right better go and make the milks am I the only bad mummy who still makes a whole days lot at once?

Byyyeeeeeeee

browniechick · 09/06/2006 12:26

hey Enthusia! No - you are not the only bad Mummy that makes up a job lot of milk - we do that too! It is time saving!
Hope all you others are enjoying the sunshine! I am, as usual at work, wishing I was elsewhere!! (although I am thankful for the rest and hot cups of tea!!! Blush how bad does that make me!!!??)
Looking forward to another nice weekend! My Dad's twin brother has been staying with my parents for the last week - not sure Thomas has quite worked out what is going on (as they are identicial twins!) and he looks from one to the other as if to say, well, I think you are my Grandad, but then again, you look quite like him too!! Grin bless!!

Have a good day, catch up with you all later.

Ooh - think Diege is back on the 11th, or was that someone else!?

Brownie & Thomas

novadandypowder · 09/06/2006 17:21

Hiya 'waves'

Got back on wednesday night and have been trying to organise things for the World Cup BBQ we're having tomorrow.

Naddy has slotted back into her schedule very well, but has started waking in the night since we hired a baby sitter at the hotel and she unintentionally woke her up. She goes down again very quickly it's just an arse to get out of bed.

Only scanned the board so apologies, but I see Enthusia is back Grin

No luck with ttc so far, hate the disappointment every month Sad

Hols were fab, but not very relaxing. BoB - the Quinny was a problem as Naddy wouldn't sleep in it as it doesn't recline. It meant we couldn't take her anywhere as she would only sleep in her cot. Being in Crete was fantastic as all the staff love babies. She's now very spoilt though as we picked her up all the time and now she whinges if we try to put her down.

Got her weighed today and they said she is overweight. She's on the 98th centile for weight, but I've checked her height at home and she's on the 98th for that aswell. Anyway. they've said we have to cut her milk down, so I'll see if that makes a difference. Don't want a fat baby!!

ChaCha · 09/06/2006 19:09

Welcome back Nova :o Enjoy your BBQ, sounds lovely.

Brownie - Had to LOL at T's reaction to twin grandads. How cute :) Well, it's the weekend so plenty of time for you to catch up on the nice weather with the LO. Must be nice to have that HCOT in peace and quiet too!! I think i've gotten used to it cold.

Enthusia - Thanks for that. I want to start the finger foods as of next week when we are on 3 meals a day. I think he's ready.

LO has being sleeping a lot today, we both went for a lie down at 1pm that resulted in wake up at 4pm!! Think the heat is tiring him as he is flat out again. How are your babies finding it? I'm finding the heat oppresive today and hayfever is killing me. On that happy note I'll bid you all a lovely weekend :o

Beks - I had a look at the pics and they are lovely. Londoner and Tex look great as do all babies.

See ya x

flutterbee · 09/06/2006 20:47

Thanks you lot, I know that these things shouldn't be worried about and I had no intetion of letting it even bother me until some idiots just kept mentioning it Angry

Thank-you for making me realise that people just need to be ignored. Grin Grin

GarfieldsGirl · 09/06/2006 21:13

Evening!

No worries flutter, I tend to just nod and agree, saves you getting wound up too much.

Think Brownie's right - Diege back this weekend.

Hiya Nova, welcome back, glad you enjoyed the hol even if it wasn't too relaxing!

Brownie - no thats not bad enjoying some peace and a hot cuppa. My old part time jobs were to get me out of the house more than anything else. And a bit of adult company, even if it is work! And verry cute re your dad & uncle, aaaahhhh!

ChaCha - hayfever doing me in today too. I'm not finding the heat in the day too bad, its just at night that I struggle. CCan't sleep with covers, can't sleep without them...

I'm watching BB, can't believe all these people who've spent hundreds of pounds to get one of these golden tickets!!!!!!Shock

BEKsmum · 09/06/2006 23:31

Evening girls

Just got in from seeing Grumpy Old Women - Live what an excellent show, if it comes to a theatre near you get tickets as it had me crying with laughter, a really good night out.

Welcome back Nova, glad you had a good holiday, got to ask how much did Nat weigh then? I know our two were close in weight and Tom is 21lb 15oz. Bet she's not as bad as my friends baby who was born at the beginning of December and is 30lbs Grin I'm not kidding!!!!

Bought myself a new buggy today as the Maclaren Turbo was doing my head in, couldn't carry anything on it without it tipping over and Thomas always looked uncomfortable so bought an Urban Detour 3 wheeler like I had for Ben and now both mummy & baby are happy. Ben tried to ride on the foot plate today on the way home from pre-school and Tom thought it was hilarious to kick him off Grin

Chacha I'm with you Tom slept from 9:30 till 12:15pm today, shame he doesn't do it on the days Ben is at school so I can nap too. Both boys have been getting up at 6:15am and I don't do mornings at the best of times and especially not before 7am Grin

Right hope you have a great weekend, we're off to Leeds Castle tomorrow to watch a jousting festival

Beks

GarfieldsGirl · 10/06/2006 08:46

Morning! I'd like to pick your brain if thats ok...

Sean has never gone down by himself, nighttime or daytime. He's always screamed and screamed 'til he's made himself sick. So bedtime for him has always been when I go up, so not ideal, and certainly not what I want. Doing that he was ok as the cot was alongside the bed and he could see me really close to him so he woul settle withouttoo much fuss. Now his cot is away from the bed (only about 2ft) with the base down, and has been for about 3 wks, but he just does not like it. The 1st couple of weeks he spent screaming for hours until he was so upset he needed to be fed to calm him down. We had 3 nights this week where he settled really well, if not straight away, then I only had to lay him back down once, I thought result! However, the last 2 nights have been horrible, especially last night. He's ok when I lay him down and am stood over the cot, but as soon as I move away he starts. He'll stand up and just scream so much. I lay him back down, no cuddles or anything, just firm lay back down, but he's back up again. Last night this went on for 90 minutes til he started choking. In the end he went to sleep on top of my bed. I've tried leaving him, doing the controlled crying thing, now I can't really leave him because of him standing up, so am laying him straight back down, but he just gets so wound up and upset no matter what I try. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. I know the heats probably affecting him now, but as I say its always been like this and I'm ending crying myself to sleep.

GG xx

BEKsmum · 10/06/2006 08:58

Oh GG, what a nightmare for you, can't really offer much help I'm afraid but things that I & my friends have tried include, letting them fall asleep in my arms then putting them down, letting them take their last bottle to bed with them, so they are already in bed when the milks over, mobile playing in a darkened enviroment etc, a really naughty one we use with Tom is to leave the telly on in our room so that he thinks there's someone in there with him or we just sit in our room, on the pc or reading till he drops off. Time consuming I know but if it works it doesn't matter does it.

Do you bath him at night before he goes to bed? I only ask as this revitalises my boys rather than relaxes them so I now bath them in the morning instead.

The only other way and I'm sure most of the mums will be horried would be to give him Medised for a few days just until he gets used to getting himself settled down to sleep on his own and used to the routine. I'm not advocating giving it all the time, but it just might help get a routine going if he is a little more dozy than normal at bedtime.

Hope the other mums can come up with some better solutions. Beks

BEKsmum · 10/06/2006 09:00

Blush sorry menat horrified not horrid, our mums wouldn't know how to be horrid Grin

Rodeo · 10/06/2006 11:00

Morning!
Recovering from ghosthunting this morning! Was dreading it but it was actually quite good fun! It was at a stately home down the road, Elvaston Castle, the Most Haunted show did a programme there. Didn't see anything but we did some tabletipping in a creepy bedroom in one of the top floors and the the table moved quite a way, trapping me between the table and the wall Shock! Not maliciously mind - that would have been scary!
Oh GG that sound's awful :( Jess never used to settle herself off either, naptimes or bedtimes. I used to breastfeed her off to sleep, but since she gradually moved on to bottles she has one in her cot and goes off with a bottle. Not ideal and something I'll have to stop but while she's she's still little I don't mind. Do you have the usual bedtime wind-down? Playtime, bathtime, massage (or in our case a quick rub down with baby oil!) pyjama's, milk, bed? Are you breastfeeding? (sorry can't remember) Is Owen still up? If he is he may feel he's missing out? What's Owen's bedtime routine like? Also with the controlled crying think it takes around a week, but it has to be done consistantly. I know it's really hard, and I've never tried it with any of mine (never had the courage to!) HTH!
Yay, Nova's back! Glad you had a lovely time, I'm sure Nat will be back to sleeping through again v.soon. Sorry about no luck ttc, although wouldn't be able to cope with sickiness in this heat, ideally you'll get pg in Sept, just getting over the sickness for Christmas, and you'd have a lovely little May/June baby, which would mean this time next year he/she'd be here!! Sorry to take such an interest, I'm not doing it again but find it sooooo exciting :) Oh and if Nat's on the 98th for height, then she's not overweight! Angry Why did she not do her height as well? She really should have before making such a comment? Being above average doesn't equal overweight.
Beks Have a great time at Leeds Castle. Love jousting - some of the farriers at our yard are in a really good jousting team, I'll have to try and find ot their team name. Pictures are lovely BTW!
Brownie - LOL at twin grandads!
Chacha, Sorry to hear you've got hayfever, does it last all summer or just a bit? Do you know which type of pollen you're allergic too? My sister is allergic to Tree pollen so is only really affected in the spring, if it's sunny enough. I think the grass pollen is quite high at the moment? And also it's been sunny without rain to wash it down for quite a while now, hope you get better soon :) Love allergy specialist Rodeo Grin
My dad's having a birthday BBQ today, so looking forward to that, speak to you later, have lovely weekends everyone! x x x

Rodeo · 10/06/2006 13:18

Not surprisingly, quiet today :)

Jess has just demolished a ginger biscuit while I finished a lime cheesecake to take to dad's later.

Just found a milestone chart for 7-12 months \link{http://www.babycentre.co.uk/baby/development/milestones7to12months/\here}, there must be a 6 month one on there too for the younger ones. Jess is 8 months today and is getting good at moving about, pushing her body sideways and backwards with her hands, she gets right under the coffee table if I'm not careful, resulting in a banged head. She also said 'dada' yesterday quite clearly but think it was a fluke, you can never tell at this age! But she does blow raspberries on command!

ChaCha · 11/06/2006 00:05

Hey Rodeo - Enjoy birthday BBQ, just the thing for this weather. Keep meaning to ask how your grandparents are doing, how is gran, any news?

Just had a look at the milestone chart and then went on to read about ear infections where I read this: "Several factors can increase the risk of ear infections, including allowing your child to drink his bottle lying down and exposure to cigarette smoke". My LO almost ALWAYS has his bottle lying down (upright just slightly) - I thought that was the norm?!?

Rodeo, Hayfever at its worst today. I slept with windows closed last night which helped but on going out to park today eyes and nose very itchy and sneezing/runny nose like there's no tomorrow. I can't believe I'm changing my tune like this but please..BEKS...BEKS!!!! Let me join you in the rain dance.... I've had enough. Have also just read in our local paper that a drought ban may soon be upon us Shock

That's about it from me. Enjoy your Sunday. Time for bed x

GarfieldsGirl · 11/06/2006 08:07

Hiya, thanks for that BEKs & Rodeo, I did have a look last night, but not really able to post. If he does fall asleep with me as soon as he goes in cot he's like per-ching, wide awake! So I just stood over his cot last night and gradually edged away. Took about 20/30 mins, but a lot less distressing than letting him cry (for us both). Hopefully I'll be able to get this time less and less. His sleeptime is immediately after Owen goes to bed Rodeo, Sean likes to sit with us for bedtime story, and Owen likes him to go up with me to tuck him in, and then he's ready for sleep.

BEKs - your boys sound similar to mine, baths revitalise them too rather than relaxing them. I got into the Calpol trap with Owen, and nearly did it with Sean, but stopped myself as soon as I realised what I was doing, so I try not to give it too near bedtime even when they are ill. Hope you all enjoyed the jousting.

Rodeo/Nova - how did your BBQs go yesterday?

novadandypowder · 11/06/2006 14:20

The bbq was great except for the fact that Nat refused to be held by anyone apart from me which made entertaining very difficult. We've been left with loads of food that I forgot to get out of the fridge, looks like we'll be having burgers for the next month!

Nat is 23lb 7oz (10.65kg) and will be 8 months on thursday. I'm only following the recommended guidelines for food and milk so feel a bit funny about cutting it down. I'm going to take her to the doctor this week and see what they say as she's due for her meningitis jab anyway.

GG sorry to hear your nights are so bad. I tend to sit by the cot on a little chair, not looking or talking to Nat, just so she can see me and she goes off to sleep reassured that I'm there. Much better for me than leaving to cry.

Very glad we got the air con unit for the nursery, Nat doesn't like the heat very much and it makes her sleepy.

Rodeo · 11/06/2006 22:08

Hi!

Have had a lovely few days, Dad's BBQ was lovely, we took the 'big' paddling pool (we have a small everyday one too) and the swingball and made a day of it. Lots of family and a few friends and 4 cute dogs :) Today we had the padding pool in our garden, mum and Lau came round, then went for a walk roung Elvo Castle (without the ghosts/seances this time) this evening.
Nova, glad you had a good one too, Jess is exactly the same, doesn't like to be held by anyone else, but think it's pretty normal, stranger anxiety reaches a peak now. Can't remember how long it lasts but not too long :) BTW Will happily send dp down for a to finish your burgers off, should only take him a day!
Glad your night was a bit better GG :) Hope tonight's better too
Chacha, thanks for asking, gran is still in hosp, v. poorly, just seems to be a waiting game at the moment. Jess also lies down with her last bottle. And in her bouncy chair (even though she's nearly outgrown it) or highchair in the day, she qon't have it if she's being held for some reason?
Diege, are you back yet? Hope you had a great time - you picked the right week for weather!! Thanks for postcards! There's a little girl across the road which Joe keeps telling me is 'his Scarlett' even though her name's Hannah! I keep trying to tell him 'his Scarlett' lives a long way away and that's why she writes!! Will make a concerted effort to get some letters off to them this week.
Right off for a bath, feeling v. hot and sticky, bye!
