We're off to messy play at the children's centre this afternoon to give m a break from being in the house. though she is at nursery every morning too.

TwentiethCenturyGirl · 28/10/2013 14:40

Hello!

I've not been around for a while so am just popping on to say hi :)
Planning to have a proper catch up on the thread later on this evening but in the meantime, I hope that all the southern Aprilites have survived the storm in one piece - particularly Yoni (weren't the CIs forecast to get a battering?)

Hope you're all ok.

Kittycatcat · 28/10/2013 19:46

Hugs jolly. I keep saying that about a. I forget he's only 2.5! Hope ur ok. It does get easier. Xx

Hi Aprilites, happy Halloween Halloween Smile

The boys are slowly driving me round the bend. Ds3 in particular has been a bit of a shite recently. Blatantly ignoring what is said to him or asked of him. Such fun

We had a little Halloween tea party with friends at our house yesterday afternoon, and ds2 is really rather excited about the trick or treaters that will come round tonight.

We took the boys to the British Museum last weekend. Ds3 was somewhat challenging. He's at that age where he wants to walk everywhere, but for his safety he had to go in the buggy on the tube and in the stations. He kicked up merry hell. He also managed to get told off by security in the museum for being to loud. He was rolling around beside the Elgin Marbles and enjoying hearing his voice echoing around the hall Halloween Blush I had lost the will to live with him by then and let him get on with it.

However for all my bitching about him, he didn't have one accident all day. He asked to go every time and loudly announced in a quiet echoey hall that he needed a poo. I've been doing this parenting malarkey for too long because I wasn't embarrassed, I just laughed!

What have you all been up to?

Happy Halloween! Mwahahahahaha Halloween Envy

B had a dress up day at playgroup. He went as a minion, with woolly hat knitted by me! Pic is on FB! He got a prize < stealth boast >

It is howling wind and rain here so I doubt we will get many guisers, but I have supplies if they do!

We are over the croup now. Back to normal, just trying (and failing) to reset his internal body clock. I am not loving the 5am wake ups.

I have the mother of all periods today. The Halloween chocolate may not last long.

NomDeClavier · 31/10/2013 17:44

I saw that pic, fizz! So cute!

I have to confess I freaking hate Halloween and in gland it's not a big thing here but I've seen some lovely photos of our lot dressing up on FB and now feel like I should have done something.

If we get trick or treated we have no sweets or choc that I'm letting go of but it's not happened the last however many years so I'm bit worried Halloween Wink

On the 2yos being unreasonable I think it's easy to forget how little they are now they're so big and walking and talking! I have no idea where 2,5 years went!

In other news we have totally cracked poyyy training including at night!!!! Complete with loud announcements - I hear you on that ilike

Daisy17 · 31/10/2013 22:00

Any potty tips, successful people? (Round of applause.) We're thinking of having a go very soon.....scarier than Hallowe'en if you ask me! S has been driving me up the wall these last few weeks too with not listening and being uberwilful and contrary, it is indeed soooo wearing......sympathy!

RegainingUnconsciousness · 01/11/2013 07:26

We've got an unreasonable 2.5yr old too. F's latest howl (and it's always a howl, never a request) is "I CAN'T DO IT" or simply "I don't want to", which often means "I can or do want to, but I want to confuse you so I've got something to howl about for the next hour" Hmm

Our problem is that F is so articulate he's incredibly convincing in his bizarre and contrary requests.

On potty training: I think he'll be in a night nappy for a long time yet. There's a family history. We're having to remind him to go to the loo all day or he'd be constantly weeing everywhere. He still has a small leak most days.

And Halloween: we've not talked about it, and we didn't dress him up. I figure he's not scared of anything much yet, and I didn't want to tell him about scary things yet. He also doesn't really understand sweets! So he was happily giving out sweets to trick or treaters last night without demanding sweets himself! He enjoyed all his visitors, and the teenage girls loved being given sweets by a toddler!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 01/11/2013 08:19

I loved the Minion Fizz Grin , and glad to hear B is over the croup.

Well done on the potty training M and Nom

My two have been completely different with potty training, so I don't have a method as such, but my tips would be. Clear a few days in your diary to start it, buy some pants/knickers ready for training, spend a decent amount of money on a potty/toilet seat - make sure it is sturdy and comfortable, on the first few days you have to be on it 'do you need a wee?' every 10 mins or so, have a cushion that you can punch/bang your head against when you have to clean up yet another puddle!, it will probably be one step forward two steps back - that is normal!

Off to a coffee morning this morning, hopefully it should be two hours of respite from the boys winding each other up Hmm

Oh, and ds3 can now get out of his cot . It may be time to convert it to a bed. Ds2 was reluctant to have his bars taken off just before his 4th birthday, so it's all new territory to me.

Laidies I need some advice. I think I mentioned my work colleague who is having twins. Well, she is in hospital after her waters broke at 25 weeks. She has had a terrible time of it up until now with HG, carpal tunnel, fainting. And now this. The thing is she is phone and texting me, and I don't mind at all. She is in isolation so only has her dh to talk to and he isn't taking this well at all. I just feel helpless. What I want to do is go an give her a huge hug and tell her it will all be ok. But no one knows it will. I keep repeating she is in the best place, the drs know what they are doing etc. I know she is terrified, I'm terrified for her. What can I do?

Work are a bit useless, they tried to send her flowers, but sent them first to the wrong hospital, and then after I said she would be allowed then in HDU isolation they still sent them. I've made up a little box of chocs, snacks and puzzle books. I even popped a ball of wool and needles in, although with her carpal tunnel she might not manage to knit. I'm going to drop it off with her DH later.

Sorry I just needed to offload.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 02/11/2013 11:39

Your poor friend Fizz.

I would say that keep reassuring her that you are there for her. Like you said, you don't know what is going to happen. But help her try and stay positive, maybe text her some positive/healing affirmations that you can find on the Internet? If you send her these texts she will also know that she and the twins are in your thoughts. When I was in hospital with ds1, I knew people couldn't help with the situation we were in, but knowing that people were thinking of us meant a lot and kept me going through tough times.

You are being such a supportive friend Fizz , come offload whenever you need to xx

Poor S, and poor you Kitty. 3am is not a time of day you ever want to see - unless you've just come in from partying! I hope you both got at least some sleep.

How's your friend doing Fizz. I sending 'babies stay put' vibes to your friend x

Poor woman fizz I agree to just keep thinking of her and letting her know. Care packages sound great - she's probably bored stiff confined to bed.

ILTMI hope to cot/bed transition goes smoothly. The novelty of it may be enough to keep him in!

How's S doing kitty?

Much better this morning but hot and clingy again this afternoon

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 04/11/2013 17:31

It strange how much they go up and down in a day when they're ill. Fingers crossed that as he had some good hours today, he'll have even more good hours tomorrow. Here's hoping for some sleep for both of you tonight.

Well so far we haven't had to take the bars of the cot off
(touch wood). I purchased some snap lock nappy pins (evil mother!) and pinned the zips together on his gro bag so he can't get out of it. That seems to have been enough of a deterrent and he has stayed put. Who knows how long that will last for though.....

Do you feel like you're on the home straight yet nom or are you still at the stage where you feel like you are going to gestate FOREVER?

First day back at school as ds2's behaviour has been foul. The teacher says he's an angel, so he's saving his best behaviour for me Hmm

OP posts:
NomDeClavier · 04/11/2013 19:25

Oh I'm definitely stuck at the gestating forever stage.

I also can't find my bloody straight pins and I had planned to do all sorts of ironing and pinning tonight ready for stitching tomorrow while DS is at nursery and now I can't find them and suspect they're somewhere I can't get to so I'm not only have the gestating forever feeling, I also have bump rage and overwhelming hormonal teariness.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 04/11/2013 19:40

Aw Nom I remember those hormone fuelled tears of anger and frustration.

Grr, just wrote a huge post, flicked to another app to check something and whole post gone pfffffft!

10 weeks after finding out she was actually pregnant and not ill with Ebola or something else nasty, my friend has had her twin boys. Weighing in at 840 and 825g (about 1lb 13ozs each). They are in intensive care obviously, but they are doing well. What a roller coaster!

RegainingUnconsciousness · 06/11/2013 19:25

Glad they're doing well, Fizz x

JollyStoutGiant · 06/11/2013 21:06

I'm thinking of them, Fizz.

Kittycatcat · 06/11/2013 23:27

Awh bless them. Glad they are doing well.
