What are the "real" ones? Sorry I'm being dense! They are similar in size to mr men books. Good pictures and there are 68 so, they can go on a 2 month rotation. Some of the names though are a bit unpronounceable. Skaeroley is one I can't get my tongue around, so he is call roly!

And I'm not entirely sure how Sodor should sound either. We don't have any f the tv shows. I tend to sound a bit middle earthish!

NomDeClavier · 23/10/2013 17:25

The originals are beautifully illustrated and quite moralistic Wink they also don't have a lot of the new characters in, so are eminently more pronounceable.

Totally unrelated but M does absolutely mammoth monster poos. I have no idea how he produces them. They're like logs! Should I be changing his diet?!

GlaikitFizZombieFodder · 23/10/2013 17:38

They are big on their morals. Last nights was Bulgy the bus, who didn't like the engines and tried to steal the passengers away. But he drove under a low bridge and got stuck so the engines had to save the passengers and bulgy was left there for a long time before they could free him. He now lives in a field with chickens roosting on his upper deck. He still doesn't like engines!!

It sounds about normal. B poos are looking more "human" for want of a better word. Just make sure he drinks enough because b gets a bit constipated if he doesn't. That is not a nice thing to witness. Well it is a bit funny, with the noises and faces he makes.

NomDeClavier · 23/10/2013 17:50

Bulgy????? Bulgy????? What happened to Bertie? I loved Thomas stories as a child, I don't think I can deal with modernisation.

JollyScaryGiant · 23/10/2013 18:06

The original Rev Awdry ones are a bit difficult to grasp. Harris has no idea why they would need boot laces to fix a train. Neither do I.

Skaerloey is Scar-Low-ee. Sodor is Sew-dawr.

GlaikitFizZombieFodder · 23/10/2013 18:46

Bertie is still there I think. Tonight is Donald and Douglas, I shall report back.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 23/10/2013 18:48

There is a Bulgy and a Bertie. I know too much about Thomas. I effing hate those books, so naturally the ds's love them Hmm

Ds produced a poo that was the length of his potty, it was a sight to behold Grin

How is the potty training going JSG?

We've got ds3 the Playmobil pirate ship for Christmas. He covets his brother's Playmobil so we thought we'd get him some of his own. Nothing to do with the fact that I love it of course .......

Dh and I went to see Russell Brand on Monday night. Apart from being funny and interesting (natch), he was looking FINE. He definitely exudes some sort of x-factor too

Wrote a long post and lost it. I'm no longer convinced that he's ready. He can pee on cue but still seems to have little understanding of when he needs to go. He knows fine when he needs to poo but is very reluctant to do it in the potty. We'll stick with it for a week or so and reevaluate if we need to.

GlaikitFizZombieFodder · 23/10/2013 20:16

Donald and Douglas wouldn't cut it tonight we also had Bulstrode the grumpy barge (quite similar to bulgy in moral value). I amay have missed vital plot points as I turned two pages at once Blush

GlaikitFizZombieFodder · 23/10/2013 20:17

Oh and I love tussle brand! I so would!

Kittycatcat · 25/10/2013 08:13

Fizz will you get b a thomas DVD for Xmas? I've got s a Thomas driving book with sounds. Will send a link.

I just got s a balance bike off freecycle. Its wicked. Will put a pick fb.

NomDeClavier · 25/10/2013 09:41

M peed on cue for a couple of weeks and then over the last week he just seems to have cracked it. I think it takes a bit if time for it to sink in so don't give up jolly. Even times peeing on cue is helping him with bladder control.

Anyone else got a child who goes on strike when you need them to do something they don't want to? M has be one selectively deaf, just carries on playing as if by ignoring me I'll go away. So I pick him up and put shoes on/sit him at the table and he might tantrum by then but the ignoring is just so frustrating!!!!!

GreenFirefly · 25/10/2013 10:00

Yes, my M is selectively deaf too. it drives me crackers.

RegainingUnconsciousness · 25/10/2013 17:10

Hi, it's Friday! Grin

Has anyone else's dc had an imaginary friend?

This afternoon F has come home talking about "Wally", who is behind/next to him.

DH thinks this is a great tool to encourage F to be more cooperative ("Wally needs a wee, do you want to go too?")

It's all very entertaining, except he fell at soft play this morning with the cm and really bruised his head. He seems fine, but the whole imaginary friend thing is freaking me out a bit! It's irrational, especially since I'm sure he mentioned Wally a few days ago, just not to this extent.

Is this normal?!

GlaikitFizZombieFodder · 25/10/2013 17:19

B has a friend called dord (I think is George) which is slightly freaky as George was DFILs name Halloween Shock he doesn't watch peppa pig and we don't call DFIL by his name we call him grandad surname. Does he see dead people..........?

I apparently had an imaginary friend called Fred, only he wasn't just imaginary, I became him! I would run out the room when asked "where's Fred?" And come back in as him. I've always had an over active imagination.

I think it's normal.

JollyScaryGiant · 25/10/2013 19:06

Brilliant Grin I love toddlers. H doesn't have an imaginary friend but whenever he tells stories he talks about GeeGee. He has also spent most of the last 24 hours pretending to be a dog. He eats from a bowl, fetches, goes for walks on a lead and (thanks to my mother) lifts his leg against lampposts.

JollyScaryGiant · 27/10/2013 15:50

Gosh. I'm really not having a good week. DS and I have fought constantly. This afternoon I've shouted at him, confiscated toys, just generally lost it. And spent some time locked in the bathroom crying. I'm just trying to hold it together until DH comes home.

I'm sure this will pass but it feels like the end of the world today.

GlaikitFizZombieFodder · 27/10/2013 16:07

It will pass Jolly. B has been "challenging" this week too. And I don't have a newborn to contend with.

Can you go to bed when DH gets home? Get him to bring DD to you when she needs feeding? You sound tired.

RegainingUnconsciousness · 27/10/2013 16:07

Hugs, Jolly. I've been there. Do whatever will make life easy for now (e.g. F and I are sitting on the sofa, he's playing iPad games, we've got the tv on and I'm MNing, it's bad parenting but blissful!).

Food always works here too (well, frowned-upon types of cereal).

GlaikitFizZombieFodder · 27/10/2013 16:13

Oh yes! I'm bribing b with cheesy biscuits.

JollyScaryGiant · 27/10/2013 16:41

Thank you. I feel a bit better. I'm just a bit fragile still.

I know the whole situation has been caused by me giving DS less attention.

GreenFirefly · 27/10/2013 22:27

Hugs Jolly. It's hard isn't it? M has spent most of today watching tv and dvds while I'm feeding A and DH is busy with DIY trying to get A's room ready before 6 months (the room needs everything doing, plaster, window refurbished, radiator moving!). Its at night when we're getting really frustrated with her though. Waking and crying for hours and can't or won't tell us what's wrong.Even DH (Mr calm) lost it last night. In comparison a newborn is easy!Confused
Fingers crossed for a better night tonight.

JollyScaryGiant · 28/10/2013 09:46

It is tough. I think because H is so grown up compared to R it's easy to forget that he's still a baby too. And I've been getting frustrated with him because I expect him to be good all the time. And that's just not going to happen!

Had a good sleep last night. R went 9pm - 2:30am then 3:30am - 6:30am. Pretty surprising for 9 weeks!!

I'm going to cocentrate this week on giving H lots of positive attention so he doesn't have to play up to get time with me.

He's at nursery today so we start tomorrow!

JollyScaryGiant · 28/10/2013 09:47

Hope everyone has a calm, happy day today.
