Jan 2013 Part 4: More noises, movements and more sleep?! Hmmmm

happyhow · 28/05/2013 17:58

New thread!

I leave B during the night until he's making persistent noise - I don't usually wake up til then anyway! He's always wide awake; he's never done the dream feed thing. I tickle under his neck or blow gently on his face to keep him awake...

He's still in with us but will be going in his own room once his blackout blind arrives and we've given it a good Hoover. Probably in the next week or so.

B is still mostly in 0-3 clothes Shock. I've started putting him in 3-6 vests but his other things mostly look far too big on him still (he's 19weeks). Sainsburys stuff is bigger though, as is Asda.

Hubby has taken B out for a long walk so that I can get some of this marking done. Bailey seemed to think that 3 15min naps today was acceptable so he's been doing my head in and I've gotten absolutely nothing done. He's just point blank refused to sleep today.

apples feel your pain - is it muggy? C has done the same the last two days with her naps, and has been a wee shite cause of it. :s

AppleCrumples · 28/07/2013 20:53

No she napped quite well yesterday (possibly because she was up most of the night before) which was muggy. After last nights storms its quite fresh here today :(

Ivy is pretty nosey and doesn't want to miss anything so it could be down to the racket her bickering siblings were making Confused

Roll on september, the constant fighting is getting on my nerves. Its impossible to deal with crying shattered baby and referee all their fights.

Oh well tomorrow is a new day Grin

Hope Cameron sleeps tonight.

Birdies · 28/07/2013 22:05

Hi everyone! Been a bit rubbish with posting on here as DH has been off work and we've been busy trying to sort the house and things before he goes back. Hope everyone's ok. Sorry about the non-sleeping and whingy babies.

Still 2 feeds a night here plus early waking. And X is not sitting unsupported yet or babbling so I've been trying to avoid googling and frightening myself haven't succeeded Health visitor here tomorrow though so I might ask her. She's not really rolling fully over now either. Is still very smiley, giggly and plays with her toys but seems quite content not being mobile. Anyway, tell me some of your babies are like that too?! She's just turned 7 months though so is one of the older ones I think....

apple I don't know how you manage with so many. With just 2 at home it's constant work, or at least it feels like it.

AppleCrumples · 28/07/2013 22:50

Birdies i have a very serious chocolate habit...

All babies are different and it may be X is concentrating on other areas e.g learning fron her toys or whats going on around her. My ds1 was v quiet and i used to worry about ds2 lack of sitting etc etc dd1 was frankly lazy as once she could sit everyone brougt everyrhing to her. Ivy is the noisiest. 7 months is still v young.

Dp off from tues so hoping for a break. Though dp seems to think we all need to go out so he never seems to take all 4 off my hands. Hmm Would just like 5 mins to breathe and deal with the bloody mess

Lora1982 · 28/07/2013 23:51

Birdies dexter only started rolling last week, he's 7 months next week. It kind of happened over two days I could see him getting all fidgety in his pram trying to turn to go sleep then about two days later he managed it painful but amusing to watch the struggle to get over

Sitting he's sat alone but for not very long until about today where he didnt fall until he tried to reach too far for a toy.

So I really wouldnt worry about her. The latest foster baby my mum had only started rolling at 8 and a bit months and now decided to scip crawling and cruise instead

lollipoppi · 29/07/2013 09:01

Birdies I wouldn't worry, all babies do different things at different ages. DD is not yet sitting unaided yet either

Such a busy weekend here, kids party's, birthday bbqs and topped off yday with babysitting my nephew, so had DD, DS1 who is 2.9 and nephew who is 1.8 Shock my house was wrecked! It was good fun though. apple hats off to you I don't know how you do it Grin

ds1 has his appt with his consultant today to discuss his asthma medications, hoping to reduce the dose as he is on a stupid amount of steroids which affects his behaviour, mood, sleep ect just want my little boy back Hmm feeling very nervous

CreepyCrawly · 29/07/2013 09:59

birdies, Nancy isn't sitting yet either. Like everyone else has said, they all do things in their own time. Try not to worry :)

Good luck with the consultant lolli

Hope you get a break apple

Nancy has a new bedtime comforter, a breast pad Hmm She had some marmite on her toast yesterday, I've never seen bread be sucked so much. So I think she likes marmite

happyhow · 29/07/2013 10:00

Good Luck Lolli. My mum had to take lots of steroids for her asthma last year during a bad spell and she hated the way they affected her.

Birdies, Bailey isn't rolling either. He can get on his side but needs help going any further.

His first tooth broke through over night on Sat! Bizarrely enough, he's had the best two nights sleep in a long time and doesn't seem that bothered about it!

Just dropped him at nursery for his first settling in session. Enjoying a nice peaceful cup of tea at home as stupid numpty that I am, left my purse in his changing bag at the nursery so couldn't go to the very nice coffee shop round the corner Confused

This LO keeps waking after the first sleep cycle too, not sure why.

We had a BLW win this morning! He impaled half a banana on his chubby little fingers and ate almost all of it. Chewing and swallowing like a pro. It's almost converted me to BLW, wasn't that convinced before!

Good luck Lolli

Hope you get a rest Apple - get DP told!

Birdies · 29/07/2013 13:29

Thanks everyone. Health visitor came to see us this morning and is happy with her sitting (or not sitting!) and not 'talking'. Although she said how she would have cooed before and I was like "actually she's never cooed". Oh well, she still didn't seem fussed. I know she can hear fine and makes eye contact etc so I probably just need to give her time.

She is on two different centiles for her length though depending on which leg is measured, quite sweet really (though it wont be so sweet for her if she has to wear one big shoe when she's older!).

And she still has a massive head. But I love her head, it looks perfect to me :)

apple hope you get to have a break soon. It's exhausting just thinking about 4 kids at home!!

lolli hope ds1's apmt goes ok.

creepy lol at the breast pad comforter!!

happy how was it leaving him at nursery?

meringue my hv told me to try blw - I may copy you and go with a bit of banana first

Meringue33 · 29/07/2013 14:19

Cool Birdies, it's taken him about five weeks to manage that, so don't worry if you don't get instant results!

lollipoppi · 29/07/2013 14:27

Creepy Grin at the new comforter!!

Happy, enjoy the peace! I'm sure he will be having a great time!

Birdies, glad the HV has put your mind at rest

Just got home from the hospital, all went well, his consultant has agreed to drop him off one of his medications for now (which give him night terrors) so I might start getting some sleep once its out his system and review again in 3 months.
Both of them fell asleep in the car on the way back and for the first time EVER I successfully managed to get them both out and in bed!
Happy dance!!

lollipoppi · 29/07/2013 14:32

Bollocks!! DD is awake! That will teach me for being so bloody smug! I've not even finished my cuppa !

happyhow · 29/07/2013 16:17

Leaving him was fine. He apparently spent the whole time chatting and smiling! He goes in for 2hrs on Thurs for another taster.

Can't say he's loving the transition to formula. In fact he's making very little effort! I'm trying feeding him one side then giving him a bottle but he just plays with it and doesn't drink anything or just has a few drops I manage to get in his mouth. I give him the bottle either in his car seat or propped up on the sofa so that he doesn't expect boobs... Do I just need to persevere with it and hopefully he'll just click one day? I'm on day three now so still early days!

OP posts:
Pascha · 29/07/2013 18:08

Creepy Hehe at the breast pad as a comforter Grin Glad I'm not the only one still using them. Isn't it about time my boobs settled down a bit and didn't soak me whenever a feed is due, or missed?

Happy glad the nursery session went well. On the bf/formula note, I know a couple of babies aged about 9-mo who don't have any milk at nursery, just snacks and water. They wait for mum and breastfeed either side of the session instead. Of course, they probably eat a bit more than our 6-monthers but it isn't all that far away really. Maybe you could get away without if it came to it?

You know when they are on their tummies, trying desperately to get up into crawling position but they can't quite do it and they give up and flail their arms and legs manically whilst grinning at you? Dan is expert at that, he can propel himself backwards flailey-fishing round the room at great speed Grin He's dangerous.

No speaking here yet either Birdies I'm sure it will come along soon though. My nephew wasn't sitting at his 7-9 month check (as was). The HV was all Hmm even though he had only just turned 7 months old and that milestone didn't need to be achieved til 9 months really. SIL told her politely to sod off and never went back. Said nephew was walking by 14 months, he's now a fit healthy 12 year old and managed Go-Ape for his birthday. No mobility problems there at all.

happyhow · 29/07/2013 19:00

I've heard other people doing that but I'm ready to stop feeding - especially now that teeth are involved! My limit had always been six months so he's just going to have to accept it!

OP posts:
Pascha · 29/07/2013 21:00

Fair enough. Have you tried a sippy cup instead? Daniel pretty much refuses a bottle but quite happy with a cup.

AppleCrumples · 29/07/2013 21:25

Thanks all. Dp def needs to take them all out. Am shattered but keep staying up late as is nice to have time to myself once they are all asleep!

happy glad nursery went well.

pascha Dan sounds so cute :) Ivy is no longer happy on her tummy. Only seems happy either sitting or held up on her feet. Think its because she can play with her toys and feel part of everything when shes sat on the floor.

creepy love breast pad comforter.

lolli glad hospital went well and yay on the sleeping, shame it didn't last long enough for a full Brew

Right well off to enjoy the sudden peace and quiet, might even pick up my neglected cross stitch Grin

happyhow · 29/07/2013 21:33

He loves his sippy cup and is really happy to take water from it. In fact, he now looks for it at meal times! I wasn't sure if I could do his milk feeds using it all day but I suppose they're meant to be weaned off bottles at some point anyway aren't they? I'll try milk in his sippy cup tomo and see how he goes. It's just annoying because he'll take a bottle if me or my hubby aren't around...

Enjoy the peace apples!

Hello All

Back from sunny Spain, had good time and a few sangria and the rest fuelled nights.

DD2 was mostly well behaved, still hasn't slept through but seems to settle quickly and now that she has learnt to put her dummy it's getting better when she can find it in the cot

She's still trying desperately to work out crawling, currently in the rocking on all fours stage and trying to figure out limb co-ordination. It's very funny to watch. She has also managed to push her self up to sitting a couple of times but mostly gets stuck leaning on one arm. Grin

DD1 on the other hand has turned into one of those super brat children you see in the supermarket and breathe a sigh of relief they are not yours. have considered pretending she's not we have answering back, dramatic tantrum crying that would win her an bafta and as for the facial expressions on her.... have to try so hard not to laugh and then five minutes later all is forgotten and she's back to sweetness and I'm still reeling Angry. She's only four, she's only four..... Deep breaths

Just been trying to catch up on the thread, sorry to those still having horrid nights.

Apples, seems like your coping with the hols far better than me. How many more weeks is it???

Happy, good to hear first nursery settling in went well. Re formula/bottle have you tried a latex teat? Some b/f babies seem to prefer them.

Birdies, just try to relax and enjoy her, the time is going so fast I really want to press the stop buttons

Apologies for the essay, oh and creepy i'm still chuckling at the thought of the breast pad comforter

Lora1982 · 29/07/2013 23:37

The chuckling we get when his teddies I talk to him, it's great also the excited shiver he does like the dog when I blow bubbles (out of a little tub obviously)

Not so cute is finding two of his toys in his cot with the cardboard tags chewed up... all tags now removed stupid mother

On the cup front he only seems to take water if its warm I'm assuming its just a case of getting him used to it.

Fx for a good night and bed til 7 at least!!

lollipoppi · 30/07/2013 09:10

ShockShock Darcie just escaped from her bumbo! I didn't even realise that was possible! She was sat on the kitchen unit next to me while I washed the pots she nearly ended up in the sink!!

AppleCrumples · 30/07/2013 10:05

Scarey lolli! They are definately in the 'into everything, can't turn your back' stage!

Lostbobbles · 30/07/2013 10:31

Lolli have you got the one with the harness or without? There was a recall in America for the old style ones and I think you can get a harness fitted in the uk if you have the old style.

Pascha · 30/07/2013 10:31

Oh god lolli Shock. We didn't bother with a bumbo this time because DS1 (AKA Chunky) was too fat-thighed for it so we sold it. I have, as I type just rescued Dan from trying to arch backwards out of his inflatable ring. Yesterday heralded the end of naps on my bed as I caught him gaily flaily-fishing backwards to the edge...

I am on the lookout for an Ikea Antilop highchair because he just hates the old Chicco one so much but will happily sit in an Antilop when we're out. I really don't want to have to drive an hour for £16 worth of equipment but its looking like I will have to brave it. (Ikea, that is. The M25 doesn't faze me).
