Jan 2013 Part 4: More noises, movements and more sleep?! Hmmmm

New thread!

I leave B during the night until he's making persistent noise - I don't usually wake up til then anyway! He's always wide awake; he's never done the dream feed thing. I tickle under his neck or blow gently on his face to keep him awake...

He's still in with us but will be going in his own room once his blackout blind arrives and we've given it a good Hoover. Probably in the next week or so.

B is still mostly in 0-3 clothes Shock. I've started putting him in 3-6 vests but his other things mostly look far too big on him still (he's 19weeks). Sainsburys stuff is bigger though, as is Asda.

Hubby has taken B out for a long walk so that I can get some of this marking done. Bailey seemed to think that 3 15min naps today was acceptable so he's been doing my head in and I've gotten absolutely nothing done. He's just point blank refused to sleep today.

HDTV? Dh even

octanegirl · 25/07/2013 17:42

Oh Bunty you poor thing. I don't have any suggestions beyond what other people said about set bedtime etc. That really sucks. You aren't a failure, you are just tired. Hugs xx

I got all broody over pictures of Kate with her tiny baby and his little hands poking out of the blanket. So cute :)

My not-so-little baby however still won't swallow anything and just shuts his mouth if I approach with a spoon. If I hand him the spoon he does try to shove it in his mouth but with tremendous force and invariably misses anyway. Plus whatever was on it falls off.

AND this all feels very wasteful. I make him something and he wont eat it so I end up throwing the rest away. I'll try just giving him what I have but can't see him liking quinoa much, for example...
Can they have petit filous? Or should I be avoiding sugary things like that?

newbie6 · 25/07/2013 20:39

Hi bunty,

No idea if this will help or not but I echo what others have said about set bedtime routine but also, how long are your LO day naps? Obviously babies need to sleep during the day but I'm sure I read somewhere not to let them sleep more than 2.5 hrs in total during the day as it will affect their sleep at night?

Hope your wee one starts sleeping better soon and you are not a failure, as everyone else says, not all babies are the same and sadly they don't read the same books as us ;)

Bad mum alert...

B is into grabbing everything at the mo and I mean EVERYTHING! When I was sorting out my breakfast, he was sticking his hand in the toaster (he was sitting in his bumbo on the work top and the toaster was switched off at the wall). When I looked around a few mins later, there was blood on the side of the toaster and B was still playing with it... He's cut his thumb and fore finger. Not badly but I felt horrible. He's played with it before but he's never hurt himself. He didn't seem bothered by it in the slightest though and was more pissed off at me trying to check his fingers! So, cue me spending 90 mins cleaning and rearranging the kitchen so that he doesn't have access to the toaster. Moved him to clean the work top under him and he grabs the first thing he can see... A sharp knife out of the knife block! Shock He actually lifted it out... Thank god I caught him when I did. I clearly need to start watching him more...

Then I did 3hrs walking this afternoon. Back in weight watchers and it was also an opportunity to get B to have a decent nap. He slept for the last 40 mins. Typical.

Bunty, we've just come through a bad spell with Bailey I think/hope... He def doesn't sleep enough during the day and I think that's having an affect. Have started giving him a meal with protein in it for tea to see if that helps keep him fuller for longer. Have you tried that? Otherwise, I just have to agree with what others have said. It will pass though...

Sorry to Hear theres a lot of pap going around with sleeping ( or lack of). Bunty dont beat yourself up sounds like you doing well. This job really is hard... Am sure they didnt tell us half of it at the baby classes...

glorious we are now co-sleeping too. We never needed tp needed to before but ita been every night for the last month and half. And back is so sore - but at least it means he eventually settles and sleeps. Dont know what the answer is... Not sure when we're going to get him in his own room... :-/

Lora1982 · 25/07/2013 21:20

Tut we've had a mardy day today. He was tired though so each time he cried if I put him in his pram he'd fall sleep and wake up half an hour later still tired and in a mood. Fingers crossed he's asleep for the night now.

Octanae ive given him petit filous not everyday cos apparently those and the bananas are to be avoided when hes all blocked up.

glorious · 26/07/2013 06:56

bunny we never needed to before either! She does spend the first part of the night in her cot. I'm planning to try her in the next room when she's 6 months because I do think we disturb her and also she wakes me even when she's asleep. But it'll probably be a disaster!

lollipoppi · 26/07/2013 07:43

Bunty your not a failure! Just exhausted! How was last night?

DDs heart scan was absolutely fine, sooooo relieved!! Smile

DP birthday today, were going for a meal tonight, I can't wait! It will be the first night out we've had together, child free !

BuntyCollocks · 26/07/2013 08:31

Shock happy! glad he's ok, what a fright!

lolli so glad scan came back all fine!

Thank you everyone for the support. It's so nice to come on here for some virtual handholding.

she slept. She slept well. Granted, she didn't actually go to bed until 10, but I don't give a shit at this point. She had a very very quick feed - 1 boob only - at 1:30, and then a couple of sucks off the other at 4:30, and slept until 8!!!!!

I feel more human than I have in a long time. The only difference last night was it was cooler, so she was back in a sleep suit and 1 tog bag, and I left the dim lamp on in her room. I've not been putting up the blackout during the day, so figured maybe she likes the light - must be less scary than waking up in a pitch black room maybe, so she didn't fully waken?

It could have been a fluke, but fingers crossed for a cooler night again, and I'll be doing the same!

BuntyCollocks · 26/07/2013 08:32

lolli happy birthday to dp, and enjoy your night out!

I also had a cocktail last night - maybe that's why she slept? Does that give me license to have one nightly? ;)

CreepyCrawly · 26/07/2013 08:55

Happy birthday mr lolli

Pleased you managed some sleep bunty. The cooler weather has made a big difference here too.

How frightening happy! Glad he's ok.

We all popped in to work yesterday. My boss asked me when I was thinking of coming back, and before I could say December, DH said January. Which is fine Grin

Also had Nancy weighed yesterday, 16lb 6oz. She's on the 50th centile for the first time.

I've started expressing a bit now too, so I'll hopefully be able to go to London for a night at the end of September to watch American football. Haven't yet tried giving her a bottle/cup though.

Hope everyone has a good day, very dark and cloudy here.

Meringue33 · 26/07/2013 10:19

Hi all - struggling to keep up!

Glad the babies are ok Lolli and Happy

Sorry about the continued broken sleep. This LO seems to be sleeping better after midnight but worse before. Doesn't want to go down.

We went to see the Boss this week - it was ace - and LO had a babysitter for the first time. He sacked out at 6.30pm but was up twice before we got back, once for two hours. The valiant babysitter - a friend of mine who doesn't have kids yet - gave him milk, changed his nappy, played and finally managed to rock him back to sleep. What a champ!

There was no reception inside the venue and Bruce did about a million encores as usual, so we didn't get back til nearly midnight! I felt a bit guilty but friend said she enjoyed it and feels quite broody now!

Wuxiapian · 26/07/2013 11:03

Not the best start to the day here - ended up with bubs in A&E - he fell off the kitchen table (banging his head on the chair on the way down! I turned my back for 2 seconds and next thing he's screaming on the floor.

Dr looked at his eyes and ears, took pulse, asked if he'd vomited or been extra sleepy - which he hasn't, so he sent us home thinking he'll be fine.

I felt and still do feel awful about it all :(

happyhow · 26/07/2013 12:11

Glad the Dr thinks he'll be ok, Wux. They just need constantly watched now I think... Lots of cuddles for both of you today.

OP posts:
newbie6 · 26/07/2013 14:26

Glad he's okay Wuxi, they need watched all the time now ...my LO escaped out his bouncer chair a couple of weeks ago, still no idea how he did it other than thinking he shimmied his way down the chair, slid onto the dog who is a lab and lying at his feet and then onto the floor as he wasn't even crying when I found him nor did he have a mark on him! Like you, I felt awful but unlike you, I had actually left him in his bouncer asleep and left the room so if anyone is a bad mum, it's me!

At least we have learned our lesson and shall now never take our eyes off the wee monkeys!

X

Angielka · 26/07/2013 14:27

Oh wux sorry about your accident - scary stuff. Take it easy and be kind to yourself.

Glad you had a good night out meringue It's nice to discover we are not totally irreplaceable for a couple of hours once in a while Grin.

Take all the time you can get creepy! Good on DH Smile.

bunty so glad you're feeling a bit better. Amazing what sleep and lack of sleep does to us.

lolli god news about the scan - you must be so relieved, and what perfect timing for a meal out to celebrate that and DP's birthday. Have a big Wine with that food.

glorious when we were on hols the two DDs slept together and to my great surprise, the sleep improved a bit. Now we're back, they're both in DD1's room and (whispers) things are still going ok. We get a bit of co-sleeping usually after about 4/5, but you might be surprised by how well moving her into her own room goes. Fingers crossed for you.

lora hope today's going better than yesterday. We all have our off days...

I totally lost it with DD1 this morning for eating an apple not sitting down and ignoring me when I repeatedly told her to. Not exactly life-threatening stuff but I let her have it. Now I've had a nap, I feel so much calmer.

Next week I'm on my own with both girls all week and I'm trailing the internet for things to keep us occupied. If we don't have at least one thing planned a day I may end up losing it completely... (sorry for the essay Shock)

happyhow · 26/07/2013 20:34

Glad you had a good night meringue!

Bailey point blank refused the formula tonight... Got himself really worked up when I tried to give him it. Got him calmed down and hubby tried - same reaction.

He can take a bottle from other people although he's never been that keen on taking it from us. Any tips? I'm going back to work properly in 4 weeks so want him on formula as I'm not remotely interested in expressing at work etc. Confused

glorious · 26/07/2013 21:10

Yay bunty glad last night was better.

lolli so glad the scan was ok and lovely you got a nice dinner.
wu that sounds scary you poor thing. Don't be too hard on yourself, everyone does something like that at least once I've heard Smile .

angielka that's encouraging about the sleep. I might try next weekend.

glorious · 26/07/2013 21:12

No advice sorry happy .

Today my new toy arrived - running pushchair for my birthday Grin . I had a little go and she fell asleep! Now I can get fit at nap time.

AppleCrumples · 26/07/2013 22:46

bunty glad last night was better. Ivy was up most of night and am exhausted! She ended up in with me just so i could get sone sleep and i woke up to find her happily messing with my face!

wux that was scarey glad all ok. We have all done it. I once came down from checking ds2 to find ds1 clutching a knife. Just remembering it sends shivers down my spine. Even worse he had also got into the red paint... (bit of a surprise he made it past 2)

glorious enjoy.

lolli glad scan ok. Bet thats a relief

happy wish i could help but i never bothered to.move mine to bottles.

Found an old dvd today so i checked what was on it and found my 2 little boys 7 years ago! Ds2 was 7 mo and ds1 only 2.10 yrs! Only seems like yesterday. Makes me feel a bit sad that it went so fast!

lollipoppi · 27/07/2013 08:45

Apple that's so lovely finding old memories, I really need to start taking more pics and vids of the kids!

Happy, i know my friend went through the same when trying to switch to formula, she would do 1 side boob then instead of switching sides offer the bottle instead, at every feed. Eventually it clicked and he just started taking the bottle at every feed

Had a lovely meal last night, was really nice to feel like a couple again! SIL was baby sitting, I put DD to bed before we left, but DS1 was still up - and was still up when we got back at 10.45!!! Shock was hoping for a lie in this morn but no, 5.30am he was up! He is going to be a reet grump today Hmm

happyhow · 27/07/2013 09:40

Thanks lolli. That's a good idea. Will start trying that today. I've also been told to mix expressed milk with formula and gradually increase the formula so a combination of the two might work!

Glad you had a good night out. It's great being able to go out once in a while.

Hubby is currently changing over all the doors in the house and think we're going to go for lunch and shop for blinds! Gorgeous sunny day here....

OP posts:
Lora1982 · 27/07/2013 13:34

Happy I read somewhere to try it in the bath... seems like a faff so id do the boob swapping idea. Although twas a nightmare the whole abcess crap has done me a favour I think cos of inability to boob feed for two weeks he seems to accept bottle and or nips whatevers on offer. I know people are advised to avoid mix feeding because of the old nip confusion but at 4ish weeks I honestly think jts saved me a job later on.

Ive been worried the past few days because he seemed to refuse boob but gulp down food and I know he should still be reliant on milk he seems better today though after last nights screaming fit so hopefully I'll manage to get the balance right.

salt1 · 28/07/2013 05:13

Shitty nights sleep here gonna be knackered tomorrow

AppleCrumples · 28/07/2013 20:08

Arrghh why won't she sleep in the day?! Was all going well. She even went for her long nap in travek cot then she woke up after 1/2 hr and regused to go back to sleep anywhere! Just whinged all afternoon because she was tired. Put her in trusty bouncy chair, rocked for aaages. Still whinging. I had to leave room before i lost it. Came back and she had levered herself upright and is on her way to total escape. Shock

Anyway bouncer is clearly no use now as not bloody safe...waah!

Thankfully she fell asleep on boob and is all tucked up in her cot now so no need to have her adopted

Hope everyone ok, its quiet here today.

salt hope its not been too bad and you get some sleep tonight
