Jan 2013 Part 4: More noises, movements and more sleep?! Hmmmm

New thread!

I leave B during the night until he's making persistent noise - I don't usually wake up til then anyway! He's always wide awake; he's never done the dream feed thing. I tickle under his neck or blow gently on his face to keep him awake...

He's still in with us but will be going in his own room once his blackout blind arrives and we've given it a good Hoover. Probably in the next week or so.

B is still mostly in 0-3 clothes Shock. I've started putting him in 3-6 vests but his other things mostly look far too big on him still (he's 19weeks). Sainsburys stuff is bigger though, as is Asda.

Hubby has taken B out for a long walk so that I can get some of this marking done. Bailey seemed to think that 3 15min naps today was acceptable so he's been doing my head in and I've gotten absolutely nothing done. He's just point blank refused to sleep today.

Bless her, creepy! it is very strange indeed.

I'm also a bit misty eyed - kate looked fab! Little babies always make me broody. I pointed at the picture and told DH I wanted another - cue wry smile we may never have sex again if Cameron doesn't bloody sleep, never mind ttc #3

newbie not mine! She squeaked in on the 29th - but as a potential future queen Wink I think that she should anyway haha!

mrsb Shock ! We've not had anything recognisable yet. Although I'll never forget DH's face when we found a whole mushroom in DS's nappy ...

AppleCrumples · 23/07/2013 21:10

Took several attempts to get Ivy down tonight :( poor thing has been dosed on calpol plus some olbas oil on a bib near her. Even had to feed to sleep which i don't normally need to do. Def not well, just what we need in the first few days of summer hols!

Shes been really clingy today too. I can't seem to keave her anywhere which is making things difficult all round. Dp off soon so hopefully he can take her more so she can get used to being left. Although maybe its a combination of being ill and having an over enthusiasyic 4 year old trying to hold her.

Ooh its all a triak today. Promise to be happier tomorrow :)

After last nights shenanigans, B has been put up to his own room for the first time... Took 1hr 5mins to get him settled. We're clearly going to have to go back to the beginning with teaching him how to settle again. I really hope he has a better night tonight. I made an annabel karmel curry for B tonight - don't think he liked it too much. Was hoping that if he had some protein for dinner, he might sleep better. I'll keep experimenting!

Grin At the poo story!

Ok. Scrap that. Had 10 mins of peace and the neighbour put her bin out and woke him up. He's fighting it again and I refuse to feed him to sleep as he settles within seconds of being picked up and wakes up screaming the second he's put in his cot.

Yes I felt quite teary about the royal baby too just because it made me remember those first few hours and I felt so sorry for her having to face all the attention. Good on her for not wearing a tent, too. Shows it's normal to still have a bump [father I'm looking at you - commenting with surprise at size of remaining bump 2 days post birth is not kind]

salt1 · 23/07/2013 22:13

i must be the only person (well apart from dh to have zero feelings towards kate's baby, am gonna want some of my license fee back if the bbc don't stop it soon. crappy sleep here too and musical beds so we can all get at least a little rest. fingers crossed we all have a better night x

glorious · 24/07/2013 06:49

Eugh poo everywhere from leaky stealth nappy I failed to spot. Shower, change of sheets, wash on, baby grumpy. Just how I like to start the day.

CreepyCrawly · 24/07/2013 07:22

I wasn't just teary eyed, I was crying eyed when they brought him out. She looked amazing too.

After almost 3 weeks of multiple wake ups, we had 8:30 until 7 straight through. She re-learned how to settle herself. I don't know how, but it was cooler tonight and she was back in a babygrow for the first time since the shit sleep started. I hardly slept a wink though, waiting for her to get up.

Hope things settled down salt

They joys of motherhood eh glorious

lollipoppi · 24/07/2013 08:10

Happy, that's so annoying! I always forget to close her window on a Friday morning for bin day.

Glorious, theres nothing quite like a bit of smelly poo to wake you up for the day Smile

Apple I hope Ivy is ok? Bless her, DD has been full of a cold for over a week now, had to take her to the doctors as she got conjunctivitis too, actually, I'm pretty certain it was just snot in her eyes!

DD has her hospital appt today for her heart murmur Hmm I'm sure everything will be fine though

Right off to attack the mountain of washing now the suns back out !

happyhow · 24/07/2013 08:32

It took 2.5hrs in total to get him to sleep... But he went from 10-4.30am. Biggest stretch we've had in ages. In fairness, he would've slept longer if I hadn't gone and disturbed him... The batteries on the monitor were running out so I switched it off and then I was paranoid so went to get the charger (stupidly left it in his room). He slept through all the thunder and lightning though!!

Child no. 2 will def be getting put in its own room sooner! I have learnt that much from the last few weeks...

Off to cinebabies this morning.

Good luck with the murmur check! X

Forgot to ask... I've been breast feeding Bailey but going to put him on formula soon so that it's easier for nursery I really just want to drink more wine Grin

Any recommendations? I've heard SMA can be a bit thick but don't know about others.

lollipoppi · 24/07/2013 09:42

Just watching Darcie absolutely demolishing a crumpet!

Happy I use SMA, did with ds1 too and never really had any problems with it
My friend uses aptimal and also not had any probs either, I think as long as there's no intolerances ect your good to use any

Lora1982 · 24/07/2013 10:17

Happy I give dexter a bottle in the afternoon (so I get a break) I still use cow and gate 1st milk and still number 1 teats. Still worry about milk supply going ary but not so much now he's eating food aswell. I always do 'boob before food' Grin stops me worrying.

Ugh I found a little beetley type bug in his baby rice!! I usually use it to thicken stuff up if its too runny to stay on a spoon (also found it results in easier cleaner dinner times) so I had to chuck it obviously but this means I may have to actually clean the floor and change clothes. Inconsideerate insect (beetle thing not dexter)

I hope lifes finally getting easier for everyone else. I found I have a rough routine and its working well.

Had an 'awww isn't he cute' moment yesterday me and dp are clearly in competition over wether its mama or dada he says first so I spend a lot of time doing mama clearly (who wouldnt :D) well yesterday he started copying me as best he could only it came out as glaglagla :-D

AppleCrumples · 24/07/2013 21:19

Urgh lora that sounds horrid

Ivy not well. She is hot snotty and miserable :( its awful as she is usually so smiley and she has done nothing but bf, sleep and cry all afternoon. Is asleep now in just nappy with fan going and dosed up on calpol. This heat is not helping plus am sure yet more bloody teeth at the bottom are on the move! Never met a 6 mo with so many teeth before. Hoping if she can sleep tonight she might be better tomorrow

hope everone else ok. Thia heat can do one now, is too much!

BuntyCollocks · 24/07/2013 22:25

Want to hit something

AppleCrumples · 24/07/2013 22:40

Bunty whats up? X

Bunny222 · 24/07/2013 23:03

Hope ur ok bunty xx

BuntyCollocks · 24/07/2013 23:22

Cameron is not for sleeping at night. At all. I tried from 6:30 until she finally went down at 10:45. It is ridiculous. She used to sleep amazingly well. I don't know where it's all gone so wrong. DH is pressuring me to either give her formula, which I'm sure wont work as she's not hungry, or use cry it out.

I just want to cry.

Lora1982 · 25/07/2013 07:56

Bunty does she have a long sleep at anytime? Is she having food aswell as boob?

mrsbugsywugsy · 25/07/2013 09:21

Oh bunty I really feel f for you because you are where we were a few weeks ago. I think we were blessed with a relatively good sleeper at the newborn stage so it is a real shock when they suddenly stop sleeping a few months later.

It's still not great but we have done a few things which seem to have helped a bit. We have started co sleeping, and introduced a set bedtime and naptimes.

In the meantime may I suggest Wine and punching a pillow?

AppleCrumples · 25/07/2013 10:09

Oh poor you bunty. Not much help i'm afraid. Is the heat bothering her? Or maybe teeth?

Ivy didn't sleep well last night. She was fine til 12.30 then had a boob. She seemed warm but not overly so. Up again at 1.30 and she was so hot! Cue frantic efforts to.cool her down (hard as it was 27 in our room). Ibuprofen did the trick but she was still stirrung most of the night. She seems a bit brighter now. I hate this :(

glorious · 25/07/2013 10:58

Bunty I'm really sorry. We're still having dreadful nights. I'm mainly cosleeping which helps but gives me backache. Like bugs we had a good sleeper as a newborn and up to about 3.5 months but I always had a feeling it was too good to be true!

We've also introduced a bedtime routine, set bedtime and I'm much more careful about naps - they were regular (give or take) but she seems to want to move them so I'm going with her on that. I don't know whether it has helped but it makes me feel I'm doing something.

The heat is definitely getting to Ellen.

Brew for you. And for apples and all the others having bad nights.

Pascha · 25/07/2013 14:15

We also resorted to ibuprofen at about 2am. Daniel tossed and turned from about 8pm onwards, just wouldn't quite settle but didn't quite wake either, then about 1.30am he woke and that was that, DH had to put him to sleep on his chest, newborn style. We managed to get him in the cot at around 3am and he slept like a log from then on.

Much better during the day. He scoffed down a cheese sandwich in Sainsburys cafe a couple of hours ago. (when I say scoffed, I actually mean mushed and crumbled and spread everywhere, of course).

I'm blatantly ignoring my children for the next few minutes. One's currently rolling around on the floor at home trying desperately to poke himself in the eye with my car keys Hmm and DS1 is watching Roary on dvd. Peace and quiet reigns for now...

BuntyCollocks · 25/07/2013 14:19

Thanks everyone, and sorry to everyone else who isn't having much sleep.

She is eating everything in sight, as well as having boob, and her naps aren't totally predictable. Usually she'll have half an hour about an hour after she wakes, then 90 mins after that she'll have a couple of hours.

I think it's the heat, there are no teeth in sight, but HDTV says I've blamed her shitty sleep on many things. He forgets she slept really well up until she was 5 months, and then it's just been shit night after shit night.

Trying to get her to self settle isn't happening either. She just gets herself really wound up and then won't sleep at all.

Sigh. Feeling rather failure like today.
