Hi ladies

Just thought we could all really do with this. Rather selfish a its mostly for the thousand odd questions I have and things I'd like to share/ vent that no one else would understand.

We've all been together so long I even talk about you all to DP Smile

Sad me too. Im always checking. DH keeps asking too. hope everything is ok.

roastpotatoes · 20/06/2013 10:15

Feeling really depressed about breast feeding today. No matter what I do I don't seem to able to get my supply up. I feed her for 90 mins from me and then give her a 90ml top up of formula. But it feels like she's not getting much from me and the amount I can get from expressing isn't gong up. Thinking about throwing in the towel. :-(

BeauticianNotMagician · 20/06/2013 10:42

I'm worried about them too. Hoping no news is good news. It's the first thing I check in morning and when I have a spare min in day Hmm

Sorry you're feeling down roast. Fwiw I've never had much joy with expressing. It's not necessarily an indicator of how much the baby is getting. They are far more effective at milk extraction than any pump Grin Also, different methods work best for different people. I can get a couple of ounces with an electric pump but very little from hand expressing or manual pumps. My dsis is the opposite.
Is LO putting weight on? Is the HV concerned? If all is ok on that front then I wouldn't worry about your supply.
Just remember that whatever you decide about how to feed, it will be the best decision for your family.

Roast potatoes, this nursing tea always boosts up my supply (I wake up leaking!)

ButteryJam · 20/06/2013 11:10

Not on FB, who is R and C?

tasmaniandevilchaser · 20/06/2013 11:41

Roast same here think mini tas is having a growth spurt, might try that nursing tea but can't imagine having to drink it!

I'm thinking about r and c too, hoping no news is good news...

Buttery r is rhienne , baby is vpoorly

tasmaniandevilchaser · 20/06/2013 11:42

Having time to drink it

MammaBrussels · 20/06/2013 13:07

Is anyone 'friends' with R on FB? Has she updated her personal page? Really hope they're OK

What kind of pump are you using Roast? Have you tried a double electric one? You can hire hospital grade ones from Express Yourself Mums. How often are you expressing? When I wanted to boost my supply (I exclusively pumped with DS) I expressed every two hours (including during the night). Otherwise just drink lots of water, take fenugreek supplements and try eating oats. I think I've mentioned the Motherlove supplements before - they worked very quickly for me.

This website and Kellymom have lots of info and advice about pumping.

mrsmooms · 20/06/2013 13:37

roast, just to add to the other suggestions for increasing supply, if you want to go down the medication route you could ask your GP for a trial of domperidone. I was given it as my thyoid problems can affect milk supply and am now able to breastfeed DD fine, having been advised to top up with formula in the early days. It may of course have been just a placebo effect that made me persevere with the breastfeeding but at nearly 8 weeks my supply seems established..

Thinking often of R and C here, too.

NoForkNKnife · 20/06/2013 13:57

I had domperidone while A was on the NNU. It worked instantly!

My caboo has arrived. Very very easy to put on. A is only 5lbs 8 so I can't really comment on support, but it feels very comfy. I put her in when she was grumpy and crying, 30 secs later she is fast asleep. Good sign! Making sure I keep the box to sell it on.

I've checked on R personal page, an no update either.

BeauticianNotMagician · 20/06/2013 14:26

My Caboo arrived this morning as well and I will be keeping the box too. It's lovely and so easy. I'm about to test it out on the school run. Ill let you all know how my back feels after as a 9lb 11 oz chunky monkey here

I finally made it to a slingmeet today and they showed me how to tie the Moby, which is ace! I've had it for so long and never managed DS in it. M seems to like it (she's been asleep all day!) so it seems like a keeper. It is a bit of a hassle though, so look forward to the reviews of the Caboo.

I also need to sort my weight out - I'm back at booking in weight but that was about 2 stone more than it should be. I'm also allowing myself anything until the 6 week check, but it's turning more into everything Blush. M is doing well though, we had her weigh in yesterday and she's 9lb (from 6lb 15 at birth) very happy!

FrustratedSycamoresRocks · 20/06/2013 15:05

My moby arrive today! Hopefully it will help with DSs reflux.

BeauticianNotMagician · 20/06/2013 17:16

Can confirm caboo felt comfy on but I'm not convinced I did it right. I didn't feel like Ts head was supported enough it kind of lolled to one side and seemed all squished over on one side. I've not used a wrap before so think I need some practice

OP posts:
NoForkNKnife · 20/06/2013 17:19

Ha, beaut I had it on back to front! So much better now. The extra folds of fabric can cover her he's now if needs be. She loves it! I might try and put a pick up on fb.
It says it's up to 32lbs-my DD1's exact weight. Really don't fancy lugging her around in it-plus I'm not
Convinced a stretchy fabric would hold a kid that heavy!

ButteryJam · 21/06/2013 05:48

Is anyone using infacol for their little one? How often do you use it?

I'm using it with my dd as she struggles with pooing and has been very restless. It seems to have calmed her.

In terms of sling, I'm looking into the bobs wrap, but waiting for the sling meet up to try it 1st!

shelly81 · 21/06/2013 10:53

Ladies is anyone expressing so that Dp can give a bottle ... If so how much are you giving them dd is 25 days old xx

Bunnychan · 21/06/2013 11:02

My LO is very unsettled. She hasn't pooed yet today or yesterday and is definately trying. I thought breastfed babies didn't get tummy problems. It's like she tries to poo but starts crying.

ButteryJam · 21/06/2013 11:10

Bunny, sorry to hear that. Boiled water might help?

Finally discovered what my baby has: grunting baby syndrome. It is so good to put a name to it and realise not the only one (thank you google!)

rachywhite83 · 21/06/2013 12:04

buttery - We are using infacol. We started out with dentinox but it didn't seem to be working. We give 2 droppers full before every feed. DS loves it. He looks like a little baby bird waiting to be fed when I give it to him ! It has made such a difference and really helps him bring up his wind x

ButteryJam · 21/06/2013 13:30

Thanks rachy! I'm not sure if it is helping her but I'm going to continue giving it. Read online that it gives baby acne which my little one got. Did it give spots to your little one too?

In another topic, has anyone used the slumber bear plus? I'm considering getting one.

BeauticianNotMagician · 21/06/2013 13:35

Buttery we are on gripe water here now and so far it's working the best having tried dentinox and Infacol first. With my first two Infacol worked.

Haven't seen the slumber bear but we have an Ewan the sheep here and that is working to settle T.

DXBMermaid · 21/06/2013 14:23

I've stopped eating dairy since A was bringing up quite a bit of her feed. Will see if it helps, but am missing cheese!

Just googled grunting baby syndrome, thanks Buttery I think this might be my little ones issue too. Seems to happen mainly at night. She does actually poop, but it always seems to hurt and goes together with lots of grunting, crying etc. Poor little mite!

rachywhite83 · 21/06/2013 16:31

buttery- my little one has always had spots but havent noticed any difference. The only difference is the crying has stopped so im happy x
