Just a quick post from me, we have swimming this morning so lots to do.
Spotty any nappy cream, or even olive oil should help if your DS just has a bit of nappy rash or dry skin. However the doctor told me if it looks shiny then it's fungal and will need cream to clear up. We got a tube from the doctor to use and keep the rest on standby. Typical areas are under the willy and in the creases along the thigh.

emilyeggs · 31/05/2013 08:04

Hope you boob gets better soon spotty. I'm in the same boat about returning to work....will have to sit down and look at figures Sad

ddas it was me who mentioned gina ford and like you, I take what I like from it, it gives me and him structure but I do bend it to suit me. Henry sleeps throughout the night 7-6 with a dream feed at 10 so it works for us.

Henry had some baby rice yesterday, he's not been fussed with it before but was quite happy with it yesterday so maybe he's getting more hungry....I may get a few Ella's pouches that I've seen a few of you mention....just for some different tastes...excited Grin

SpottyTeacakes · 31/05/2013 08:10

Thanks stacks. It's def not nappy rash. Will try the Sudocrem and see how it goes, interesting to know about fungal infections making it shiny

emilyeggs · 31/05/2013 08:44

While we are swapping medical advice my poor boy has some raised patches of eczema on his tummy arms and behind knees, I get aveeno oil wash on prescription and a 1% hydrocortisone cream (which I'm reluctant to use). Do any of you know a cream that can relieve the itch that's not so strong as a hydrocortisone cream? Even the doctor advised using it unless absolutely necessary

SpottyTeacakes · 31/05/2013 08:53

The lump in my boob is the size of a satsuma Sad feeling very sorry for myself.

Emily I'm not sure re the itching but in my experience the steroid cream will clear it up in a couple of days....eczema is (apparently) a reaction to something. My friends baby had it really bad and after cutting out eggs, wheat and dairy it cleared up. Oh I know you could put oats in the bath in an old pair of tights I think?

WLmum · 31/05/2013 09:07

Well that was just about the worst night since she was a new born. She woke about 11.45 - I'd been asleep for about 10 mins and I got her back in her cot at 3.50! She was up again at 5. :-0 going to give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she's got the cold we've all had.

Hello again clarella

I mentioned gina ford in that I kept quiet while someone went on about her. I have never read the book so only have a basic idea. I wouldn't cast her out as she doesn't have kids - it's surprising but doesn't mean she can't have a theory. I kept quiet as its impossible for me to impose a routine on T as she just has to fit in with everyone else. If ginas method (or any other) works for you, do it!

spotty you poor thing, I wonder why your ducts block so easily. Fx it goes quickly.

emily try some aveeno cream on the dry patches several times a day.

emilyeggs · 31/05/2013 09:26

Thanks, I'll start a process of elimination....never realised it could be a reaction

WLmum · 31/05/2013 09:33

Well she lasted all if 10 mins max for her nap.

MaMaPo · 31/05/2013 11:06

Hello all,

I'm back after a little hiatus. Back in the UK after 3 weeks in Australia, and really happy to be here again. While it was lovely to see friends and family, the sleep deprivation was awful and compounded by not being in my own space, and being there without my husband. I arrived yesterday morning and last night was pretty tricky (1.5-2 hourly wakeups from 10pm, with an hour of play at 2am) but it's already an improvement on the jetlag I got in Australia, where she stayed up to play for 3 hours in the middle of the night for over a week. Killer. I'm hoping that last night wasn't just in response to her being tired after the flight.

So she's asleep right now and I should be napping too, but I was too hungry!

Weaning went on hiatus a bit in Australia - I did try her on some pureed veg and some finger food, but most of the time she wasn't interested, or I hadn't had the opportunity to prepare something, or we were out, or her sleep was all over the place... This morning I pureed some apple for her and she ate quite a bit at breakfast so I have prepared both pureed and sticks of butternut and sweet potato and will try them over the next couple of days. A friend in Aus has an 8 month old (who is way tinier than not-quite-6-month baby C) and she went to a weaning forum run by the Royal Children's Hospital, which was all about baby-led weaning, introducing lumps as early as possible, and not avoiding allergenic foods such as strawberry, eggs etc, but making sure to offer them between 4-7 months. (Holy run-on sentence!) All evidence based, apparently.

Anyway, lovely to see some old faces back again and I'll try to keep up and keep posting. Happy Friday, everyone!

halestone · 31/05/2013 12:11

Welcome back Clarella.

Eggs we have Oilatum (sp) for the bath but we've only used it once.

WL hope you get some sleep today and last night was a one off.

Utopian SMP stops 39 weeks after it started. Mine finishes on July 22nd and i'm going to try and stay off till october with no pay.

Spotty, we use metanium its quite good. But thats on girls bits not sure about boys bits.

Welcome back Mama. We wean by giving her what we eat occasionally giving her pureed foods. She loves munching on fruit and veg.

SpottyTeacakes · 31/05/2013 12:26

I've just used Sudocrem as it's def not nappy rash.

Went to town to get some bits and it was so busy. Not fun with a three year old (nearly) and a baby. Must be a combination of goodwood and polo.

Boob feels a bit better I'm hoping ds felt guilty for smiling as I was crying in pain and so cleared it for me Grin

ISpyPlumPie · 31/05/2013 13:07

Emily - N had mild eczema. Think in his case it was due to the toiletries we were using rather than anything dietry. Switching from Johnsons baby bath to Hydromol, and from Johnsons baby lotion to Double Base cream seems to have got rid of it. Hope you get it sorted too.

SpottyTeacakes · 31/05/2013 13:11

Oh yes johnsons are the worst of the worst

Secondsop · 31/05/2013 13:32

Oh doublebase is lovely stuff,

Welcome back mamapo. I know what you mean about not being in your own space: I found it hard when we were away and I had my husband with me!

Thanks for the suggestions re the feeding and Z refusing to feed from anyone else. We had a bit of a breakthrough today as he (after some fussing) took some food from my mum if i stood in front of them and talked to him while she fed him.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 31/05/2013 14:05

Welcome back mama fx the sleep situation settles down for you.

So much for baby rice only! J'sjust eaten a handful of grass in the park Grin

WillYouDoTheFandango · 31/05/2013 14:07

What type of water cup does everyone have? J's is a tommee tippee sucky one but he can't get anything out of it! I'm going to go for him a new one today

SpottyTeacakes · 31/05/2013 14:30

Which tommee Tippee one do you have? The tip it up one is good, the ones with a valve in aren't very good for them.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 31/05/2013 14:34

It's got a valve, pah tesco here I come. Thanks spotty

Secondsop · 31/05/2013 14:38

willyou ours is a non-drippy one BUT it's just a little bit of easily removable squishy plastic inside that is making it non-drippy so I've just removed it to make it easier for Z although I haven't actually given it to him yet.

SpottyTeacakes · 31/05/2013 14:44

That's the same as ours seconds, it just comes out by changing shape in their mouth? Also I like that they're silicone rather than hard plastic. Ds dribbles most of his out Hmm I think nuby make them too

SpottyTeacakes · 31/05/2013 14:44

Oh no I read your post wrong there's nothing removable in ours Blush

WillYouDoTheFandango · 31/05/2013 16:22

I bought new ones but they're bigger than the others. I'll remove the rubber valve from the others so we can use both. Thanks seconds.

I went to Sainsburys instead and spend £60 on baby clothes! Oops!

SpottyTeacakes · 31/05/2013 16:33

I'm awful when I go to sainsburys always end up spending loads when I've just popped in for a few bits!

Ds has been getting his back legs up when on his tummy but his face stays flat on the floor Hmm

WillYouDoTheFandango · 31/05/2013 16:54

That's good though spotty! His legs are strong and his arms just need to catch up. Loads of babies much older than DS can't even get their legs up. You're on the back legs thing again! He only has one set! Grin

I bought loads of summer clothes in a show of optimism Smile

SpottyTeacakes · 31/05/2013 17:07

Grin Oh dear Blush his front legs aren't working Wink
