New thread ladies

Well, we went, we survived but by God the fussing, the fussing...

To be fair, she's certainally not in the same league as many of the MILs of mnet (or GMIL's - Willyou ). She is actually a very nice person who means well and adores her DGSs. The problem is, that she still treats DH (and by extension me) as if he's about ten and it always seems like she's inspecting the house until she finds something, however petty, to point out for us to sort (slightly wobbly table leg today). The result is that I always feel judged, and that all of the low-level fussing comments are criticisms of me whereas DH thinks it's something she does as a reflex action without even realising.

I did let most of it wash over me while we were out, but I think it makes DS1 far fussier than he is normally eg he's fine with the bark chipping in the playground until Nana starts flapping about it then suddenly he won't walk on it . Blimey, I hope it's not hereditary .

Right, will go away and shut up now. Will also count blessings that DC do have four fantastic grandparents who are all a big part of their lives.

ISpy I remember my own grandmother being a bit like that and my mum being a bit eye-rolling. As they get older they will probably see her the same way you do and not be fussed by her fussing.

Stacks we are definitely approaching more "proper" naps and will have 2-3 longish naps per day but if we're out he usually falls asleep on the way home so has shorter naps. We really don't have much of a routine but in general he has 2 hours of awake time before next nap.

Ds has three naps on a good day or two on a bad day. I'm not bothered really, before I know it he will stop napping altogether and be at pre school!

So, this has happened a couple of times now. DS will be on his back happily playing or something then start spluttering and be really upset. At first I thought he was choking on his drool (he does produce a lot!) because he would be struggling, then seem to clear it, and then start screaming. Now I'm wondering if its stomach acid and its hurting his throat? We've never had issues with reflux or anything before, though. Any ideas? Should I be concerned?

ispy that's very familiar! I too am very lucky (on the whole ) with mil (pil is a whole other story) but I don't always like the influence she has on dd1&2 in terms if making them fussy about things or my particular bug bear is too many treats.

ski I'd be surprised if he'd suddenly developed reflux as it tends to get better with age. Maybe he's just more frightened by the choking now?

Well I've managed to make some in roads into the piles of stuff we had everywhere so feel much better about that. Still lots to do but progress at least.

My mum and her friends like to tut at some of my choices (slings, cloth nappies, still bf at 6 months etc) I just roll my eyes with them at how things have changed and aren't those scientists ridiculous can't make their minds up so we mums just have to muddle through on instinct ha ha

Classic was today. My mum's bf, who is luffly, said something about weaning foods so i pointed out that most women her age were told at the 6 week growth spurt that they didn't have enough milk and switch to ff. I was told to go to bed and feed solidly for a few days. Neither is wrong, just different medical opinions and we all do our best for our babies can't wait to see my gran next and point out i have no intention of giving up bf before 1y chocolate cake or no chocolate cake :)

I switch Ewan's harp on before all night feeds. He now knows it as a signal that it's time to sleep. Sometimes if he's struggling to sleep he switches it on himself

I'd just keep an eye on him ski it could be silent reflux, or it could just be him choking a bit as you say. I think reflux can start any time around now, if I remember the kellymom site right. Though I think it also tends to get better at about 6 months. Perhaps it's reflux from something he's eaten though? Are you weaning him yet?

In laws seem like a bit of a nightmare all round.. They do make for fun reading though ;) As long as you can ignore the annoying stuff and laugh at the stupid stuff you hopefully won't go mad.

DSs naps have only had a routine the past few days. I just hear lots of people say they're LOs aren't allowed to sleep past 4pm. DS will sometimes happily sleep on me till 6pm, and usually doesn't want to wake up from his afternoon nap at all. So I'm wondering if its more like his first 'night' sleep rather than a nap. He's generally overtired and shouty by 7 even if he slept till 5 or 6. If I wake him at 4 he's overtired by around 5.

Spotty sounds like a lovely day. Lots if the towns round here have a village "day" which is a local holiday for all the schools and businesses. I've never been to one, but quite fancy it. Not sure if its a Scottish thing or a town/village thing?

We failed at self settling tonight. I've had a couple of successful evenings where I feed him, he pulls of happy and awake so I let him lay there for 30 mins or so till he falls asleep. Tonight he was happy for 30 mins before crying inconsolably just as he was starting to look properly sleepy. I'll try again tomorrow later I guess.

We best have a tooth by morning. My poor baby is so unhappy. He falls asleep but within a few minutes wakes up in pain :(

Sounds like a Scottish thing... We just have fetes and we don't have a school the local school's have fetes but they're always at the weekend.... Sounds lovely though!

ispy my mum often manages to point out something I haven't done - she is lovely and helpful and generally my biggest supporter so I'm not sure why she does it, especially as she knows its pretty full on with 3 los. It always makes me feel a bit overwhelmed as in one more thing I haven't got done. They're always a bit random and minor - last one was the 'mess' (leaves and blown in dust etc) around and under my exterior front door mat that I hadn't swept! Now I've done that wonder if she'd like me to black the step?

Poor baby isthat. You can keep me company tonight then, we're on first wake up already.

Thought i'd better start a new thread before tonight as it seems a few of us may be up all night.

Grrrrrr!!! Quick unrelated rant alert..... Dsd is doing her usual "I don't want to go to bed" thing. Water works now so DH has said she can stay up! If I point out to him that this only teaches her that crying works it will cause trouble!!! Soooo frustrating!
