ddas DS is ranty when he can't crawl, although he has mastered spinning round in circles to get where he wants today so he's been a little happier.

WLmum · 30/05/2013 20:40

inter hula hooping is fab for the waist line. I've got a weighted hoop and said I'd do 10 mins every day after T was born. Done 5 mins twice! In my defence I can't do it when dd1/2 are around (dd2 is not in pre school til sept so is with me everyday) as they ignore me when I say stay back and at head height it would definitely knock them over, and by the evening after eating and chores all I want is bed.

Tonight's chore has to be loo cleaning - they are so overdue. Shame it's a night when dcs are late to bed (due to a lovely day out) but there's never a good time. Hopefully T will submit soon.

WLmum · 30/05/2013 20:41

spotty sudocrem on ds's sore willy?

Secondsop · 30/05/2013 20:43

Hello all, I'm coming back to the thread after ages, so I apologise if I miss anyone's important news. ski congratulations on the house! ddas one of my friends absolutely swears by the Gina Ford book and she's not the type to blindly follow someone else's words. Gina Ford was given very short shrift in my NCT class on the basis that she doesn't have children but I say, if it works for you then go for it; one of the things that surprised me after having little Z is that i thought id be a clueness idiot floundering around and admittedly that was true for significant amounts of the time but i did find that my instincts about what was right for him and me were generally spot on.

So, I have 2 weaning issues.

  1. Z has stopped sleeping through at about the same time as I started weaning. He's now waking every 4 hours wanting a bottle (i know this is nothing compared to what some of you go through!) and I've tried all manner of other settling instead of feeding him but it always turns into a full blown cry until I feed him. Does anyone have any ideas that could help?

  2. he's enjoying solids BUT: will only take them from me!! He bawls and shies away if my husband tries to feed him. I've observed closely and DH doesn't appear to be doing anything wrong with the spoon. Z will even eat fine if DH holds him and I administer the food, so it's not a case of him wanting to be held by me, and he also feeds happily from me in the high chair. Apparently I was exactly the same as a baby!

Secondsop · 30/05/2013 20:44

Oh spotty sudocrem cleaned up willy soreness on Z in a matter of hours.

SpottyTeacakes · 30/05/2013 20:44

Ok will try that! Just left it for tonight it looks really sore but he doesn't flinch when it's touched so hopefully not bothering him too much.

SpottyTeacakes · 30/05/2013 20:47

I have no idea seconds! Sorry I can't help I'm sure someone will have an idea though...

WLmum · 30/05/2013 20:59

seconds I feed at every wake so can't help. With regards to feeding, what if DH offers him finger food? What if you're nowhere to be seen? How about if DH has him without you for an hour then tries to feed him?

SpottyTeacakes · 30/05/2013 21:20

Just had a cry on dp after talking about going back to work Blush I don't think I can leave ds. It was much easier with dd she was such a contented baby I never had to worry but ds is just going to be so sad I know it Sad

IsThatTrue · 30/05/2013 21:22

Oh spotty I use metanium on all nappy rash, it's miracle stuff. You need the yellow nappy rash cream though not the white barrier cream. And it needs to be spread really thinly.

WLmum · 30/05/2013 21:38

When are you due back spotty? Could you do a phased return? I've got lots of holiday accrued so will officially return to work at my full hours (3 days) but will do 1 day with 2 days hols for a week or 2, then 2 days with 1 days hols. I did that after dd2 and it made it a bit gentler for us all.

SpottyTeacakes · 30/05/2013 22:15

I'm not going back to my old job so whenever I get a job Grin

WLmum · 30/05/2013 22:43

Ha! Easier said than done I know, but try not to think/worry about it then til the time comes. He may be a totally different baby in 3/6 months time.
I have been feeling slightly panicky about T growing up and never having these/those baby moments again. There are so many aspects of dcs getting older that I'm looking forward to but...!

ISpyPlumPie · 30/05/2013 22:54

That is strange Willyou, particularly as the HV I saw today told me to "get the boy fed" and to just basically give him whatever we're eating. Admittedly, he is almost 6 months but she didn't balk at the range of fruit and veg he's been having in slices/sticks/florets ie decidedly lumpy formats! It's so random how advice varies between HVs, even those based in the same area.

Tbh, I think N was always just going to take matters into his own hands irrespective of guidelines. I'd been determined to wait until 6 months before introducing gluten, but he decided to grab some bread from DH earlier and he ate it. Oh well, it's only two days early.

Ski - enjoy the new house.

Spotty - hope you are ok. I think these things have a way of working themselves out, and hopefully when the right opportunity comes up, you'll find that he does settle more readily than you're anticipating. Also, with willy issues I'd second sudocrem then metanium if that doesn't work.

WLmum · 31/05/2013 00:32

Looks like I'm in for another unsettled night.

SpottyTeacakes · 31/05/2013 02:07

I've only got two months of SMP left. Dp has said I don't have to go back but we won't have any spare money..

SpottyTeacakes · 31/05/2013 02:42

Ds will not go back to sleep. I put him back down and he spent twenty minutes just pushing himself up looking around burping Hmm smiling so I'm feeding him some more and he's just happily latched on looking at me!

Clarella · 31/05/2013 02:43

hi all long time no reading of thread!

hope you'll except me back :)

been having a few issues for a while, hoping we're coming out the other side now. going to try to make an effort to keep up with at least reading thread if not posting!

love to you all

WillYouDoTheFandango · 31/05/2013 04:06

Hi Clarella welcome back, it's so hard to catch up if you miss a little whole and it just gets worse the longer you leave it Smile. We all talk too much.

Tonight's score: Jamie 1 : hungry baby milk 0 Sad

utopian99 · 31/05/2013 04:43

Welcome back clarella!

willyou I've not told the hv but we've been letting ds play with finger food now he's 5 months, just for taste sake. He grabs for all my food anyway, so it seemed right. Today for lunch he had green pepper, mangetout, tomato and pear to lick..

wl hopefully you're on the road to recovery now?
spotty if anything looks sore on ds I use bepanthen

as barrier to give it a chance to recover, or sudocream.

Smp question- if mine started on December 15th and is statutory minimum, when should I expect payment to stop? My employer has been paying them in later and later, and I wouldn't be vastly surprised if they try to pull a fast one..

IsThatTrue · 31/05/2013 06:03

Erm... After a really hard time getting DS to bed, which ended up with me singing and letting him chomp on my finger for half an hour... He slept through!!!! So he went down at about 10/10.30 and is just waking up!

I have massive comedy boobs Hmm Grin

SpottyTeacakes · 31/05/2013 06:50

Utopian it will be middle of September. I went on maternity leave beginning of November and my lay ends beginning if August. You get SMP for 39 weeks then another 13 weeks unpaid. Remember you acquire holiday on maternity leave too Smile

utopian99 · 31/05/2013 07:06

Thanks spotty!

SpottyTeacakes · 31/05/2013 07:16

Argh I should have known. Nipple pain = beginning of block duct. I now have a massive lump in my boob Sad

ISpyPlumPie · 31/05/2013 07:37

Spotty Sad. Hope it clears soon.

Welcome back Clarella.

Wow Isthat. Not Envy at all, oh no.
