H'okay.
*not all babies will show 'an interest' in food particularly so they will need to be encouraged to do so. I found this interesting as I have been waiting for the penny to drop (not literally) with P but this might not happen in an obvious food-grabby way.
*reflux babies are highly variable as you might expect with any baby. Much will depend on how well managed the condition is. So for example a baby who is having regular acid attacks will have a sore and inflamed throat. Avoiding acidic foods will be sensible because it will burn on the way down. However, a baby with reflux which is completely managed should be able to eat acidic foods without any difficulty.
*many reflux babies and particularly those with intolerances will be suspicious of new foods. This might manifest itself in being fine with completely smooth things but very troubled with the stage 2 lumpy stuff. She advised that once we have introduced the concept of eating we quite quickly move on to completely solid food. This might mean that a combination of the two is employed.
She said lots of other stuff about weaning in general which was massively helpful and reassuring. She did say that for babies who are waiting until 6 months you need to move on quite quickly to proteins and so on. She acknowledged that this can put some pressure on so not to feel bad if we start 'early'.
Basically she just reinforced the 'all babies are different' message and encouraged a relaxed approach. I explained to her that I wanted P to relearn eating and to enjoy doing it. Babies with more sever reflux or intolerances possibly will need a different approach . . As this is fine
