Trib - how about a fan, I've just got ours out of the attic. I have it aimed slightly away from their heads, but still roughly on the cot/bed so that they feel the benefit. ~Have done this for ds since he was born, and dd last summer and it works a treat. Also the dull noise of the fan means that they don't tend to hear other noises like trains in our case and planes in yours?? Smile

tribpot · 10/06/2006 11:40

Tea, he has a small fan but that was no use, I think the big desk fan will have to come out of the cupboard (fear dh thought he might be allowed that one, but no!)

Btw, I notice that someone on the Nov post-natal thread has been told her baby is too fat because she's on the 98th centile Shock No-one's ever suggested that about your dd, have they? (Or did you just ignore this piece of nonsense when your hv trotted it out?)

lummox · 10/06/2006 11:50

ds is a bit above the 95th centile and is apparently too heavy and too tall. yay.

we used a big free-standing fan last year. i think that i slept a lot better with the white noise all night. ds was only weeny so didn't really do night time sleeping but it didn't seem to make things any worse.

sfxmum · 10/06/2006 12:12

hello all at work in office a little bit longer
now can i moan about being woken up? ok will do
apparetly people find they have problems at 1am and page me[angy] i know its my job and all but i hate it.
dd sleeping fine bedroom is the coolest room in house but she is waking up ever earlier, today was at 5.20amShock
leaving office in a while but back tomorrow.
wonder what inane nonsese i will be called about at 1am tonight!!!

fan is a good idea we did it last year when she slep during the day in the sitting room and was boiling hot.

what is this about too big / too small babies? honestly ignore them, far healthier away frm busybodies with funny ideas
hello all
take care

tribpot · 10/06/2006 12:19

lummox - too tall, snort. Is this the same doctor who told you your breastmilk was "too rich"?!

sfx - 1 a.m.! I do believe there should be an exemption for parents of small children from being woken up for any other reason. We have paid our dues in the "early waking" stakes after all!

lummox · 10/06/2006 14:55

the very same trib. when he said ds was too tall i said 'what can one do' which was intended to be sarcastic, but the doctor responded by sympathising which made me feel a bit silly.

sfx - dh used to be on call at night and it was horrible. much, much sympathy.

we're having the same early waking as everyone else, so we're going to try to put some cardboard up over ds's window and see if it makes any difference.

sfxmum · 10/06/2006 15:24

dd looking gorgeous in pretty dress! (so very modest) must pop out and walk about the shops get a paper and such.
dh will be happy to leave the house and escape 'the game' he is very football phobicGrini am far more likely to watch it once in a while.

almost amused at 2 call outs at 1am on successive days. i agree i should be exempt, glad dd slept through alarm anyway

how are yours eating in this weather? dd focused on milk pref. breastmilk, water fruit and rice cakes no porridge today
glad to be off from monday i will be worling every other week until mid july to use up annual leave then have to decide if leaving at the end of august or a little later
decisions decisions must use head because my heart is telling me to run

teabelly · 10/06/2006 21:27

Trib - Nope no-one has suggested that dd was too fat Shock. Both my kids have been on the 98th centile for most of their lives, and although ds is still there (dd's now 91st since working towards the fastest crawling medal in the next olympics Wink), he's super tall for his age and without a top on he has a six pack any man would be proud of Grin, grrr hv's, grrrr! Might search lady on nov thread...

SFX I say go with gut instincts if you can afford it - at the end of their lives no-one will ever be sorry they didn't spend enough time in the office! Wink

sfxmum · 10/06/2006 21:41

happy birthday little giddy one - have a great day.

2happy - many commiserations. have you told people your are preg, or are you going to use an excuse for the no alcohol?

muma3 - glad someone is enjoying the weather. morning waking is getting earlier and earlier here.

lummox · 11/06/2006 07:08

And happy birthday little2happy - your first and last birthday as an only child!

sfxmum · 11/06/2006 07:25

HAPPY BIRTHDAY little 2happy - will chocolate help console you? you can always try maniacal laughter along with bursting into tears to keep them away from youGrin hope it goes ok don't stress.

dd woke at at 6.50 having slept through since 7.30pm so i feel grateful and more rested. off to work in a little whileSad

on the subject of the weather well i was born in the tropics, grew up in sub tropical climate but can't stand heat just makes me dizzy. apparently fleeing northwards to england was not north enough.
oh i don't really mean that, its ok as long as not too humid. but have to say what i like most about very hot weather is the thunder and heavy rain that follows Grin

have a nice day all

Bubbaloo · 11/06/2006 08:06

Happy birthday little 2happy and to little Jess too.Hope you both have a lovely day.xxx

tribpot · 11/06/2006 08:26

Happy birthday 2Happy jr! (2Happy, have I still not put you into the stats?)

And a happy birthday too to little giddiette2, at the start of this thread your mummy was sulking at the idea of you turning 1, hope she is reconciled now the day has arrived!

During our pregnancies we'd decided to set up a commune in France with lummox, but it sounds like actually we need to be heading towards the Arctic Circle - in summer anyway (although cooler weather but no nights at all, imagine getting our little horrors to sleep there!). Muma3, glad the weather is good for you!

With the aid of a fan and no clothes, ds slept in his cot all night last night, til 6:30 anyway. But he's got a horrible rash all over his tummy, I would guess probably a heat rash? (He slept on his tum all night I think). Am going to put some calomine lotion on it when he wakes up from his nap.

MrsWednesday · 11/06/2006 08:53

Happy birthday 2Happy's DS and Giddy's DD. Hope you all have a lovely day.

Trib, how was the Harrogate meet-up?

MrsWednesday · 11/06/2006 08:54

Oh and thank you for the card - love DS's input!

tribpot · 11/06/2006 09:00

MrsW - couldn't make the Harrogate meet-up in the end, too much work to get done argghhh. Always the way! Hoping to go along next time though - a few of them were v sympathetic on my recent 'Avoiding friends' thread. Still can't quite believe I went to have lunch with my supposed friends who sat and talked about Big Brother (which I don't watch) whilst I entertained the six-month-old for them. Still, that's another story!

MrsWednesday · 11/06/2006 09:29

Just read the thread in question - they sound like a complete and utter nightmare and definitely people to be avoided in future.

Work permitting, we could meet up next Friday pm?

lummox · 11/06/2006 09:31

heat rash here too trib - but on ds neck and back.

on a sort of related note, has anyone given their lo a hair cut yet? ds is only just out of his William Hague lookey likey stage but the longish bit at the back is starting to look a bit silly (and may be contributing to the heat rash?

cutting his nails is bad enough and i'd be v grateful for any tips.

tribpot · 11/06/2006 09:31

Sounds good MrsW, ds has a paddling pool as well now which I'm sure your two would help him test out - weather permitting, obviously

katzg · 11/06/2006 09:57

happy birthday little giddy1 and little 2happy - hope you both have a lovely day.

i have bras! yeah! ones which support and shape my heaving bust! its so nice to throw away the nursing bras and once again return to full scafolding! i'm still a big bigger than i'd like to be (36G) was a 34F before DD2 and 34E before DD1.

DD2 is currently refusing to sleep in the evenings, which is a knightmare, we have tried all manner of nap and sleep combos but to no avail.
