blizy how are you doing? Spoken to the not so dh? x

reastie how did the rest of the day go with the potty? - Alice obviously, not you Smile

Well I'm sure you'll all be pleased to hear that my smear went well Smile . Actually it really was no bother at all, not the most dignified moment but whatcha gonna do?

Olivia will be having her tonsils out within the next 6 weeks Smile . All paperwork done, been talked through everything, Olivia understands all that is happening, really pleased. I know it's silly but I couldn't shake a feeling that the assessment nurse was going to say ach she's alright, but infact her reaction was the opposite - another Christ, look at that poor lambs throat moment, so she's trying to get her pushed through - obviously if she picks up another infection it'll have to be put back.

grannyapple how's the pox treating you all? x

ledkr not long to the holiday xx

Ledkr · 23/07/2013 22:11

wiggs do they have to stay off school for ages still?
Glad she's ok about it. Two of my ds had it and were chipper the next day (although ds2 was slightly fuming as he'd thought an operation would be much more fun)
I'm feeling a bit crap tbh. I've developed further symptoms from my para thyroid apparently due to dehydration.
Consequently feel really sick but hardly eating so that's good. Not much of a holiday though sipping on a mint tea.
Luther was good wasn't it? It's total bollox though. That PC that traces calls in seconds n stuff Grin

wigglesrock · 23/07/2013 22:20

I know, I'll miss my Idris fix Smile

2 full weeks off school at least - depending on how they're doing after that. The nurse gave Olivia a book of stickers after the examination, and Olivia said "Na, it's alright I don't like stickers", which is actually true, she has an aversion to things that don't "do" anything or that you can't play with/read. The nurse told her about all the nice things she could eat after the operation and I swear Olivia rolled her eyes Blush . I am fully expecting an AIBU thread to pop up about an ungrateful 5 year old and her Mum who sniggered.

Hope you feel a bit more holidayish soon xx

Ledkr, when is your op? Hope you feel bette soon, it must be miserable for you.
wiggles, dh made a very sheepish and apologetic phone call, he better make it up to me in person when I see him on Friday. I have fingers crossed that O stays infection free.

blizy · 23/07/2013 22:22

Grin at Olivia.

Ledkr · 23/07/2013 22:33

She's a Madame isn't she wiggs? So funny.
Ds3 was similar. School trip to a folk dance thingy once and he told the leader "I am a classically trained dancer you know" Grin also used to sit facing outwards at circle time in nursery. He had his tonsils and adenoids out and wore his fav red joggers down to theatre as he wasn't partial to the "dresses" he was meant to wear.

Grannyapple · 23/07/2013 22:37

wiggs Nate seems surprisingly ok with the pox...he's only starting to itch the ones that are scabbing over bless him so I'm constantly chasing him trying to plaster him in virasoothe Grin. He doesn't appear to have any new ones today so hoping he's over the worst & we've been lucky with a mild-ish dose, tho this feckin heat isn't helping him I'm sure...

Knackered today....woke at 3.40am as too hot & needed the loo then the thunderstorms kicked in (which were rubbish IMO- did nothing to clear the air & virtually no rain)...then Nate woke at 5am & was not for going back to sleep, but wanted to play dinosaurs Hmm. Took him downstairs at 6.30 & sis agreed to keep an eye on him while I grabbed some shuteye, so snatched a nap from 7.30-9.45 felt guilty for leaving her with him that long but she for him all fed £ dressed which was great.

Had mw appt today...4/5 engaged apparently & i think I may have lost a bit of mucus plug (wasn't sure as went last time when waters broke). Sweep booked for fri morning if sod all happened before then...

ledkr hope you get rehydrated soon & start to feel better.

Ledkr · 24/07/2013 09:32

Well I'm officially ill.
I have the kind of d and v that results in a full toilet clean each time Blush
I can hear d grizzling in the garden and dh very slow to respond as usual

Good luck granny hope she gets moving soon.

Reastie · 24/07/2013 10:30

ledkr Sad . Didn't dilly have something similar recently? At least your DH is around to help .

Granny hope things get moving soon for you.

Wiggles Grin to Olivia

Well, potty training abandoned less than 24 hours in Blush . She hadn't done any wees in the potty, which was fine, I expected that, and we've gone through about 9 knickers and a number of dresses, which again I expected. But Alice seemed to be getting increasing upset by it and it ended out in her getting very funny about using the potty at all today and getting distressed and crying for her nappy. I wasn't sure whether to plod on regardless and insist on continuing but I figured there was no point if she wasn't interested and was getting worked up about it so we've put it on hold. Has anyone used training knickers? Are they worth trying after a bit of a break?

Ledkr · 24/07/2013 10:36

She doesn't doing ready reastie I had the potty kicking about fir mo ths before d used it and even now I'm very relaxed about it all and use a nappy for going out.
Leave it a bit.
At dillys music group there are lots of nearly 3 yr olds in nappies I noticed.

Ledkr · 24/07/2013 10:37

I'm not keen on training pants or pull ups. Leave potty around and let her have her nappy.
Do you wee in front if her?

Reastie · 24/07/2013 10:53

Thanks ledkr . Yes I wee in front of her all the time she won't leave me alone Grin . Tbh I would have left it a bit longer only my DM has been a bit 'you were trained by the time you were 2. It was easy. Look she's ready to be trained' . I wanted to get her done whilst I'm off work for the summer but still got a month to go. I think in ye olden days 3 was quite old to be in nappies wasn't it, but now things are much more relaxed.

Ledkr · 24/07/2013 10:57

My mum always bangs on about training us when we were three months or something equally ridiculous.
The fact is that if she's not ready then you can't do anything.
D has never once done a pooh on her potty she asked for a nappy instead!
Leave the potty around and let her be near bottomed so she's more aware.
Fwiw d likes the toilet rather than the potty.

americanexpat · 24/07/2013 14:34

Granny - mucus plug sounds promising! L was born the day after I lost mine. I remember a wee bit coming out and thinking, "oh that's my mucus plug." Then another massive piece came out later and I was Shock. Grin

reastie - you know I trained for the same reason, because I was afraid the nursery was judging me. I'm fine about it now because we tried and he wasn't ready and that's that. Don't let your mum make you feel guilty about waiting a bit longer. Also fwiw we used training pants (the cloth ones, not pull ups) and while they're slightly padded, they're not absorbent like a nappy at all. Fine for little drips but not a full wee - but they do stay "wet" longer than regular pants so maybe more feedback to them. We've never used a potty either as I'm squeamish about emptying it. L has a seat that fits on the normal toilet seat.

wigglesrock · 24/07/2013 15:02

reastie never worry about it, Sofia was exactly the same, I tried her at 2 and 5 months, she hated it, I tried it exactly a month later, she was 2 and a half and no bother at all - done and dusted in a few days. I left Olivia until she was 2 and 7 months and she got it in 2 days and she was dry at night.

I don't use pull ups or anything - straight from nappies to pants.

Anna has used her potty for both, during the day. I just don't think she's quite ready and it doesn't actually suit me to take the nappy off until after our holiday in August.

ledkr hope you feel better soon, do you have a passport appt for E tomorrow?

grannyapple I thought sweeps were the greatest waste of time and then it worked with Anna Smile

I was in ELC today - marvelling at the Happyland William, Kate and baby figure set Hmm . I feel really grinchy because Anna was dying for them and Sofia has a fascination with Kate that borders on love. However I think Happyland Royal family may be a step too far for Mr W Grin . He hurrumphed when Sofia bought her Kate Middleton - the milestones book from Waterstones Wink

Ledkr · 24/07/2013 15:14

Yes we do wiggs at 8.30 I hope I'm better then cos I'm still too weak to get up. Is that normal with d and v?
I'm not hurrying the training either as I'm not stopping all round France for wees and certainly not traipsing to the toilet block when camping.
D has whole days in pants even at nursery but then will moan for a bappy on other days.
She also enjoys a pooh in her swim nappy at the pool Hmm have you ever actually changed one if those? It's possibly the worst thing ever done. The pooh seems to spread everywhere and sticks like tar. Ugh

Grannyapple · 24/07/2013 21:00

Ooh interesting wiggs...how soon after sweep did Anna arrive then?

wigglesrock · 24/07/2013 21:19

I had a sweep with Anna at about noon, even then the midwife was a bit "nah, not sure it'll work", I went for a really long walk with the girls. Realised after putting them to bed and running around that I was in quite a bit of pain Blush In the end had a bit of a mad dash to hospital for about 10pm, she was born at 1am. I was overdue with both Sofia and Olivia - was induced with O, but Anna was a day early!

OP posts:
Grannyapple · 24/07/2013 21:36

Hmm interesting...been for long walks the past few days & defo waddling today. Hoping I'll go before needing the sweep (that happened last time...waters broke night before I was due to go in)...but is reassuring to know that sweep can work Smile.

Reastie · 25/07/2013 06:41

Ohh granny hope it does get things moving for you (or even better you don't need it at all)

I won £150 from a secret mn feedback thread Grin . I haven't told DH Blush as he'll just say we should spend it on bills/savings/the kitchen and I'm really tempted to splurge it on some retail therapy. IABU to not tell him aren't I.....

Ledkr how are you feeling today for the apt? FWIW I'd say D&V can make you feel like that - you're ill and you have nothing in you to keep you going. I'm imagining a bit of a weak shaky ledkr today but hope you feel better soon.

Wiggles yes I saw the wills and kate happyland in ELC on Monday and was very tempted. It took all my strength not to buy it Blush

Ledkr · 25/07/2013 08:15

reastie yes spend it but I'm a bit Hmm that you can't tell him, but then you know me by now Grin
Happy land W n K is just meh! Well done for not succumbing.
I am still ill (think eye if needle) dh has taken Ella to get passport as I'm on the loo every five mins. Will call dr in a bit for anti biotics as it might be an infection and we are sailing tomorrow Hmm
At this rate ill be digging out my bikini.

blizy · 25/07/2013 08:35

Ledkr, yikes I hope you feel better soon.

Reastie, I'm with ledkr, spend it, go on treat yourself. I would also tell dh exactly what you plan to do with it.

Reastie · 25/07/2013 08:54

Yes, I can tell him, and he will let me spend it on whatever I want, but he'll give me the Hmm look that I should put it towards something sensible. It's my issue really for not wanting to feel guilty at splurging as I know he'll (unintentionally) make me feel guilty. Stupid conscience that I should be more sensible!

Ledkr hope you feel better quickly, can't think sailing would be good at all with d&v.

Ledkr · 25/07/2013 09:05

Dr has prescribed me some "stuff"
Reastie I'd buy something nice and then swan around in it provocatively!! Saying "do you like my new clothes?"
My ex once told me a new skirt was tarty so I wore it everyday for a week
