Instead of marking place, please could those of us with older siblings post something (positive) they are looking forward to as our babies get older. I think it would cheer us up since so many are struggling at the moment.

I really regret not buying the Ikea high chair. I didn't know about its faulousness when we got the Chicco expensive one (though that has been pretty much the only big baby item we got new). Granted it's comfy and DD spent hours in it playing and watching us, but it takes up heaps of space and is a bugger to clean. The ikea one rocks, we had one in a gite we rented last year.

Really heavy snow here now. DH will spend hours getting home.

Donnadoon · 12/03/2013 13:03

I love the blow up cushion that you can buy with said ikea high chair..stops dd lollpying all over the place.
I wonder how their meet up is going up in Glasgow Envy

Elizadoesdolittle · 12/03/2013 13:09

Thanks all. seems like the vote goes to the cot. I knew it would be, I'm just being silly about it! We only have an (enormous) bed in our room plus 2 small bedside tables and fitted wardrobes and there's just enough room for the Moses basket and us to get dressed so moving the cot into our room isn't an option. DD1 has a bigger room but can't be arsed to change rooms, especially as we are due to move at the end of April. The cot would fit in our room then but hopefully by that time she'll be settled in her own room. I need to man up as my DH would say. I do have a video monitor though so that will help.

Not sure what the long term plan is with E. she still won't take a bottle so we are just working towards getting her to take milk from a cup and eating from the spoon. I doubt she'll ever take a bottle but can't be tube fed forever. Im continuing to bf and will pump regularly when out (my hospital one broke) so hopefully my supply will increase. We are going to be assigned a home community team who will manage E once we are out so we will be well looked after.

luis what you say makes perfect sense.

Elizadoesdolittle · 12/03/2013 13:12

Oh and another vote for the ikea high chair. At home we have a trip trapp as I wanted DD1 to sit properly at the table with us. I do love it however I got the ikea one for the in laws and its fab. So easy to clean and take apart. An absolutely brilliant buy.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 12/03/2013 14:00

eliza I would go cot too. Come home start a fresh.

luis I empathise. I will be downsizing my life in the autumn. Moving to the middle of nowhere, giving up my career, being completely financially dependant on DH. It is daunting. I am excited but I know this is going to be a big change for me. I think it will take a while to adjust.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 12/03/2013 14:00

Oh and contra please tell me you have been watching Stella on Sky 1.

sweetpea1112 · 12/03/2013 14:46

I am so proud of my boy! Just gone down for nap #3 of the day and none of them on me!

He woke up each time I put him down but just sent himself to sleep. On the right track to self settling at last.

YellowWellies · 12/03/2013 15:08

Sweet pea you've inspired me - when Jonas is well I'm going to start him napping in his crib.

Eerrrrr how on earth did you achieve it?

sweetpea1112 · 12/03/2013 15:16

YW only the first nap of the day is in the cot, the others are on a big cushion on the sofa (so I still can't leave the room but can at least leave the sofa myself!)

I can't say that I did anything in particular. I think he was going through a developmental leap and needed the comfort, which he has now come out of. I also think that giving him the comfort he needed made him more confident in sleeping alone

In practical terms, I have been getting him to sleep in the same way every nap time for a week or so - by holding him against my chest and swaying - he goes off a lot quicker now and definitely knows that the holding and swaying means sleep. Maybe this gets him in the right frame of mind and he knows it is sleep time?

He does love his sleep and naps after 90mins awake time pretty much religiously. I am pretty militant about this but he genuinely seems sleepy at these times.

I think sticking to the 90mins and having the same swaying to sleep routine helps him know it is sleep time and he doesn't fight it.

Could all be bollocks of course Grin. I am sure it will all go Tits up tomorrow.

Pikz · 12/03/2013 15:33

Well done sweetpea...I managed one out of three in the cot...

I too find swaying and cuddling works. The other two sleeps have been in the lie flat maclaren buggy. It seems to work a treat.

YellowWellies · 12/03/2013 15:34

I sway and sing Jonas to sleep every 1.5 - 2 hours of awake time too. How long does your LO stay asleep for? I'm somehow in the daft position of being able to get more done when he's awake than when he's napping!!!

YellowWellies · 12/03/2013 15:35

I am getting lots of reading done though. hmmm gift, horse, mouth?

gardenpixie32 · 12/03/2013 15:36

I have been called up for Jury Duty. What a pain in the arse. Who do they expect to look after the twins for 2 weeks? DP can't take all that time off work. Am highly annoyed about it. Will ask for a deferral. Why couldn't it have been the last 33 years when I had no children?

sweetpea1112 · 12/03/2013 15:45

Morning nap is usually 50mins ish. Then 2.5 hours over lunch. Then another hour maybe in the afternoon. Then perhaps 30 mins in the evening.

His naps today have been about 15mins shorter than usual so not too bad.

I too have been doing a lot of reading! Didn't know what to do with myself during today's naps!

TheDetective · 12/03/2013 15:45

Am sitting here seething.

O was weighed this morning. In 2 weeks he has put on 1000g. Or gone from 13lb 14, to 14lb 1. This means he is sliding down his line, where as he was heading for the 50th centile, he is going back to the 25th.

HV wanted him to been seen urgently by GP, wants a paed referral etc.

Rang GP's and explained, but told to ring back at 1.30 for an afternoon appt (this was at 1115). I started ringing at 1.28 determined to get through quickly. Their automated message was playing 'the surgery is now closed for staff training you mean lunch please ring back at 1.30. I rang and rang over and over kept getting the message. At 1.32 it changed to an engaged tone. At 1.33 I got through. To be told the next available appt is 4.50!!! ARE YOU TAKING THE PISS?

An urgent appt? When they tell you they don't book afternoon appts til 1.30. They can't possibly have gone in 1 minute. Fuckers. Am mega annoyed.

O has only just fed again at 3pm, since 0740, and he screamed after 3oz as usual, spitting it out, arching etc etc. He just can't take any more.

He was clearly still hungry though. He's only just stopped screaming and gone to sleep instead. Bearing in mind he has slept pretty much all day too. He was awake for about 30 minutes this morning, and then 30 minutes for feeding and winding.

I may have threatened the GP's practice with taking him to A&E Blush

TheDetective · 12/03/2013 15:51

Sorry for the rant. Blush

DP had enough of hearing me whinge. Blush Blush

gardenpixie32 · 12/03/2013 15:56

Detective they can do a PAU (I think is what it's called but no idea what it stands for), this will get you an appointment with pediatrician asap. Ask GP about it.

ShellyBobbs · 12/03/2013 16:02

Poor O, sounds like he's got absolutely no energy. Hugs Detective hope you get some proper help soon. Will he take any from a spoon sat up? Sad

Contradictionincarnate · 12/03/2013 16:03

Sophia no not seen Stella is it any good?

Pikz · 12/03/2013 16:07

Massive hugs to O and you Det. Really hoping this gets sorted soon.

garden Paeds assessment unit. I'm not sure. He needs a proper management plan, which will probably need senior imput to make me happy. Paeds assessment is only staffed by the reg and SHO who are also covering childrens ward, maternity and A&E.

Shelly He is just spitting back anything we try. Have tried cup, syringe, sitting, lying, semi sitting, swing... he is now awake, and seems okay, just had a big vomit, so is lay in his nappy rolling side to side between my feet.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 12/03/2013 16:13

contra it is really really good. I can not find anyone else who has discovered it.

sweetpea1112 · 12/03/2013 16:14

Oh detective poor O. I have every confidence in you fighting for what he needs though.

Contradictionincarnate · 12/03/2013 16:26

I think you would be hard pressed to find someone who didn't love Gavin and Stacey here! everyone started saying O o o o o even though its a Cardiff thing!!
det I have every confidence too that you will fight for what O needs ... a pity you have to though is bad enough coping with the Lo problems let alone the red tape and staff!! Sad deep sympathy!,
