And we're teething. Bugger.

Equimum · 04/03/2013 15:17

spotty glad the ECG was all okay.

Honey I hope teething doesn't prove too awful for you and your little one.

We suddenly have another dribbly baby here too- it's only started in the last week and I have no idea why.

Went to a local BF drop-in today. Support was really useful but I was hit by a sense of sadness that my LO is so big and physically developing so fast. I asked a lady how old her baby was because she was so dinky and newborn like and she was born the same as my LO. Her baby was still quite curled up and very weak- fragile looking, while mine, who is nearly 4lb bigger than hers looks more like the 4-6 month old (he's 9 weeks and very long). He was never really newborn-like, being alert and strong from the outset. At 10 days the midwife commented on his strength and head-lifting and I've had several people tell me 'he'a been here before'. He really does look like an old head on a (big) babies bodies. Don't get me wrong, I love him to bits and think he's perfect, but feel we missed on the fragile newborn. Does anyone else ever feel like this?

HoneyMumandSon · 04/03/2013 15:20

Really pleased ECG went well spotty

Chloe55 · 04/03/2013 15:36

equimum I had that feeling with ds-he was 9lb10oz at birth and even at 7 is the tallest in his class. Dd, despite being 8lb 5oz at birth seems dinky in comparison, I love it but dh preferred the chunkiness of ds (prob because he's so clumsy!) Having said that she's very alert, has held her head well from being tiny and never felt truly 'newborn'

Chloe55 · 04/03/2013 15:37

Great news spotty Smile

Fantastic news about the ECG Spotty.

Equimum - sounds v like my experience with DS1. He was big from birth and never seemed to go through a 'newborn' phase. He was also strong and seemed to hit quite a few milestones early - I'd get the "he's been here before" comment too! N was more like a newborn initially - more of an average size and more curled up, but he had a growth spurt early on and is now v similar to his big bro. I totally understand what you mean about missing out on the fragile newborn. Also feel generally that every stage seems to really quickly - I'm constantly torn between being pround of how they're growing/the latest new thing they've done and wishing they wouldn't grow up so fast Grin.

ISpyPlumPie · 04/03/2013 15:46

Obv meant N is similar to DS1 in being big for his age - not similar as in actually being the size of a three year old already Confused Grin

Honey the Nelson's Teetha granules are also great for teething and can be used with the other stuff you have. Ds has put on over a pound in two weeks Shock 12lb14 at fourteen weeks Smile makes all the feeding worth it

MaMaPo · 04/03/2013 16:57

Honey, how do you know it's teething? Dribbling, red cheeks, anything else?

Chloe - glad you had a good night!

SpottyTeacakes · 04/03/2013 17:02

Ummm red cheeks, dribbling, chewing on anything, crying, general grumpiness, temp (but not a fever), runny nose, bad nappies.

Not all babies get these symptoms Smile

MaMaPo · 04/03/2013 17:18

Hmm, so my drooly, grumpy baby could be teething - somehow I suspect general bad mood!

I think we have hit a growth spurt - long feeds every 1.5 hours this afternoon.

OP posts:
Barbeasty · 04/03/2013 17:22

And symptoms can go on for months before any teeth actually appear!

We've all got colds here, and poor A found it difficult to sleep through all his snuffling last night as did I but I did get the first 2 hours with him in his crib, which is the longest he's gone in there.

We made up the cot at last too, and I put him in it while I got DD dressed this morning. He promptly fell asleep and I got a shower and managed to get lunch ready before he woke up.

Seconds- could it be that he's thirsty rather than hungry, due to the heat, so doesn't want the thicker formula and is getting mostly foremilk from you? Could explain the lack of appetite and green poos.

HoneyMumandSon · 04/03/2013 18:47

We've been dribbly, a bit sick, horrendous nappies, screaming abd a white tipped lump on his gum confirmed it.

Thanks spotty have boots own brand teething granules as had sold out if Nelsons which seem to be helping a little but I heard Nelsons are much better when we can get them.

HoneyMumandSon · 04/03/2013 18:48

Oh yeah and chewing on anything he can get in his mouth including my nipple

EggsMichelle · 04/03/2013 19:03

Fantastic news Spotty for heart and growth!

Mamapo ours always have a change in behaviour at the same time, but it only when you mention it that I notice!!! Feeding every 1.5hrs as well and a bit grizzly/clingy all day.

I'm dreading teething, if he's anything like me his tolerance for tooth ache will be zero!

MaMaPo · 04/03/2013 19:04

I don't know how I'd distinguish a horrendous nappy from little C's regular performance.

Equimum · 04/03/2013 19:05

Thanks for reassurance that I'm not the only one regretting not having a really newborn 'type' baby, although I really know what you mean Ispy about being torn between that and being proud if how they're growing. I always feel so happy when he's weighed and done really well. Good grief chloe, 9lb10! I had enough difficulty pushing an 8lb13er out!

barbeasty hope you all feel better soon.

Spotty that's a great weight Grin

F decide to have a nap at 5pmish and is still asleep. He hadn't sleep much all day before that. Now debating whether to wake him or not?

MaMaPo · 04/03/2013 19:06

Snap, Eggs! What was your son's birthdate? C was 5.12.12 but due on 15.12.12 so a bit early.

I def missed having a little newborn - T was 9lb 9 at birth which was 2 lb heavier than my other 2 and the difference was and still is really noticeable. I've noticed tonight that she almost reaches the end of her sleeping bags so will be moving up to 6-18 month ones! The other day I commented to a mum that her lo was doing really well with pulling himself up and standing etc, thinking he was maybe 8/9 months - he was a year and still in the stage 0 car seat - I'm certain T will be out of it by 6 months :-(. Getting her weighed tomorrow...

Today I feel like someone swapped my baby! Not only did she sleep through the night, she stayed asleep in the car seat for 2 hours after the school run (normally wakes up as soon as we get in) and had an hours nap in her cot (unheard of)!! I'd be worried that she's coming down with something but she's been v content when awake. Looks like she's asleep now so we 'll see what comes.

WLmum · 04/03/2013 20:09

Oh dear just woken her up having a sneezing fit while cuddling her!

WLmum · 04/03/2013 20:11

Oh and teething!!! Poor babies (and mummies). Mine were both really late so assuming T will be the same. One of dd2s pals had almost his whole set by the time she had 2!

SpottyTeacakes · 04/03/2013 20:15

Dd was only missing the last four molars that come between 2&3 when she was two! She's even got an extra tooth at the front Grin (I'm honestly not even joking!)

Chloe55 · 04/03/2013 20:17

Dh went to the chemist and came back with baby bonjela, I do actually think it helped. It was also very funny watching her stick her Tongue in and out wondering what the hell I'd just put in her mouth Grin

We have decided to move dd to her own room mid April as we have an overnight wedding in may so will be the first time we have both left her overnight and thought she should prob be in her room, not the bednest by then. I am not looking forward to her not being next to me Sad It's weird, I couldn't wait to shift ds into his own room but knowing dd is my last I am clinging to every ounce of her babyness, is anyone else like that?

Chloe55 · 04/03/2013 20:18

wlmum growth spurt maybe?
