Spotty - I've got my smear tomorrow too. Depite having given birth twice I'm still dreading it! Need to get a serious grip. Just hope N is as well behaved as it sounds like your DS was.

Mama - sorry to hear you're having a hard time. I'll keep my fx it is a short-lived phase, though I'm sure that's of little comfort when your on the bus and it's actually happening.

Hales - only one HV visit here too so far. Think there might be one at around 3 months but not sure if that's with DC1 only. We didn't even get that one last time - our old HV, who was lovely but had got a bit lazy was about to retire and decided that she'd just see people at clinic instead. Was fine by me, but prob not so great if someone needed support and was struggling to get out. Mind you, as Pidge's experience shows they aren't always that useful (understatement) when help is requested. Hope yours is from the more helpful end of the spectrum!

PurplePidjin · 27/02/2013 18:25

Thanks Thanks he's doing ok. Physically nearly there but the psychological effects are a lot more long term. He's a massive footy fan, and i was thrilled when he got R up on Sunday to watch motd - first time since hospital!!

I desperately wanted to give the hv the benefit of the doubt but unfortunately they seem determined to live up to the worst of their reputation Hmm

PurplePidjin · 27/02/2013 18:27

Just fyi, I've seen several hv's as i get R weighed fortnightly (he's 1st centile, don't want him losing too much!) so it's not just "mine" that's shit!

Chloe55 · 27/02/2013 19:16

purple that link doesn't take me anywhere-i remember someone mentioning there was a fb group once but I never joined it and would Luke to if there is?

PurplePidjin · 27/02/2013 19:37

Slings and things - fsot. It's what i was trying to link! Well, the list of meets and libraries :)

MaMaPo · 27/02/2013 19:38

Chloe, do a search for the name of the group, then ask to join it.

thanks for the link, pidj - might go to a local meetup next week.

Shock Ds is down already. I'm scared Confused dp says I should go to sleep. I hope he's not up for the day at 2am!

Oh and dd said she wants to touch ds's willy. I said it's private for Felix to touch like her bottom is just for her, mummy and daddy to touch.....was that the right thing? Obviously I know it's totally innocent I don't want to make it an issue when it clearly isn't!

PurplePidjin · 27/02/2013 19:44

It won't sort the pushchair thing, MaMa, but it might give you some options! It may be something as simple as tying the stretchy tighter or usung/removing the nb insert from the ergo. Fingers crossed for you!

Sounds fine, Spotty, but not something I've ever had to deal with!

Chloe55 · 27/02/2013 19:49

is it December 2012 babies :)? don't wanna join a random group! Grin

I think you did the right think about the willy incident. We are pretty open in this household but we all know that our bits are our own and if we don't want someone to touch them then they don't (this was a bit of a barrier when ds wouldn't let the gp see his when he had problems weeing!!)

MaMaPo · 27/02/2013 19:51

Yes, i think it's time to remove the nb insert from the ergo - she's a bit squished! I wonder if she can go legs out now? the issue with the stretchy is her head - she hates having it confined, but her head control is still wobbly, so i end up having to use my hand to support her. tricky baby.

obviously i want the pram thing to resolve but i do like babywearing and would like to learn more. my friends all have bjorns which are apparently not great? i wonder if they'd like to come to a meet, or if they'd feel judged.

Think that sounds fine Spotty - you've let her know not to touch but without making a big deal of it. Not had that situation yet, but seeing as DS1 and N have the same bits I suppose there isn't the novelty value Grin.

SpottyTeacakes · 27/02/2013 20:02

Ds's awake again but I'm treating it like a night waking to see if he'll go back down.

Yes it's definitely a novelty to her Grin

Barbeasty · 27/02/2013 20:33

Spotty DD didn't want to touch, but asked what it was and then said hers had fallen off! So we had a conversation about how boys have them, and Daddy has one. "Has Granny got one?", then a list of all her nursery staff, cousins, aunts etc.

HoneyMumandSon · 27/02/2013 20:44

chloe the FB group is a prrivate group so you won't be able to find it by searching. If you pm me your name or a link to your FB account I'll add you as a friend then add you to the group :)

WLmum · 27/02/2013 20:48

spotty all mine are the same flavour so no novel bits but dd1 was obsessed with seeing what dd2s nappies contained! I know both dd1&2 have made DH uncomfortable by scrutinising his bits but it is just innocent curiosity. I think you handled it just fine but beware it will more than likely come up again!

SeymoreInOz · 27/02/2013 20:55

Just stopping in quickly, DS is a bit poorly so not giving me much MNing time!

Seconds I've only seen NAM in ready made cartoons in supermarkets, but I've seen aptamil cartons on the Australian Karricare website so they should be available here. If you go into a small pharmacy they should be able to order some for you and it will arrive the next day. Or try Chemist warehouse, or a larger baby store. I make up formula using hot water too, even though it says not too.

MaMa what a coincidence, I removed the insert from the ergo for the first time yesterday, and it was much more pleasant and less sweaty for me. DS's legs suddenly seem long enough to get round my waist rather than staying in the frog position. There is less support for the head without the insert, but the sleeping hood makes up for it. I'm still trying the pram (in the pushchair mode) every few days. I usually get 10-15mins before the screaming starts. The stars have to be aligned for an actual nap!

SeymoreInOz · 27/02/2013 20:57

NAN not NAM Grin

Chloe55 · 27/02/2013 21:07

honey have pm'd you

MaMaPo · 27/02/2013 21:17

Seymore, did you keep your little one on the little pillow from the insert, to lift him up? We don't have the problem of C getting too hot - if anything, I probably need to buy her a snowsuit type thing if she's going to go legs out this weekend when we're in Amsterdam. But I've seen others suggest using a rolled up blanket under the bum or around the back/neck for some support.

On the novelty of privates theme my mum told me a story told to her by a friend. This friend is about 70 now and she only has a sister. Wen she was small she remembered being out at a picnic with another family Nd she and boy both needed a wee so went off to find a tree. Of course when they found an appropriate place the little boy could do his wee standing up. As a young girl she had never seen or even knew about willies and her response was "that's a jolly useful thing to have at a picnic" :o

Although I have no idea what they were talking about to bring up that story it does make me :o

Secondsop · 27/02/2013 21:28

seymore thank you for that re the formula cartons - think we're going to try chemist warehouse today but if they don't have it we'll ask the local pharmacy to order some in. We are here for a month after all so it'd be well worth it.

mamapo we're staying in Epping with my husband's parents. It's more shopping mall type stuff here (although one of those will come in handy as there's a scheduled powercut affecting the house for 6 hours on Saturday...) but my husband has lived in various bits of Melbourne so we normally try to get out and about to the other places that he likes. Went to the mcg yesterday although not for long as we came home during the rain break. The man at the member's entrance was really helpful about telling me where the mother and baby room etc was.

eggs I've never carried Z in a sling all day but if you are travelling around London on public transport I would say that the pushchair would be more than a hindrance than a help, and y

WLmum · 27/02/2013 21:28

mama T seems happier in the moby since I let her legs out. I find it easier on the back too. Amsterdam - you lucky monkey! Loved it there.

Chloe55 · 27/02/2013 21:31

Thanks honey Smile

Secondsop · 27/02/2013 21:32

(Sorry sent too soon eggs) - you may end up wishing you hadn't brought the pushchair. If you've got the flexibility to schedule in sufficient rest breaks to take the baby out and give yourself a break, then I would say a day of sling is much easier around London than a day of pushchair if there are to be trains and tubes involved. My only caveats would be (1) if you want somewhere to put the baby down in occasionally, but it sounds like you will be showing the baby to people so they'll do the holding, and (2) you'll have to carry stuff as well as baby.
