Having a crap day here. S has been moaning all morning. I was drained by about 10.30am! Confused

Today was also the day we decided that the dummy was going. In fairness she only has it for sleeping but has been waking a bit through the night recently and screaming cause she 'can't find dummy!!' So I decided enough was enough. Just took about an hour to settle her for a sleep Sad. I cut the top from one and when she tried to suck it I told her it was broken and she then went on to ask if I could fix it. Finally managed to get her to put her dummy in the bin Sad. It was breaking my heart to hear her but it had to be done. I've told her when she wakes from her nap that I will take her to the shop and she can pick a new toy. Totally dreading tonight now, but not going back.

I'm a bit sad about it though (as crazy as that sounds). She doesn't have a bottle anymore and it's as though this was the last part of her still being a baby. I don't want her to grow up Sad

ipswichwitch · 17/08/2013 12:59

Sorry you're having a crappy day mummy, hope bedtime goes ok, and good luck for the job. We're moving N to the spare room so the baby has his old one and plan to put him in a toddler bed. He loves getting in ours and snuggling under the duvet, so fingers x he does ok in his new bed.

N still not talking as well as all yours are. He's coming out with more words all the time and he babbles and chatters constantly, but not putting sentences together. He tries counting with us but shouts random things instead of the numbers, and no colours yet. Not sure if we should be concerned or not tbh, but his understanding is great. He follows instructions well (particularly loves putting things in the bin when you ask). He also sings a song I can't identify then claps away at the end!

Sorry about the bfn's killa and mrs h - hope the news is better next month

Engelsemama · 17/08/2013 13:18

Ips, m doesn't do numbers or colours yet and certainly no sentences! Everything still single words (once he said "mama hello!"). I dont think it's anything to worry about, they all move at different rates.

Mummy s I rry you're having a rough day. Will Cake help!

Just got back from dn's birthday party. Was lovelyto see m playing with his older cousins. Now time to do some housework as this llace is a tip!

TallyBear · 17/08/2013 13:57

Well Seb's asleep, the cat's asleep if you can't beat them join them Grin yawn

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 17/08/2013 14:30

I always want to take a nap when S does but always find something else to do Hmm

My house is a tip too Engels. Really need to do something with it tonight when she's in bed.

S up from nap and so far no mention of the dummy. Just getting lunch then off to tesco to pick a new toy...

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 17/08/2013 16:51

Well, obviously she went straight for the most expensive toy! Managed to talk her round to a little pet shop figure thing! She's been talking about how her dummy is broken and how mummy, papa and gran can't fix it so hopefully she's getting the idea of it!

TallyBear · 17/08/2013 19:37

Nice one Mummy. I would love to wean Seb off his dummy. He mostly has it for sleep or when he is upset. I had to dig it out today as he went to bits when I got him out of his buggy to get his hair cut today! I don't think he quite understands 'broken' yet but I might keep that trick in mind for later.

I actually had loads of things to do but completely lacked any motivation Hmm. Although I did feel a bit zonked out after so it might not have been the best idea.

Isp Seb loves putting things in the bin too Confused odd boys!

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 17/08/2013 20:44

She's asleep!!! Shock

Put her to bed, she was saying how dummy was broken etc and I gave her some of her soft toys to cuddle (which she usually does anyway). Seemed happy enough. Heard her chatting away through the monitor and went in to check and she's fast asleep. I'm stunned, was expecting a meltdown!

Tally, I was going to go down the dummy fairy route but I knew she wouldn't happily hand them over as I asked her if she would like to give them to a friends new baby but it was a firm no! So I guessed if she couldn't suck it then I could convince her it was broke so needed to go in the bin.

PenelopeLane · 17/08/2013 20:51

A doesn't have colours yet, although can say enough now to be really bossy at times! Or rather he does know colours, but always gets them wrong iswim. I had a pfb moment of shame last week when I realised I wondered if he was colour blind, which runs in the family and DH is colour blind. So I found a test online with farm animals, and of course he was able to identify the animals which meant he wasn't colour blind at all, so I just realised I was being totally silly and pfb. To quote my Mum, "he's not even two! Maybe that's why he gets his colours wrong?" Blush

We lost the dummy ages ago but having trouble cutting down the milk bottle. Is anyone else having problems with that?

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 17/08/2013 20:57

Yes, same here with colours. I ask her 'what colour is that?' and she just shouts a random colour. Most things are 'ed' red Grin

We lost the bottle just before Christmas when she was really ill with D&V. She went off everything and was only drinking water from a cup so I just never introduced it again. She was drinking milk from a cup up until then but a bottle before bed.

No longer feels like a baby anymore Sad

strawberrypenguin · 17/08/2013 21:45

Wow duck good going Smile W still has his dummy mostly for sleep but sometimes for comfort was thinking of stopping after his birthday.
pen he still has his milk in a bottle too we've tried several times in several different cups but he refuses to take it unless its in a bottle!

TallyBear · 17/08/2013 23:45

Wow Mummy

Pen that occurred to me too for a while, but I think you are right, it's more likely to be their age Grin. Seb says 'lello' so seriously it's just makes me melt. Then he usually goes 'reen', really pleased with himself!

We moved with formula to a sippy cup first (he loved his formula so would drink it from anything!) and then gradually replaced it with normal milk.

ipswichwitch · 18/08/2013 09:33

Grin tally, I just wish it was helpful things he put in the bin all the time. Yesterday I caught him putting the phone, his ball, pjs and his tshirt that he decided he didn't want to wear in the bin. He does tend to give the game away by yelling "biiiiiiiiiinnnnn" every time though! Grin

He's a bossy little boy - taken to telling people off and waggling a finger then sternly saying "sit down"! DH went outside to ask the neighbour to stop leaving his van running outside our house at 7am while he's getting ready for work every weekend, as its right outside Ns bedroom window and wakes him every time. He said N came to the door and started yelling "van" at top volume! Think neighbour may have got the message :)

Engelsemama · 18/08/2013 10:50

Another bin boy here, though he likes to take things out of the kitchen bin. Or put toys in the washing basket we're still picking pieces of duplo dog out of our washing machine

I wonder if M's new separation anxiety is because we spent a whole month together when we were on holiday - no day care, no daddy day....24/7 often in a motel room or in the car. So now he has to get used to not being with us all the time.

Great news that she went to sleep fine without dummy.

Can't offer any bottle/milk advice I'm afraid. M stopped having a evening bottle when he was 1 and then went off milk altogetehr for a while. Only the last few months he's started drinking milk out of a cup again.

I think colours and number here may take some time! He can parrot 'ello' and 'ed' at me but has no idea what they mean.

I know what you mean about your heart melting tally. M is so cute when he says "bus" and "mama's". His s's are really hissy and long, like he's trying to get it just right.

TallyBear · 18/08/2013 11:02

Proud mummy moment: We were watching Mr Scribler, or whatever it is called, in bed this morning when Seb saw a yellow crayon on the TV and, completely unprompted, shouted 'Lello'.

Isp lol, great warning!

KillashandraRee · 18/08/2013 21:15

Wow mummy that's impressive. Haven't even thought about losing the dummy yet he seems to be getting more attached to it not less.

We have dropped the bedtime bottle though in the last month so will let that settle in before tackling the dummy. I do already say things about dummies being for babies and that he's a little boy now so shouldn't need one, in the hope I'll lay a seed...

E can't say loads but it getting more words every day. Today he said broke in a cockney accent, not sure where that came from! Wink

Engelsemama · 19/08/2013 08:58

When m tries to say sheep it comes out as "sheet"... sounds like he's swearing in an italian accent.

PenelopeLane · 19/08/2013 09:46

A's new phrase today, very loudly at creche, was "Mummy toilet wees!" Blush

I told him it's not my fault I have such a tiny bladder now am so pregnant, but he just repeated it again

ipswichwitch · 19/08/2013 18:43

Grin at broke in a cockney accent killa, N says "bus" in a proper north east accent (where we live so that makes sense), but none of his other words sound particularly northern yet!

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 19/08/2013 21:59

It's funny, I swear certain things S says sound proper English! My dad is from London so I think she's picking up his accent Grin

MrsHende · 19/08/2013 22:15

Just got some great news, my lovely best friend had her first baby tonight!

I don't know if I said on here but we both found out we were pregnant within a few days of each other in November last year but mine was not meant to be. Was hard at first, hearing about scans etc - for both of us, she felt so bad talking to me about her pregnancy, kind of guilty I guess that she was doing so well.

I was so sure that I'd be pregnant again by the time she had her wee one, reminds me how long it's been, but I'm actually just overwhelmed with happiness for her.

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 19/08/2013 23:08

Lovely news mrsh. Can only imagine how hard it must be. Your time will come Thanks

strawberrypenguin · 20/08/2013 07:23

That's good news MrsH Smile glad you're feeling ok about it, hope it happens for you soon x

pen Grin @ 'mummy toilet wees' that's brilliant.

CheshireDing · 21/08/2013 21:24

Ha ha loving the comments everyones little ones are coming out with :)

Great news for your friend MrsH, fx you join her soon.

Today we got her dates in September for moving to the next room in nursery, she seems so tiny to be going up. It only seems like yesterday we were viewing nurseries with her as a baby :(

P has a cot bed so on Saturday we took the side off and bought a cot side thing, it does actually seem to be going okay. We bought a new duvet cover too with owls on as encouragement for getting in bed herself. Takes a while for her to fall asleep but it's not been as bad as I thought it would.

Her recent behaviour is pretty hideous though, massive tantrums and kicking at the floor whilst lay in the garden last week, hissy fits at getting in or out of car seat/shower etc. On Saturday we took her to a festival for children (which she really enjoyed last year). We left after 4 hours because she would only be carried by me (not even DH) the whole time, wouldn't get involved in anything and was constantly crying and miserable, it was very draining. She also took all her clothes off in the forest and I only negotiated her putting them back on because the Gruffalo went past !! Monday she went to nursery with unbrushed hair, unbrushed teeth and had 3 time outs before 7.45am. I can only presume it's developmental/physical or teeth but it's hard work.

Our friend had an egg implanted on Friday at her first go at IVF, there were 8 eggs taken in total but only 1 was any good to put back. I definitely have my fx as it cost them £4,500 :(

CheshireDing · 21/08/2013 21:24

Sorry that was very me me Blush
