Oh dear, sounds like some of you are having a tough time. I can't even say I understand as both my DS and Naomi have been fairly easy babies and excellent sleepers....sorry.

I hope things improve soon.

Couple of questions - will Naomi be ok in her cot bed now? She's still in her Moses basket as she was so tiny but is just starting to outgrow it. And what blankets are ok? I'm sure for my DS we had a flat sheet, a fleecy blanket and a cot quilt, but everyone is telling me this is unsafe and we should use the cellular blankets only?

Should I be doing pelvic floor exercises even though I had a ELCS not a natural birth with both my children? I don't leak or anything, but (TMI ALERT!!) Last week me and hubby DTD and I didn't FEEL ANYTHING. Blush Not at all. And everything just felt "loose" down there. Is this normal? Excuse the details, I apologise.

turnwest · 27/02/2013 12:41

orenishii. Sorry you re feeling crap, must be something in the water as my Ds is being difficult and I feel crap too. Moaning for no reason, won't play in sodding jumperoo, won't nap, won't feed and won't do anything really apart from cry. I ve just eaten a load if chocolate and Ds has milk allergy so will have to use formula later or he ll be even more grumpy. How selfish am I? And why does everyone's baby like the bloody jumperoo apart from mine?

cherrycherry41 · 27/02/2013 13:02

Cwest my DD went into her cotbed at 10 weeks as she outgrew both her moses basket and crib! At first we were going to move the cotbed into our room but then we decided it'd be too much hassle and not enough room and the nursery is close enough and we leave both bedroom doors open at night. We tend to put one small thin blanket on first and tuck it around and underneath her then a larger fleece blanket that we fold in half and tuck very tightly under the mattress as shes a wriggler and normally ends up at the other side of the cot other way round and on her front Confused so lately we invested in a few fleecy onezies to keep her warm if she goes sleep travelling! To begin with we used grobags but she outgrew them very quick and worked out how to unzip them!
Regarding the DTD issue i had an emcs after a long labour and we started DTD from when i stopped bleeding (6 weeks PP i believe) and i still have all the sensation, no looseness etc and i can still hold my muscles down there for about 10 seconds and ive never done any pelvic floor excercises. Heard of loss of sensation/looseness etc in natural birth but never in cs so maybe give it a mention to your gp sometime if its concerning you? x

londonlivvy · 27/02/2013 13:31

cwest. my understanding is that the pelvic floor is stretched by the weight of the baby, so regardless of whether you had c section or v. birth, some impact on that area is inevitable. some folk more than others, as usual. so I would suggest the usual exercises. someone also raved about a dvd called habit or similar.

Thanks everyone re ring. I called the cops, I have retraced my steps, checked pockets, gloves and everything. no ring. sob.

turnwest. do you give 100% neocate with no problems? We're at 50% at one feed a day which gives her awful colic. poor mite. I'm hoping it gets easier. I want choc too! It's gonna be a rubbish Easter.

turnwest · 27/02/2013 14:10

londonlivvy I try not to use the neonate too often but when I m tired, eaten dairy or we re going out somewhere where I don't want to breast feed we use it then. No one told me to introduce it gradually, so yes I give it at full strength, I ve never mixed it with breast milk. I have nt noticed any difference in his poos after giving him a bottle of it.

londonlivvy · 27/02/2013 14:27

oh turnwest that's fab to have a get out of jail card, as it were. the dietician advised gradual intro cos of taste and cos it can give them wind, green poos or constipation. So I did a week of 1 oz neocate 6oz mine. horrific sore tum and wind for first few days then fine. now at 3 oz neocate. fair amount of unhappiness. hoping to get her to take it neat by mid march so I can start transfer entirely to FF. maybe my dd is just a bit super sensitive but if I eat dairy by mistake, even if pump and dump and replace with non contaminated milk for two feeds, I still get miss misery.

My mate with the prem baby still isn't out of hospital, boo. He didn't let me clean his house either, though I did some laundry and moved some furniture around for him and sorted out his car seat and gave him my moses basket and have been feeding his cat. They are so fed up. I don't feel massively helpful. I harrass them with texts telling them I'm thinking of them and they can ask me to help with anything (they don't ask). I think next week when he is back at work it might be a different story though.

Jess was well gripey yesterday. Screamed through Baby Sensory which she normally loves. Whined at my mate (who needed a cuddle badly, cmon Jess couldn't you have made an effort!), cried lots in the evening. I thought it was more wonder weeks bollocks but she is fine today - I have been very strict with her naps and she didn't get much daytime sleep yesterday due to all the running around so maybe she was just overtired.

I have been having fun with her in her highchair, songs and toys and knocking fruit around and practising with a cup and a spoon, and sometimes, I just love her so much. Sorry. Nobber post.

squidkid · 27/02/2013 15:00

I'm going to Yorkshire Wildlife park with some mates and their kids this weekend. smileyhappymummy have you been? It's fantastic, really well designed and you walk right amongst the animals. I don't think anyone else lives nearby (its in Doncaster).

livvy I SO hope you find that ring. Sad

smileyhappymummy · 27/02/2013 15:26

Yes! I LOVE the Yorkshire wildlife park, as does dd1 who's favourite animal is the tiger. Have a brilliant time.

cherrycherry41 · 27/02/2013 15:31

firsttime my DD often sleeps on her front (not by my choice!) shes more than capable of lifting her head off the mattress if she was struggling, when she had a cold when she was younger gp told us to prop up her mattress slighy with a book or 2 and that seemed to work :) x

turnwest · 27/02/2013 16:40

londonlivvy yes my Ds milk allergy does nt seem to be severe although I have nt dared try anything like cheese or ice cream, god I could murder a dominoes pizza. I m thinking of going on to ff fulltime as well, I ve done my best with breastfeeding but I ve had enough now, must be hard for you is nt your dd sensitive to other things too? Sorry if I ve got that wrong.

Does anyone know anything about cracked nipples? I found blood on Ds sleep suit today where he had brought milk up and I think it's coming from my boob, it's been sore over a week now. Any ideas what I should do?

Orenishii · 27/02/2013 16:51

turnwest I found Lanolin cream way too gloopy for cracked nipples. I think the advice I got was to keep them dry so clean after feeding and air them out a bit :) Maybe some oil rather than cream, I think, worked better for me - kept the skin supple.

londonlivvy · 27/02/2013 19:46

An, turnwest, I think dd is particularly sensitive. One day over Xmas I ate two quality street chocs and half a biscuit and had bile screaming misery the whole of the following day. Emphatically not worth it. You are right, dd is intolerant of other stuff too. : eggs and soy. Gah. Still, like you, I'm kinda over the breastfeeding, so hoping I've only got a couple of months left of it. Then I'll be able to have attractive bras again, yay, and be able to run, yay, and eat cake (that tastes like cake), yay, and wear a wider range of my clothes, yay.

No advice from me I'm afraid re the cracked nipples. Huffle and londonmrss are the resident experts on this, I think.

I think dd has joined the troublesome wonder weeks camp. 45 mind of screaming at bedtime yesterday and today. Sigh.

I walked MILES today, looking for the ring. Went to every shop, spoke to the cops. No luck. Maybe the cleaner will find it tomorrow. Thinking positive, eh?

londonlivvy · 27/02/2013 19:48

Oh and first time, my sister's baby kept rolling onto her front so she got one of those sleep wraps (effectively a Velcro strap round the tum to keep them on their back). Some folk say it's bad to restrain your child and others say that they prefer the reassurance of knowing baby is fine. Certainly her baby never objected. Perhaps it just feels a bit like a swaddle?

smileyhappymummy · 27/02/2013 20:10

livvy hoping so much that you find that ring. A friend of mine lost a very precious ring once while out for a walk.... Bizarrely having given up hope she found it 3 or 4 years later on the same walk. Will keep evrything crossed for you.

londonlivvy · 27/02/2013 20:45

Well I hope that something like that happens, smiley. It's just a slim, not very exciting looking kinda ring so could easily get lost in mud or leaves. Argh.

smile4me · 28/02/2013 03:54

Gahhhh DD has a cold. It's summer FFS. I'm blaming a friend who brought her DD round a few days ago, spent an hour playing with DD and her toys, then announced she had a cold as they were leaving. Poor critter can't breathe. And can't sleep. So neither do I, well I think we might have had 2 hours total in 5 min chunks over past 2 days. So tired. I just want to climb into her little head and blow her nose.

livvy so sorry to hear about your ring... did you change sheets on the bed where it could have slid off and be under the mattress? Was talking to a friend last week who had lost her wedding and that's where she found it. I know how devastating it is to lose something so important and to keep thinking about it and frantically looking though!

turnwest I think jelonet dressings are good fro cracked nipples, and I've seen manuka honey ones too which I reckon would be awesome.

CWest we use grobag with merinos on underneath then have double layer merino blanket tucked in over the top. Or we do in the winter anyway.

hufflepuffle · 28/02/2013 04:29

Turnwest. Livvy is right. I am the oracle on cracked nipples. (Not really title to Be proud of......) At this stage they are unusual. Either due to poor latch (so tired of people saying that...) or infection causing non healing. First thing to do is try try try to monitor latch. Second is to consider infection. May be bacterial or fungal. Although normally don't want to wash nipples too much, one daily wash with mild soap is good as it there is a biofilm maintained by baby which may contain bacteria. Rinse soap well. After each feed rinse nippe with saline solution. One pint cooled boiled water, 1 level teaspoon salt. Keeps in fridge 24hrs. I used empty bottle to sort if hold over nipple for 1 min. Pat dry. U need to moisturise with something or treat cracks. I found only healer was fucidin h on prescription but need to be careful to remove before feeds. Fast worker tho. If u don't hav mega cracks you could moisturise with coconut oil or a bought nipple cream. Lansinoh can be great but is v gloppy and if baby not latching well can make mouth slip. There are lots of creams on market, use one which don't need to wipe off so u can give nips a rest!

If however has been sore a week, may be infected. The saline rinse helps massively and may be good to see GP for fucidin H. Insist they give it to u, they can be unwilling!

Hope that helps. Good luck, need to clear it up as is a vicious circle and if u let get worse can end up with bloody thrush..... And description for treating that even bloody longer........!!!!!!!!

hufflepuffle · 28/02/2013 04:34

And yes Jelonet dressing can be v good to aid in moist wound healing. I used for while. Helped comfort But didn't treat infection. Fucidin H is antibacterial, anti fungal and steroid.

I didn't pay that private lactation consultant all that money for nothing....... But she was my salvation after over 3 months. Delighted to pass this on........

londonlivvy · 28/02/2013 06:56

smile4me thanks for the idea but have looked there. all other ideas v welcome

huffle truly you are a veritable mine of nipple info. I am impressed. and kinda bashful to be over breastfeeding when you've gone through so much more.

Smorgs · 28/02/2013 08:21

OK I just need to record yesterday for posterity, and to make me feel better after doping my child earlier this week. Good night's sleep, feeding well from both sides every three hours during the day, happy playing on playmat while I pottered about in the morning then managed FOUR HOURS at a friends house without a meltdown. Bedtime was also bafflingly good, put down awake in cot and drifted off without either of us in the room. You know what I think it's down to? Poo. He had a poo yesterday for the first time in days. He is so happy after a good poo Smile I hope it lasts until Saturday when I have a 9 hour car journey to Switzerland Hmm

I just want to say thank you so much for all your support earlier this week. It was so tough there for a day or two. Amazing how you can go from a real low to such a high so quickly, he is a different baby now. I feel dreadful about giving him medication that caused him so much pain. I tried calling the paediatrician to let him know about the reaction and for advice but he is on holiday this week. So he is having nothing at the moment, is feeding well and is happily spitting up after some feeds but not in pain so reflux shmeflux in my opinion.

londonlivvy Gutted for you about the ring, you poor thing. My engagement ring is my husband's granny's old engagement ring so I would be beside myself if I lost it. My mum has lost both the diamonds out of her ring though and randomly found them both so hopefully it will turn up. Did you put hand cream on and take it off then? Maybe for a shower or to bath the baby? Or to wash your hands after the loo while you were out?

turnwest sorry things were difficult for you yesterday. Is the blood definitely coming from your boob? Sometimes Smorglet chews his muslin and there is a bit of blood from where he is teething.

firstime Mine sleeps on his back but a friend lent me some triangular wedges that are Velcroed to a piece of material you lie them on and it supports them if you want them to sleep on their sides? I've never used them, but she said they were a lifesaver for her. Or you could just use rolled up towels perhaps?

londonlivvy · 28/02/2013 08:51

in haste. .. my cleaner found the ring!!! Happy Grin
