Round our parts, preschool can either be in a private nursery or in the nursery class of one of the local primary schools. In an ideal world, I'd like DD to go to the preschool in our local primary because it's about the tenth of the cost of nursery but am not sure how the logistics of drop off and pick ups would fit in with our work.

She's on the waiting list at the school anyway. They won't accept any children until the term after they're 3 and they deal with all applications for the year after Christmas. We're expecting an application form this December. The school and nursery are really oversubscribed and places are allocated on distance - being on the waiting list for the longest doesn't automatically guarantee a place. It looks like they have different systems across the country judging by this thread though!

Anyway, I've not been on for weeks and am just catching up with everything. We've been busy moving house (hoorah!) and I've had a few hospital appointments about the bleeding I was having. They still don't seem sure about what's causing it but scans seem to have shown that it isn't anything sinister. It's getting me down TBH - hopefully the next appointment will shed some light on things.

Kittycatcat · 22/05/2013 13:55

You have all spurred me on to sort pre school. I think S will go on my non work days with his free 15 hours to start with. Will start getting him registered. Randomly at an aunts funeral yesterday i discovered i have relatives living bang opp one of the schools and they have offered me their drive :)

Hair is much better now. Will post a pics to FB. Actually really pleased with the hairdressers who are 2 mins from my house. They have a new customer.

Ali - well done T

Have you had your meeting yet Fizz?

How are you twentieth? And hooray re the house.

Nom we are going to need a new name soon :)))

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 22/05/2013 20:03

Glad to hear your hair is in recovery Kitty Grin Sorry to hear about your aunt though x

Well done for volunteering Fizz, I am a bit evangelical/bossy about it Blush I don't think most parents realise that money has to be raised for the preschools to have new equipment etc, and that the fundraising events are organised by the committee

Ds3's new trick is completely ignoring me when I ask him to do something. Such fun

Never mind I am going to see The Great Gatsby tomorrow - I can't wait, I ADORE the 1920's.

GlaikitFizzog · 22/05/2013 20:19

Just back from the meeting! I'm the new treasurer come the new school year in September! Our playgroup is a charity run by committee, no committee no playgroup. Plus, my work will match any funds I raise personally, so I can bring a bit more than adding up!
But the best bit is meetings are held in the local pub!

NomDeClavier · 23/05/2013 20:50

Hurrah for pub meetings! And well done for volunteering. There are so many really valuable organisations which are either entirely volunteer run or volunteer led/managed and people just take from them so good for you giving time and effort :)

Names I will have a think. M is refusing to go to sleep

Kittycatcat · 24/05/2013 13:00

65th on one waiting list. They take 25!!!

Nursery nurse came this am cos a only gained 3oz in 3 was but he's put on 5oz in 6 days!!! He'd had a growth spurt, had Ella's kitchen on hol which isn't as much as I usually give him, and has a cold and been sick. Took him to docs hoping for change of meds and he said itsnot the reflux or it would be ill all the time. He has avirus. I talked about me too. It's stress as I'm ok at work. I'm to see him if it affects work. Need me time and to excersise.

GlaikitFizzog · 24/05/2013 13:50

Why is work more important than your home life though kitty? Stress is caused by some thing, it doesn't just happen. My pnd doesn't effect work, if anything else it saved my sanity. Was PND even mentioned? Did you do a questionnaire? Sorry for all the questions, but how you describe how you feel, it could be me writing it sometimes.

And today I am stressed out. B has been up since 4.30, I've had to do work while he was at playgroup, and I was hoping that by 1pm he would be having his nap so I could dial into a conference call. He wasn't napping but I really had to be on the call. Quite possibly one of the worst calls I have ever been on. And I probably came across as wholly unprofessional.

He will not nap in his bed. Nighttime bedtime has been fine, all good. But bloody hell he just will not nap. I have just left him upstairs in his room, I can hear him pottering about, but hopefully he'll just work out that the reason he is grumpy is that he is tired and will just lie down.

Aaaaaarrrrrrrrrrhgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Kittycatcat · 24/05/2013 14:54

That's exactly how I feel fizz. And I don't know how to fix it. All well and good saying excersise and have me time!! The hv called and left a message. Going to call her now.

Hugs. Hope B sleeps soon!

Kittycatcat · 24/05/2013 14:55

And no,no questionnaire and pnd not mentioned. I bought up depression and my history of it.

GlaikitFizzog · 24/05/2013 15:05

Speak to you HV, be honest about how you feel. I got the me time and do more exercise waffle too. But I think they have to do that at the first appointment. "Pills aren't always the answer" was what I was told. Turns out they helped me, although they aren't doing me much good just now!

He is snoring beside me on the sofa now!

Hugs back atcha!

Kittycatcat · 24/05/2013 15:23

Thanks. Just spine to my hv. She said that the doc said wasn't helpful! She is coming thurs am and is going to do the questionnaire with me. She has a couple of ideas for me and says me and dh need time together too.

Kittycatcat · 24/05/2013 15:23

Spoke!!

GlaikitFizzog · 24/05/2013 15:42

Good, she sounds sensible. Maybe ask her which doc at your surgery is the "depression specialist and make and appointment to see them instead of dr unhelpful.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 24/05/2013 15:44

kitty that is good news. If it only mattered if it affect work, then I wouldn't have got any help! :)

Kittycatcat · 24/05/2013 16:04

Thanks ladies. There are only two docs and I refuse to see the other one!!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 25/05/2013 18:11

The GP sounds like a feckin eijit, I'm glad you can speak to your HV though Smile

Well done for volunteering fizz We used to meet in the pub, but now we meet in the community social club. By god it's a dive. I know it's good to support the community and all that, but I have my limits Grin

I've spent the majority of today helping a friend out who runs the local branch of a charity who distribute donated cildren's clothes to people in need - it was like a drop in centre where you could collect donated clothes, books, toys etc. We had A LOT of donations but hardly any people needing them. We advertised in all of the right places (refuge, food bank venue, children's centre's, HV, SS etc), but the only people who came are people who just happened to walk past on the day. The left over clothes can be distributed over the country and in Europe, but I'm just curious as to why no one was really interested. My friend has spent hours organising it and now has two vans full of clothes to store.

Kittycatcat · 25/05/2013 18:53

Do you think he's wrong about a's reflux too? Two of my friends say their lo's are worst during colds. He said his throat is inflamed but would it be anyway with a cold and teething? He's fine in himself.

UnderwaterBasketWeaving · 25/05/2013 22:07

Teething always made F's reflux worse. I can't remember about colds (felt like he had a permanent cold till recently)

OP posts:
Kittycatcat · 25/05/2013 22:25

Thanks ubw. It's been shit since a was born quite frankly. I feel drained. Weathers been pants and they've been permanently ill Confused

NomDeClavier · 26/05/2013 10:56

Colds, and coughing in particular, makes M's reflux flare.

I really feel for you with 2 poorly, snotty babes plus work plus reflux, kitty. It's not easy and I'm not in the least surprised you feel down. Glad your HV is sensible even if the doc is a bit odd. Why on earth would it necessarily affect work? Work is precious escape time!

M cracked me up yesterday when we were reading 'I want my potty'. He looked at me very seriously and told me he wasn't a princess! I think we may be getting off message because the potty is non-gender-specific and he seems to think only princesses use potties. I foresee a toilet training battle.

So some ideas for thread titles

April 2011 - only 16 years until they go to Uni! Everybody panic!
(Just anticipating the wave of schoolstarters)
April 2011 - we understand no, we choose to ignore it
April 2011 - careful what I see you do, I want to do it just like you

Kittycatcat · 26/05/2013 12:28

Love the bottom 2Grin

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 26/05/2013 21:35

The second one rings very true at the moment Hmm

The thought of potty training again gives me the fear. Even though I've only done it once, and each child is different etc etc, I really feel like potty training is my nemisis. Although on reflection I don't think it helped doing it when heavily pregnant ........

GlaikitFizzog · 27/05/2013 07:58

Meh, bugger off with your sunshine

B is showing an interest in the potty, sitting on it fully clothed etc. is that a sign?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 28/05/2013 09:30

Glaikit I would give it a try for a day and see?

I'm going to start training T next week once DS1 is back at school. He goes for a wee on the toilet every time he has a nappy change, and is starting to ask even when he's got a nappy on.
This is in total contrast to DS1 who used to stand there and wet himself at nearly 4 years old rather than ask someone to take him to the toilet if we were somewhere unfamiliar!
I am dreading training T, but it has to be done and I'd love him to be dry during the day before we go on holiday (8 weeks and counting!)

We have just had a lovely bank holiday weekend away in Kent exploring castles. The boys loved it, although I think maybe their favourite part was us all sleeping in the same bedroom! Hmm
