We are all here for you JKS

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 17/04/2013 15:14

Ah ok.

It really isn't selfish, ten years ago you didn't have the DCs to take care of, and now you have so much more on your plate.

Plodding on here. T has taken to taking his nappy off in his cot and bellowing 'wee toilet' at various hours of the night/early morning Hmm

3 for 2 alert.

GlaikitFizzog · 17/04/2013 19:01

Why did I click the link???????? Thing is I don't know what my sister has bought him! Must hide credit card (that would be pointless though because I know the number by heart!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 17/04/2013 19:35

Hopefully the change in treatment and being able to have it at home will make a tremendous difference to your mum, JKS. It's understandable feeling the way you do, it's not as if Devon s just down the round. As much as you want to help your mum, it's not easy when you have 3 kids to think of as well.

The sleep thing sounds tough Ali, how on earth does he survive on that amount of sleep? No doubt a question you and your dh have asked yourselves while downing the wine! Grin He sounds like a duracell bunny!

Ds3 has started arsing around at bed and nap time. He gets straight up as soon as I put him in his cot. I bellow 'lay down', he dives straight down. I stand there for a few minutes, I say 'goodnight' and leave. He does a half hearted whinge for a few minutes and then falls asleep. I know it's not horrendous, but before I would lay him in his cot and he would fall asleep without a peep.

I think ds3 will master scaling the climbing frame by the end of the week. The platform is about 5.5 feet high Shock It gives me the bloody fear. But if I don't teach him how to do it safely he'll end up doing it anyway, and in a haphazard way.

Oh, and ds2 got in at our first choice school. Not a great surprise as it's a few hundred yards away, but it's nice to have it in writing Grin

JKSLtd · 17/04/2013 20:29

Thanks people :)

Not looking at happyland link...not looking!

DD has learnt to climb our climbing frame, it is high, gets even higher then there's a big slide. But at least now she can manage it. she did have a fall the other day and cried but then laughed when i pulled a funny face so it wasn't serious.
My main worry is DS2 who doesn't understand 'gentle' and gets annoyed if DD gets in his space. He will shove her off one day....

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 17/04/2013 20:39

Good news about school ILike Grin

T is able to get up our climbing frame too, and hurl himself down the slide. I was pleased to note this evening that he can actually get himself back down again which he couldn't before so that is progress!

I have no idea how he survives, none. He had a nap earlier, only 50 minutes and then he has played outside, done puzzles, built things with gears (fab toy if anyone is looking for presents), eaten dinner, played outside again for almost an hour, had a bath and been read several stories and had a BF, and I can hear that DH is still battling to get him to settle to sleep. Argh.

Kittycatcat · 18/04/2013 15:17

Come on mrs w where are you? Grin

Kittycatcat · 18/04/2013 16:35

Any tips on what to pack on holiday with two kids? Any other tips are also welcome. Thx

GlaikitFizzog · 18/04/2013 18:27

Valium and Wine

Meatloaf has recovered! Girly road trip to Sheffield is on!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 18/04/2013 18:32

Buy sun cream, nappies and wipes all over here - they are expensive abroad.
Pack a change of clothes for everyone in your hand luggage. Altitude is known for causing explosive poo's.
Have all your travel documents (passports, tickets, maps, car hire/hotel booking info) all in one place. There's nothing worse than scrabbling around when flustered.
Give yourself enough time to get through security checks in the UK. They scan EVERYTHING and ANYTHING. Read up on what liquids can and can't go through security.
Shit load of snacks for the journey - it keeps them entertained.

It really is fine. I've found the first few days of holidays a bit of a nightmare, everything's new and everyone is tired from the travelling etc etc. But then once I've relaxed about it all, it's great.

When are you off?

Oh, and you have got the boys passports haven't you? Grin

Kittycatcat · 18/04/2013 18:40

Whoop fizz. Ill be there in spirit.

Thanks ilike. Yep got their passports. :-). Have checked on measures. Max of litre combined. Per child I think.
May 2nd for a week. Spain.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 18/04/2013 19:01

iPad for the plane Grin

Are you hiring a car the other end? When we flew with ours in September, we took T's carseat on the plane and he had his own seat and it was a godsend because we just strapped him in and he fell asleep, on the way there anyway. Won't talk about the flight home

While you are away, don't try and do too much in a day. Takes flipping ages to get organised when you are in unfamiliar territory!

Kittycatcat · 18/04/2013 19:40

Thanks Ali. We gave transport with car seats picking us up.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 18/04/2013 20:43

Is it wrong that I laughed at your rocking Ali? Grin We were a bit like that on the flight last year, thinking that the boys would sleep ...

With the liquid thing I was also thinking of the stuff that isn't obvious. From memory, other passengers had lip gloss (for example) in sealed clear plastic bags, and all that jazz. I'm sure someone will come along and decipher my whitterings Grin

I really need to get my arse in gear and book a holiday.

Oh, and yy to what Ali said about not trying to do too much in a day.

TwentiethCenturyGirl · 18/04/2013 23:03

What awful news about your mum JKS. I hope that she responds well to the treatment.

I'm still blocking out the memory of our holiday with DD last autumn.

The way out was fine. The way back wasn't. All she wanted to do was walk up and down and up an down the aisle. If we tried to stop she shrieked hysterically. Urgh...

And we were delayed by a pissed up stag party after they had a brawl at passport control and managed to get one of the group arrested, necessitating the airport staff to empty the hold in search of their bags

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 19/04/2013 06:54

ILike don't laugh Grin One or other of them wailed the entire 2 hour flight. I don't fly well and I was an absolute wreck by the time we landed. I had 3 different women reach out and pat me as we hit the Tarmac. DH did his best, but there is only so much a man can do in the face of adversity! Grin

With the liquids, I had to have any makeup I wanted in a plastic zippy. Mascara, lipgloss etc. We had to drink from the boys drinks in front of security. We were at Gatwick and they did have a special family lane with more staff to help you with all your stuff and buggy etc.

We are driving this summer! Grin

GreenFirefly · 19/04/2013 12:23

I appear to have a bug. Sad I escaped morning sickness but I'm feeling grim now. had the morning off work and Dh is picking m up from nursery as it's probably best I don't spread it there. still feeling plenty of baby wiggles so not too worried on that front.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 19/04/2013 17:42

Green :(

There are sickness bugs going around here. At school pickup yesterday, two younger siblings threw up all over the playground. People were sympathetic but backed away!
Hope you are feeling better soon.

JKSLtd · 19/04/2013 17:53

Oh dear Green :(

And Ali, oops, poor mums having to deal with that - and the school cleaner too?

Am officially miffed - i know IABU really but am less tolerant than usual.

MIL is here for DD"s birthday (tomorrow). Made a big fuss about wanting to be here.

  1. FIL did not want to come so has stayed at home (in practical terms this works perfectly as he can be a miserable sod but still, he didn't want to come and see her on her birthday)

  2. MIL doesn't like to leave FIL for too long (Hmm) so is rushing home tomorrow after we've had our picnic. Why not stay and go home Sun?

  3. MIL has just announced they've booked their tickets to Oz for Christmas. They were meant to be coming to us, they started this alternating plan a few years ago, BIL told them no (whole other story) to last Christmas so they went to the States to see other relatives. Knowing they were coming here for 2013. Now BIL has told them they can't come for 2014 or 15 so they wouldn't see those GC until Christmas 2016. SO they've booked to go this year.
This is all fine, I understand the reason but...it feels like we're shoved aside when the other GC are available, like we're second best. They didn't even mention it to us that they wouldn't be here.
Just said 'oh we've booked our tickets for Oz'
Me: 'oh when are you going?'
    MIL: 9th Dec for 5 weeks... :(

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 19/04/2013 19:12

Oh JKS :(

I would be upset too. I can understand them wanting to see their other GCs, but it is inconsiderate to just drop you without saying anything.

I hope you can forget about it and have a lovely day tomorrow. Where are you picnicking?

GreenFirefly · 19/04/2013 19:33

I'm feeling a bit better now. Just hoping for a good night's sleep without an extra little person in the bed wanting hugs from 1am. Also hope that DH and M both avoid it.

Sad JKS, they sound a bit thoughtless.

MrsWajs · 20/04/2013 03:23

So sorry to hear about your mum JKS and grrrr to PIL too, just a teeny bit inconsiderate!!

I can't offer any suggestions on holidaying with little kids Kitty but will be looking for your advice come November when I'm flying to Lanzarote with R, who will be 2.6 and an 8 week old baby!!!!! Aaaaargh, I must be crazy! However I won't be alone as my mum and dad are going too and possibly my brother and his GF. DP is refusing on the grounds that he can't take anymore time of work, so it has now been deemed my "push present" (!!!) I fail to see how taking a toddler and a tiny baby on holiday solo is a gift but hey ho!

France first though next month where R and I are again flying on our own! It's only an hour long flight though so I'm reasonably confident it will be ok! Hmm

Sooo....any other news....hmm.....oh yeah!

BabyWajs is a boy!! Grin Wink

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 20/04/2013 08:22

Fab news MrsW, boys are great but I may be a tiny bit biased Grin

Happy birthday to your dd JKS, the sun is shining for your picnic Smile

My IL's move in mysterious ways too, you are not alone. I've just realised your dd and my MIL share a birthday, MIL is 60 today.

How was Meatloaf fizz?

Hope you feel even better this morning firefly, I've had stomach bugs when pregnant. They are grim, but the baby will be fine. Just make sure you're hydrated Smile

We're off to the coast today. If anyone is familiar with Grandpa in my Pocket, we are going where the outside scenes for the programme are shot. M gets very excited about seeing Mr Mentor the Inventers lighthouse Grin
