Chick I'd like to try one on. I've just asked the local sling meet if anyone knows (or has one I can try!)

FranTan · 31/01/2013 14:50

HI all,

First time posting, although used to post on pregnancy board before DS arrived on 25th November.

DS is my second and is great, biggest problem so far is sleep. He is HUGE (9lb 14 at birth) and weighed 13.7lb about 3 weeks ago. He will only go to sleep by being jiggled while walking. As a result of his size this is now hugely impractical and I have major back ache. So I have decided that for now I will sit and jiggle, which he is very p*ssed off about. Having said that it did just work but am sure that's a one off. Then, when I put him in his cot, am lucky if he makes 20 mins asleep before yelling. It's also hard to settle him after this as he quickly works himself into a frenzy, convinced he deserves a bottle.

Just heard him through the monitor. Wish he would self-settle. Am resigned this will continue until we resort to controlled crying at 6 months like with DS1.

Bizarrely, he loathes the car and his pram too. This doesn't stop me from going out but odd it doesn't send him to sleep. Night time he goes 7pm-5am with a couple of feeds in between.

Apart from the above he's great Grin Seriously though, I know I could have it much much worse.

PetiteRaleuse · 31/01/2013 14:51

Excellent article horsey , thanks for that.

Thechick · 31/01/2013 14:53

I tried mine from a sling library before I bought it, but with the insert. I think they need to be about 12lb without the insert and have good head control. H isn't that weight yet so we need to wait a little while. Can't wait. With ds1 I carried him all the time when he was little. And it might help to lose this baby weight that doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

Proper Ergo site ^^

They're just the most famous brand - like babybjorn - so don't discount other cheaper lesser known ones like Beco, Manduca, Connect. Pop a post in the fb group for me if you want a fr and adding to the big fb group :)

Gah!!

Thechick · 31/01/2013 15:02

Hey Fran welcome
I have a non sleeper too. H was waking every 3 hrs but last night it was an hour and a half. It's not fun is it.

horseylady · 31/01/2013 15:02

Have done purple. I'll move this discussion to fb now!!

Chick - yes it looks sturdy, hence me looking at it. Will see if someone has one I can try.

GTbaby · 31/01/2013 15:05

Welcome back fran.

Thanks PR and stunt. Living with mil sucks. N she is Obviously in a mood with me. H is going out with lads tonight. So not looking forward to being "home alone" with them Hmm.

But we r making progress on the nursery. Q how long would you leave freshly painted room before allowing LO in for his first nap?

PetiteRaleuse · 31/01/2013 15:10

A couple of the days until the smell of the paint doesn't tickle your nose. Modern paints aren't dangerous. Except for some radiator paints maybe.

Thechick · 31/01/2013 15:12

Purple and Horsey there's something on YouTube that tells you about the different kinds of ergo. I did lots of research before a bought it.

LO is asleep. Going to make a cup of tea and make a start on the first packet of biscuits

Clarella · 31/01/2013 15:29

horsey - I was sooo close to getting the caboo dx till I found the boba 3g - it can go on back later which caboo can't. I love it. clips to hold your bag on the shoulder, sleep hood and stirrups for long legged toddlers. plus key and phone pockets! ( I'm not selling them, honest!!!)

ValiumQueen · 31/01/2013 15:32

PP childcare. Send LO to a nursery. You should get considerable help with the cost through child tax credits. But do not worry about this unless you secure the job. Hopefully you will x

Brockle · 31/01/2013 15:55

how is J doing today VQ?

Passmethecrisps · 31/01/2013 16:17

Hallo.

Well, if p didn't have a cold before she will now! Went to toddler group again today - was advised to go every day to see which one suited best. Hardly anyone there today and no other babies. One young lady was VERY impressed with penny. So impressed I think she actually tried to lick her. She had a terrible hacking cough and strings of bogies. I was having to stop myself from being massively PFB. I suppose it's good for P to get exposed to people. I would probably rather they didn't try to eat her.

And after all my worries this morning (thank you everyone) p has eaten nicely. I had to feed her at the group - I usually avoid feeding her in public because she can be so unsettled - and she took loads. One lady did say to her child "look! Look at that wee baby being fed by a BOTTLE! A bottle! Do you see?" I am certain that absolutely no offense was intended - she was very nice.

ValiumQueen · 31/01/2013 16:19

Who said that? Grin three times in one week Pass get you! Shy indeed.

BigPigLittlePig · 31/01/2013 16:27

How can babies be so soundly asleep in your arms, and yet the instant you put them down, be so wide awake? How?!
Have tried to declutter today, one box. One measly box and it has taken me all day, and the house looks like we've been burgled to boot.

ValiumQueen · 31/01/2013 16:28

Thank you for asking brockle he is much better than I thought he would be. No temp now for 36 hours, and no meds for pain since 7pm last night. He has his voice back, and snot seems to be shifting. No further vomiting, and is more communicative. He was quite distant at times and you could just tell he had no energy. Even his head buts were feeble. He is feeding better! And more frequently too, I guess to make up for lost time. Poo has eased off. Looking forward to seeing what colour it is when it arrives. Occasional cough - it is the cough I am afraid of. My kids seem to be expert at dreadful coughs. The girls are almost better but still both have temperatures. That is day 7 for DD2 but she seems fairly good in herself. DH continues to be a dying swan despite not having a fever. The way he coughs you expect to see a lobe on the carpet.

Passmethecrisps · 31/01/2013 16:29

I am all over this group business! Actually, today was definitely my least favourite day and I made an early escape. They were only 4 ladies there and they all knew each other already. P did enjoy having her head stroked like a kitten. I will be saline spraying her nose like a mentalist now!

Yeah, the bottle comment was a bit weird. I wasn't quite sure that the child got the emphasis on BOTTLE or why she felt it necessary to make such a point about it. What's wrong with saying "look at the wee baby having her lunch?"

Baby sensory tomorrow!

ValiumQueen · 31/01/2013 16:30

BP I am trying to de-clutter too. It will be worth it. I feel your pain.

Brockle · 31/01/2013 16:36

you could always comment that J seems to be recovering better than your DH vq he may man up then Grin So glad he is on the mend. His poorly picture melts me every time I see it. but I am a soppy git most of the time.Smile

ValiumQueen · 31/01/2013 16:43

Just as well I didn't post the video then!

Passmethecrisps · 31/01/2013 16:43

Bleaurgh VQ smashing mental image!
I am glad you are starting to see some light at the end of the fucking long tunnel

Sophiathesnowfairy · 31/01/2013 16:44

Oh well, we still had a 4pm meltdown despite the Aptamil Comfort.

Glad to hear you 3 are on the way up at least vq sounds like ou have broken the back of it. Do the have lingering night coughs though after a nasty cold like that? All mine do and is impossible to deal with all cough medicines are rubbish except for the ones you can't give them till they are about 34.

Have spent the Afternoon doing a little bit of cooking for Ds1 for the freezer. I feel I have been neglecting his diet a bit since we had O. When the girls are here or on Sundays we all eat together but tbh I find it easier to give him something at 4 so he is done and then pjs and snack at 6 bed at 6:30/45. This often means he has been ending up with beans on toast. Beans with mash. Beans with sausage. And maybe tomato soup. So I thought if I made some more balanced meals for the freezer I could whip them out and reheat. Easy as beans.

So any ideas for toddler proof freezeable meals greatly received. < pleading emoticon>

PetiteRaleuse · 31/01/2013 17:03

Lentil leek and sausage stew, chicken casserole, bolognese sauce, ckicken leek and potato pie filling, to be served as is, small servings of lasagne, ratatouille to be served up with some ham or other cold meat... Small servings of whatever you eat. Fishcakes with whatever he likes in them.
