This really will be the thread where all our babies start sleeping through the night... right?!

Sorry for negativity. At least I can run a 5K. And i think I must be getting smaller... just can't control which order bits of my body do it! Tops are fitting better even though breastfeeding boobs remain the same so that's encouraging. At least I bought the damn jeans and have something to wear now.

squidkid · 12/01/2013 15:23

Jess also grins, laughs or screams with delight literally every time she sees me right now. It's nice to be loved. :)

Celestia · 12/01/2013 15:49

To update on our awful few nights (constant feeding, refusing to settle or sleep other than on me despite always managing to). I'm totally sure it was the dreaded 12week growth spurt as it seems to be business as normal as of last night :). They fed at 8pm, 3am and 7.30am with self settling. Phew!

That phase nearly bloody broke me. Thought it might be useful to know for others who will be hitting it soon :).

funchum8am · 12/01/2013 16:14

That is good to hear celestial! Only problem is we have hit the shit phase at 14 weeks....am hoping it is just a late 12 week growth spurt!

Squid I am also a different shape from pre pregnancy but I was already a size 16 and a fairly mumsy dresser so not feeling as down as I might if I had had a nice figure to lose! That must suck. However I am resisting jeans shopping as I don't want to have to admit that I am now an 18 so am still in maternity jeans and a couple of pairs from previous fat phases (glad I kept them now!)

hufflepuffle · 12/01/2013 16:26

What is the point of cot bumpers? Confused

Do u actually need to put one on or are they just decorative crap??

So inconvenient that I have to BF while DS rearranges furniture in 2 rooms to make way for cot........

See I tried to tell MIL law that I thought they were bad idea due to possibility of suffocation but she disagreed. She was more concerned about stuck legs but I said he slept in sleeping bag so not too concerned.

Think we can do without for now and I'll look in to safer kinds.

Thanks first

Thanks for the sympathy, have shouted at DH and he's stopped being a nobber for now.

I hate jeans shopping. I am very petit so cant even complain because people give me this look Hmm and say "but you're skinny!" As if that means I have a perfect body shape. I dont. If I can get jeans over my thighs I get a huge gap around my waist. I have no boobs to balance out my thighs either and tiny shoulders. Totally pear shaped. I look daft in skinny jeans but no shop seems to sell anything else now. Even jeans labelled 'wide-leg' are skinnier than they used to be I'm sure. I was very grateful for the palazzo pants trend last summer. I used to wear jeans that shape (black goth ones) but they dont exist anymore.

hufflepuffle · 12/01/2013 18:33

DS never liked his uppababy bassinet for some reason! Bloody waste if money!!!! Has been in moses basket on stand level with my side of bed. Not having to clamber round that can only help my poor back! But I will not be able to reach over and click on Ewan the sheep when he's trying to waken up!!!

On that note, anyone over reach for Ewan the sheep in the dark and try to click on baby's ear instead?????? Multiple half asleep episodes......

DH currently about to throw the cot out the door as cannot get sliding mechanism to work smoothly, might not be in tonight.

Well timed feed DS......

hufflepuffle · 12/01/2013 18:37

For those looking new jeans that help shape, got mini next directory in other day and briefly noticed new range of jeans which 'shape' bottom. Yet to check if they exist in their tall range.

Sympathies on the petite jeans search Wantan. I'm the other end if the scale needing 36" inside leg and believe me there's not a lot out there!!!

Angelico · 12/01/2013 18:43

We are using cot tonight too! Wahhhhhhhhhhh! Feel like crying that bean is no longer going to be in (giant) Moses basket, but she is exploding out of it - but she is sooooooooo cute!

Huffle / Cherry I totally caved in and went up last night Blush BUT just as well I did - DH was holding her the one way she absolutely HATES being held even when she is wide awake and happy, never mind when she is tired and crabbit! She would have been screaming forever... It is weird that all of a sudden I feel like the 'expert' - DH was always v good with babies because of giant family / thousands of nephews and nieces etc but I think being the main bean-carer means I am learning the tricks that work with our bean specifically. And as others are finding she is very happy to see me this last couple of weeks - which makes me a bit nervous that I might never be able to go away.

Squid that little Boots top was so cute! I didn't know they did stuff, had a nosey and just saw a cute little caterpillar pinny so thanks for the link! On the jeans buying front I felt your pain last week - grrrr. Thought I'd be buying a size down after weight loss, not a fecking size up!

Firsttime I was going to say about cot bumpers not being dangerous as long as well tied on but see you found the stuff :) Our moses basket was padded all round and the way the bean thrashed arms about she would have been black and blue without it. But they are dangerous for babies who can stand and use them as a handy step - as your poor nephew found out! Confused

Cherry I liked Judy Blume too :) Funnily enough there is a Japan sub-plot in the book - so maybe it will be on sale there eventually :) It's weird the way books take off in different places - I know a UK writer whose books have won awards but didn't sell that well over here for years - but he had a MASSIVE following in Japan!

Bean is 16 weeks next week! Last jabs on Monday thank God and then no more needles till she's one hurrah!

Have a nice weekend ladies! I intend to do as little as possible...! xo

Olivess · 12/01/2013 18:48

Had a lovely day despite the sleep deprivation. Baby olives had a minor meltdown in a cafe but recovered herself once she was in the sling and we went for a walk. Hoping the fresh air will crash her out for tonight.

squid I am a big crafter, mainly knitting, a bit of crochet, some sewing and cross stitch (yes I am an old lady in disguise!) I find knitting very relaxing and therapeutic. It's very satisfying when you make something, plus it's portable when you're out and about. Haven't managed much since DD came along - only a pair of leg warmers for her, these are for when she's in the sling and her little legs are dangling - they keep them warm and snug. I also have a gorgeous pattern for a little poncho which I've bought the wool for but not started yet. Cross stitch is also very relaxing and easy. Etsy has some lovely patterns - I've made some pictures for her nursery (they're quite modern patterns not old fashioned type cross stitch).

Oh and I also can't fit in my jeans, refusing to accept it yet though, one day they WILL fit again.

MickeyTheShortOne · 12/01/2013 18:50

hi everyone. sorry for negativity earlier. DD having a strange couple of days but think she is back to normal today. DP went to ex's today. I still dont know why he thought it was necessary but i have at least worked out why I have such an issue with it.. Theres nothing wrong with her. Shes perfectly fucking nice which is precisely the problem. DP still talks about her like the sun shines out of her arse never mind the fact that she kicked him out and left him with nothing and sometimes it just makes me feel second best. Which is ridiculous, and is my problem, not hers, its just down to my insecurities. I need to grow up. and punch her and start realising that he does actually love me, he would've left by now if he didnt. i hope

in other news, i had my hair cut today while they went to ex's- and i went shopping for some new clothes yesterday. I feel like a new woman Grin

Hope everyone has had a good day. I always wondered what cot bumpers were for too... DD not in cot yet but will be in the next few weeks. thanks for the info ladies. xx

squidkid · 12/01/2013 18:51

Sympathies Wantan. No one's ever called me skinny cause I always had tits (11 years old I said shamefaced to my mum, "I think I need a bra..." my first bra was a C cup! My mum is superskinny and flatchested, she wasn't expecting it at all!)... but the skinny jeans trend, yeah it's EVERYWHERE, and I'm not sure it suits anyone except the very tall and very boyish-hipped.

I have a very nice bum, even post-preg. It's all the hiking/weights I think.

Boyfriend said new jeans were fine and not mum-ish at all and gave me a glass of wine which I feel drunk on and is putting jess to bed now and I feel better. TBH I hated jeans shopping even when I had a nice figure, I swear jeans are designed for the hipless.

Sympathies huffle too - I am short and it's an arse trying to find short trousers, but at least you CAN roll them up or take them up if you're that clever - you can't do anything if you're too tall for them!!!

I am cooking scallops and some sort of self-invented potato and fennel dish. At least I can cook... at least I can run a 5K... grumble grumble!

turnwest · 12/01/2013 20:00

Ok so I ve decided to be brave and do my first post in absolutely ages, mainly to thank everyone who said nice things to me on the Facebook group.
huffle I also have the next directory and I ve been looking at jeans for me, I ve seen the bottom shaping ones and they do them in their tall and petite (for me) range, not sure whether to buy them or not though. I m pretty much the same weight now that I was pre pregnancy but my stomach looks awful, it bulges out slightly and is very wobbly!! I hope I can tone it back up again and I m not stuck with it forever. I ve been mainly wearing leggings and baggy tops but I need to find some decent fitting jeans, just hope nobody thinks I m still pregnant because of my protruding tummy lol.
Is anyone else struggling to find nice tops that they can breastfeed in? I need to buy some new clothes desperately I m sure I look like a scarecrow at times but buying baby things is so much more fun. I hate shopping for me.

celestia, no idea how you re managing twins, I m barely functioning with one, admittedly very high maintenance though.

Has anyone got a baby with a milk protein allergy? Daniel is allergic to milk, just wondered if anyone s found any good dairy alternatives. So far I ve found waitrose dairy free Ice cream and almond milk to both be very yummy.

Anyway, hope you all have a nice weekend.

BoraBora · 12/01/2013 20:54

Times like this I'm pleased that I don't wear jeans...

Beccus · 12/01/2013 21:10

angelico, i know what u mean about feeling teary when u move bean to big cot - i think it just reinforces they r not your little newborn anymore which tugs on the heart strings....it's funny, because at the same time we want them to be gaining weight & getting big. anyway, i felt exactly the same.when we moved to cot. good luck huffle, with your new cot if your dp managed to.assemble it. bf is a great excuse to go chill out somewhere & avoid unpleasant activities :-) yomping, i am not a routine person and like to trust that baby (mostly) knows best when it comes to sleep. re dream feeds, i think of how much better i feel after a nice chunk of unbroken sleep. i reckon interupting the period where u know they sleep the longest is like when i wake to go to the loo - lots of tossing & turning to get back to sleep & feeling less well rested than otherwise the next day. i totally agree with squid - sleep helps sleep, but that's not much help when it is a struggle to get them off at all. is alice is doing really well, increasing her sleeps from 2-3 hrs to 6. i would hold off moving bed time forward as u will probably find she soon sleeps longer anyway and then u can move bedtime forward without having to get up at 3....although if u gradually move bed time earlier, u may find she can sleep longer. get the duration up 1st then faff around with the starting time is what we did and it worked well for us. the evening grouchathons r hard, tho. the more naps babybeccus gets during the day,the less grouchy she is in the evening....a late afternoon/early evening baby massage helps, too.

Elpis · 12/01/2013 21:14

Hufflepuffle

Likewise - I'm nearly 6'... only Zara and (sometimes) H&M or Gap longer length really fit. Which reminds me - I must order some skinny trousers. I resisted the leggings trend for years because I remembered how ghastly they often looked first time round. I gave in while pregnant. Now most of my trousers look dated...

hufflepuffle · 12/01/2013 21:25

Saving grace if skinny jeans now is long boots! I can buy normal people jeans and boots hide how short they are!! just look like a twat at home and remember hideous teenage misfortune when everything looked like had shrunk in wash!

YompingJo · 12/01/2013 21:36

turnwest, I think Londonlivvy has had to go dairy free so she may be able to share some tips. Sorry to hear your bean is high maintenance, can totally sympathise! nights not to bad here (apart from last night) but days are not easy as she is not keen on her own company ever!

Wantanorange I have exactly the same thighs and waist problems with jeans. even the baggy ones are too tight!

Well I've had a thoroughly shit day. I won't bore you with all the details but highlights lowlights were nearly dropping mini yomping, nearly crashing the car, getting a parking fine because I put the pay and display ticket on my dashboard face down, and finding out the hard way that the Colief really is having an effect and if we skip the night time doses we will regret it and mini yomping will suffer Sad. After the horror of last night I'm not going to try a dream feed again, we've come to bed early but I swear mini y knows this as she's feeding for ages... an hour and a quarter so far and still going...

Londonmrss · 12/01/2013 22:17

baby is with my mum all night and dh and I are having our night out for my birthday. I am currently slightly drunk in a pub toilet using a manual breast pump because my let down reflex suddenly kicked in. oh the indignity.

hufflepuffle · 12/01/2013 22:33

Priceless Londonmrss, priceless!!! Enjoy your night, you deserve it!!
