This really will be the thread where all our babies start sleeping through the night... right?!

lol londonmrss!! i dont think the pre-pregnancy dignity is ever retrieved is it?!
yomping blimey your day sounds terrible. big hugs and Wine for you, hope you are recovering. x

bella2012 · 13/01/2013 00:13

Ahh Londonmrs I love it! I have been there, sister! Enjoy your night, you deserve it.

Yomping, what a shitty day and night, you poor thing. Hope you have had a large g&t or similar to steady your nerves! Definitely contest your parking ticket. I once had a similar experience and when I phoned them and explained what had happened they let me off as I wads le to send the ticket.

Ah Mickey, you are so lovely. Don't be hard on yourself, that is a really difficult situation to manage. I get really insecure sometimes and it is such a hard thing to cope with. Can you remember yomping's coping strategy from the AN thread about feeding the good dog. (we may need a proper explanation yomping, if you don't mind :)) because I often mentally refer to it to try and stop myself from dwelling on all the negative possibilities.

Squid I am a total craft enthusiast! No training and nothing terribly neat, I just love making stuff. My wedding was a real rustic, homemade affair so Igor a bit hooked after that. I dream of being able to make stuff for a living but that is a long way off!! I love making bunting & was thinking I could ask people to send me 5 items of baby clothing that could be made into bunting for a first birthday. What do you think? A good easy first project for you could be something like a fabric advent calendar for jess, then you have all year to make it! There are loads of patterns about and you sew on the little pockets to put little treats in for them to open every day. I wasbusy making one for ds1 when I went into labour with ds2! I have marked where I got up to before the pain got too bad and i had to stop with a cross! I bought a big pack of finger puppets and choccy coins and he got one or the other every day.great fun. I miss sewing actually. The only time. I sit down is to feed so I can only do one handed things!!

My little fella absolutely loves sticking his tongue out. It is so funny. He is absolutely thrilled with himself and really laughs if I do it too. Anyone else had a phase like that?

firstbubba · 13/01/2013 01:08

Ladies no waking the baby for dream feeds, its done when they are asleep down for 8-8.30 ish here and dream fed at roughly 11pm.

smile4me · 13/01/2013 01:43

Did you sort your hair dye disaster out orenishi ? Arghhhhh fir the orange let alone the missed patch Smile And Confused to the crazy op shop ladies asking you when no 2 is due.... talk about mouth working before brain! That happened to a friend of mine too just as she was starting to feel OK about herself again at about 7 or 8 months post partum.

Sorry you had such a crappy day yomping but well done for not dropping mini... good protective motherly reflexes kicking in

olivess did you get a better sleep last night? Brew needed either way! I can't believe your DH slept through 3 feeds! That's pretty good going... probably still complained how tired he was in the morning eh? I'm sure it's just that dreaded growth spurt if she's 12 weeks. Bloody tiring. And totally fed up with the old fashioned advice... my DM told me I should be giving DD tastes of everything now so she doesn't become a fussy eater (this was at 7 weeks). Nod and smile and have a Wine when she leaves.

smiley I would tell your friend to ENJOY everything as they're small for such a short time and make the most of the time with those cuddles, and to always have the camera ready and use it heaps. Also not to listen/get disheartened by people who say their babies slept really well from birth/1 month/3 months if theirs isn't... they'll be paying for it somewhere else (like not being able to get bubba to sleep during the day!) How exciting for them thoughGrin

yay for your mammoth sleep cherry

Love the baby grow squid very cute. And go for it with the sewing! I'm planning on making DD a mobile with little felt animals and a quilt at some point soon.

Great to hear things are improving celestia

It sounds like everyone has trouble with jeans then... must be made for some mythical average woman, kinda like baby clothes are made for the non-existent except on medical charts average baby! I have really short legs, like 28" and a large and rounded arse kinda like a caribbean woman! So by the time the bum fits the waist is huge, and if I take the legs up you lose the bootcut shape and have the pre-faded bits what is the point down by my ankles. Our babies should definitely make the most of wearing nice clothes now while they can!

YompingJo · 13/01/2013 02:00

Ah Bella, I'd love to take credit but the feeding the dark dog thing was from lisbethsopposite who always put me straight if I was beating myself up over things that really didn't matter it were not my fault. I am trying to adopt the strategy of "progress not perfection" so the progress that came out of yesterday is that I now know the Colief is working; I now know to be careful how I display a pay and display ticket (thanks for the tip, I'll phone the council and explain) and I have been reminded that if you leave a car in gear then come back to it and turn the ignition on before you get in it, you will have to chase it across the car park ConfusedBlush. As someone else said very recently - I used to be intelligent...

MickeyTheShortOne · 13/01/2013 02:56

thankyou bella, i do remember reading that. it was a good perspective on life Smile
yomping definately ring the council about the parking ticket- im sure you could get away with it. x

funchum8am · 13/01/2013 04:36

yomping I have done that with a car park ticket and they let me off when I sent a photocopy of the ticket in. Hopefully your council or whoever it is will be reasonable.

funchum8am · 13/01/2013 04:40

olivess I love knitting but am self-taught and can only do a limited range of techniques. I made baby leggings too for use with the sling and in fact babyfunch wore them for the first time today Smile. I am going to start on a matching hat some time.

Re bedtimes babyfunch sleeps beautifully from 7 pm to 2am so our issue is not bedtime but getting longer sleeps. She wakes to feed around 2 but then starts straining painfully and can only sleep on me til poo arrives about 7am Sad I cannot wait til this phase passes!

smileyhappymummy · 13/01/2013 05:09

Don't know what's going on tonight but suddenly she's feeding every hour. Currently on feed six since midnight. So tired. She's 14.5 weeks, seems slightly odd timing for growth spurt but could be I guess.....

Smorgs · 13/01/2013 05:53

Urgh poor smiley, big hug and cup on coffee to you Brew

lisbethsopposite · 13/01/2013 07:02

finally caught up ... on kindle!
I'm glad peoplefind the dog analogy helpful. I forget where I read it but I also dwelt too much on the negative and then wondered why i felt sad.

Livvy, baby is in bed with me. I can't tellhow many night feeds we do. we were down to 1/2/3 (i think). I only half wake up. This week is a disaster as he is poorly and either feeding (a little) every hour or using boob as a soother.

lisbethsopposite · 13/01/2013 07:25

Mikey - this ex visiting is not ok. Aeons ago when i was dating, if a guy dumped you , you bought a new outfit. Something short /tight/both. We called it a 'look at what you're missing' dress. He reminds me of that. What does the ex think? Is her ego flattered?
Your baby is not a short skirt. I would be pissed that he visited her but no way would i allow him to bring baby!

Another one struggling with jeans here. me because of sore vagina.

Huffle - you sound like elle McPherson . No jealousy here...

Paul finally took bottle yesterday. Thanks for tips.Dh very proud of self .

Re crafts. I bought a ready kit to make Christmas bunting. It's in the attic untouched.

What slings are people using?

Woolybob · 13/01/2013 07:35

smiley bad night here too, I think our lo are the same age? I was thinking she was catching up after the cold she had but maybe there is a growth spurt, in my bf group they said there are loads, ppl only generally notice the main ones but can get mini ones any time. So hopefully won't last long!

londonlivvy · 13/01/2013 09:49

OMG I am so behind. Monster catchup coming.

On the jeans front, I know the pain well of finding the right pair, squid wantan smile and huffle. huffle I know levi?s do 36 inside leg and I would second the recommendation for Zara as their trousers are always insanely long and cover my entire feet (though I am 5ft9, it?s all torso). I bought a pair of temporary jeans (aka I can?t fit into pre preg and wearing preg jeans too depressing for words) - butt-lifting ones from tesco online (£16) and they are not bad at all. Still a little snug round the waist but hopefully if I keep doing yoga etc then they will fit. Oh and huffle tesco do long leg length too but not sure if long enough for you. smile I?m told jane Norman is the shop for you ? a friend of mine was similarly shaped and swore by their trousers.
Also: has everyone seen this site which takes your actual measurements and tells you which shops would fit you best. sizes.darkgreener.com/

Cannot remember who said they used to wear jumper dresses and couldn?t any more cos of BF, but boob design do some dresses you can BF in. Just a thought.

Re dream feeds, interesting, yomping. We have a system that DF goes in to wake and feed her at 10.30 whilst I sleep and then I deal with her after that. I?m going to be down at my parents for a week so no-one to do the 10.30 feed so I may try not waking her up for that feed and just wait til she wakes me up. If I go to bed at 9 and then I get a 2am feed and then 7 (say, I?m being optimistic, here), then that has to be better than getting her up for the 1030 one too. Interesting.

Couldn?t agree more squid re naps leading to better sleep. When DD is overtired she won?t feed, won?t settle, etc etc. hideous. Much better to ensure naps. Though one of my friends? daughter won?t nap at all during the day and sleeps for 12 hours at night. Think I?d rather that if I got the choice!

mickey sympathy re the shit nights.

Happy hols crazy. We are talking about going away in April and I have the fear about going away. Weird cos going to my parents doesn?t scare me particularly, but the thought of aeroplanes and airports etc. EEK.

woolybob good luck being single parent. I had to do it for 5 days whilst DF and MIL were away and it was manageable, if a little lonely. As you say, full respect to those who are single parents. Also wish I could knit but am rubbish. Fortunately MIL can and is v.keen. yay for that.

squid I agree with you re not wantng your child to perpetually be in stuff that?s miles too big. But that?s probably because I was a third child so never had any clothes bought for me and just had to wear whatever was available. We?ve been lent huge numbers of clothes so have only bought 6 babygros so far I think though.

I?m going to see a heavily pregnant friend today and will try not to spread doom.

huffle on the remarks on DS?s size. How odd.

celestia you are awesome for managing with twins. Well done!

Hiturnwest yes, dd is allergic to milk too. I like the almond milk. Oat milk isn?t bad either. Haven?t tried the icecream yet but sounds like I need to! Thanks for the tip. The freefrom range of biscuits etc from sainsburys is great. And I find cornflour in sauces instead of a roux works absolutely fine when cooking. My mum did me an awesome (dairy free) almond cake. I must ask her for the recipe. Will pass it on!

firsttime it was odd when DD was in her cot (in another room) for the first time. But I definitely sleep better without her.

londonmrss parenting is full of glamour isn?t it?? Hope the rest of your night out was fun

Londonmrss · 13/01/2013 09:52

oh god I am such an idiot. had a lovely night out, had nice drunky sex, forgot to take my pill, didn't remember till it was too late and now I have to go and get the morning after pill. bollocks. bollocks.

BoraBora · 13/01/2013 09:55

That clothing size site is brilliant and really depressing

MickeyTheShortOne · 13/01/2013 10:29

much better night here, DD back to normal.. woke up at 2.30, 6 and 8.30. bed was at 10pm last night. This, i can cope with!!

Similarly bad week of sleep here. I think DD is using me as a dummy, too.

I think chronic lack of sleep is building up Hmm

Someone give me the kick up the arse I need to go for a run!

OctoberOctober · 13/01/2013 12:41

BoraBora - go run! I've just come back from a run and feel much more lively. Was put off by how parky it is out there but layer up and it's fine.

Olivess · 13/01/2013 12:49

We had a better night. DD slept for 2.5 hours at a time through the night which is ok.

Went to the library yesterday and got the no cry sleep solution book. Most of the advice is more applicable for 4 months plus but there are some good ideas for things to do now as well. Feeling a bit more optimistic.

bella love the idea of making bunting out of babygros. Have just sorted all the 0-3 month babygros that DD has grown out of so going to choose me favourite!

OctoberOctober · 13/01/2013 14:11

Just had a look at the discarded Gina Ford book (not used since wk4 I think) and apparently by now (12 weeks) DS should only be having 3 hrs sleep during the day... This means he would be awake from 2.30 - 7pm, when he barely happily manages being awake more than 2hrs.

I think that book is going back where it came from..

BoraBora · 13/01/2013 14:32

Went for run, feeling better. Will feel better still once the roast that's cooking is inside me.

Out of interest, will anyone else be bringing up their DCs veggie?

crazypaving · 13/01/2013 15:55

we're on holiday!

flying with a two year old and three month old is pretty full on! ds1 was super excited and loved it, and did so well considering he didn't get a nap (usually sleeps for 3hrs in the day!). ds2 did well too but needed feeding at all the most awkward times. feeding across a plane seat is awkward, I'd forgotten. anyone else finding their baby won't feed much when out and about? he's already too distracted - seems too young Confused

livvy we got treated like royalty at the airport - didn't have to queue once! it was awesome!

oh and ds1 drank my entire 750ml bottle of water and his nappy leaked through his trousers onto the plane seat. that wasn't great. didn't have any spare clothes for him either so had to wait til we got our bag! then my dad was 45mins late picking us up...hey ho!

on the great jeans debate, I'm living in topshop Baxter maternity jeans. comfort over all for me! and I can't bear the idea of struggling with "proper" jeans yet. will worry about that later

BoraBora · 13/01/2013 15:59

Hurray and well done Crazy! Where are you on your hols?
