This really will be the thread where all our babies start sleeping through the night... right?!

thanks for asking cherry, I am feeling way better today. I slept from 1945 to 0345 (woke several times but straight back) then til 0645 (dd shouted briefly at 5 & 6 but settled back no probs). yay. I am a new woman.

There is no point trying to sleep past 7am as we have a very loud and very hungry cat who starts lobbying for breakfast from daybreak/630 (which ever is earlier). he literally throws himself at our bedroom door if yowls are ignored. for any kiwis reading this, he is rather like horse from footrot flats.

anyway with that huge dose I am much much cheerier. I went to a mother and baby group this morning and met some nice folk. and I got loads of wedmin done at lunchtime. I know lots of people function fine on five hours' sleep but not me!!

I ventured out to my first baby massage class today. Has anyone else tried this? It was fun and the other ladies seem nice. Baby cheesy seemed particularly keen on a young lad next to us. I tried to tell her to play hard to get! Unfortunately she chose to do a massive smelly poo mid-class... She's pooing every two days this week and they are epic!

MickeyTheShortOne · 10/01/2013 16:20

Cheesy DD was pooing once a week.. you can imagine what that was like Wink it was a bath job every time! However this week things have changed and she seems to be doing less.. err explosive/minging/korma-like/gooey (delete as appropriate) ones every day or couple of days. Which is good, I was getting sick of putting her in the bath every time she went for a poo!

Londonlivvy Glad you have had a better sleep. A big chunk like that does wonders!!

DD has started reaching out and hitting things in her baby gym today. I've spent the entire day grinning like an idiot at her because she grins and makes the cutest noises every time she does it. And I feel a bit better making a concerted effort to do stuff with her :) She also looks at me like this Hmm when I start singing... Although Old Macdonald seems to be a favourite!!

Elpis · 10/01/2013 16:21

Bella2012 - I was exactly the same with DD! I bulk-cooked and froze dozens of little meals for her. In our defence, it's also cheaper than buying lots of baby food.

cherry - I don't know what the recommendations are for vitamin D in Japan, but I imagine you get a lot more sunlight there, so maybe it's not so important.

Had lunch with a friend whose DS is four months old and who's about to start weaning. 'But why?' I said. 'He wants to eat,' she said, then told me it was a 'cultural thing' (her father's from Guyana). That put me in my place, I suppose. Blush Still don't get it, though. Cooking for three enough for me at the moment...

MickeyTheShortOne · 10/01/2013 16:25

at Celestia Hi :) I remember you posting on the antenatal threads! I don't know how you are managing with twins..!

Londonmrss · 10/01/2013 16:43

I feel crap about the way I look. it's not just that in still a bit fat and have got a couple of stone to lose. it's just I hate all my clothes, I never have time to put on any make up and I'm always covered in milk / sick / poo. I hardly have time to wash my hair so it's just a frizzy mass scrapped back in a pony tail. I haven't shaved my legs in weeks and my bikini line is trailing on the floor. I think I used to be ok to look at but now I'm just a scruffy leaky mum.
me me me... sorry

MickeyTheShortOne · 10/01/2013 17:01

Londonmrss i'm sure you don't look that bad. If its any help- I feel like that too. Use some of that maternity pay and treat yourself? I haven't looked at the hair on my gorrilla legs.. and its Fanuary! You have a great excuse to leave your bikini line trailing on the floor Wink.

Sorry. That probably wasn't helpful at all. Big cuddles and Wine? I'll shut up now.. But I hope you feel a bit better tomorrow. You are allowed days like this to eat lots of chocolate

Celestia · 10/01/2013 17:05

Hi Micky and First :).

I'm not quite sure either Micky. I won't lie, it's bloody hard work!

I went to see my hv this afternoon and she couldn't really give me any advice other than try hu gry baby milk. Not really sure as I've heard it can make them constipated. Anyway, Ive bought a large bottle to just use overnight to see if it makes any difference. Hopefully it's just a growth spurt/developmental leap....please!

First, no I don't feel guilty about ff. However, with my dd (now almost 6) it was a totally different story. I was hell bent on bf her and did so for a year but I struggled and found it very overwhelming. Looking back, I'm convinced it delayed bonding (I bonded with the twins immediately and feel totally different this time ) and contributed to my pnd. There's so much pressure to bf (the posters promoting it at the doctors/hospital used to haunt me every time I thought about giving my dd1 formula) and I have no doubt that breast is best but it's a blanket statement that doesn't account for each woman's individual circumstances. In my case, I wasn't about to risk becoming depressed as I had to think of my whole family especially with having twins. My pnd affected Te whole family for a long time :(.

BoraBora · 10/01/2013 17:06

Hi London, I feel exactly the same. I actually feel quite down about it. I'm trying to shift some weight so have spent this week hungry as well as knackard. Imagine my horror when I realise that I've actually put 2lbs on. HmmHmmHmm I don't know what to do for the best.

I look like shit and as soon as I think about sorting it out, I think, what's the point? I haven't got anywhere to go anyway!

bella2012 · 10/01/2013 17:27

Londonmrs and bora I feel exactly the same about my appearance.i hate hate hate my clothes and feel like I can't even look nice if I try. With dh's job situation, I can't even treat myself to something new to cheer me up. However, I met a friend today who kept saying how nice my hair looked and asked what had I done to make it so shiny. She has a baby too and knows the Craig so I answered honestly that it is shiny coz until today it hadn't been washed for bloody ages!! Showers are lightening quick these days- hair washing is a luxury! We were meant to be going for a powerwalk as both our big boys were at playgroup so we just had buggies, however this blessed rain put paid to that. So we went for coffee and cake instead at the cafe in our village. So I deserve no sympathy for how fat I am!! Oh but it was bliss. I love ds1's company, don't get me wrong but for us to actually chat to each other instead of running round after toddlers was soooo nice. Enjoy this phase while you can ladies. Go for as many coffees as you can because it gets harder and harder to do that kind of thing. Not impossible, but there is lot more colouring in, sticker pictures and sharing of cake!!;

bella2012 · 10/01/2013 17:30

She knows the CRAIC not CRAIG!! Nobber phone!!

Smorgs · 10/01/2013 17:56

elpis interesting re vit D research. French health policy is to give it up to 2 yrs old. I am giving daily dose of 1mg to Smorglet on prescription - and bear in mind I'm in south of France where sunlight not in shortage! Also have to give vit k once a week for as long as I breastfeed.

londonmrss sorry you're feeling crap. I have days like that too. My lovely shiny preg hair is now a frizzy mess and I am wearing eau de baby puke daily... Wow he just puked up on me as I typed that?! I find blow drying my hair straight makes me feel heaps better and Smorglet seems to like the noise of the dryer.

Urgh up since 4am this morning but weirdly don't feel that tired. Smorglet keeps throwing up about an hour after feeding - that's reflux right? In other news I finally worked out how to use the rain over for my buggy properly today. How has this taken almost 3 months? I used to be intelligent.

Cross posted bella - yes I can see how hair washing can become a luxury when you have two, let alone blow drying!

HELP!!

To those that have had periods, what did it start off like? I've got a bit of pinkish discharge. Could this be dreaded periods starting again? Or a consequence of being fingered by the physio yesterday??

Argh!!

Smorgs · 10/01/2013 18:05

cheesy yes I'm starting baby massage soon , can't wait! You might want to have a quiet word with dd about her flirting technique!

OP posts:
funchum8am · 10/01/2013 18:14

Sorry bora no periods here yet so can't advise but I hope for your sake it is jus the result of the attentions of the physio!

I did a baby massage course recently and DD absolutely loves massages now. They actually stimulate her so I do it when I need her to stay awake, whereas for me massage makes me sleepy. Weird.

Londonmrss · 10/01/2013 18:19

bora my period came just like a normal period although maybe a little lighter and shorter and I didn't notice any pms (although who would notice store boobs and grumpiness these days). see how it progresses, but could just be from the finger fun.

Angelico · 10/01/2013 18:36

Cherry I write teen stuff :) Got a thousand words done today so feeling a bit less panic-stricken. It's hard having a young baby AND trying to write as both are quite all-consuming. I have to remind myself I can still do it.

Bora my first period was at about 9 weeks after D&C so it was quite clotty and painful and might have been last bits of placenta etc. But first 'normal' period arrived yesterday (bean is just over 15 weeks) and it looks the same as it ever did - but I had some pinkish discharge the night before so it possibly is your period. Had to go and buy my first Bodyform and Tampax today for a year

I seem to be shedding hair in handfuls at the minute too!

Oh - and we have gone from a poo every two days to every three days - and now daily for the last few days!

HoneyMumandSon · 10/01/2013 18:49

Ooh angelico I'm writing my phd on teen lit. Wonder of I'm using any of your stuff!

WantAnOrange · 10/01/2013 19:19

I'll be doing BLW too! Please don't wean before 26 weeks. There is a good explaination of why on Kelleymom. I am looking forward to it though! I quite liked Annabel Karmel first time round. I had no clue so it gave me lots of ideas. Now I'm more confident I'll just be giving DD bits of whatever we have. Thanks for the link crazypaving, I could do with some ideas on what to say to certain relative who weaned her babies at 3 weeks and "they were fine!" Hmm Cant leave her alone with DD or she'll be feeding her chocolate fingers behind my back, love her!

crazypaving · 10/01/2013 19:30

3 WEEKS????

hufflepuffle · 10/01/2013 19:40

3 weeks?????!!!!!! Sweet lord.

Did I tell u all my SIL as newborn was given tinned carrots in hospital by midwives????? Wouldn't take milk apparently. But this was 46 years ago!

I am skinny, of the 'are u not eating?' category. And I feel and look like shit too. More than cursory make up is impossible, not had hair out if ponytail in 3 months, skin on legs and upper arms is actually scaly and hairs on legs about 2 cm long....... Any wonder I've no interest in DTD??

But again, what is the point? I've more to worry about.

I'm trying to be oddly comforting here, believe it or not, but it's not just weight related, I think it's just par for the course at this stage!

Smorgs · 10/01/2013 19:46

Dont want to givr impression i was advocating weaning from 5 months, it's just what they advise can be given if you want to. Just thought you might want to know what they do over here Smile
