From me, not Tesco ^^

TheDetective · 22/12/2012 09:51

That rant took me an hour to write one handed while feeding!! Sorry!

Blush

We got 4 hours between feeds again! YES! VQ get the damn swaddle wrap! Get one, I'm telling you!!! He doesn't like it when he is awake wriggling to get his hands out but once asleep and wrapped, he sleeps for much longer than usual! And the sleep is proper sleep not grunty fidgety sleep!

TheDetective · 22/12/2012 09:53

The best compensation would be seeing that smug git get told he was wrong. And the shittest 'customer service' assistant ever. Grin

I hate inconsistency!

Bryzoan · 22/12/2012 10:34

Det - infuriating! I would have cried too. And then hit him.

How are those in thrush club getting on? I am unsure whether I have a problem or just paranoia. I think I have auld case down below (noticed yesterday) and my nipples and let down aare a little sore ( but not excruciatingly any means). No White dots in g's mouth that I can see but his feeding seems a little fuzzier and he is bringing up more feeds again. What are your thoughts?

Bryzoan · 22/12/2012 10:35

Feeding is fussier, not fuzzier. He doesn't seem in distress though.

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 22/12/2012 10:39

VQ LOL Xmas Grin

pikz you're welcome. If you feel at all flu-ey, you need antibiotics asap. If it doesn't go within 48hrs max, see the GP. You don't want an abscess....

detective not read yours yet, but hate stores that don't know their own policies or fail to ensure they are consistent. Our pet hate is b&q. They refuse to do returns on things they don't "carry" until you point to the sign that says "return to any store" directly beneath them & ask to see the manager. Arsewipes. Grrr.

Don't have a routine for DS yet. DD's is the same process but has never been a specific time. Think that will change in the new yr to make it easier on everyone!! We do dinner as a family, maybe finish a film or something (but this will prob change) then upstairs. Bath every other night/wash, then nappy, pjs whilst playing lullabies cd, milk & story, teeth, bed. Sometimes she talks to herself for ages, other times its straight to sleep. Will start with a nappy change, feed in our bedroom with low lighting for DS at about 11pm, regardless of when he last fed, to get him in a routine after Xmas I think, in the hope he sleeps until 3 or 4ish. Maybe play lullabies cd for him too. Then gradually bring the time forward & introduce more baths, as he has dry skin.

Bryzoan · 22/12/2012 10:40

And a mild case down below.

StuntNun · 22/12/2012 10:44

Bryzoan my nipples are scarlet (sorry if TMI but they're usually brown) and as the infection gets worse feeding goes from ouchy to cheesegrater to broken glass. J did have white stuff in his mouth which has now gone with the Nystatin but I think that between me, baby, pump, expressed milk and dummies we are just passing it around. His bum and my 'down below' are both clear thankfully, no I don't think that it would serve DH right if he got a nasty case of thrush, oral or otherwise .

detective will say again, arsewipe. Power trip is right. Prick.

rowingdowntheriver · 22/12/2012 10:53

Thanks for your routine chunky, I think there are bits of it I will steal.

Ok, so I spoke too soon earlier when I said we had a miracle night. Turns out DH couldn't settle Ds2 until 2.30 am so actually a 5.30 wake up isn't particularly special after all!

On top of that, I have just discovered we have a leaky window and it is pissing with rain here.

detective, customer service like that really gets me wound up. No wonder you are unhappy with Tesco.

rowingdowntheriver · 22/12/2012 10:53

Sorry, I mean to thank sophie

rowingdowntheriver · 22/12/2012 10:54

sophia doh

ValiumQueen · 22/12/2012 11:16

stunt Grin I also think that scarlet nipples is hardly TMI after what we have all shared!

pikz I think as you have a temp it would be worth seeing someone today. Hope you are better soon x

Right, this swaddle thing... Linkey please?

Also, about 1000 threads ago someone mentioned nursing bras that fitted over several sizes, about £10 or so. Can anyone remember what they were called? My mothercare ones are still too small despite my breasts settling. I do not want to spend a fortune.

CharleeWarlee · 22/12/2012 11:37

Damn, only just found this post-natal thread. Looks like i've got alot of reading to do o.O

Peaky1 · 22/12/2012 11:38

Just got out the shower (yippee!!) and gave decided I'm getting sick of jeans. People were talking about dresses for BF earlier. Any tips or particular shops?

Stunt thanks for the Kindle tips there. I can't wait to get one! I have a recommendation for a heart felt comedy (I'm usually fantasy/sci-fi/crime etc and am happy to admit that I got bored of pride and prejudice after 50 pages of her describing a blade of grass). It's called the woman who went to bed for a year by Susan Townsend. I'm only halfway through due to lack if time and 1-handed skills (!) but it's had me in stitches!

TheDetective · 22/12/2012 11:47

I got my swaddle from boots, am on phone at the min! It was a grobag swaddle. It's not a Velcro one. Am getting another from Argos, the summer swaddle wrap. That has Velcro. The first size is up to 14lb.

misslaughalot · 22/12/2012 11:49

Just about managing to keep up with reading the thread, but posting has been pretty much beyond me until now!

Babylaughalot had a nightmare day yesterday, she was sound asleep having her afternoon sleep when the midwife came (why can't they ever give you even a rough time that they might be arriving?!) so was woken when we stripped her off to be weighed. This was 4.30. It's fab that she's now above her birth weight and so has been discharged, but she then wouldn't go back to sleep, and was fussy for the rest of the day, missing her evening nap too and not getting to sleep until 11.20! She's had more sleep today already than she had all day yesterday! And she's going to get more as we're off to Cornwall this afternoon to spend Christmas and new year with my folks.

Detective that really is rubbish service from Tesco. Let us know what response you get from your complaint.

Peaky I've bough some tops and a dress that goes with leggings from Mamaway, might be worth a look?

kirrinIsland · 22/12/2012 12:01

detective I'm not surprised you're annoyed. I often wonder why people like that work in customer facing roles when they clearly don't like customers.

Our even routine, as dictated by N, is to alternate between feeding and crying from 9 till midnight and then consent to going in the Moses basket. Luckily she does sleep for a good few hours after that. I do dim the lights and keep things quiet but other than that I'm not really doing anything to attempt to get her down any earlier.

that means, of course, that I get no time to myself really - I miss my evenings where I could actually do stuff, but hopefully it won't be for too long.
I am managing to keep the kitchen vaguely clean and wipe round the bathroom, along with laundry but other than that the house is a hovel and it's starting to get me down - and I'm really not a neat freak by any stretch of the imagination. It just annoying when you can see something really needs doing and you just can't get to it :(

Is anyone else feeding literally all day? N is 6 weeks and she goes 1.5 hours between feeds - but only because I make her! Left to her own devices she'd feed every 20 minutes or so.

blonderthanred · 22/12/2012 12:39

kirrin mine seems to alternate days between feeding all day (yesterday 9-4) and being more chilled out (today just had to wake him for a feed). May be something to do with him keeping the supply going?

Peaky we have the exact same thing with shoulder time - he loves being carried about but if you dare to sit down he is furious. They must like the view!

Passmethecrisps · 22/12/2012 12:39

Should have said £10 from Amazon. There are different types I think. I am going to get more.

StuntNun · 22/12/2012 12:55

This is the bra that fits over several sizes, I have been wearing them since late pregnancy and at night as well. www.more4mums.co.uk/maternity/maternity-bras/emma-jane-next-generation-seam-free-maternity-nursing-bra-361.html
They're super comfy but not amazingly supportive so you couldn't go out jogging in them.

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 22/12/2012 12:56

peaky try mamafeelsgood.com (they have an eBay shop) & have a cheap dress & smart top in black & purple. Also NCT does some good bits.

stunt no, no me time here either. Told DH I haven't had a break from either child or both in at least 6wks. I was hoping for a couple of hours off last night, but our girls night was cancelled. :(

kirrin your evening routine made me smile :)

Belgrano · 22/12/2012 13:20

Kirrin I remember learning (am a student midwife) that in tribal societies where babies are carried all day long near the breast they tend to feed every 20 mins or so. Researchers think that's how we've evolved so I think your DD is entirely within her rights (like mine!) at wanting feeding all the time. I guess it's not their fault we want to cook dinner and clean the bathroom. I have the same problem though-particularly in the evening. My DS was the same too. I've decided i am going to fashion an African style sling and leave my boobs out for the evening and see how we go...!

PetiteRaleuse · 22/12/2012 13:45

Wow, just took me 40minutes to catch up on less than a day's chat on here.

Bedtime routines don't happen in my house, other than dinner, teeth, nappy change and into bed with an iphone or ipad to watch youtube videos for 20 minutes or so. That's DD1. Could be any time from 7pm to 10pm though.

Tesco are shite Detective. I go out of my way to avoid them when in the UK because of how rubbish they were when I lived in London many years ago.

LO developed a scaly rash on her face suddenly earlier in the week after spending half an hour or so snuggling up to a friend. I assume it was a reaction to a different washing powder to the one she's used to. I went down over the next few days. It didn't seem to bother her. I use Mustela baby moisturising cream on her face. It's very gentle and the paediatrician said I could use it and it would help the rash. I don't know if you can get it over there.

Pissing it down with rain here. Nothing like as bad as in the UK.

There was a horrible story in the news here this week of a two day old baby being kidnapped from one of my local maternity wards. She was found thank God later the same day. Does anyone else feel less able to handle news stories involving children since having children of your own?
