Will go back and read the last couple of pages in a minute, but just wanted to sheepishly say that the twins, being the grand old age of 10 weeks on Tuesday, have never seen the inside of a bath tub Blush They do get top and tailed as needed though.

DesperateHousewife21 · 23/12/2012 10:25

Def not having anymore, two is enough and I've got one of each so feel its complete now.

We're going to take them out for a walk later then chill out for the day, think my mum might be coming round too.

Doesn't feel like its Christmas soon, too grey and warm.

ValiumQueen · 23/12/2012 10:26

pass try not to count up the fluids as you go. Just jot it down then review the next morning. If she will not take it, she will not take it, and worrying is gonna make her less likely to take it. She will be ok, some days they are more sleepy or less hungry than others but often make up for it the next day.

DS vomited vast amounts this morning just after we had both got washed and dressed. Blooming mucus. He seems happier for it.

horsey that is lovely. Healing is happening x do prepare for his first birthday though as I found it hit me really badly. If you are prepared then you are likely to cope better. I was not expecting to feel how I did. I know it is a way off, but I thought best say now otherwise I would forget.

Evilwater · 23/12/2012 10:27

Urgent news!!!!
N manged to move around on his back in the cot.

He gets bathed once a week usally on Sunday night.
Evil

ValiumQueen · 23/12/2012 10:31

cat I am so glad you said that. DS was bathed in hospital and that is it as he has had a cold since age 1 week. It also makes a difference if you have other kids too. Time just goes. He is sparkly clean though, and the washable wipes means he has his bum washed properly a dozen times a day. He will be having a bath over Christmas though.

ValiumQueen · 23/12/2012 10:33

evil congratulations Nick! I swear DS moves a few inches towards me at night. DH probably moves him to give himself more room.

Catbag · 23/12/2012 10:40

pass Do not let this stress you out. In my experience medical professionals are obsessed with babies piling on as much weight as possible in the shortest amount of time. My 10 yr old DD was one of twins and only weighed 3lb 11oz when she was born. She was slow to put on weight despite feeding well, and I was pushed into high calorie formula top ups when she was 8 weeks old to increase her weight. Granted this was to get her heavy enough to possibly undergo heart surgery, but even after it was ascertained that this would not be necessary, they were still obsessed. She tickled along underneath the 0.4th percentile for the first 2 years of her life, but maintained a steady curve and hit pretty much most of her developmental milestones more or less on time. My point is that she is a sturdy ten year old who is actually tall for her age and very bright, and no one can believe it when I tell them about her problems at birth. From such a tiddly start she has caught up beautifully now. Follow your instinct with your daughter. Had the consultant not said that, you would not be worried at all (I assume). They work on generalisation of thousands of babies; you are working on the specifics of P.

Passmethecrisps · 23/12/2012 10:41

Ach, a wee bit of dirt never did anyone any harm! P gets a bath every day but that is more about us than her need.

Right, I have taken our temperatures with both an inner ear thermometer and a forehead strip. The forehead strip has us both as normal but the inner ear one has us both with a temperature. Unfortunately the inner ear one changes every single time we use it. My temperature ranges from 38.1 to 40.8. Does anyone have experience of this?

I thought P looked a bit flushed this morning and I feel dreadful.

blonderthanred · 23/12/2012 10:43

I'm another top and tailer, we've done a few baths but it hasn't seemed necessary and causes a lot of screaming (mostly him) and poo accidents (all him, but usually ends up on me). Am hoping to make it part of bedtime routine in future along with massage as that seems to make him sleep for hours.

Passmethecrisps · 23/12/2012 10:47

Thanks cat and VQ. I need to chill out. When she is awake she seems happy and alert. I promised Dh that I would just let her sleep today rather than insist on waking her up. She slept for just over 7 hours - waking up hungry.

Christmas is falling solely on DH's shoulders this year - poor soul!

Catbag · 23/12/2012 10:51

pass I've put a pic of my kids onto fb so you can see how awesome/ beautiful/ tall my tiddley baby twin turned out at 10 years old Grin

ValiumQueen · 23/12/2012 11:03

pass I think your thermometer is faulty. If your temp were that high you would feel awful. Might be time for a new one as you need to be able to rely on it.

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 23/12/2012 11:30

pass catbag speaks wise words!!

Pants were a bit of a fail this morning - DD doesn't like stopping what she's doing to go for a wee. 1 wet carpet later... She had already decided to wear a nappy out with the GP so that's fine.

TooManyDicksOnTheDancefloor · 23/12/2012 11:44

Well we're definitely stopping at two. We've got a five year age gap which is great. Dd1 is really self sufficient and sleeps through the night, she doesn't even wake when B is screaming for food!

We only bathe B twice a week, wash her bum every nappy change as she developed nappy rash. Wash face and neck every day.

We've been following the baby whisperer EASY routine. We work in three hour intervals, she feeds first, then stays awake for an hour then sleeps for 1hr 30mins. And repeat! Start at 7am each day and she's ready to sleep for the night by 9pm. She then sleeps for 5hrs, wakes 2-3am for feed, then sleeps till 6-7am.

Works well for us, did it with Dd1 too. We're very flexible though and I feed on demand if she needs it. Just means we know where we are and she sleeps well at night.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 23/12/2012 11:57

Ha, got to Holyhead. Baby sleep times out of the window but breaks for feed times adhered to! Hopefully have a perky Olly for the afternoon on the boat so my nights sleep won't be too wrecked. Xmas Hmm

TheDetective · 23/12/2012 12:02

Me and Oscar have only just grumped our way out of bed this morning. I would like to say we had a good night but no, he fed 2.5 hourly all flippin' night. So I managed probably just over an hour sleep between feeds. Hence the refusal to get up early! At least Oscar obliged...! Finding it harder and harder to get back to sleep in the middle of the night now. Anyone else??!

KissysUnderTheMisteltoe · 23/12/2012 12:03

We bath LO every other day, more or less. Mainly to use the oilatum bath stuff and the cream as it works better after skin has been cleaned apparently.

Definitely stopping at 2, can't afford to have anymore cos we would have to move to a bigger house! Also don't think I could have another c section. Feel very happy with my 2 lovely girls Smile

kirrinIsland · 23/12/2012 12:06

I've just heaved a sigh of relief reading cat and VQ's posts - N hasn't had a bath yet at 6 weeks old. A combination of very dry skin and bronculitis and a lack of time means I've left it for now. I do top and tail religiously though.

pass my thermometer always gave a higher reading each time I used it. In the end I ditched it and bought a new one. This one gives the same reading several times in a row. I think the difference is that the new one has disposable covers for the ear probe and the last one didn't so retained heat?

PetiteRaleuse · 23/12/2012 12:10

We've stopped at two.

Just FYI it took us over 2 years and 2mcs to get DD1. She was born in March. The following January we decided to try for another, expecting to take at least a year. DTD once (I was ill). And DD2 was on the way :) a little sooner than expected.

PetiteRaleuse · 23/12/2012 12:13

Oh, LO gets bathed rarely. I use a cream to clean her body, checking the skin folds in particular. Baths dry her skin out far too much. As she gets older she'll be bathed more frequently.

TheDetective · 23/12/2012 12:46

I wanted a third. But the way I physically feel now I don't. Quite frankly if both types of birth have caused me long term damage, I never want to do it again! Plus hyperemesis seems to be a dead cert for me :(

I also definitely do not want a baby/toddler combo! I'm not cut out for it. Take my hat off to those who are doing it!! I wanted a 3 year age gap. The pregnancy plus toddler would kill me off. Let alone the new baby plus toddler!

I'm not sure what I'll do now. I don't feel finished having children but I'm not keen to go through this again. Will have to see in time I guess!

ValiumQueen · 23/12/2012 12:59

dicks I am reading the baby whisperer again.

detective you have age on your side. You could have another 10 year age gap. And have an ELCS. You know what you are getting with an ELCS.

I have a bedside cot now and it is fabulous. I am so happy. Tried it out with DS and giving him a feed and he smiled and laughed all the way through it.

kirrinIsland · 23/12/2012 13:01

i have to say, if I do decide to go for a third I will leave a slightly larger gap. But if I had my time over again I'd still have this gap between the first two - even though DD1 frequently drives me insane. 3 very close together would be too much for me I think. I am getting better at my 'cool calm and collected mum' impressions though! But then I leave the room to bang my head against a wall

TheDetective · 23/12/2012 13:24

VQ it would be just my luck that I'd end up with further complications!! It seems I just don't have a body capable of healing properly. The only reason I haven't had my c/s scar refashioned is because the discomfort is on adopting certain positions which I have learned to avoid now. The fanjo is being fixed though... I need it! Plus it hurts 24/7 just varying degrees of pain! Who knows, maybe it will just sort itself out... Knowing my luck, probably not! I'm trying not to think about the fact I will have to live like this for another 5 months. :(

TheDetective · 23/12/2012 13:27

I have to share this as I have been literally rocking with laughter trying to contain it! Was feeding Oscar before when he started making his usual grunting/heavy breathing efforts. Ds1 pipes up 'he sounds like you and DP at night time sometimes'.... What the feck was I meant to say to that!!!! Arghhhhhh. Blush

Bad me is still laughing inside though...!
