Ha! I was chatting to DH earlier an i said something like: "do you ever worry that you're doing stuff wrong with DD?"

Him: "nah, I'm a good parent."

So casual and confident, like it had never crossed his mind that he's be doing anything wrong! He's not, but you know! Men!

Zara1984 · 21/12/2012 20:35

squid how do you do it all, you're amazing!!! When DH gets here tomorrow I'm getting back into running and honestly your tales have inspired me!!!

londonmrs jab after-effects are sad :( just keep an eye on DD's temp!

bora I can imagine my DH saying exactly that Confusedhonestly maybe I should be more like that!! It'a the parenting school of "Fake It Till You Make It"!

Another night of DS sleeping through. Amazing! If only we can get the meltdown sorted!

TMI but was a bit miffed (when defuzzing my Ladybits ahead of DH's arrival) this morning to discover that I have stretch marks on my fanny! Big purple ones! Oh, the shame.... Am using Palmers Rosehip oil to try get rid of all my stretch marks!!

Zara1984 · 21/12/2012 20:37

squid I will probably not go back to work until 1 year but would actually like (if its even possible) to find a new job in that time, building on the skills I got in my current job!

DH is still full time but likely to stay in his current position for a year or two (even though it's not as challenging as he'd like) so he can spend more time with DS.

squidkid · 21/12/2012 20:53

Thanks Zara I don't feel very amazing! I was lucky enough to have a straightforward delivery so that probably helped recovery, and I am super-lucky to have a boyfriend who works only 9-5 and about 2 minutes from the flat. And he is a hands-on kind of dad who helps a lot and takes her whenever he can to give me time to do my own things. And I have a baby who sleeps at night. I don't take the credit, honestly! And remember I was pretty much the first on here to deliver... Jess is nearly 12 weeks old now.

As for running, I am doing the couch to 5K programme which is brilliant. I didn't want to start again too suddenly so this is great for building up fitness again without overstretching yourself. I am on week 7 now. You only need to put aside 30 mins 3 times a week for it. ("only" being a ridiculous word when you have a baby!!!)

So I run every other day, and I am also doing jillian michaels 30 day shred on alternate days which is a nice short-but-tough workout. If Jess remains chilled I might move onto something more challenging in the new year.

Probably no one is interested in my workout routines, but those are two good ones I'd recommend if anyone is feeling like starting exercise again!

BoraBora · 21/12/2012 21:08

I'm desperate to get back into running. I miss it so much Hmm I still have a mild cystocele following my traumatic birth HmmHmm

BoraBora · 21/12/2012 21:18

Oh my god I'm such a voice if misery! Sorry!Smile

hufflepuffle · 21/12/2012 21:23

Ladies. I need advice. Sorry to go on but I still have sore nipple..... At 9 weeks I am so annoyed. It had recovered pretty well with last hospital advice but a pump session last week reopened a crack at base of nipple. I finished thrush treatment and went back to the fucidin H and lansinoh to try and heal crack. Not recovering well and now the goddam bloody thrush is back. Lots tears this eve cos it feels like daggers.

The fucidin H and lansinoh can both encourage yeast growth so really cannot use them but the daktarin does nothing to heal the cracks. Doing all I can to reposition bubba.

Long shot. But if anyone has been there and done that, any advice???

Might try helplines tmrw but can they give any medical advice?

Cherrychopsticks · 21/12/2012 22:18

Really sorry Huffle, I know nothing. Sad
I expect you've posted in Breastfeeding, but what about Chat, to get more traffic?
Hope you get some great advice soon!

Londonmrss · 21/12/2012 22:30

huffle I have s recurring crack too. the main thing I'm doing to help is just not feeding from it- I do block
feeding anyway to help with oversupply. I just express gently from the sore one for those few feeds but even my breast pump is more gentle that breastfeeding. honestly I thought this would be bad for the oversupply issue because my body would be getting the message to produce the milk baby is drinking plus that which I am expressing but it actually doesn't seem to have made any difference to that.

sympathy though- it's horrible feeding through pain. make sure you empty your tits properly when you can- don't want any painful blockages on top of everything else.

can't believe I'm still bf after 8 weeks. I'm so lucky- after the difficult start we had, didn't think I would be able to do it.

lisbethsopposite · 21/12/2012 23:45

Gosh loads to catch up.

The poomageddon here today was mommy's Blush. TMI alert - About a 3 day build up. Oh the relief.
On the bad mommy front. 2YO protested - physically and shouting at nappy change putting on jumper shoes jacket. I was trying to get to library 10 mins walk away - and get out of house. Plan was baby in sling ds1 in stroller . I ended up violently man handling 2yo into stroller. A complete battle of wills that left us both in tears.
Library closed at 3pm for Christmas when I got thereHmm
About a stone to lose here also.... in 2013.

Huffle have you tried Multi Mam compresses? I found them great and have bleated about them on here before . After mastitis i was afraid almost to touch my nips . Had cracks too.
Need to add I am not on comission .
Never had Thrush (touch wood).

That's great London! You definitely deserve Wine and a pat on the back for that. And you Huffle, continuing through all your problems.
I found it hard enough to stick at it at first, even with a fairly smooth ride.
Not that there would have been anything wrong with any of us taking another route if needed, of course.

Hey Lisbeth, 2year olds are possibly the most stubborn creatures in the world, aren't they? I teach them sometimes and have seen some awesome tantrums. God knows what it's like to actually parent one! I shall soon find out Grin You deserve a festive Wine too.

It amazes me how DS can switch so quickly - one minute he's totally chilled in the bath and "chatting" away while I dry him. Then, I go to put his nappy on - cue major meltdown. Absolutely nothing wrong with him. Confused

We're going to MIL's Christmas party this evening, with all her friends who've not met DS yet. He can look forward to being passed around like a parcel and exclaimed over like a rare doll. I can look forward to over stimulation, over tiredness and a fucked up routine. Joy.

londonlivvy · 22/12/2012 04:17

That doesn't sound fun, huffle. I have no experience though. Sorry.

Grr re stubborn two year olds liesbeth and cherry you are a star for humouring your MIL

We currently have MIL staying, who has been ace. Doing loads for me, happy to be delegated to when asked and only offering opinions when asked. Definitely making life easier.

My parents also arrived today for two nights and it is not quite so simple. They are 10 years older and need looking after and entertaining, much loved though they are. Dad was asking me tonight what time breakfast would be. I had to break it to him that he will have to forage. They were also talking v v loudly just outside her room and inevitably she woke up. Sigh. Someone else was saying (orenishii?) how they'd had great intentions re nor creeping about silently but when it has taken an hour of screaming to get her to sleep, (sympathy, Zara) you do want them to stay asleep.

nenehooo · 22/12/2012 06:21

Can't help re breast feeding probs I'm afraid but think we all deserve a medal - never imagined how hard it could be, and I haven't even had any problems, just a blocked duct every now and then. Hope you find a solution huffle, and extra well done London.
Lisbeth hats off to you - again, don't know how you guys with toddlers too cope! Someone asked me if I was gonna have another one yesterday and I just laughed!
And cherry , my thoughts exactly re mood swings - mine goes from happy to angry/sad in 0.2 seconds! WHY?! Also had major meltdown in bath last night, but was expecting it as she only likes daytime baths weirdo.
As for exercise, squid I would quite like your life right now! My exercise is walking to and from the kitchen! I do try to walk into town though, 2 hour round trip and uphill mostly. Feel ok though so not going to make myself do any exercise for the sake of it, it's just weird not having time to do it even if I wanted to IYSWIM? Ooh that reminds me, bought some buggies swim nappies so we can swim - have a leisure centre literally a minute from our front door so really need to go! Shock
And actually to ladies going to Swiss cottage - I work down the road and take my children for pe there, it's great! Especially the cafe overlooking the pool - they have MASSIVE cakes Grin
Here's to a restful weekend before Christmas! Hope you don't get too wet... And yay the world didn't end, here's to life as we know it continuing Smile

hufflepuffle · 22/12/2012 06:26

Thanks folks. Lindonmrs I currently can't express cos I returned the Medela as faulty and daren't put Avent near it! Shit you have one too.

Lisbeth thank you. I have taken ur reccommendation before. Whilst they cool and comfort I don't think currently the best idea as need to treat thrush and a damp warmed by boob compress would likely encourage.

Cherry thanks for sympathy! My sympathies with u on party......! That generation can think overstimulation is a modern silly term and they don't realise what a melt baby can have!!! I send your bean chill vibes!

DH wants me to go to out of hours this morn. Depending on who is on not convinced I will get right advice. Sigh.

Londonmrss · 22/12/2012 07:19

is your agent one the one where you set the pace manually and then it continues electrically at the same pace? you could use the other boob to set a nice gentle suction in that case? otherwise I'm all out I'm afraid- positioning might be the key. hope it improves soon.

Londonmrss · 22/12/2012 07:21

avent. I meant avent.

BoraBora · 22/12/2012 08:21

Huffle I reckon you should just go out of hours today, try and get it sorted. It'll be miserable if you leave it and end up with mastitis over Christmas!

Woolybob · 22/12/2012 09:11

huffle you may have seen this ready but have you read this?

kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mother/nipplehealing/

Suggests making your own saline rinse for use before thrush treatment and ice before bf among other things. Hope it gets better soon.

WantAnOrange · 22/12/2012 09:44

Trying to catch up but keep falling so far behind!

London I have a few Bambinex nappies and I like them but they can be bulky. DD tends to wear PJ bottoms in the next size up and then she is comfortable. I have found that Mothercare Smart nappies are the least bulky but unfortunatley they dont sell them anymore so I have been keeping an eye on ebay. The trail kits are good because you can try different ones until you find what fits.

cherry do you use the newborn insert with your Ergo?

I am about to try our forth different bottle and see if DD will relent and drink from it!

I have a stomach bug, not that bad but it set me off worrying, what if I got really ill and had to got to hospital ever. DH would need to feed her.

hufflepuffle · 22/12/2012 09:54

Thanks peeps. London it is Avent but the aperture is too small for my slightly odd shaped nipple I think. Seems ok using but after is when u see damage. Medela with larger funnel much better but ours wax faulty so I am going to try spectra next instead.

Wooly thanks. Yes, they are good links on Kelly mo. will try

Just called 2 health ships for gentian violet. They don't have. Hav advised a homeopathic cream and live yoghurt. Worth a try!

Out of hours advised treat crack exclusively for 2 days and treat thrush after. Not sure good to ignore for 2 days as may become ductal again and that was not good!

Londonmrss · 22/12/2012 10:11

what about a nipple shield? I use them all the time because my baby wouldn't latch at all for the first 2 weeks and only would with a medela shield, so I'm quite pro shield even though the breastfeeding people don't like them. they do offer some protection and they come in different sizes. I wouldn't still be bf without them

HoneyMumandSon · 22/12/2012 10:15

Another vote here for medela nipple shields. I wouldn't still be managing exclusive bf without them. Scbu suggested them. Hv didn't like them but even she has relented when she's seen how well LO was doing.

hufflepuffle · 22/12/2012 10:19

I tried once during last bad episode and it hurt like hell when he sucked!!!! Made crack worse So now I'm afraid to try again.........!

hufflepuffle · 22/12/2012 10:36

I don't know how to link to another thread......... Found various info online on use of Jelonet for moist wound healing rather than lansinoh. Going to get some, use after fucidin absorbed, for 48 hours, and hope the thrush doesn't go mad.

Aargh!!!!!!
